I'm sure we'll have an official post on this when the Cubs issue a press release, but 2B/OF James Triantos has been promoted to the Cubs for his major-league debut. Outfielder Kevin Alcántara has been sent down to Iowa.
Right-hander Jacob Wallace moves from the rookie ball ACL Cubs to Double-A Knoxville. The Cubs signed Wallace as a free agent on July 2.
Left-hander Drew Pomeranz has cleared waivers and has been **** igned to Triple-A Iowa. We'll see if Pomeranz reports or elects free agency soon enough.
The Iowa Cubs let the Gwinnett Stripers (Braves) off the hook, 4-2 in a game that ended after five innings because of rain.
Jaxon Wiggins started this game and took the loss. Wiggins allowed three runs on five hits over 2.2 innings. Wiggins struggled to find the plate as he walked three and struck out two.

NASCAR is gearing up for the 24th race weekend of the 2026 season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Cup Series is bound to put on a show. In 2025, Bubba Wallace beat Kyle Larson for his first win of the year. Now, the sport will head to Indianapolis with a substantial amount of money on the line.
The purse for the Cup Series race at Indianapolis will be $11,233,037 on Sunday afternoon. NASCAR doesn't release the earnings for the winning driver anymore, meaning it's impossible to tell how much of the $11,233,037 will go toward the team in victory lane. Last year, the purse for Indianapolis sat at $11,055,250, which is roughly a $180,000 increase.
It will be fascinating to see which NASCAR driver will earn the most money at Indianapolis this weekend. Wallace is looking to go back-to-back in the race at Indianapolis, but Larson and Denny Hamlin had good cars in 2025. Indianapolis always puts on a show, and this weekend should be no different.

Seam bowlers Tom Norton and Ned Leonard are missing from Glamorgan's Metro Bank One Day Cup opener against Sussex at the Gnoll, Neath, on Wednesday, 22 July.
Norton suffered an unspecified injury in England Under-19s training while Leonard has not played for six weeks because of a shoulder problem.
It is a setback for Norton's progress after claiming a hat-trick and a five-wicket haul in his first month in the Championship team.
The absences mean a first call-up for Connor O'Riordan, an Australian fast bowler who has had extensive trials for the second team.
England Under-19s wicket-keeper/batter Harry Wallace is included for the first time in a senior squad, while young batters Callum Nicholls and Jack Hope-Bell could make competitive debuts.

There's a lot to talk about after last weekend's NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta.
The three-hour rain delay and 2 a.m. checkered flag. The three-man overtime battle for the lead, which resulted in Ryan Blaney's win by 0.068 seconds. Bubba Wallace's controversial penalty.
But how about the In-Season Challenge?
It acted as a secondary storyline Sunday, but the bracket has slimmed down to just four contestants following the third of five rounds. A champion will be crowned over the next two weeks at North Wilkesboro and Indianapolis.

Ryan Blaney dominated before and after a 3-hour weather delay on July 12 and 13 at EchoPark Speedway.
But he still had to make a final-lap pass for the win on the drafting track via a major push from Christopher Bell to claim the Quaker State 400 NASCAR Cup Series race in Atlanta.
Carson Hocevar held the lead at the white flag, but Blaney and Bubba Wallace made runs into turns 3 and 4 to create a 3-wide race to the line.
Blaney won, while Wallace was penalized for going below the yellow line on the backstretch. Hocevar finished 3rd, singing on the radio before the overtime finish and during his post-race interview.

Ryan Blaney earned his 19th career NASCAR Cup victory, winning from pole position at Atlanta in a three-wide battle. Blaney also swept both stages, dominating most of the event.
Bubba Wallace finished second, but was later penalized for advancing his position below the yellow line. That penalty dropped him down to 29th as the last car on the lead lap.
Christopher Bell was ultimately credited with second, Carson Hocevar third, Ty Gibbs fourth, and Erik Jones fifth.
Shane van Gisbergen finished sixth, matching his finish from this race earlier in the year. Austin Dillon was seventh, Tyler Reddick eighth, Joey Logano ninth, and Chris Buescher tenth.
Impressively, 29 of 38 starters finished on the lead lap in Sunday's race, which ended just before 2am EST on Monday due to a lengthy weather delay.

The Kansas City Chiefs would always rather be overprepared than underprepared, and that was the exact approach they took in rebuilding the secondary throughout the offseason.
For example, despite news that veteran nickel corner Kader Kohou was signing in free agency, the Chiefs drafted another nickel specialist in Jadon Canady in round four of the NFL draft. Not to mention they already had nickel options in Kevin Knowles and Christian Roland-Wallace on the roster, plus hybrid safeties like Chamarri Conner and Jaden Hicks who have been known to play in the slot at times.
Add veteran former slot specialist L'Jarius Sneed and veteran cornerback Kaiir Elam to the mix, and you have what could be a very crowded training camp competition for the Chiefs this summer.
With all that in mind, an early signing like Kohou may not be guaranteed a roster spot, according to KC insiders Matt Derrick (Chiefs Digest) and Nick Jacobs (KSHB 41).
During the July 5 episode of the "41 is the Mic" podcast, hosted by Derrick and Jacobs, the former explained why Kohou's 2026 contract may not last into September.

About halfway through Stage 2, a lightning strike within eight miles of EchoPark Speedway forced NASCAR to red flag the race, bringing the field of 38 cars down pit road.
There were no incidents in the first 109 laps of the race and all cars were still running. The race needs to reach Lap 131 to be official as that is the halfway point of the event.
There are thunderstorms in the area, and rain began to fall after the cars were stopped on pit road.
Ryan Blaney was leading the race at the time of the stoppage, with Bubba Wallace second, Tyler Reddick third, Christopher Bell fourth, and Chase Elliott fifth.
Erik Jones, Kyle Larson, Carson Hocevar, Joey Logano, and Ty Gibbs fill out the remainder of the top ten.

Jul. 12—Thirty-two years ago, coach Larry Ham let senior Chris Wallace, the star quarterback for the South High School football team, call the plays on defense for the basketball team.
"I'm offense on the football field," Wallace said, "but when it comes to basketball, I think it starts and stops with who's playing defense and who's getting after 50-50 **** and who's winning the rebound war."
That was Wallace's thinking in the 1993-94 season, and it remains his philosophy as he prepares for his first season as the head coach of the Springfield boys basketball team.
"(Defense) dictates a lot of what we do offensively," Wallace said, "and that's getting out and trying to score off the break. If we can't, we'll get into what we do, but that's the precedent we're trying to set right now with our student-athletes."
Springfield announced the hiring of Wallace on June 1. Wallace replaces Matt Yinger, who stepped down in April. Yinger was 28-48 over three seasons.

Chase Briscoe survived a late charge from teammate Christopher Bell to win Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway, delivering Joe Gibbs Racing another victory and punching his ticket into the 2026 Chase.
Bell, continuing to race through a fractured left wrist, finished just 0.276 seconds behind Briscoe after spending the closing laps searching for an opening that never came. Polesitter Denny Hamlin completed an all-Toyota podium in third.
The manufacturer didn’t stop there.
Toyota placed seven drivers inside the top 10, marking the first time in company history it has put seven cars in the top 10 of a NASCAR Cup Series race.
William Byron finished fourth as the highest-running Chevrolet, while teammate Alex Bowman rounded out the top five. Bubba Wallace, Ryan Blaney, Ty Gibbs, Corey Heim and Riley Herbst completed the top 10.

JOLIET, IL – A return to Chicagoland Speedway after six years on the Fourth of July weekend highlights some of the quandaries NASCAR has with its schedule and also the opportunities.
Is it more important to try to reinvigorate an audience at a traditional oval or reach new fans through a downtown street race?
Did the pendulum swing too far toward road races in favor of traditional ovals?
Is Chicago, the United States' third-largest metro area, even the right place to race on Independence Day for a sport with rural roots and Southern traditions?
"We have a great facility here," said Cup Series driver Bubba Wallace, whose team owners include Chicago sports icon Michael Jordan.

After a disappointing first-round exit, the Denver Nuggets will undoubtedly be making substantial changes to their roster. Christian Braun and Cameron Johnson have been linked in trade rumors daily. Peyton Watson‘s future remains unknown. Even beloved Nuggets Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon could possibly be on their way out. And that’s just the starting lineup.
Denver’s bench unit can also expect some serious turnover. Bruce Brown, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Spencer Jones are all free agents. Meanwhile, the Nuggets are expected to waive Jonas Valanciunas and seek a trade for Zeke Nnaji. Simply put, Denver could look completely different next season, and they will likely need to rely on help from within to make another run.
The 2026 NBA Draft has now come and gone. The Nuggets, to the surprise of many, avoided addressing guard depth with both of their picks. Admittedly, executive Jon Wallace attempted to trade up for one, but it was ultimately not to be. “We tried to make some moves to get up…we’re not the only team that wants elite point guards,” Wallace confessed.
Nevertheless, the guard spots on Denver’s bench are essentially vacant. Not only were they not addressed in the draft, but with the incumbents — Brown and Hardaway Jr. — possibly leaving, the need increases. The Nuggets may attempt to re-sign Brown, as he will be relatively cheap, is a solid defender, and is beloved by the Denver community. Hardaway Jr., on the other hand, will be difficult to bring back, as his tremendous season could earn him a figure that the Nuggets cannot afford.
Thus, it’s clear that Denver needs guards. Lucky for them, they have one that has been on the roster for years, just waiting for his chance. That guard’s name is Julian Strawther.

Former Kentucky basketball star and fan-favorite Otega Oweh had his dreams come true when he heard his name called in the second round of last week’s NBA draft.
He was taken 41st overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder, a pick which OKC acquired in a trade with the Miami Heat.
Oweh joins former Wildcats Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cason Wallace in Oklahoma City, where he’s sure to carve out some playing time on the wing for the 2025 NBA champions.
The creative team at UK Athletics always does a phenomenal job with their work and gave their absolute best effort in putting together an incredible behind-the-scenes look at Oweh’s dream coming true and what Draft Day was like for the former Wildcat.
While Oweh could have rolled the dice last summer and turned professional, he decided to commit to one more year at Kentucky to improve his game but also do his best to lead the program as far as he could for one more season.

Bubba Wallace and Riley Herbst are the only 23XI Racing drivers not guaranteed to return in 2027. Tyler Reddick signed a long-term contract extension, while Corey Heim will replace Herbst in the No. 35 car next year. So, will Wallace return to the No. 23 car for 23XI Racing?
Motorsports Wire predicts that Wallace will stay in the No. 23 Toyota for 23XI Racing in 2027. While Wallace hasn't been officially announced to return, he should not have any worries about his future. The 23XI Racing driver is fighting for a spot in the Chase, and he could be a sleeper to make some noise over the last 10 races.
For now, Wallace has a safe spot in the driver's seat of the No. 23 entry. Wallace is the original driver of 23XI Racing, and he hasn't done anything to suggest that change is needed. In fact, Wallace has run well enough to promote the idea that a long-term contract extension should be on tap.

23XI Racing is one of the most improved teams in the NASCAR Cup Series garage. Tyler Reddick signed a long-term contract extension, while Corey Heim will become a full-time driver in 2027. Heim will replace Riley Herbst in the No. 35 car; however, will Bubba Wallace continue driving for 23XI Racing?
Despite Wallace's fall in the point standings, Motorsports Wire is predicting that he will return to the No. 23 car in 2027, rounding out 23XI Racing's driver lineup. The driver of the No. 23 car is the only true question mark for 23XI Racing, but it is only because he isn't locked into the 2027 NASCAR season yet.
No more changes should be expected. 23XI Racing figures to have Wallace, Heim, and Reddick for the foreseeable future, and it's easy to understand why. Reddick and Heim have wins in 2026, and Wallace has run well. 23XI Racing shouldn't have any additional changes, with Heim replacing Herbst.

Swedish national team football player Lucas Bergvall earned attention during the 2026 FIFA World Cup for his looks, but online claims that he asked fans to stop voting for pro-immigration policies are false. The posts mistranslate a March clip in which he actually discussed a World Cup qualifying playoff match against Poland.
"Swedish Soccer player Lucas Bergvall responds to going viral," says a June 22 post from internet personality Matt Wallace, whom AFP has repeatedly fact-checked for promoting disinformation and conspiracy theories.
The post quotes Bergvall as saying: "I appreciate all the love and support. To every woman who has a crush on me, please stop voting for mass migration, or my people will not exist anymore."
Similar claims appeared on Instagram and Facebook.
Bergvall, a 20 year-old midfielder on the Swedish men's national team who plays club football for Tottenham Hotspur, has drawn fanfare during the 2026 World Cup for his blond hair and attractive features, with onlookers calling him "the World Cup's newest crush."

The NASCAR Cup Series competed in San Diego, and it was a shocking event. Shane van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch were the favorites; however, both wrecked out after Austin Hill lost control of his No. 33 car on a restart. Instead, it was a 23XI Racing battle for the victory, resulting in a first-time winner.
Corey Hem and the No. 67 team for 23XI Racing won Sunday's race in San Diego, earning their first victory of the 2026 Cup Series season. Heim was able to pass his 23XI Racing teammate Tyler Reddick in the closing laps. It was the 2025 NASCAR Truck Series champion's first career Cup Series victory.
Heim has impressed in his limited Cup Series starts, but no one saw this coming on Sunday. The driver of the No. 67 car outdrove Reddick, who eventually had to pit for a flat tire, in the closing laps. This is the first of many Cup Series wins for Heim, and this was an extremely impressive performance.
