Martin O'Neill's side already have one foot in the door after Wednesday's 3-0 win over LASK, but will have finish the job in Linz on Tuesday evening if they are to secure a £40 million payday.
If the Hoops prevail, then Sutton believes they will need to add more quality reinforcements if they harbour any ambitions of competing with Europe's elite.

With Camilo Duran, Kasper Hogh, Miko Baur, and Haissem Hassan already been added to Martin O'Neill's side, and although Sutton believes they are good acquisitions, the former Celtic star believes that while they are now well equipped for the domestic challenge, the club need more quality it they want to compete at the highest level.

Celtic are closing in on the signing of Ermin Mahmic. The highly rated Bosnian International caught the eye at the FIFA World Cup but Martin O'Neill's side appear to have won the battle for the attacking midfielder's signature.
The 21-year-old netted twice for Bosnia but Mail Sport reports that Celtic had already identified the player before the World Cup. Serie A, Bundesliga and Turkish teams have all sought to sign Mahmic but it looks like Celtic have won the race.
It is expected that Mahmic will make the switch to Celtic at the beginning of the week with a deal worth £7m plus add-ons. The 6ft midfielder is probably more of a creative midfielder than an industrious midfielder like Arne Engels, but with Niko Sigur also linked, it appears that Celtic are looking to strengthen the midfield.
Mahmic made 30 appearances for Slovan Liberec last season, scoring 8 times and ******* isting on 4 occasions. The midfielder is expected to be the fifth signing of the summer but it does not appear to be the last.
The Scottish Champions have already signed Kasper Høgh, Camilo Duran, Haissen Hassan and Mika Baur, indicating a change in approach from the club to prioritise quality against quantity.

With Arne Engels now a West Ham United player, after his £25 million move, and Reo Hatate seeking a move elsewhere, it's imperative that we add some more quality to our low on numbers midfield.
Mika Baur has of course arrived, but we are still in need of more additions all the same.
One of the several midfield players Celtic have been credited with an interest in is Bosnian international Ermin Mahmic. Mahmec who starred for his nation in the recent World Cup, plays his club football for Czech side Slovan Liberec, and is undoubtedly a player of great potential.
Having studied the 22 year old quite a bit since he was credited as a player of interest, it's clear to see that he's more than just a playmaker, with his ability to score from outside the box also forming a huge part of his game.
The youngster regularly likes to have a pop from distance, and more often than not he hits the target, with the ball either ending up in the back of the net, or resulting in the keeper having to make a save.

VfB Stuttgart have extended Laurin Ulrich's contract through 2028 and sent the highly rated midfielder on a season-long loan to Bundesliga newcomers SC Paderborn. The 21-year-old becomes the latest addition to an extensive Paderborn Bundesliga rebuild. According to Transfermarkt, a €600,000 loan fee is attached to the deal. Ulrich made his senior top-flight debut against Bayer Leverkusen in 2022, but that remains his only Bundesliga appearance to date.
Ulrich had previously been contracted to Stuttgart through 2027. The one-year extension prior to his departure makes clear that VfB continue to view their academy product as a player with a potential future at the club. The move will provide Ulrich with something Stuttgart have not yet been able to offer him consistently: Bundesliga football.
Paderborn will represent Ulrich's third loan ******* ignment in the ******* e of two years. The first, at SSV Ulm in 2024/25, proved unsuccessful. Ulrich made only five appearances and one start before returning to Stuttgart early. His subsequent spell with 1. FC Magdeburg proved considerably more productive. Ulrich established himself as a central figure in midfield during a difficult 2025/26 campaign, starting 32 of his 33 league appearances and registering three goals and three ******* ists. Across all competitions, he featured 36 times.
Ulrich joined Stuttgart's academy in 2016 and progressed through the club's youth ranks before playing an important role for VfB II. His development there included helping the reserves secure promotion to the 3. Liga before his successive second-tier loans. Stuttgart sporting executive Fabian Wohlgemuth consequently continues to regard Ulrich as a product of the club's long-term development system.
For Paderborn, Ulrich provides another technically gifted attacking-midfield option following the departure of Mika Baur to Celtic. Baur's exit generated at least €5.25m and represented a club-record sale. Paderborn have subsequently reinvested heavily following promotion.

According to Sky Germany, SC Paderborn talisman Mika Baur is on his way to Celtic Glasgow to finalize his transfer.
In the report, it's believed the U-21 German international has already agreed to a contract with the Scottish champions until 2031.
After weeks of intense and tough negotiations with the Hoops, Paderborn can seemingly expect to land a record sale.
Sky Germany understands that the newly promoted Bundesliga club will receive a transfer fee of €8million, including bonuses.
Baur was also a target for FC Schalke 04, however, the Royal Blues could not compete in that financial sphere with Celtic.

The Scottish champions have already seen an opening offer of around £4 million rejected, with the newly-promoted Bundesliga outfit unwilling to part with the 22-year-old despite him entering the final year of his contract.
Although Paderborn insist they are under no pressure to cash in, Kettemann acknowledged there remains a possibility that both Baur and teammate Laurin could depart before the transfer window closes.
Even so, the German coach remains optimistic that his key players will stay put, while stressing the club has contingency plans in place should either move materialise.
Speaking to NW Sport via Glasgow Times, Kettemann said: "Of course, we're considering the worst-case scenario, that Mika and Laurin might leave. But I'm confident that both will stay.

Martin O'Neill is prioritising quality over quantity as Celtic prepare to defend their Scottish Premiership ***** le.
The Parkhead side have made two signings this summer - Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh - for reported combined fees of around £15m.
However, talismanic forward Daizen Maeda has left to join Ipswich Town and O'Neill is keen to get high-calibre players through the door sooner rather than later.
Celtic have been linked extensively with Real Oviedo and Egypt winger Haissem Hassan as well as Paderborn midfielder Mika Baur.
"I think we're trying to get some quality into the football club," O'Neill told Sky Sports.

That game will be packed but today's friendly against a lightweight AC Milan side that will be missing multiple top performers, will not be well attended due to the Celtic support once again being frustrated and angry with the club for creating another summer of discontent through their inactivity in transfer market, so far only getting one deal over the line with the £5m signing of Camilo Duran from Qarabag.
That transfer fee has been more than covered by the sale of Luis Palma to Lech Poznan for £3.5m and Maik Nawrocki to RC Lens for £2m. And with Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson in discussions to sign four new players, it looks like the delay could be caused by an instruction to wait for sales of key players like Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels before proceeding with the purchases Martin O'Neill needs this week.
Maeda should compete his move to Ipswich Town today and that could result in Kasper Hogh from Bodo Glimt coming to Celtic early next week, fingers crossed anyway.
Meanwhile Celtic are haggling over a few hundred grand which is frustrating the move for German midfielder Mika Baur with SC Paderborn resisting the latest Celtic lowballing attempt for their player who has already agreed personal terms with the Scottish Champions and wants the move to happen.

Well that is what we as Celtic supporters are currently experiencing with our tightfisted and incompetent board, and if history repeats itself, then those in charge at Celtic Football Club will have to face the music from a support that has already had enough of their extreme financial prudence and **** ding of cash that’s by and large put into the club by the fans.

We’ve so far failed to add to the addition of Camilo Duran, although talks are ongoing with German side Paderborn over the transfer of midfielder Mika Baur, and a move has been made to snap up Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh.

Worryingly though, it appears that a snag has hit the Baur deal, with claims from Germany that Celtic and Paderborn are at loggerheads over the fee, with a mere £300,000 the sum the Celtic representatives are haggling over as they can’t resist a lowball attempt to shave something off the asking price at the eleventh hour.

This time last year the young and talented Motherwell youngster Lennon Miller was a reported Celtic target, only for the highly regarded midfielder to go and crush any hopes the Celtic supporters had of seeing him in the hoops when he signed for Serie A side Udinese in a £4.5 million plus deal.
Miller who just missed out on a place in the Scotland World Cup squad has impressed at the Italian side, making 26 appearances, and scoring one goal in all competitions in his debut campaign.
In my opinion, he's a player Celtic should still be interested in, as we look to bolster our midfield, an area which will be ever so weaker come the start of the new Scottish Premiership campaign, due to the impending departures of Arne Engels, and Reo Hatate.

Mika Baur is on the cusp of signing to plug the gap that will be created in the aforementioned players inevitable departures, but we still need a couple of more new faces to bulk up that area, even more so if our skipper Callum McGregor decides to move on.

The reigning Scottish Premiership Champions are said to be locked in talks with the German U21 cap’s club SC Paderborn at present, in the hopes of finalising a deal for the midfielder.
In a bolt out of the blue earlier this week, Baur’s name hit the headlines in connection with Celtic when both Fabrizio Romano and Florian Plettenberg reported that Martin O’Neill’s side were in talks with the 22-year-old central midfield ace, having already agreed personal terms on a possible contract with the player. This meant that only a fee had to be agreed between Celtic and Paderborn.
Easier said than done, wherever Michael Nicholson is concerned many Celtic supporters immediately thought.
Nevertheless, it was a much needed update and shot in the arm for a support that has grown increasingly frustrated and even angry at the way the club slowly conducts it’s business in the transfer market for some time now.

It's been revealed that Celtic are in talks with Bundesliga side Paderborn over the transfer of highly rated midfielder Mika Baur, with the Scottish Champions already having agreed terms with the midfielder.
It emerged yesterday afternoon that the club had agreed personal terms with the player and his agent, who happens to be former Rangers FC player Christian Nerlinger, who was previously involved alongside Celtic as he operated as Nicolas Kuhn's agent.

Now all that remains to conclude the deal is the two clubs agreeing on a fee, and according to the Daily Record, that fee is believed to be around the £4 million mark, which for a highly regarded German youth international, is something of a bargain.

Celtic are reportedly pushing to sign Mika Baur from SC Paderborn. The Scottish Champions require a sizeable summer rebuild and despite a sluggish start with just one signing, it appears that they are finally ramping up their recruitment.
According to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, Celtic are in pole position to sign the midfielder and personal terms will not be an obstacle.
Celtic are expected to be favourites to sign the German U21 Internationalist, who turned out for his country earlier this year. A raft of Bundesliga clubs have been credited with interest in the player but it appears to be agent Christian Nerlinger that could be the kingmaker in this deal.

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are edging closer to signing Mika Baur from SC Padeborn. Sky Sports reported the midfielder is keen on the move as personal terms wouldn't be an issue due to his agent Christian Nerlinger having an excellent relationship with Celtic.
Schalke were also interested in signing the 22-year-old, but Celtic are working on completing the deal with immediate effect. The traditional club beat Hearts to win yet another championship on the last day of the 2025/26 season.
Similarly, Baur ended the season positively as Padeborn won promotion back to Bundesliga after beating Wolfsburg in the relegation/promotion playoff. Baur was ever-present in their successful campaign after spending the previous season on loan at Dynamo Dresden.
