The Charlotte Knights stumbled to an 11-4 loss to the Buffalo Bisons in a game that remained competitive for five innings before spiraling wildly out of control.
Adisyn Coffey took the mound as an opener for Charlotte, making just his third start of the season. It quickly became the Lenyn Sosa revenge game. The former White Sox infielder greeted Coffey with a leadoff solo shot in the top of the third. Coffey retired the next two hitters, but a single and an RBI double followed, giving Buffalo a 2-0 edge.
The Knights answered in the bottom half of the inning. Rikuu Nishida drew a two-out walk, and Riley Unroe brought him home with a triple to trim the deficit to one.
After Peyton Pallette got the final out of the third inning, Huascar Brazobán followed Coffey and turned in a successful inning of rehab work, surrendering only one hit in a scoreless fourth. Tanner McDougal took over in the fifth and faced the minimum, setting the stage for Charlotte to pull even in the bottom half when Junior Perez launched a solo shot to knot the score at 2-2.
Unfortunately, that was as good as the night would get for the Knights.

The Rochester Red Wings continued their postseason push Friday night, rallying from an early two-run deficit to beat the Buffalo Bisons 5-3 at ESL Ballpark and move into a tie for first place in the International League's second-half standings.
Rochester improved to 79-49 and pulled even with Indianapolis atop the International League's second-half race thanks to a four-run fourth inning fueled by doubles from Cayden Wallace and Liover Peguero. Chandler Champlain earned the win with 4.1 innings of relief before Yovanny Cruz recorded his fifth save.
The Bisons broke through in the top of the fourth inning after Yohendrick Piñango singled and scored on Jay Harry's RBI double. Harry later came home on Lenyn Sosa's RBI single, giving Buffalo a 2-0 lead.
Starter Isaac Lyon was charged with both runs, with Champlain entering in relief to record the final out of the inning.
The Red Wings responded immediately in the bottom half.

The Rochester Red Wings erased an early two-run deficit, but the Buffalo Bisons broke a tie with a four-run sixth inning and held on for a 6-3 victory Tuesday night at ESL Ballpark. Rochester finished with six hits, while Buffalo collected eight.
The loss dropped the Red Wings to 76-49, while Buffalo improved to 63-63. Grant Rogers earned the win for the Bisons, and Matt Krook was charged with the loss.
The Bisons wasted little time getting on the board in the opening inning. Rudy Martin Jr. walked and Jay Harry followed with a single before Sean Keys brought home the game's first run on a groundout. Yohendrick Piñango then lined an RBI single to center to score Harry and give Buffalo a 2-0 lead.
Rochester starter Zak Kent settled in afterward, allowing two runs over 2⅓ innings before Andry Lara delivered 2⅔ scoreless innings of relief to keep the game within reach.
The Red Wings responded in the fifth.

The South West of England's first LGBT+ inclusive rugby team is preparing for a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to play in an international competition.
The Bristol Bisons RFC team, first set up in 2005, will head to Brisbane, Australia, to take part in the Bingham Cup - an international gay rugby union tournament.
Taking place from 19 to 23 August, the tournament aims to attract players from around the world and marks the first time the Bristol Bisons have played in the southern hemisphere.
Director of rugby and head coach Sasha Acheson said the team were "determined to grab this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with both hands, playing with courage, creativity and relentless intent".
She said: "If we leave Australia knowing we honoured the opportunity, each other, and everything this journey could be, the results will be incredible."

The Rochester Red Wings scored three runs in the 10th inning Thursday to break a 2-2 tie and defeat the Buffalo Bisons 5-2.
Phillip Glasser opened the inning as the automatic runner at second base for the Red Wings. Christian Franklin moved Glasser to third with a sacrifice bunt, and Abimelec Ortiz followed with a sacrifice fly to left field that put the Red Wings ahead 3-2.
Back-to-back walks to Brady House and Andrew Pinckney set the stage for Trey Lipscomb, who lined a two-run double to right field to cap the scoring.
Buffalo took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Josh Kasevich hit a double to right field, advanced to third on a flyout and scored on a wild pitch by Jackson Kent.
Rochester responded in the fifth inning. Glasser singled to left field, and Franklin walked. House then hit a two-run triple to center field, giving the Red Wings a 2-1 lead.

The Knights (39-32) recovered from Tuesday’s loss to even up their series in Buffalo against the Bisons (34-37).
After a scoreless first inning, the Knights offense went to work by putting a crooked number on the scoreboard. Nolan Jones drew a leadoff walk, and Ryan Galanie added a single. That set the stage for Dustin Harris, who drove in the first run of the game with a single to right. Dru Baker popped out, but the next batter was Andy Weber, who launched a three-run homer to give the Knights a commanding lead.
In the sixth, with the score still 4-0, Galanie blasted his 10th homer to add an insurance run and extend the lead to five. As it turned out, five was more than enough for the Knights to come away with the victory.
Meanwhile, Tyler Schweitzer was the opener for Charlotte, and he did his part by pitching a scoreless first inning. Duncan Davitt covered the next three innings, and he did not allow any runs, either. The Bisons scored their only run in the sixth, when Sean Keys went deep against Zach Franklin. The bullpen took care of business down the stretch, as Garrett Schoenle and Javy Guerra combined to pitch 3 1/3 scoreless innings to put the game away. Catcher Kyle Teel went 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout during the victory.
Who was the Knights MVP?

The Jays officially activated Dylan Cease off the IL and sent Adam Macko back to Buffalo.
Macko pitched in 12 games for the Jays, with a 1.50 ERA. In 12 innings he had allowed 11 hits, 1 home run, 2 walks and 12 strikeouts. Batters hit .244/.282/.333 against him. I liked that he could throw more than an inning at a go. I am sure we’ll see him again.
Dylan Cease made 11 starts, before going on the IL, with a 3-3 record, and a 3.05 ERA. Batters hit .215/.302/.307 against him. I’m very happy to have him back and even more happy that we won’t be seeing ‘bullpen days’ so often. Spencer Miles can slot into a long relief role (along with Woods Richardson).
And Max Scherzer will be getting tomorrow’s start, with someone else getting moved out.

The Toronto Blue Jays are trying to get back on track after a disappointing start to the season. Just a few months ago, they were competing in the World Series; now they find themselves outside of a playoff spot.
The starting rotation has been dealing with injuries for much of the year, though several key arms are nearing returns.
“The Blue Jays are getting dangerously close to a run of “good news” on the pitching front. In 2026, that still feels so unfamiliar. It was Max Scherzer’s turn in the Buffalo Bisons’ rotation Friday night, the middle man in a string of rehab starts that featured Dylan Cease on Thursday and ends with another Cy Young winner in Shane Bieber on Saturday,” MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson wrote.
Even with those reinforcements on the way, there are still rumors that Toronto could pursue Tarik Skubal.
