Colom would be Mississippi’s first Black U.S. senator since Reconstruction.
Why are major Democrats and Republicans flocking to Mississippi in recent weeks?
In a climate where polls show President Donald Trump's approval ratings cratering, Democrats are unusually optimistic about Scott Colom's chances of flipping the Senate seat held by incumbent Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith -- even in deep-red Mississippi.
"We got to have a senator that looks out for Mississippi, that puts Mississippi farmers first, Mississippi small businesses first, represent our values by not allowing corruption to ruin our country and actually delivers on the commitments to put America first," Colom told ABC News in an interview earlier this week.
The incumbent's campaign dismisses the Democratic push as the last-ditch effort of a campaign that will fall short.

Nick Wright claims the Kansas City Chiefs played in a way that should have led to them losing against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Kansas City Chiefs are yet to lose a game still since Patrick Mahomes returned and the season began. On Sunday, they took on the NFL's worst team at the moment, the Los Angeles Chargers, and secured a commanding 22-6 victory to take their record to 5-0.
LA's offensive woes continued and somehow got even worse during this game. Justin Herbert was unable to get anything going, so the Chiefs' mistakes also went unpunished. Giving his two cents on the game in the aftermath, **** yst Nick Wright was quick to point that out.
Kansas City's record may be perfect, but the team itself was quite far away from that against LA. Mahomes threw an interception and Kansas City also missed an extra point, to give some examples. At the NFL level, mistakes like this are usually punished.
Wright gave a full account of everything the Chiefs got wrong before going on to then also diss the Chargers. Considering how poor they have been, it is hard to disagree with his take.

Klay Thompson was ice cold in his first preseason with the Miami Heat, but the four-time NBA champion isn't fazed by his shooting struggles heading into the 2026-27 regular season.
Speaking after Sunday's practice at Kaseya Center, Thompson maintained that he expects to shoot at his usual level once the games "count," brushing aside concerns about being too far over the hill entering his age-36 campaign.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra also voiced his confidence in the veteran shooting guard as anticipation builds for Wednesday's season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Brought in over the offseason to help create ***** e around Heat stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo on Miami's revamped roster, Thompson looked out of sorts throughout the preseason, shooting 7-for-26 overall (26.9%) and 3-for-20 from 3-point range (15.0%).
It was a small sample size, as Thompson appeared in four of Miami's five exhibition contests and never played into the second half of any of them as the Heat went 3-2. Still, his shooting blunders went viral on social media, fueling ridicule.

Guglielmo Vicario spoke to DAZN after the defeat to Lazio, and his words were scathing.
"No, there is no need to pass the buck or point fingers here. Responsibility must be shared equally by everyone in the dressing room and the team, so we will ******* yse things with the coach because that performance was well below par in every respect. Looking for excuses or hiding behind circumstances is not my style, and it is not what we want. We must not even entertain that thought because it is absolutely not what Juventus stands for. Besides, the schedule will be like this all year, so we need to find an approach, a way to perform and compete at our very best in every match. Shortly after England's disappointing defeat by Argentina at this summer's World Cup, boss Thomas Tuchel offered his view on why the Three Lions are struggling to win major tournaments.
"I think ball possession plays a crucial role," he said.
"It's maybe not in our DNA like it is in the Spanish DNA or Argentinian or Brazilian DNA to take the ball, control the game and the ball, which is also a big problem."
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), in scientific terms, usually refers to the master blueprint for life - the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms.
In football, the DNA of a team starts out at grassroots level, where young players are shaped and developed.

One Josh Allen masterclass moment has captured the attention of NFL fans after the Buffalo Bills' big win and most are simply awestruck by his genius.
In what proved to be a tight contest against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Buffalo Bills claimed their fifth win of the season. The difference-maker was none other than the team's star quarterback. Josh Allen did just enough to secure the victory for his team.
Allen threw the ball for 255 yards and two touchdowns, and looked like his usual impressive self during the game. The 33-30 scoreline suggests how tight the game was. And while a game like this is generally known for having a lot of big moments, one Allen play has really captured the fans' imaginations.
With the score at 16-13 in the third quarter, Allen had the ball for the Bills at the Raiders' 13-yard line. It was third down with eight yards to gain, and it would have been bad for Buffalo if they had to settle for the field goal.
The Raiders' defensive line knew they had to get the stop if they could. They sold out to try to sack Allen, but he somehow escaped the pocket. As more Las Vegas players rushed to meet him and put him on the ground, the 30-year-old casually flipped the ball to Keon Coleman in the endzone.

James Attwood: I don't really see how. Sure, the Brewers are a smaller market than the Dodgers. They have a much smaller payroll. But, if anything, the Brewers advancing is only going to fuel the MLBPA to get even stickier about trying to control salaries in any way, shape, or form. Also, even though plenty of fans and pundits like to give MLB front offices a hard time about making stupid decisions, those offices are by and large, stacked with incredibly intelligent people. Those people are going to be able to take a step back and recognize that one season's playoff picture is hardly a sample size large enough to be called indicative of the sport moving forward. There were questions after Arizona went to the World Series in 2023 about whether or not MLB had done enough to create obstacles for Wild Card teams in the playoffs, all because Arizona steamrolled the Brewers and Dodgers. This year, pundits are calling for the entire seeding system to be blown up because there was a team with a .500 record that not only made the playoffs, but won their division outright. Single seasons may bring some oddities, but they are usually not indicative of the reality of the game's overall health.
I suspect, both the ownership side of things and the MLBPA have already drawn their battle lines and have already started crafting their arguments. This outcome in the playoffs will do more to feed the online debates between fans and pundits than it will do for or against the CBA negotiations.
C. Wesley Baier: I think it will impact the CBA negotiations, but how much is the real question. I would be shocked if the MLBPA didn't use this as evidence against a salary cal, but I cant say if it wil be all that successful of a tactic.
Spencer: Nope. Anything can happen in a small sample size. Owners are greedy and want to abuse their employees/customers for profit still. Players are greedy and only care about the uppermost tiers of earning power. Fans will quiet down a little, but fan opinion and outrage has never been a driving force for either side.

I'm living proof of the saying that "kids keep you young." My wife and I don't need social media. We've got multiple social barometers living in our house. But my usual reaction to every new trend or slang that enters their lexicon ("cooked" and "tuff" have been the new favorites) is skepticism. Before I try to figure out how much attention I need to put into what has them hyped, I try to figure out how serious they are about their enthusiasm.
Sunday's fantasy football action left me in a similar spot. We didn't get many massive box score performances from our stars. Instead, Week 6 was about our mid- and late-round picks or waiver-wire acquisitions. And with some giving us repeat results, the storylines coming out of Sunday should have us adjusting how we approach fantasy free agency on Tuesday.
Both Trevor Lawrence and C.J. Stroud were hooping all morning. They were the perfect pivot from whatever we had to watch on TNF. But as I was watching the Texans offense, a couple of things stood out.
what a throw from Stroud, too. pic.twitter.com/fz4EbOAKvT https://t.co/2MaTqWpPgd
First, Stroud's command of the offense was at an all-time high. Jacksonville came into the game with the 12th-highest pressure rate. Houston had a twofold response. It used an extra lineman on 35.6% of its plays (a season-high), and Stroud was getting rid of the football in 2.31 seconds (a season-low). The result was not only his lowest pressure rate (8.6%) but also his highest EPA per dropback (0.35). More importantly, the Jaguars' defensive measures, which included blitzing Stroud on 31.4% of his dropbacks, didn't stop him from throwing the ball.

It's not easy being a billionaire in the event that a stock market bubble bursts.
Just ask billionaire Bridgewater ****** ociates founder Ray Dalio, who sounds like he's worrying about potentially massive wealth destruction if the artificial intelligence trade goes south.
"Everybody says 'I'm worth a billion dollars' but, OK, try to spend that," Dalio said at the Forbes Global CEO Conference in Singapore on Wednesday. Bloomberg first reported his comments.
Dalio suggested that measures that force the ultrawealthy to liquidate their unrealized gains, such as a wealth tax, could hasten or contribute to a bubble popping.
"In order to spend that, you have to sell wealth in order to get money — and so the bubble usually ****** at that," he added.

Amcor plc (NYSE:AMCR) isn't a flashy business. Most people probably don't know much about the company, even though they come across its products every day. The company makes the packaging used for food, drinks, healthcare products, beauty products, and plenty of other everyday items.
That gives the company an interesting quality from an investment perspective. Consumers may cut back on certain purchases when the economy gets tougher, but they still need to buy food, medicine, and other basic products. About 60% of Amcor's markets are tied to nutrition, while health, beauty, and wellness make up another 25%. Billionaires are gravitating towards another packaging company, and that has also returned nearly 20% in the past year. Find here.
The company's size is another advantage. Amcor operates across a large global manufacturing network and has relationships with major customers that have been built over many years. It also offers a wide range of packaging formats and materials. For a large multinational customer, being able to deal with one supplier across multiple markets can be a meaningful advantage. The Berry Global acquisition has made Amcor even larger, although it also brought more debt onto the balance sheet.
Amcor plc (NYSE:AMCR) pays $0.65 per share every quarter, giving investors an annual dividend of $2.60. At the October 7 closing price of $41.26, that works out to a yield of about 6.3%. That's a big yield for a company selling products that are tied to everyday consumption. However, a high yield doesn't automatically make a dividend attractive. What matters is whether the business can actually afford to keep paying it. Amcor's latest numbers offer some comfort. Its steady dividend growth is one reason the stock remains popular with income-focused investors.
The company generated $1.303 billion in free cash flow during fiscal 2026, while adjusted diluted EPS came in at $4.02, up 13% from the previous year. Amcor also increased its annual dividend to $2.60. On an adjusted earnings basis, the payout ratio is around 65%. That's not unusual for a mature company and doesn't immediately raise a red flag.

Emmie P grew up in a household so religious she was not allowed to dress up for Halloween. Now dressing up as someone else is a central part of her career.

Red carpet fashion does not always stop at an extraordinary dress. Some stars have taken transformation much further, using prosthetics, sculptural makeup and elaborate accessories to turn themselves into fantastical characters. From fairy inspired beauty to feline features and even a dramatic peacock transformation, these looks blurred the boundaries between fashion, makeup and performance art. Ariana Grande, Karol G, Doja Cat, Rita Ora and Heidi Klum have all experimented with this theatrical approach. Rather than simply complementing their outfits, the unusual additions became essential parts of the overall illusion.
At the 2024 Met Gala, Ariana Grande embraced an ethereal aesthetic in a custom Loewe creation. The look combined an iridescent corseted bodice with a flowing pleated skirt, but some of its most memorable details appeared around her eyes. Delicate three dimensional wings extended from her face, adding a fairy like quality that worked naturally with the event's Garden of Time theme.
Karol G also entered a fantasy world at the same Met Gala. Wearing a crystal covered Marc Jacobs gown, the Colombian singer added prosthetic elf ears that transformed the glamorous ensemble into something more otherworldly. A sparkling headpiece and green jewels enhanced the effect, creating an interpretation that seemed to belong in an enchanted forest.
Doja Cat took transformation even further at the 2023 Met Gala, where the evening celebrated the work of Karl Lagerfeld. She referenced Lagerfeld's famous cat Choupette with a custom Oscar de la Renta gown featuring a hood with cat ears and a feathered train. Prosthetic facial features completed the transformation, giving her a feline appearance while preserving the elegance expected from a major fashion event.
Rita Ora demonstrated how prosthetics could create drama from an otherwise restrained silhouette at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London. She wore a backless black Primark gown that revealed an extraordinary prosthetic structure running down her back. The sculpted spikes resembled a reptilian or prehistoric spine, turning the exposed skin itself into part of the fashion statement.

Students at Cornell University began what was billed as a seven-hour sit-in on Wednesday in solidarity with "Jane Doe," the former student who alleges she was drugged and raped by multiple members of a fraternity on its Ithaca, N.Y., campus in October 2024.
"Seven hours for the seven hours she endured," a coalition of Cornell student groups said in an Instagram post announcing the demonstration. "Seven hours of solidarity. Seven hours demanding change."
About 80 students gathered in a campus dining hall named for Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison on Wednesday afternoon, according to NBC News. The protest was part of "Zero Day," which organizers described as an "economic blackout calling on students to disrupt business as usual by not attending class or spending on campus."
A Cornell University student sits with a sign during a campus-wide sit-in on Oct. 7.
The sit-in comes two days after thousands of people took part in a campus rally protesting Cornell's handling of Jane Doe's allegations. Demonstrators held signs accusing the school of protecting the alleged rapists and demanding accountability.

The 2020s will go down in history as one of the best times to be a stock market investor. After a brief dip in 2022, the benchmark S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) has soared by an average of roughly 21% per year -- double its 100-year average annual return of 10%.
That said, history shows us that significant drawdowns often follow periods of unusually elevated stock market gains as the market reverts to its long-running mean. Let's discuss some of the challenges facing this bull market to try to figure out what might come next.

By now, most investors have probably heard about the cyclically adjusted price-to-earnings (CAPE) ratio. This metric compares the price of the S&P 500 with its average inflation-adjusted earnings over the past decade. The long time frame smooths out short-term fluctuations, providing a clearer picture of the market's value relative to historical norms.
Right now, the CAPE ratio stands at 40.5, which is well above its average of 17.4. The other two major peaks occurred before the Great Depression in 1929 and during the dot-com bubble in 1999, when it hit its all-time high of 44.19. Both milestones were followed by substantial declines in equity prices over the subsequent years as the speculative bubbles deflated.

You've probably heard the cliché "it takes money to make money." And there's some truth to the premise. In the business world, you'll usually need at least a little seed capital to start.
If you're an investor with average income, however, you might be surprised how easily you could become a millionaire. And not from brilliantly lucky stock-picking, either; attempting to outperform the overall market can undermine your performance, in fact. The key, rather, is making disciplined contributions to the cause -- no matter how seemingly modest -- even when you don't want to make them. That's often when sticking with your plan helps the most.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
And $500 per month would do the trick, given enough time. Here's how, and why.
There's no denying that in the economic environment of 2026, coming up with an extra $500 per month can feel like a pretty tall order. For most households willing to buckle down on discretionary spending, though, it's possible. And if you're willing to invest that money in an S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) index fund that matches the broad market's average annual gain of 10%, in 30 years you'd be sitting on a little over $1.1 million (or slightly less if you're not contributing this cash to a tax-sheltering retirement account).

Louis Vuitton presented its Spring 2027 collection, designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, at the Cour Carrée du Louvre in Paris, and as always, I noticed a few trends in the front row.
Emma Stone and Ana de Armas tend to play it relatively safe with their Louis Vuitton front row looks, so both were welcome surprises. Emma's electric-blue tailoring had a stronger silhouette than we usually see from her, while Ana went tougher in black leather with cut-outs and buckled detailing. Two welcome changes of pace. Did either woman pull her look off for you?
The front row had plenty of New York representation, with Jennifer Connelly joining Keri Russell, Chloë Sevigny and the Haim sisters.
There's a lot going on with Jennifer Connelly's look, including some seriously divisive lace-up boots, but on Jennifer it works. It always works. She has never played it safe with Louis Vuitton, and I don't ever want her to.
Keri Russell will always serve up a sophisticated, sculptural point of view, and she found the perfect Louis Vuitton look. The only thing not working for me is the monogram bag. I wish it had been black.

Heidi Klum just brought a very special plus-one to Paris Fashion Week, and the mother-daughter duo is turning heads. The supermodel, 53, stepped out with her youngest child, 16-year-old daughter Lou, for the Vivienne Westwood show. It was the teen's Fashion Week debut, and she proved that she's been taking notes from her stylish mom. The pair coordinated in chic peplum silhouettes and towering platforms.
Heidi Klum and daughter Lou coordinated in peplum looks at the Vivienne Westwood show. Lou, whose dad is singer Seal, usually stays out of the spotlight, which makes this sweet outing even more special. A video from the event shows the two posing side by side in front of a white backdrop splashed with bold orange and red brushstrokes. They look relaxed, happy, and completely in sync.
Heidi went for a glamorous all-white moment. Her ivory satin blazer features a deep plunging neckline, sculpted shoulders, and a single gold ******* on at the waist. She paired it with a matching floor-length satin skirt that skimmed the ground. The model mom finished the look with a sparkling statement necklace and her golden blonde waves styled loose and tousled.
Lou, on the other hand, brought a warm and earthy twist. The teen wore a ******* on-front, corset-style mini dress in a washed brown print. The fitted bodice features thin straps and a scooped neckline, while the flared peplum waist adds a playful touch of movement. The design is a perfect nod to Westwood's famous love for dramatic corsetry and tailoring. She accessorized with a gold bangle and let her dark, voluminous curls fall naturally around her shoulders.
The most eye-catching part of both outfits is the footwear. Lou towers in patterned platform sandals with ankle straps, done in rich brown and red tones that match her dress. Heidi's blue platform shoes peek out from beneath her skirt in a closing shot, adding a fun pop of color to her neutral outfit.

Charles Spencer recalled an unusual memory involving ex-Prince Andrew in his Princess Diana memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister. He described an incident at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene at Sandringham when Andrew was a teenager. The revelation comes as Andrew challenges the legality of police searches connected to his arrest.
According to the Express UK, in his memoir, Spencer recalled attending the Church of St. Mary Magdalene at Sandringham with Diana when Andrew was a teenager. He wrote that he and Diana saw Andrew raise his eyebrows with "theatrical exaggeration" and smirk after a priest referred to "the virgin's womb." "He was clearly greatly amused by a reference to that part of a woman's anatomy in such a solemn setting," Spencer added.
This is one of the many controversial revelations he made in his memoir, one of which also included a heated conversation between him and King Charles following Princess Diana's death. Spencer alleged that the monarch told him over the phone call that "We'll forget her [Diana] soon enough."
This shocking revelation comes amid Andrew pursuing a judicial review, asking the court whether the police lawfully searched his properties and made his arrest. This review is in relation to warrants used to search his home at Sandringham and his former home, Royal Lodge, in Windsor. By doing so, he has become the first royal to challenge a proceeding.
According to the BBC, Thames Valley Police said in a statement: "We are engaged in legal proceedings in relation to warrants previously obtained from the Central Criminal Court." Adding, "As these legal proceedings are currently ongoing, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further." Andrew was stripped of his remaining military affiliations and royal patronages in 2022. In 2025, he announced that he would no longer use his ****** les and honors, including the Duke of York ****** le.

American Tower Corporation (NYSE:AMT) traded at around $165 on October 6, within five dollars of its 52-week low of $160.06.
The company keeps 45.41% of revenue as operating profit on a portfolio of communications towers leased to wireless carriers. A business that profitable sitting at a 52-week low is usually a disagreement about the future rather than the present.
READ ALSO: What is eBay's (EBAY) Economic Moat, and is it Widening or Narrowing?
A tower is difficult to replicate for reasons that have nothing to do with engineering. Local authorities restrict where new structures can go, so an existing site near a highway or a dense suburb cannot simply be copied next door.
The economics follow from that scarcity. The first tenant on a tower covers the construction and the ground lease, and each additional tenant is close to pure margin. Gross margin of 73.77% is what that layering produces, and the 45.41% operating margin is what survives after the overheads.

Henry Phipps co-founded Carnegie Steel with Andrew Carnegie, then spent decades deciding what to do with the money. In 1907, he formed Bessemer Trust as a family office with a staff devoted solely to his family's affairs, and he set up trusts for his five children. The trusts came with professionals hired to run them, and that's the part worth studying. An estate lawyer can still build a modern version, usually called a dynasty trust. Whether a family needs one depends mostly on the size of its estate.

Jim Cramer has built a career on conviction calls, and few have been more consistent than his faith in Amazon (AMZN). For years, the Mad Money host has treated the retail giant as close to untouchable. A permanent fixture in nearly every portfolio he recommends.
That changed, briefly and publicly, after watching a rival's AI demo live on air. Here is what Cramer actually said, the stock moves that gave his comment real weight, and what it all means for anyone holding either name heading into the rest of the year.

Cramer made the comment live on CNBC's Squawk on the Street on September 28, after watching a demonstration of Meta's (META) new AI shopping capability. "I'm an Amazon guy, but maybe I shouldn't be. This seemed impressive," he said, speaking as a shopper describing his own buying habits rather than making a stock call.
The timing gave the remark unusual weight. Meta shares had climbed roughly 24% over the prior month. Amazon fell roughly 8% over the same stretch. Investors were already debating which company was winning the fight for online shoppers before Cramer weighed in.

Before we get worried about recessions or market crashes, let's put a 10% drop in context. Going back to 1980, the S&P 500 has fallen 10% or more in roughly half of all calendar years, and a correction of that size has historically shown up about once every 12 to 18 months.
What makes a 10% decline packed into a single month unusual isn't the size of the drop, it's the speed: that kind of compressed move tends to show up during sudden shocks rather than the slower grind most corrections take. Even so, it's happened before, and the market has recovered every time.
Continue »
My goal here isn't to predict whether October brings one. It's to point to three consumer businesses whose underlying demand doesn't particularly care what the stock market does that month.
Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) makes Tide, Pampers, Crest, and Gillette. These products are the kind of household basics people buy again almost automatically, recession or not. That steadiness shows up in the numbers. P&G generated more than $87 billion in revenue in its 2026 fiscal year and returned over $15 billion to shareholders through dividends and buybacks.

Kanye West and Bianca Censori made a rare public appearance alongside North West over the weekend. Consequently, the teenager drew plenty of attention during the family outing. The trio attended the ComplexCon 2026 10-Year Anniversary Festival in Los Angeles. During the event, North appeared noticeably taller than her stepmother.
According to The Sun, Kanye West attended ComplexCon 2026 at the Los Angeles Convention Center with his wife, Bianca Censori, and his 13-year-old daughter, North West. The family reportedly arrived with a large security team and spent time exploring the festival while interacting with fans.
North stood out with bright blue hair, a black outfit, and bold makeup, while Bianca opted for a more covered-up look than her usual public style. The outlet noted that North appeared to tower over her stepmother during the outing, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about moments from the family's appearance.
Additional photos from the event showed Kanye and Bianca coordinating in black leather outfits as they walked around the convention with North. The trio was seen checking out attractions and greeting attendees throughout the festival.
The outing came shortly after Kim Kardashian opened up about raising her children in the public eye. Speaking to The Times, Kardashian admitted she worries about the pressures of fame for her children. She particularly harbors concerns for North, who has shown the strongest interest in being in the spotlight.
