Kearns died Monday, Oct. 5, according to longtime friend and journalist Karen Ocamb, who reported his death in the Los Angeles Blade. Filmmaker and professor Roland Palencia also confirmed the news in a social media tribute, revealing that Kearns had been in and out of emergency rooms several times in recent months. A cause of death has not been announced.

Actress Julie Hesmondhalgh is to become the first winner of The Theatres Trust's lifetime achievement award.
The former Coronation Street star from Accrington, Lancashire, is being recognised for her exceptional performances on stage and screen, as well as her work in championing regional theatres.
Hesmondhalgh, who played Hayley Cropper for more than 15 years, said she was "very honoured" with the accolade which will be presented to her at the inaugural Great British Theatres Awards in London on 2 November.

Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar, known for his intense performances and distinct dialogue delivery, has died at the age of 75 in Goa, his son Malhar told BBC Marathi.
One of the most recognisable faces of Indian cinema, Patekar won three National Film Awards and became known for playing complex, often volatile characters. He was also a prominent figure in Marathi language cinema and theatre.
He was rushed to hospital after being found unconscious at his home in Goa in the early hours of Thursday.
"Despite 45 minutes of continuous CPR, he could not be revived," Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital in Goa told ANI news agency.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led tributes to the actor, praising Patekar's versatility and outspoken personality.

Bundy originated Tina Denmark in the 1992 production of Ruthless!, with Spears holding the understudy job first and Portman replacing her later. On a balmy July evening in New York City, I was lucky enough to be wandering around Greenwich Village with a coffee in hand, down a narrow street to the Minetta Lane (now Audible) Theatre to see Gloria Steinem speak.
Those two shows on July 14 and 16 turned out to be her last major public event appearances before her passing on Sept. 2. She spoke on a range of topics, and the program will soon be released as an Audible Original on Sept. 17. The marquees for all 41 Broadway theatres will be dimmed in honor of Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, Clive Davis and more stars who've recently passed away.
On Wednesday, the Broadway In Memoriam Committee confirmed the list of late honorees. On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the marquees will dim at 6:45 p.m. ET. Gina Ferrall, Josh Grisetti, Jeff Hamlin, Glen Hansard, Louise Lasser, Anna Louizos, Seth Marquette, Anne Russell, James Walsh and Harold Wheeler will also be honored.
In 2025, the Broadway In Memoriam Committee created a quarterly tradition called Broadway in Memoriam to honor individuals who left their mark on the Great White Way. The mass dimming now takes place four times a year on the second Tuesday of September, December, March and June.
Parton wrote the music and lyrics for the 2009 stage adaptation of "9 to 5," which received four Tony Award nominations, including one for her original score. The singer's second show, "Dolly: A True Original Musical" will begin previews Dec. 7 at the St. James Theatre in New York City with an opening set for Jan. 19, 2027, on what would have been her 81st birthday. Peter Cullen, the Canadian voice actor whose deep, measured baritone gave Optimus Prime his voice across four decades of the Transformers franchise, died at his Los Angeles home He was 85. No cause of death was confirmed, and the passing was first reported by TMZ.
His family said in a statement, "Peter Cullen passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family — and held in the hearts of his many friends and countless fans worldwide. His family asks that you honor his remarkable legacy by serving your communities and leading others with compassion, integrity, and loyalty, and always remember: be strong enough to be gentle."
That last phrase — "be strong enough to be gentle" — was the advice Cullen's brother Larry gave him when he auditioned for the role of Optimus Prime in 1984. Cullen based the character's voice on Larry, a Marine veteran, deciding that a true leader's strength should carry warmth rather than aggression. The audition won him the long-running role.
Cullen's animation career began well before Transformers, voicing characters across Pac-Man, Rainbow Brite, Voltron, The Addams Family, and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers as Monterey Jack, and provided the vocal effects of the Predator in the ep 1987 film of the same name. Eiffage has secured contracts worth a combined €132m ($153.9m) for two hospital projects in France, via its subsidiaries Eiffage Énergie Systèmes and Eiffage Construction.
The bulk of the total, close to €109m, covers the first phase of the Convergences project at Angers University Hospital, where a new medical-technical platform is planned.
Eiffage Construction will handle the main structural works, the building envelope and finishing works under the macro-works package.
Eiffage Énergie Systèmes takes the ventilation and electrical packages, covering power and low-voltage systems.
The Angers building will span 38,400m² over five storeys and house emergency services, operating theatres, imaging and adult critical care units.

The veteran infielder infused a badly-needed energy and leadership with the Mets fading in the standings. By the end of the campaign, with his Latin pop hit "OMG" serving as the team's soundtrack, the Mets fired their way into the National League Championship Series.
Now, two years later, Iglesias is bringing that passion and energy into a far different setting than the baseball diamond, just down the road on Broadway.
The 36-year-old will become the first Major League Baseball player to perform on Broadway when he takes the role of Narrator in "Buena Visa Social Club" for a six-week stint starting on Aug. 27 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.
"It's very smooth. The energy, it's an excellent musical. I'm surrounded by great teammates over there," Iglesias said before throwing out the first pitch ahead of the Mets' game on Tuesday at Citi Field. "They support me on a daily basis. They know this is totally new for me.
