Lea Salonga has spent decades giving some of Disney's best-known heroines their singing voices. On Friday, Hollywood finally put her own name in the pavement, with several performers who understood exactly how far that voice had traveled standing beside her.
Salonga received the 2,855th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 4, becoming the first Filipina to receive the honor. Her star was dedicated in the Live Performance category outside the Pantages Theatre, where Brandy, Ming-Na Wen and Darren Criss joined her for the ceremony, according to BroadwayWorld. H.E.R. was also among those in attendance.
Brandy connected Salonga's Broadway career to the millions who first knew her as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and Mulan in Mulan. "There are singers who reach notes. Lea reaches hearts and souls," she told the crowd, later describing Salonga as someone who had "left the doorway open" for the artists who followed.
Salonga looked toward the next person instead. Recalling the little girl in the Philippines who simply loved to perform, she said she hopes a young Filipino child eventually finds her star in Hollywood and thinks, "Oh, maybe I can get here too."
Brandy's tribute centered on what Salonga's voice represented before many young viewers even knew the name of the performer behind it. Through Jasmine and Mulan, she said, Salonga gave children who had felt outside the fairy tale a way into it.

The 2026 US Open has attracted plenty of star power alongside the world's best tennis players, with celebrities turning up at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to watch the action.
Several familiar names have already been spotted at the tournament, ranging from musicians and Hollywood actors to former professional athletes.

The Cubs outscored the Diamondbacks 11-7 in this three-game series.
Unfortunately, they don't grant series wins that way. Arizona simply spread their runs out better than the Cubs did. and in Wednesday's game, Eduardo Rodriguez, Brandyn Garcia and Juan Morillo held the Cubs scoreless on just two hits, and the Cubs dropped the series finale 2-0, losing the series and finishing their road trip at 2-4.
It's even more frustrating because the Cubs got excellent work out of all three of their starting pitchers in this series. Kevin Gausman, Clay Holmes and Matthew Boyd held the Diamondbacks to eight hits and one run in 20 total innings of work. That's just outstanding. Unfortunately, one blown save and one excellent pitching performance by Rodriguez made this a Cubs series loss.
The Cubs were held hitless by Rodriguez for the first four innings until Tyrone Taylor singled leading off the fifth. Taylor eventually stole second, but was stranded.

Charlamagne tha God is drawing a firm line around Brandy after her brother Ray J's boxing match on Saturday night.
Following his unanimous-decision victory over Orlando Brown at State Farm Arena on Aug. 15, Brandy found herself pulled into tense interaction with boxer-turned-streamer Adrien Broner. Charlamagne, clearly unimpressed, spoke out to say she has no business being anywhere near it. "I just don't like seeing Brandy in that mix," he said, characterizing the surrounding drama as a "n***a mess" — his words, not ours — according to a YouTube clip.
Brandy had shown up to State Farm Arena in support of her brother, who defeated Brown on a Salita Promotions card headlined by Claressa Shields and streamed by Zeus Network. During a pre-fight livestream, Broner accused Brandy of snubbing him after she walked into a room and greeted others before getting to him. "She just walked past me, but it's alright," Broner said on stream. In the clip, Brandy is seen acknowledging him before approaching the others in the room, including her brother.

The singer appeared taken aback by the streamer's reaction. "I didn't walk past you. I spoke to you," Brandy told Broner calmly. She also noted that "the energy in here is interesting" and walked away with her security.

The bond market has been sending a warning signal this summer. On Wednesday, the Treasury Department responded.
After a bond market selloff drove long-term U.S. bond yields to their highest level in years, the Treasury Department announced today that it is at least doubling its planned buybacks of longer-term government bonds, from a maximum of $2 billion to at least $4 billion. The change will start on September 9 and run through November 4, the day after the midterm elections.
"This administration needs a win and maybe that comes in the form of artificially trying to keep long Treasury rates contained," Jack McIntyre, a portfolio manager at Brandywine Global Investment Management, told Bloomberg. "They have to try something. Sentiment around the long-end globally is about as bearish as I have seen in a very long time."
The surprise announcement came just weeks after the Treasury Department had issued its quarterly "refunding" announcement, detailing its near-term debt-management plans. That suggests that the recent bond selloff really did set off some alarm bells at the Treasury, which said in its announcement that its move is meant "to provide greater liquidity support" at the long end of the bond market.
The announcement had the desired immediate effect of lowering longer-term yields, which had been rising because of concerns about persistent inflation and higher oil prices due to the war with Iran as well as worries about the U.S. budget deficit and rising debt. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury, which had been just under 4% at the end of February, topped 4.7% earlier this week, a sizable move for the bond market. And the 30-year Treasury yield this week reached its highest level since June 2007, before the financial crisis of 2008 sent interest rates plunging toward zero. Both fell back on Wednesday following the Treasury Department's announcement.

Sometimes you roll snake eyes and the Atlanta Braves very nearly did end up doing so against the Snakes, themselves. The Arizona Diamondbacks may have been coming into town following a series loss to the Colorado Rockies (in Arizona, mind you) but they were entering this series with two monsters getting starts for them in their rotation. Brandon Pfaadt and Eduardo Rodriguez have both been lights-out recently and Michael Soroka has also been very solid as well.
As such, this wasn't going to be an easy task for the Braves — especially after they completed the monumental task of finally beating the New York Mets in a three-game series. As such, a bit of a letdown was always on the cards and that's what happened in this particular series. Fortunately, some timely hitting from one of baseball's top power hitters helped Atlanta avert a disastrous sweep. Let's get into how everything went down over the weekend, shall we?
So this was one of those games where there wasn't much the Braves could do — the Diamondbacks and their pitching was just too much to handle. Brandon Pfaadt has been on a heater since late-July, as he hasn't given up an earned run since the first inning of his start against the Cardinals back on July 22 — and funnily enough, his current teammate Lars Nootbaar was the one who brought in that run against him.
Anyways, Pfaadt was absolutely nightmarish for the Braves to deal with and this one was essentially set in stone once Arizona managed to take advantage of some shaky defense from Atlanta in the first inning in order to plate the only run that Chris Sale ended up surrendering. Once Pfaadt was done, Arizona called upon both Juan Morillo and Brandyn Garcia to finish things off and they've both been lights out on the road lately so the Braves were essentially walking into a snake pit (for lack of a better term) in this situation. Atlanta only mustered up three hits and this was pure dominance from Arizona's pitching staff.
Chris Sale was excellent, as usual, it must be noted. Despite the fact that the Braves once again had a tough time dealing with the other team's top guy in this matchup, Sale remained upbeat about things and even expressed a bit of excitement about matchups like this when I asked him about it after the game. "You take this one on the chin," explained Sale. "What these guys have done throughout the year and what they're going to continue to do, you certainly don't expect that. But it happens — I've had blow-up starts where I'm sure they thought they were going to get six innings of one-run ball and it's not. We pick each other up and we keep moving forward."

Derry City interim manager Mark Connolly has reiterated that James McClean remains employed by the club despite speculation over his future.
Former Republic of Ireland international McClean attended an open training session on Tuesday amid reports that the club are attempting to find a settlement that will end his time at the Brandywell Stadium.
"It was interesting to see the speculation on him turning up for training [on Tuesday]," said Connolly, the Candystripes' director of football who took on responsibility for the first team following Tiernan Lynch's departure last week.
"Ultimately he's trained sometimes and he hasn't trained sometimes due to his age.
"James is a Derry City player and we keep moving forward. He's one of 20-odd players. They're all Derry City players."

With Derry City having confirmed the departure of Tiernan Lynch as manager on Wednesday, speculation has inevitably turned to who may occupy the role on a permanent basis in future.
Former club captain Mark Connolly has been put in temporary charge of first team affairs on an interim basis and has a chance to impress the Candystripes board in the post over the coming games.
Several other candidates will likely be on the lips and minds of the supporters of the Brandywell club, who may opt to wait until the end of the present campaign before making a permanent appointment.
Any potential new boss will take up the mantle of trying to secure the club's first league success since way back in 1997, an achievement which has eluded several high-profile managers over the years.

PULLMAN — When September rolls around and Washington State players take the field at Husky Stadium to take on rival Washington, and when the Cougars' defense rolls out, good luck recognizing any of the players in the visitors' secondary.
That's because among the 32 transfers WSU landed over the offseason, several of them play cornerback, a position at which the Cougs desperately needed to restock. Head coach Kirby Moore and staff did well to do so, likely using connections like new safeties coach Greg Burns and cornerbacks coach Brandyn Thompson to land a couple players.
But who are the new guys in this position group? And how might they fare this fall?
Players who will be vying for starting jobs include Texas State transfer Khamari Terrell, Oregon State transfer Jalil Tucker, Cal Poly transfer CJ Solis-Lumar, junior college transfer Elmo Wharton and others. A few returners will be in the mix too — keep an eye on redshirt freshman Jamarey Smith, who started in the Potato Bowl last winter, plus Kai Rapolla and Ishmael Gibbs — but the biggest roles will likely belong to a combination of transfers.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Geraldo Perdomo and Gabriel Moreno had back-to-back RBI singles off Erik Sabrowski in a four-run eighth inning, lifting the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night.
Ketel Marte also singled home a run in the eighth as the Diamondbacks won their third straight game and moved into sole possession of the second wild-card spot in the National League. Arizona, which didn't advance a runner past second base in the first seven innings, is an NL-best 13-5 since July 9.
Jonathan Loaisiga (3-3) pitched a scoreless seventh for the win. Brandyn Garcia worked the ninth for his third save, wrapping up a combined three-hitter that began with rookie Mitch Bratt throwing five innings.
Guardians starter Tanner Bibee (4-11) allowed two runs and three hits in 7 1/3 innings. Sabrowski entered with two runners aboard and issued a walk to Corbin Carroll before Perdomo and Moreno both delivered.
Carroll scored on Moreno's base hit when right fielder Angel Martínez committed a fielding error.

CHICAGO − Michigan football's first game in the 2025 season came against New Mexico, a relatively innocuous foe.
But former safety Brandyn Hillman didn't see it that way. In fact, after spending all fall hitting people at practice that wore the same colors as he did, the defensive back couldn't wait to knock somebody else around, especially a team that looked like New Mexico, wearing cherry and silver − not dissimilar to the scarlet and gray sported by the Wolverines' biggest rival.
"How I look at it is, they got the same colors as [expletive] Ohio State," he said of switching his mentality from hitting teammates to hitting opponents. "I just play it like that, to be honest."
For decades, "The Game" has been the most important week on the schedule in both Ann Arbor and Columbus. After Jim Harbaugh lost the first five matchups to OSU in the rivalry (and then U-M bowed out of the sixth in 2020 after an outbreak of COVID-19 in the locker room), he went into 2021 saying the Wolverines were going to beat Ohio State "or die trying."
U-M snapped a decade-long drought that year, which begun a four-year run, featuring two wins in each city. Fans want to hear that a coach is full of vitriol towards the Buckeyes, but when Kyle Whittingham spoke earlier this week at Big Ten Media Days, he didn't exactly play into the fans' emotions and match their energy for their rival.

Derry City have to overcome a one-goal deficit in the second leg of their Conference League second qualifying round tie as Rijeka were 1-0 victors against the Candystripes in Croatia.
The sides were goalless at the break after the hosts dominated the ball, before Michael Duffy's late effort almost had the visitors ahead.
Croatia international Toni Fruk, fresh home from the World Cup, broke the dead-lock on 52 minutes with what proved to be the winner, punishing a lapse of concentration in the Derry defence.
Tiernan Lynch's side will now host the Croatian side at the Brandywell on 30 July.
The home side dominated for the majority of the first half without really troubling Brian Maher in the Derry City goal.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Nolan Arenado and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had run-scoring hits and Arizona's eventual winning run scored on a passed ball — all in the ninth inning — as the Diamondbacks beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 Tuesday night.
All the runs in the game were scored in the ninth inning.
The Diamondbacks managed just three hits in the first eight innings. In the ninth, Gabriel Moreno singled and Pavin Smith walked before Arenado hit an RBI double to left-center field. Gurriel followed with a two-run single to center for a 3-0 lead before Jorge Barrosa scored on a passed ball by Cardinals catcher Jimmy Crooks.
Arizona starter pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez allowed just three hits through 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked three. Kevin Ginkel (3-2) pitched the eighth, striking out one and earned the win. Brandyn Garcia earned his first save of the season.
The Cardinals mounted a comeback in the bottom half of the ninth.
