The US LBM Coaches Poll following college football's Week 1 results was released on Tuesday, with the Florida Gators entering the top 25 after a decisive 66-21 victory over the FAU Owls inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Jon Sumrall's squad began the season just outside the rankings in the de facto No. 27 spot with 147 votes when the first edition of the poll was released back at the beginning of August. With one-plus week of play now in the books, the Orange and Blue finds itself now tied with the Virginia Cavaliers for the No. 25 spot with 157 votes — both of whom are just seven votes behind the No. 24 Michigan Wolverines.
Next up for Florida are the Campbell Fighting Camels, an FCS program that will travel to the Swamp on Saturday, Sept. 12, for a clash on the collegiate gridiron. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.

The Jayhawks accumulated more than 600 yards of offense, but now, the juices will be flowing a little more this week for the 122nd installment of the rivalry with the Tigers, which returned last year after a 14-year hiatus.
"Last year, getting the teams back together reignited the sparks so to speak of this rivalry and the intensity of it," Kansas head coach Lance Leipold said. "Now, it's not on the books for a while after Friday, so hopefully it can be."
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night in Lawrence.

She suffers from a rare neurological condition, Stiff Person Syndrome, which causes stiff muscles in the arms, legs and torso, and can be extremely painful. At one point, the syndrome made it difficult for Dion to sing.

On August 6, SIGA Technologies (NASDAQ:SIGA) reported financial results for the three and six months ended June 30, and the numbers tell two very different stories depending on which quarter you compare them to. Revenue and profit both cratered from a year ago, yet the company still turned a profit, paid out a special dividend, and closed the books on a major government contract. For a stock priced at less than three times forward earnings, that combination is worth unpacking.
The quarter's headline number is $37 million in TPOXX sales spread across three customers. That included $24 million of IV TPOXX delivered to the US strategic national stockpile and $13 million of oral TPOXX sold to two international buyers. CEO Diem Nguyen pointed to deliveries spanning the US, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region, across multiple formulations, as evidence the company is executing its plan to sell TPOXX to a broader mix of regions and customers rather than leaning on a single buyer.
That IV shipment also marked something bigger. The deliveries completed the last procurement order under the 19C contract, the government agreement that has anchored SIGA's stockpile sales for years. Wrapping up that order cleanly, alongside new international oral TPOXX business, supports the idea that SIGA can keep generating meaningful revenue even as its original government relationship winds down. The company also stayed profitable through the transition. Net income came in at $12.5 million for the quarter and $9 million for the first half of the year, and it still had room to pay shareholders a special cash dividend of $0.6 per share, declared March 26 and paid out April 23 to holders of record as of April 7. A company burning cash could not make that call.
Set next to a year ago, the quarter looks like a steep step down. Product sales fell to $37.9 million from $79.1 million, and six-month product sales dropped to $41.4 million from $84.9 million. Total revenue followed the same path, sliding to $41 million from $81.1 million in the quarter and to $47.2 million from $88.2 million over six months.
Profitability fell even faster than revenue. Operating income dropped to $13.9 million from $45.7 million in the quarter, and to $8.6 million from $43.4 million over six months. Net income slid to $12.5 million from $35.5 million, and diluted earnings per share fell to $0.17 from $0.49. The six-month numbers show the same pattern, with EPS down to $0.13 from $0.49. And with the last 19C procurement order now delivered, the specific piece of business that drove those bigger prior-year numbers will not simply repeat itself, leaving the company to lean on the newer international and stockpile orders it is still building out.

A royal expert claims Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want the "best of both worlds" with their UK move. She alleged that they want access to the royal family while maintaining their independent lives in the US. The Sussexes arrived in the country on August 26 and are reportedly looking for private accommodation outside London.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Fox News Digital that Harry and Markle's latest move to the UK could be more about testing the waters than a permanent relocation. She said, "I suspect they want the best of both worlds — access to Britain, proximity to the monarchy and the credibility that comes with Harry's royal identity, while maintaining the freedom and commercial opportunities they ***** ociate with life outside the U.K."
The commenter added that their current arrangement seems familiar to the "half-in, half-out" policy, which Queen Elizabeth rejected when they left the UK in 2020. It took until Sunday night, but the Big Ten's Week 1 is officially in the books. All 18 teams have now played at least one game (USC played two before most ever played one), and we're starting to get an idea of how good (or bad) teams might be. Though next week should tell us even more -- a lot more.
There was a big upset, with Rutgers going down to UMass on Thursday to kick things off, and a near upset with Michigan football surviving what was thought to be an overmatched Western Michigan team. Some teams, like Oregon, got off to a slow start, while others were exactly as expected, like Michigan State.

NEW DELHI: The no-handshake saga between India and Pakistan continued in women's cricket as Harmanpreet Kaur and Fatima Sana once again refrained from exchanging the customary gesture during the toss ahead of their Women's Asia Cup 2026 clash in Dubai on Saturday.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana won the toss and elected to bat first, with the latest India-Pakistan encounter beginning with the now-familiar absence of a handshake between the two captains.

The no-handshake stance has continued across India-Pakistan cricket encounters since last year, with the protocol also observed when the two sides met during the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup in Birmingham.

The focus, however, quickly shifted to the contest itself, with Pakistan looking to post a challenging total after opting to bat.

"We're gonna bat first because we want to put a maximum total here. [Did the last game influence this decision?] Yeah, because we know we have a good bowling side, so we will try to restrict them. [How have you addressed the batting wobble?] We had a good chat with the team, and we just want to play according to the pitch," Sana said.
India entered the contest in a strong position after winning their opening two matches against Thailand and Hong Kong, China, and securing a place in the semi-finals. Pakistan, meanwhile, began their campaign with a win over Thailand and still have a group-stage game against Hong Kong, China after the India clash.

India have also enjoyed a dominant recent record against their neighbours in T20Is, having won nine of their last 10 meetings, with their only defeat in that stretch coming during the 2022 Asia Cup.

Harmanpreet said India were happy to bowl first, backing their bowling attack to restrict Pakistan to a manageable total.

"Our bowling is doing great in this tournament, and good to get the opportunity to bowl first. [How challenging is chasing?] I think while batting it's always about giving ourselves some time and then going for your shots. And I think the first two games we did really well in that department, and hopefully we'll continue. [On leading for the 150th time in T20Is] Great achievement. But the key is to keep enjoying yourself on the field, and that is key; I try to keep up with that. [What score would you like to chase?] We'll try to restrict them to a short total, so there won't be pressure while chasing," she said.
The India captain also entered the record books on Saturday, becoming the first cricketer — male or female — to captain in 150 T20I matches.

Harmanpreet's landmark came in the same match in which India are aiming to complete a perfect three wins from three in the group stage.

Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu is second on the list with 121 matches as captain, followed by Australia's Meg Lanning on 100.

On August 13, Legence Corp. (NASDAQ:LGN) reported second-quarter results that more than doubled the company's revenue from a year earlier, a jump big enough to make even seasoned investors do a double take. Strip out the contribution from the company's Bowers acquisition and the underlying business still grew 60%. But dig one line deeper into the same report and a less flattering picture shows up: profitability per dollar of revenue actually shrank, and the bottom line posted a wider loss than it did last year. That contrast, blistering growth paired with thinning margins, is the story investors now have to sort out.
The headline number was revenue of $1.26 billion for the quarter, up 110.7% from $598.9 million a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA climbed even faster in percentage terms, rising 114.1% to $154.6 million, which tells you the company managed to grow its cash-generating profit measure roughly in step with the top line even during a period of heavy acquisition-driven expansion. Backlog and awarded contracts, effectively the pipeline of future work already on the books, reached $5.67 billion, more than double the $2.77 billion Legence held a year earlier.
That backlog is not concentrated in one place either. While data centers and technology remained the biggest driver, management pointed to healthy activity across life sciences and healthcare, state and local government, and education as well, spreading the growth across several end markets rather than resting it on a single customer type. The Installation & Maintenance segment did the heavy lifting, with revenue up 162% to $1.06 billion, and even after removing the Bowers acquisition's impact, that segment still grew 86.6% on its own.
Management also used the quarter to raise its full-year guidance, now targeting $4.7 billion to $4.8 billion in revenue, up from a prior range of $4.1 billion to $4.3 billion, alongside adjusted EBITDA guidance lifted to $565 million to $585 million from $470 million to $490 million.
The same report shows profitability moving in the opposite direction of revenue. Gross margin fell to 17.4% from 21.5% a year ago, and the non-GAAP adjusted version slipped to 18.5% from 21.8%, a shift the company attributed to a revenue mix leaning more heavily toward lower-margin installation and maintenance work. The Engineering & Consulting segment felt this directly, with gross profit down 12.4% to $56.1 million even as its revenue grew, a sign that pricing and cost pressure in that business outpaced its sales growth. Net loss attributable to Legence widened to $27.8 million from $5.3 million a year earlier, and the company's total net loss grew to $34.6 million from $3.9 million.

Just when the UFC's heavyweight division is getting a surge of interest, Mario Pinto has entered the conversation.
And he'll really be part of the talk if he delivers on the expectations of him Saturday at UFC Fight Night 287 at Accor Arena in Paris. Pinto (12-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) takes on Ryan Spann (24-11 MMA, 10-6 UFC) in a heavyweight bout that has him up against someone with three times his pro experience.
He's unbeaten in three UFC fights, plus his DWCS tryout – which he counts as UFC experience even if the record books don't – and he's a 3-1 betting favorite. And he feels it, even if he's done worrying about if that first loss will come.
"There's definitely pressure – lots of pressure," Pinto told the UFC this week in Paris. "But at the end of the day, whatever happens happens. It's fighting. It's a lot easier to be undefeated in boxing – they're protected. In the UFC, you've got to fight the best. You can't really pick who you want.
"I don't care anymore now about the record stuff. I just want to go out there and perform."

The history books will be kinder to Cathy Engelbert than this last year was as WNBA commissioner.
Six expansion teams. An international market. A landmark media rights deal. Exploding TV viewership and arena attendance numbers. Team valuations topping out at $1 billion and averaging $460 million.
Then there's the league's first $1 million player salaries and a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) based on revenue-sharing, marking the second "transformational" CBA she oversaw. They bookend a mind-boggling ascension for women's sports collectively in Engelbert's seven years running a league that turned 30 this year, and is the longest-running women's league in the United States.
Pull back 10,000 feet, and those are the highlights of a theoretical Encyclopedia Britannica entry, not the turmoil that ultimately led to Engelbert's decision to retire at the end of the year, announced on Friday. She is the league's second-longest-tenured leader, and told the ****** ociated Press she had initially intended to do the job for three and a half years. She sped past that short window, and told the AP she had been mulling the decision for months.
"This is a really good time given the financial transformation journey we've been on," Engelbert told the outlet, adding it was her decision and she did not feel pressure from NBA or WNBA stakeholders. "Getting the collective bargaining agreement done, getting a long-term media rights deal done, getting expansion done."

Julián Álvarez ended the summer window still on Atlético Madrid's books, but that outcome has settled almost nothing. Barcelona spent the entire market chasing the Argentine, Atlético publicly rejected the pursuit in increasingly hostile terms, and ******* nal explored an offer of their own while the whole thing threatened to boil over. The question now isn't whether the saga is over – it plainly isn't – but which of the three forces at play, Atlético's contractual leverage, Barcelona's valuation, or Álvarez's own stated preference, actually decides what happens next.
Álvarez himself gave the clearest signal of intent back in June, telling ESPN after Argentina's World Cup win over Austria that a transfer to Barcelona was the best thing for everyone and that he wanted to fulfil his dream. Those words were music to Joan Laporta's ears and poison to Atlético's dressing room. Everything that has followed, including deadline day passing without a deal, sits downstream of that one public admission.
Álvarez's Atlético contract runs until June 2030 and carries a release clause of around €500 million – a figure so far beyond market reality that it functions purely as leverage, not a genuine asking price. Barcelona say they made a €100 million bid; Atlético sources initially denied receiving any offer at all before later confirming one had arrived, structured across six yearly instalments and worth that same €100 million.
On July 30, with the dispute already curdling, Atlético reported Barcelona to the Spanish Football Federation over their pursuit of the player. No public update from the federation had followed by the time The Athletic's reconstruction of the saga was published. Álvarez remained at the Metropolitano when the window shut, and reports suggest he is expected to stay at Atlético at least until the January window reopens the conversation.
Before the summer even began, senior Atlético sources indicated the club would let Álvarez leave for €150 million provided a deal closed by July 20. That deadline passed with no agreement, and Atlético's position hardened dramatically. By late June, chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín was drawing a line that had nothing to do with valuation gaps.

Every now and then there's a quarterback with raw talent and potential silently grooming his game in the East Bay of Berkeley, California.
Surely, you've heard of Fernando Mendoza, Jared Goff, Aaron Rodgers, Kyle Boller and Troy Taylor.
Well, Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele is on the way to becoming the next one up. He's not on anybody's Heisman prediction list, but the he's got Heisman expectations and future NFL draft pick written all over him.
Sagapolutele enters the 2026 season as a sophomore who's already put his name in the record books of California Golden Bears football. He started all 13 games as a true freshman, the first to do so since Goff in 2013.
He started and put together a great campaign. He finished the 2025 season with 316-of-492 passes for 3,454 yards with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. His total completions, attempts and passing yards in a season were second-highest by a Cal freshman quarterback behind Goff, who eventually became the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Ripple dollar-pegged stablecoin RLUSD has surpassed a $2Bn market capitalization, with more than $1Bn of that supply issued on the XRP Ledger, according to Jack McDonald, Ripple's senior vice president responsible for stablecoins.
The milestone arrived less than two years after RLUSD's launch, McDonald said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, first reported by blockchain outlet The Crypto Basic.
This is not simply a supply-growth headline. It is Ripple's clearest signal yet that RLUSD is meant to function as dollar-based settlement infrastructure across tokenized finance, payments, and lending, rather than as a token confined to exchange order books.
McDonald's disclosure stated that RLUSD issued on the XRP Ledger alone has exceeded $1Bn, a figure distinct from the token's total market capitalization across all networks.
The primary reporting places this announcement in early September, with The Crypto Basic's account crediting the milestone to McDonald's own attestation post rather than to a third-party data aggregator.

There are not many believers in the 2026 version of the Miami Dolphins in the national media. Ever since the hiring of new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and the subsequent mass exodus of talent across the roster, the talk has been more about Miami's dead cap situation and the possibility of the organization "earning" the number one overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft than the team possibly winning actual football games on the field this upcoming season.
In Week One, Miami will travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders — a team that won three games in 2025 and wound up picking first in the 2026 NFL Draft themselves. Still, heading into that game, the Dolphins are considered the underdogs according to most sportsbooks. In fact, in most places, the Raiders are favored by at least three points, with some sites favoring them by four points or more.

Another month of Yankees baseball is in the books, and though their situation in the American League East has changed little of late, there was plenty of good baseball to take in. While the defensive slump George Lombard Jr. found himself for part of August is likely the lasting memory, the month also brought plenty of highlight reel plays. Here, early in the month against the Cardinals, the rookie backhanded a sharp two hopper before throwing across his body to kick off an inning-ending double play. Despite the low points of late, we should be seeing highlights at short from Lombard Jr. for years to come.

Thanks to the first international game of the season matching the 49ers and Rams in Melbourne, Australia, the Week 1 schedule has been expanded by a day.
That allows the reigning Super Bowl champions to host the traditional season opener, with the Seahawks set to welcome the Patriots.
It's a full slate of action from there, with the Giants and Cowboys getting the initial "Sunday Night Football" game of the season and Chiefs vs. Broncos wrapping up the opening week on "Monday Night Football".

Ads are coming for your LLM queries: OpenAI, the company behind the LLM, said this week its advertising business hit a $1 billion annualized run rate in well under a year.
OpenAI first slotted ads into ChatGPT in February in the U.S. and has slowly rolled out options for advertisers to purchase slots right in the LLM around the globe. On Monday, that option was extended to India, ⁠Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
But rather than the search engine optimization of the mid-2010s yore, which catalyzed a boom-and-bust cycle for digital media platforms like HuffPost and BuzzFeed, these ads are placed directly into ChatGPT's output alongside similar queries. OpenAI's about to find out if the 2020s version is any different.
Ask ChatGPT for a recommendation for the best pen for taking notes, and you might be served an ad for notebooks. And so forth. It's a burgeoning marketing-science (with a healthy dash of pseudoscience) field called GEO, or Generative Engine Optimization.

It was Shondell's 513th career victory at Purdue, surpassing Hall of Fame men's basketball coach Gene Keady's total of 512. Shondell's achievement was announced and promoted as a Purdue record for most head coaching victories.
While it is a Purdue record for a coach in one sport, according to Purdue record books, that career win total ranks second in Boilermaker history.

The wait is finally over! College football is back, and the Gophers open their 2026 regular season on Thursday night at 7 p.m. CT against Eastern Illinois at Huntington Bank Stadium. Minnesota is currently favored to win by as many as 43.5 points on some sportsbooks, but the Panthers are already 1-0 on the season.
Here are our staff's predictions for Thursday night.
The Gophers were favored by a similar spread last season against FCS opponent Northwestern State, and they won that game 66-0. Oddly enough, the Demons also snapped a losing streak before playing Minnesota in that one.
A returning QB, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator makes me think Minnesota could get off to a hot start on Thursday night and cover the massive 43.5-point number. Eastern Illinois has lost its last three games against FBS opponents by a combined score of 132-7. I think Minnesota flexes its muscles early, and the majority of the starters are done before the fourth quarter, as they prepare for a massive Week 2 game against Mississippi State.

When bestselling author Katherine Rundell meets young readers, they sometimes play it cool.

Speaking to USA TODAY with the soothing lilt of a Miss Honey, Rundell is protective of her young readers and their imaginations. In a recent essay in The Guardian, she argued that artificial intelligence "risks becoming an iron curtain that comes down between a young person and their potential for thinking."
Could fantasy books be the antidote? Rundell is the first author since J.K. Rowling to simultaneously top the children's book charts in the UK and U.S. Queen Camilla will gift every Year 6 student in the UK a copy of "Impossible Creatures" for Christmas this year. Walt Disney Studios has ***** ed up the film rights for a whopping seven figures. And a recent review said the series' next installment, "The Neverfear" (out now from Knopf Books for Young Readers) "would make JRR Tolkien proud."
"I don't think the world is going to become an easier place to be in the next few years. I think it's going to get harder … So I would love to write a book that has in it peril, danger, but also has in it a sense that even amid peril and danger and fear, it is worth finding reasons to rejoice," she tells USA TODAY. "There is a reason that the book begins and ends with a feast, because I wanted the idea that there is always cause for hope. There is always a reason to come together and celebrate love, celebrate humanity."
