Israeli actor, singer and theater figure Illy Gorlizki, one of the most recognizable figures in Israeli culture across generations, died at the age of 91, his partner and leading cultural institutions said on Monday.
Born in Tel Aviv in 1935, Gorlizki spent more than seven decades working in theater, film, television and Israeli music, taking part in some of the formative moments of Israeli popular culture.
Gorlizki began his theater career as a teenager. At 17, he was accepted to the drama school affiliated with the Ohel Theater and simultaneously began appearing in small roles. During his military service, he joined the Central Command entertainment troupe, where he sang and performed alongside several young talents who would later become pillars of Israeli entertainment.
He secured his place in Israel's cultural pantheon in 1964, when he starred as Shlomo in the celebrated musical King Solomon and Shalmai the Shoemaker alongside Yona Atari. The fashion and costume designer Bob Mackie, whose glittering creations have been worn by Cher, Dolly Parton, Tina Turner and Miley Cyrus, has died at age 87, according to his social accounts.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today. He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do," read a post on his Instagram account. "His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world."
Mackie became known for his glamorous designs after collaborating with Cher, dressing her on television and on tour. He also served as the costume designer for "The Carol Burnett Show," responsible for Burnett's entire wardrobe. Nicknamed the Sultan of Sequins, the Rajah of Rhinestones and the Guru of Glitter, Mackie's ostentatious, flattering looks became instantly recognizable over the course of his career. His popularity continued into the modern day, with his archive coveted by a new generation of stars.
For his stage and screen work, Mackie has been awarded nine Emmys, an induction into the Television Academy Hall of Fame and three Academy Award nominations. In 1999, he received a retrospective at the Museum at FIT. More recently, he won a Tony Award for the musical "The Cher Show" and a lifetime achievement award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Fern Mallis, former executive director of CFDA and founder of New York Fashion Week, credited him with many of the red carpet trends we continue to see today.

He eventually began living with his father after he moved to Rosemead, California, where he attended Rosemead High School.
Mackie left Chouinard Art Institute early after he was hired to sketch for Frank Thompson at Paramount Studios. He spent part of the early 1960s working at the studio as an ****** istant designer under Ray Aghayan. He scored his first big break when Mitzi Gaynor hired him to create the costumes for her Las Vegas Revue. He continued to be a go-to collaborator for Gaynor over the years and raked in Emmys for his contributions to her 1976 and 1978 TV specials.
He became even more well-known in the Hollywood scene in the late 1960s and through the late 1970s for his work as the costume designer for "The Carol Burnett Show," which asked him to design upwards of 50 costumes a week. It was on the set of that iconic sketch variety series that Mackie met Cher. He went on to serve as the costume designer for "The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour" and continued to design pieces for the star in the decades that followed.

Sept. 14 (UPI) -- The planned West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George has been delayed to 2028.
Empire Street Productions announced Monday that the musical "will no longer proceed as scheduled" in 2027, with the company to "retain the rights with a view to presenting the production in 2028."
The news follows word that Wicked co-stars Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey have dropped out of the production. Grande announced in August that she "will be taking a step back from visibility" after the conclusion of her Eternal Sunshine tour, with Bailey later confirming he has "decided to also step back" from the revival.
Sunday in the Park with George features music and lyrics by famed composer Stephen Sondheim. The musical, inspired by the Georges Seurat painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, debuted on Broadway in 1984 and on West End in 2006.
Marianne Elliot was to direct the West End revival, which was originally scheduled to open at London's Barbican Centre in summer 2027.

The marquees for all 41 Broadway theatres will be dimmed in honor of Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, Clive Davis and more stars who've recently passed away.
On Wednesday, the Broadway In Memoriam Committee confirmed the list of late honorees. On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the marquees will dim at 6:45 p.m. ET. Gina Ferrall, Josh Grisetti, Jeff Hamlin, Glen Hansard, Louise Lasser, Anna Louizos, Seth Marquette, Anne Russell, James Walsh and Harold Wheeler will also be honored.
In 2025, the Broadway In Memoriam Committee created a quarterly tradition called Broadway in Memoriam to honor individuals who left their mark on the Great White Way. The mass dimming now takes place four times a year on the second Tuesday of September, December, March and June.
Parton wrote the music and lyrics for the 2009 stage adaptation of "9 to 5," which received four Tony Award nominations, including one for her original score. The singer's second show, "Dolly: A True Original Musical" will begin previews Dec. 7 at the St. James Theatre in New York City with an opening set for Jan. 19, 2027, on what would have been her 81st birthday. Parton announced the Broadway engagement in July.
The production will tell her story through some of her biggest hits, including "Jolene," "Coat of Many Colors," "9 to 5" and "I Will Always Love You," alongside new songs she wrote specifically for the musical. The Grammy-winning musician, son of Beatles rocker John Lennon and singer-songwriter Yoko Ono, revealed he welcomed his first child with partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl in a social media post Tuesday, Sept. 1.

The birth also marks the first grandchild for the late John Lennon, who was fatally shot in 1980. When Sophia Wootten was two years old, her parents were told that she might never speak clearly.
Wootten was born cleft-affected and with other craniofacial differences and started undergoing surgeries to correct those differences at just four months old. "[My parents were told] I might as well be put in a school for the deaf because that is where I would belong the best at that point," she tells PEOPLE.
At a young age, Wootten started speech therapy. Admittedly, she recalls being a "little bored" with the process. So her parents put her in voice lessons instead.
"Through it all, I fell in love with musical theater. I learned how to tell stories, but not necessarily my own," she says.

Payton Tolle is one of the best stories of the 2026 season. A thoughtful prospect writer brought him to my attention early last year, knowing my affinity for a good four-seamer, a thick 'stache and a mien that would be equally at home on a small fishing boat off the coast of Bangor in 1890 as he is on a pitching mound. Tolle wears his emotions openly across his face and through his body; the joy, the devastation, the playfulness. To be pitching at the level that he is requires skill and effort, but part of Tolle's charm is the authenticity woven within all that baseball work. Maybe this won't resonate to anyone else, but there are a lot of guys who present as baseball players first and humans as a secondary classification. Tolle is distinctly a human playing baseball, and it's one of the highest compliments I can pay (see also: Gutierrez, Franklin or Wilhelmsen, Tom, among others).
It came as little surprise, then, when Tolle cited the Turnpike Troubadors as one of his favorite musical acts. There's the Oklahoma connection, of course, with both hailing from the Sooner State, but that same authenticity runs through every song Turnpike performs. And that's courtesy of Evan Felker, the band's lead singer and one of the finest songwriters of the generation.
No one here needs to read any more about the Seattle Mariners today. Honestly, we're all probably good for the rest of the year on consumption of Mariners content, but regardless of their record this is still a community, and community means continuing showing up for one another. In gratitude for you all, I offer a selection of some of my favorite Turnpike Troubadors lyrics and songs. We're only around 20 minutes into breakfast at the West Village staple Morandi the first time Hoffman mentions his late father, the beloved actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. The restaurant has long been one of his family's favorite haunts, and the booth three spots over is where Hoffman recently celebrated his younger sister's high school graduation and acceptance to either Michigan State or the University of Michigan (Hoffman, laughing and shamefaced, keeps forgetting which). When the conversation turns to the New York Knicks' unbelievable playoff run, a decades-in-the-making miracle that Hoffman had to watch "drunk in bed" while in London attending a wedding, he invokes the memory of a man he lost just a month before his 11th birthday.

Michael Wright, the actor best known for playing Eddie King Jr. in Robert Townsend-directed musical drama The Five Heartbeats, has died after suffering heart failure. He was 70.
As TMZ reports, in addition to heart failure, Wright suffered complications of Marchiafava-Bignami, a rare brain condition.
His wife, Susan Wright, broke the news in an Instagram statement posted late Friday (August 21). "It is with profound sadness and an unimaginable heaviness in my heart that I share the passing of my beloved husband, Michael Wright," she began her post.

Tim Curry, the English actor best known for his star turn as Dr Frank-N-Furter in the cult classic musical film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," has died at the age of 80, US media reported Wednesday.
Curry, who had struggled with his health for more than a decade after a debilitating stroke, died at his home in Los Angeles, TMZ said, citing unnamed sources.
The actor, who launched his career in London's West End theater district, first played the gender-bending mad scientist in "Rocky Horror" before reprising the role in the 1975 film, which is still a staple of midnight cinema showings more than 50 years later.
His other credits include the sinister clown Pennywise in a 1990 television miniseries version of Stephen King's "It" and films that included "Charlie's Angels" and "Muppet Treasure Island."
An impressive theatrical resume that began in the 1960s saw him do turns at the Royal Court Theatre and the Citizens Theatre, taking on roles written by Shakespeare, Brecht and Tom Stoppard, among others.

Evans made his Broadway debut as cross-dressing mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter in "The Rocky Horror Show," for which he received a Tony Award nomination, earlier this year.
