After a long rehab from a torn Achilles tendon, Giants running back Najee Harris may finally return to game action tonight.
Harris is expected to play tonight against the Jets, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Harris was playing for the Chargers last season when he tore his Achilles tendon in Week Three, ending his season.
Before signing with the Chargers last season, Harris played four seasons for the Steelers, and ran for at least 1,000 yards in all four of them, while never missing a game. The Giants would love to see that version of Harris back on the field this season.

The Baltimore Ravens have completed nearly every offseason evaluation available to them. They have worked through training camp, two preseason games and three joint practices. One significant evaluation remains. Baltimore will host the Washington Commanders in Friday night's preseason finale before reducing its roster to 53 players by Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
The Ravens have established starters at most positions, but several important competitions remain unresolved. Some will determine starting jobs or game-day roles. Others could decide which players earn the final places on the roster.
Here are five Ravens position battles that remain unsettled.
Danny Pinter appeared to be the favorite at center until suffering a torn patellar tendon during Baltimore's joint practice with Minnesota. Pinter was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, officially ending his season. That leaves Pocic and Gwyn competing for the job between John Simpson and rookie right guard Vega Ioane. Pocic offers significantly more NFL starting experience, but he spent much of the offseason recovering from an Achilles injury. Gwyn has received valuable repetitions in practice but must demonstrate that he can consistently handle protection calls and meet the physical demands of the position.
Baltimore's unofficial depth chart lists Pocic and Gwyn as co-starters. Their work against Washington could provide the final evidence the coaching staff needs.

After the first matchday of Serie A, the talking points we've seen are the usual ones: refereeing decisions, the transfer market still being open, the post-match reactions where some vent by criticizing and others take little digs as a strategy.
The routine we waited for all summer, however, mustn't put us on autopilot, because something different happened: young Italians actually played. It seems unbelievable, but it's true: Mattia Liberali, Simone Lontani, Alessandro Romano (Swiss with dual citizenship), Emanuele Lulli, Alphadjo Cisse and Alessio Cacciamani took the field.
Some did so as starters, others came off the bench: for not all of them was it their absolute Serie A debut, but the wider public really discovered them just a few days ago. After an excellent pre-season with Milan and Ruben Amorim's imprimatur in a press conference, Alphadjo Cisse (without the accent, as he himself wanted to point out) made his debut at San Siro and scored the first Serie A goal of his career. He handled the ball well in traffic, pressed constantly and, above all, scored at the decisive moment.
During the summer he trained on his own in Montesilvano (Abruzzo) to get back into shape after tearing his adductor tendon, an injury that had cut short an excellent season with Aquilani's Catanzaro. Throughout July, Sassuolo and Torino wanted him on loan, but Amorim chose to keep him and throw him in. He is already repaying that faith.

Even for the Cleveland Browns, their quarterback situation is an unmitigated disaster.
Two days after he lambasted Browns fans for being "disrespectful" and booing him during their exhibition game, Deshaun Watson has been named the starting quarterback heading into the 2026 season.
The 30-year-old, who was accused of ****** ual misconduct and ****** ault by dozens of women during massage therapy sessions, then missed the 2025 season rehabbing a twice-torn right Achilles tendon, beat out Shedeur Sanders, who ended last season as the starter. Head coach Todd Monken had said on Sunday that Watson's comments wouldn't be a factor in the decision.
"I think the whole world knows it has nothing to do about the performance," Watson said on Saturday about the fan reaction. "It's a little bit [more] personal than that. So I think it's a disrespectful thing. So yeah, I mean, I'm going to keep whatever I feel with me and my family internally on how I feel about that. And yeah, just move on."
On Monday, Watson started his press conference with a two-minute statement apologizing to fans.

Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater returned to the practice field on Saturday.
Slater missed the entire 2025 season after suffering a torn patellar tendon during last summer's training camp. While he was initially cleared, a little flare-up in his surgically repaired left knee on August 4 forced the team to exercise caution.
After sitting out eight consecutive practices and missing the preseason matchup against the 49ers, Slater finally made his way back to action in a limited capacity. He participated in individual drills and the opening period of 11-on-11 team reps before moving aside to finish his day under the supervision of trainers.
Though Slater's workload is being heavily managed, there is plenty of reason for optimism regarding his return. Slater previously stated that his knee feels "strong and stable," adding that he appreciates the organization's "smart and thoughtful" approach to his long-term health.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh has indicated that he hopes to play his healthy starters for two full drives in the upcoming preseason game against the Rams on Thursday. Whether the coaching staff fields Slater or keeps him for the Week 1 opener against the Cardinals, his return signals that the offensive anchor is right on track.

As the left tackle competition with the Chicago Bears heats up between Braxton Jones, Theo Benedet, Kiran Amegadjie and Jedrick Wills, the Bears got some promising news about their starting left tackle from last season, Ozzy Trapilo.
Jones started last season as Chicago's left tackle before Trapilo eventually became the starter, replacing Benedet. In the Bears' playoff win against the Green Bay Packers, Trapilo tore his patellar tendon that was expected to sideline him for most of the 2026 season. But, that timeline has changed drastically when he was activated off the physically unable to perform list and back at practice. Quarterback Caleb Williams sounded off on Trapilo' to be back in practice and 's return and his quick recovery.
"Excited. Obviously, he played a lot for us last year being the left tackle for me, and so I'm excited for him, especially being able to recover, so fast with a pretty bad injury," Williams said. "So I'm excited for him, excited for us, and excited for him to get back on the field whenever that happens, whenever he's healthy and ready."
In Chicago's first preseason game, Amegadjie got most of the reps at left tackle. Jones did not play in the game at all while Wills some limited snaps. Those snaps did not help his case for the starting job while Amegadjie had a solid day. In the Bears' second preseason outing, it was Jones getting the start with Benedet and Amegadjie seeing action later.
It's unlikely that Trapilo will be ready for the season opener, so the left tackle competition is still important to determine who will start the season. However, whoever wins this job will probably play less time given Trapilo's progress in his recovery.

Deshaun Watson called the Cleveland Browns fans' reaction "disrespectful" after being booed during Cleveland's 31-7 NFL preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Watson entered after halftime and struggled, completing 5-of-12 passes for 36 yards and one interception. It was his first game at Huntington Bank Field since he tore his Achilles in October 2024 and re-ruptured the same Achilles tendon in January 2025.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson fired back at his detractors, calling the booing he heard from some Cleveland fans during Saturday's home preseason loss against Buffalo "disrespectful" and "personal."
Watson, who has a complicated relationship with Cleveland fans because of injuries, off-field issues — including an NFL suspension in 2022 — and a massive, $230 million contract, was booed repeatedly during the second half of a 31-7 loss to the Bills.
Watson was just 5 of 12 passing for 36 yards and threw an interception. He came off the bench because the Browns started Shedeur Sanders, who is competing with Watson for the starting job. Coach Todd Monken has yet to decide which QB will start the season opener in Jacksonville on Sept. 13.
Watson didn't appreciate the reaction from the sparse crowd at Huntington Bank Field. It was his first home game since tearing his Achilles tendon on Oct. 20, 2024, when fans cheered him sustaining a potential career-ending injury.

Former world number four Holger Rune, sidelined since October by an Achilles tendon injury, has withdrawn from the US Open, organizers said Friday.
The 23-year-old Dane hasn't played competitive tennis since he was hurt in the semi-finals at Stockholm last year.
There had been indications that he was nearing a return when photos surfaced on social media this week of him playing practice sets in Spain with Carlos Alcaraz.
Seven-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz has been sidelined himself since April with a wrist injury but posted on social media Thursday that he was "back" -- just in time for his ***** le defense at the final Grand Slam of the year which starts in New York on August 30.
Rune said in a post on X, captioning a photo with Alcaraz and others, that he was nearing a return.

Rafael Devers returned to Fenway Park on Friday for the first time since the Boston Red Sox traded him to the San Francisco Giants in June 2025.
Since Devers' relationship with the Red Sox, particularly with chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, didn't end particularly well, it could be reasonably ******* umed that fans might not greet the three-time All-Star warmly.
But he received a mixed reaction from the Fenway crowd with boos largely overpowering cheers during pregame introductions and when he took his first at-bat. Batting second in the Giants' lineup, Devers struck out looking on four pitches from Boston starter Sonny Gray.
Resentments understandably linger after Devers was traded largely because of the tension he created by refusing to move from third base to designated hitter when Boston signed Alex Bregman as a free agent. But with Bregman being a far superior defensive player, Devers eventually ceded and played at DH.
However, the possibility of switching positions came up again when first baseman Triston Casas ruptured his patellar tendon and the Red Sox needed someone to replace him at the position. Devers seemed a natural fit as a defensively challenged slugger. But he balked at being asked again to play another position during the season.

The Chicago Bears' ongoing battle at left tackle took an interesting turn ahead of Tuesday's practice, where head coach Ben Johnson announced that it would be Braxton Jones working with the first-team offense.
Jones suffered a minor knee injury during practice on Aug. 6, and he's making his return to team activities on Tuesday. With Jones sidelined, the Bears had been rotating Kiran Amegadjie and Jedrick Wills Jr. with the starters. Johnson said that both Amegadjie and Wills will get some looks at right tackle while Theo Benedet, who's practiced exclusively at right tackle, will finally see some action on the left side with the second-team offense Tuesday.
Another interesting development is the return of Ozzy Trapilo, who'd established himself as the starting left tackle before suffering a ruptured patellar tendon during the team's wild-card playoff win back in January. Trapilo, who was expected to miss most of the 2026 season, returned in record time just seven months after what some initially believed might be a career-altering injury.
There's no word on when Trapilo could return to practice in full and factor into the starting left tackle competition. According to Johnson, Trapilo "has his own timeline."
From what we've learned this summer, it appears to be Jones' job to lose. Before his injury, Jones had been receiving a bulk of first-team reps, and that's expected to continue with him back in action. When Trapilo is ready to compete for the starting role, that's when things should get interesting.

The person spoke to The **** ociated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the deal had not yet been announced. The 28-year-old worked out for the team on Monday.
Harris is coming off tearing his left Achilles tendon on a noncontact play in a game on Sept. 21 while with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Giants coach John Harbaugh said Harris is not 100% healthy and expected it to be a process to get him up and going if signed. As a result, it was not immediately clear how soon Harris would participate in training camp practices.

Dr. Nirav Pandya, professor of orthopedic surgery at UCSF, said the trauma Bosa's right knee has suffered means it will be "asking a lot" for the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year to flash his pre-injury form next month, or perhaps, this season….Before Bosa was sidelined, he told Sports Illustrated that last year's surgery had also addressed "chronic" quadriceps tendinitis that had developed from the first ACL repair on his right knee. Pandya noted it would be more problematic if Bosa's current tendinitis isn't related to his most recent ACL surgery, which Shanahan suggested it was.
"He's had quad tendinitis since he was in high school and it's been this lingering, ongoing problem," Pandya said. "The issue that you get worried about long-term tendinitis is that that can eventually lead to degeneration of a tendon. It's more ******* e to kind of have chronic issues or even tear."

The Minnesota Vikings had make an unfortunate move on Aug. 17 in placing former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams on season-ending injured reserve after he tore his right quadriceps tendon during the preseason game against the New York Giants the Saturday prior.
The ex-sixth overall pick, who spent the entirety of the 2025 season with the Las Vegas Raiders and started four games, was signed by the Vikings back in late July to help beef up an otherwise thin safety room that saw the departure of veteran Harrison Smith this past offseason.
But unfortunately Adams will have no role to play in the league this season, and has been replaced by former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bryce Phillips.

Baseball pitching great Tommy John died at his Florida home on Saturday night. He was 83.
Unfortunately for many, remembering his game takes a backseat to the fact that his name is commonly ***** ociated with one of the sport's most common surgeries.
The four-time MLB All-Star with a career ERA of just 3.34 was 31 in 1974 when he tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. Los Angeles Dodgers team physician Dr. Frank Jobe replaced the ligament with a tendon from the forearm in his non-pitching arm.
Long story short, he pitched for 14 more years and his name — is ***** ociated with the procedure — Tommy John surgery — now so widely ***** ociated with baseball that it churned up numbers like the ones Albuquerque Isotopes broadcaster and baseball journalist/historian Josh Suchon shared on his Substack page on Monday.
In the essay Suchon wrote — "When did people start calling it Tommy John surgery?" — he noted a rather interesting, albeit unplanned, tribute of sorts to John by the Isotopes in their game Sunday, the day his passing was announced.

The Vikings lost safety/linebacker Jamal Adams to a torn quad tendon during Saturday's preseason opener at the Giants. And even though the recently-signed Adams will not play this season, he'll be a big part of the team in 2026.
"Just from what he had meant to us in such a short amount of time, he's had such a great impact," Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters regarding the 10-year veteran. "I compliment [G.M.] Nolan [Teasley] for, you know, that was — Nolan was really excited about making that move, and just the dialogue between him and myself and [defensive coordinator Brian Flores], and then watching Flo, you know, put together the plan of attack for him and a real role that was kind of really coming together."
Teasley knew Adams from their time together in Seattle.
"He'll have that procedure to have that fixed, and then he's gonna be with us all season long," O'Connell said regarding Adams. "I think it's really important that Jamal knows, and I've talked . . . both to him and his family, about just his impact on this organization, his ability to help young players, his ability to be a real beacon of energy, and once, obviously, he's gonna be focused on getting healthy and getting the initial early stages of his rehab going, but we're gonna have him with us. You guys will see him around, see him out here, see him around the building. Because he's a Minnesota Viking now, and we want to make sure that he knows how important he'll be to our players and team."
It's unfortunate that Adams won't be able to play, but the team's willingness to embrace him will help fill the void created by a season that was lost before it even began.

Najee Harris may be going from one Harbaugh brother to the other.
Harris is visiting with the Giants on Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Harris, 28, suffered a torn Achilles tendon while playing for the Chargers under Jim Harbaugh in 2025. The former first-round pick was able to play just three games before his injury.
John Harbaugh also knows what it's like to go against Harris well, with the running back playing the Ravens twice a year from 2021-2024 while with the Steelers. Harris started all 17 games for Pittsburgh in each of his first four seasons, rushing for 1,000 yards every year.
In 2024, Harris registered 1,043 yards on 263 carries with six touchdowns. He also had 36 receptions for 283 yards.

The Chicago Bears got a big return to their roster this weekend as it was announced that the team has activated offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo from the physically unable to perform list, and he was spotted working during Sunday's practice.
Trapilo suffered a ruptured patellar tendon just seven months ago back in the team's Wild Card win over the Green Bay Packers in January, and is now back on the field just seven months later. Trapilo has not returned in a full capacity just yet, as he was captured on video returning to individual drills but has not yet returned to full team activities or drills.
The Bears will certainly take a cautious approach to getting Trapilo back on the field, as they ramp him back into action, but Sunday's return and activation off the PUP list is the first big step to getting him back on the field in a much sooner than expected time.
Chicago currently has a wide-open competition at the left tackle position, where they currently have veterans Braxton Jones, Kiran Amegadjie, and Jedrick Wills battling it out among them. Trapilo's return to the lineup will be an interesting wrench thrown into the competition, as he took over late last season, starting at left tackle in Week 12 of the 2025 season, and was a consistent presence on the offensive line until his energy.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle said he expects to come off the physically unable to perform list before the start of the season and remains hopeful that his surgically repaired Achilles tendon will be healthy enough for him to play in Week 1.
Kittle tore his right Achilles on Jan. 11 in a playoff win at Philadelphia and is hoping to be able to get back at practice in time to play Week 1 on Sept. 11 in Australia against the Los Angeles Rams.
"I have a chance," Kittle said Sunday. "We're running around a lot, hitting top speeds. Hopefully we're back in pads practicing sooner than later. Just trying to check the boxes and not be (dumb) is what I would say."
Kittle has made an impressive recovery over the past seven months and has been working out on the side at practice while he remains on the PUP list. Kittle said he expects to come off that list before rosters are cut to 53 players on Aug. 30 so he won't have to miss the first four games of the season.
The Niners are set to leave for Australia on Sept. 2 and Kittle said he wouldn't expect to make the long flight unless the team plans to play him against the Rams. The first step will be coming off the PUP list and practicing with his teammates.

Tommy John, who won 288 games over a 26-year MLB career died at the age of 83.
John played for six teams from 1963-89. He spent eight years with the Yankees, seven with the White Sox, and six with the Los Angeles Dodgers. John won 91 games as a Yankee, 87 for LA and 82 with the White Sox.
He is also known as the namesake of a pioneering surgery after suffering a torn UCL in 1974. The procedure where a tendon was taken from the wrist and placed in the elbow, gave John his career back and has become commonplace in saving pitchers from having their baseball runs end.

Before Indiana Pacers superstar Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles tendon in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals, the point guard was well on his way to becoming a household name. Sure, Haliburton had been well-known to basketball fans for years at that point, but an NBA championship ring would've pushed him into another realm of stardom.
Alas, it wasn't meant to be after Haliburton went down midway through the first quarter of Game 7, with the Oklahoma City Thunder cruising to victory in his absence.
Haliburton's injury coming at the latest possible moment of the season meant he would miss the Pacers' entire 2025-26 campaign rehabbing. Hali would raise his national profile a bit by contributing to Prime Video's NBA Nightcap throughout the season, but the Pacers guard was largely out of sight and out of mind as the team finished 19-63, the worst record in franchise history.
But with Haliburton poised to make his return this upcoming season, and the Pacers looking to right the ship, Indiana would seem to be an intriguing team headed into 2026-27. Alas, the NBA schedule makers didn't find them intriguing enough to put the team in a national television window for Haliburton's return. The Pacers will open the season against the New Orleans Pelicans on Oct. 21 and it will not be nationally televised.
That news didn't sit well with Haliburton, who shared his feelings on a recent episode of the Numbers on the Board podcast.

Tommy John Surgery — the revolutionary surgery named after the first person to receive it, MLB pitcher Tommy John, who died Sunday at the age of 83 — has saved thousands of pitchers' careers over the past five decades.
The groundbreaking procedure was developed in 1974, when John was pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers and tore the ulnar collateral ligament on the inside of his left elbow.
Dr. Frank Jobe, the Dodgers' team physician, performed the four-hour UCL reconstruction surgery on Sept. 25, 1974, forcing John to miss the entire 1975 season.
The surgery entailed replacing the UCL with a tendon from elsewhere in the body. In that case, Jobe took a tendon from John's right wrist, drilled holes in John's injured elbow, and wove the tendon through the holes.
At the time, Jobe estimated one-in-100 odds of John's return to pitching in the Major Leagues, according to MLB.com.

This is a significant blow to the Volunteers' secondary, especially for a defense that was looking to take another step this fall.

Tennessee Volunteers safety Edrees Farooq is expected to miss the 2026 college football season with a torn patellar tendon in his right knee. He was hurt during Friday's practice on Aug. 14. He was carted off the field and taken by ambulance to UT Medical Center for further evaluation.
Tennessee spokesperson Bill Martin told local media that Farooq suffered a lower-body injury. Reporters at practice said the ambulance arrived with its lights on. Farooq was seen sitting up on the cart as he was loaded in. Tennessee continued its seventh preseason practice while it happened.
The 6-foot, 202-pound junior started all 13 games last season. He made 76 tackles, which tied for third on the team. He added two interceptions, three pass breakups and four forced fumbles. Those four forced fumbles tied for second in the SEC and tied for sixth in the FBS.
