Chicago Bears offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo has stunned NFL fans with his return from a serious knee injury.
The Bears activated Trapilo from the Physically Unable to Perform list on August 16. The move allows the second-year tackle to begin practicing after rupturing his patellar tendon only seven months ago.
Trapilo suffered the injury during Chicago's playoff win over the Green Bay Packers in January. The injury initially appeared likely to end his 2026 season before it even began.
Instead, Trapilo has returned to the practice field2026 during training camp.

The Chicago Bears got a big return to their roster this weekend as it was announced that the team has activated offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo from the physically unable to perform list, and he was spotted working during Sunday's practice.
Trapilo suffered a ruptured patellar tendon just seven months ago back in the team's Wild Card win over the Green Bay Packers in January, and is now back on the field just seven months later. Trapilo has not returned in a full capacity just yet, as he was captured on video returning to individual drills but has not yet returned to full team activities or drills.
The Bears will certainly take a cautious approach to getting Trapilo back on the field, as they ramp him back into action, but Sunday's return and activation off the PUP list is the first big step to getting him back on the field in a much sooner than expected time.
Chicago currently has a wide-open competition at the left tackle position, where they currently have veterans Braxton Jones, Kiran Amegadjie, and Jedrick Wills battling it out among them. Trapilo's return to the lineup will be an interesting wrench thrown into the competition, as he took over late last season, starting at left tackle in Week 12 of the 2025 season, and was a consistent presence on the offensive line until his energy.

The Chicago Bears opened training camp today, and with everyone reporting to Halas Hall, they made two more roster moves by placing defensive end Montez Sweat on the Active/Non-Football Illness list and safety Elijah Hicks on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.
Sweat joins linebacker T.J. Edwards on the NFI list, and much like T.J., Sweat's stay isn't expected to be long. Earlier today, general manager Ryan Poles said Edwards injured his calf during offseason training and is expected back soon, calling it "nothing major." Sweat's illness is expected to keep him away for a few days.
Hicks reported some shin discomfort when reporting, so his start to camp will be delayed a bit. He joins nickelback Kyler Gordon, linebackers Keyshaun Elliott and Noah Sewell, offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo, and defensive lineman Shemar Turner on the PUP list.
Poles said Gordon spent the entire offseason at Halas Hall to make sure he was ready, but there has been a "delay" in his recovery. This latest issue is with this calf, and there is no timetable to return.

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the start of training camp, where second-year head coach Ben Johnson will look to prepare his team for the 2026 season. Chicago is coming off an impressive 11-6 season, where they won the NFC North and their first playoff game since 2010. Now, expectations are higher than ever.
When the Bears hit the practice field at Halas Hall later this month, there will be no shortage of storylines to keep an eye on, including some notable position battles. There are two starting spots up for grabs along the offensive line, as well as cornerback and special teams, on top of depth and roster spots elsewhere.
While Chicago was already hard at work during the offseason program, the real test starts in training camp, especially when the pads come on in August. With that in mind, here are the top position battles to watch this summer.
For the second consecutive summer, the Bears will have a battle for the starting left tackle job. With Ozzy Trapilo expected to miss most of the 2026 season after rupturing his patellar tendon in the wild-card playoffs, Chicago is searching for a new starter. They brought back veteran Braxton Jones on a one-year deal to compete with returning veteran Theo Benedet, who replaced Jones last season at one point, and former first-round pick and free-agent addition Jedrick Wills Jr. Jones is the presumed frontrunner given his experienced as a three-year starter before returning from injury last season, which hampered his production. ****** uming Jones is healthy, this is his job to lose along an offensive line that's considered one of the best in the league.
At one point, center was considered a strength for the Bears with Pro Bowler Drew Dalman in place. But following Dalman's shocking retirement, the Bears were forced to pivot and find a suitable replacement. Chicago traded a fifth-round pick to the New England Patriots for veteran Garrett Bradbury, who's spent most of his career in the NFC North, for a one-year rental. The Bears doubled down with the selection of rookie Logan Jones in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and he's expected to be the long-term answer. Ben Johnson made it clear that Jones will have an opportunity to compete for the starting job as a rookie, but Bradbury currently has the advantage given his experience.

The Chicago Bears will enter the 2026 season with a little more uncertainty on the offensive line than they may have originally thought.
Following the surprising retirement of Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman in March, the Bears looked to retool up front by drafting Iowa center Logan Jones, while also trading for New England Patriots center Garrett Bradbury.
Bradbury looks to be a possible short term answer, with Jones the center of the future if all goes to plan. The team also signed undrafted free agent center Jaren ***** p out of Utah.
The left tackle position also remains somewhat of a question after Ozzy Trapilo suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in the Bears’ Wild Card round victory over the Green Bay Packers. Trapilo had come on at the end of 2025 as a possible long term answer at the position. He is not expected to be available until late in the 2026 season, if at all.
Luckily for the Bears, they have veteran LT Braxton Jones available to step in at that position for now.
