Third baseman Carlos Correa was cleared Tuesday to take a significant next step in his attempt to return to the Houston Astros this year from ankle surgery.
Correa, who had surgery in early May for a torn peroneus brevis tendon, had a doctor's appointment Tuesday at which he was cleared to increase his baseball activities. The plan is for Correa to report to the Astros' minor-league facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., this weekend to begin that ramp-up.
"From the moment I had the surgery, my plan has always been to try to get back and play this year," Correa said Tuesday. "So now that we're going to ramp up for real and see how the foot's going to respond, this will be a real test for us to see if we can come back and play."
Correa has increased his activity over the past month while rehabbing in Houston. He is hitting against a pitching machine, taking ground **** and sprinting at "95%" at this point, he said.
Correa has not run bases or faced live pitching, two significant hurdles that would be part of his program in Florida. He will not be playing in games there immediately, as there are still boxes he must check.

On August 4, Archer-Daniels-Midland (NYSE:ADM) executives told investors on an earnings call that the company would expand capacity at four US oilseed-crushing plants, a roughly $100 million push into a business that just posted its strongest quarter in years. The plants sit in Frankfort, Indiana; Deerfield, Missouri; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Spiritwood, North Dakota, the last a joint venture with Marathon Petroleum. Together, the upgrades are expected to add about 700,000 metric tons of crush capacity by 2028 or 2029, and six more sites have already been flagged for possible future growth.
CEO Juan Luciano framed the projects as a cheap way to add output, estimating the cost at roughly a quarter of what a brand-new facility would require. That math matters because ADM just reported second-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $1.84, well above the $1.44 ***** ysts expected, and raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to a range of $5.15 to $5.60 from a prior $4.15 to $4.70. Operating profit in the ag services and oilseeds segment, ADM's largest, jumped 129% year over year to $867 million, with the crushing subsegment alone up $330 million as oilseed volumes climbed about 5%.
The company has now identified 10 US soy processing plants for potential expansion in total, and Luciano said top buyer China appears on track to meet its commitment to purchase 25 million metric tons of US soybeans this year. Nutrition, long a laggard, also grew 51% to $172 million on strength in flavors. Even so, Luciano described the crushing expansion as a "phased approach to allow for offramps," language that suggests management wants room to pull back if the current environment does not hold. The projects are expected to fit inside ADM's existing 2026 capital expenditure range of $1.3 billion to $1.5 billion, following expansions at two Brazilian plants last year and an extension completed this year in Uberlandia.
The strength behind these numbers leans heavily on conditions ADM does not control. Finalized 2026 and 2027 renewable volume obligations under the US Renewable Fuel Standard, locked in only this past March, are doing much of the work behind crushing margins, alongside energy prices that climbed after the Iran war. Roughly $100 million of the ag services and oilseeds profit came from net positive mark-to-market and timing impacts, gains tied to commodity pricing swings rather than the underlying business.
Not every part of the portfolio moved in the same direction. The refined products and other subsegment posted a 3% profit decline on negative mark-to-market impacts and supply and demand imbalances in South America, and equity earnings from ADM's stake in Wilmar fell 22%. Those soft spots, paired with a crush expansion built with explicit offramps, hint that management sees more uncertainty in the setup than the headline guidance raise suggests.

There were tears in Novak Djokovic's eyes as he held serve late in the fifth set of his Sunday US Open first match. Hypothetically, four years ago, this would be the point where the Serb would bring out his ***** nal, lock down, and withstand his opponent.
The tears, however, suggested that Djokovic's body had betrayed him.
As the Serb fell 7-6 (5) 5-7 4-6 6-2 6-1 to Mariano Navone in his first Grand Slam first-round loss since 2006, he now faces a crossroads in one of the final chapters of his career. The 24-time Grand Slam champion is 39, after all, and will slip outside the Top 10 of the rankings.
Sunday night conditions seemed to give Djokovic a break from the demanding, hot New York sun. But Djokovic felt sick less than one hour into the match, letting a 3-0 lead slip, and dealing with nausea. He threw up in the third set and cramped in the fourth and fifth sets, unable to hit serves at full pace.
Four hours and 36 minutes took everything out of Djokovic's body and mentality. There were some flashy winners early on in the match, but Djokovic wrapped the match up with 70 unforced errors.

We're not in August anymore, but we're still in the midwest in early September for Notre Dame's season opener against the Wisconsin Badgers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Forty-seven weeks after suffering his second torn ACL in as many seasons, the senior from Lawrenceburg, Ind. is listed atop the depth chart for Sunday night's Sept. 6 opener against unranked Wisconsin at Lambeau Field.
"He has a lot of experience," Irish coach Marcus Freeman said Monday Aug. 31 at his weekly news conference. "There's a calmness that he brings because of his experience. He's a really, really good football player and he's really progressed throughout camp with his workload and has gotten himself to a place where he's ready to go."
Barring any setbacks during practice this week, Sunday's start would be the 13th of Craig's college career, dating to the last three games of 2023.
He was knocked out for the season in Week 3 at Purdue in 2024 (left ACL) but returned for the season-opening loss at Miami in 2025.

There was no shortage of drama during Térence Atmane and Jaume Munar's tense first-round battle at the 2026 US Open. The closely contested match saw Munar venting his frustrations before Atmane was left incredulous after being denied treatment by the physiotherapist and supervisor despite his struggles.
Atmane made a strong start to his clash against Munar, clinching the first two sets to take a 7-6(5), 6-3 lead and move just one set away from victory. However, the Frenchman began to struggle in the third set, with his movement compromised as he appeared to be dealing with severe cramps.
While serving at 1-0, 40-40 in the third set, Atmane called for the physiotherapist and received treatment on his right leg. He went on to lose the set after resorting to serving with his right hand due to cramping in his dominant hand. The Frenchman then took a bathroom break before the fourth set.
The drama escalated in the fourth set when Munar halted play in the first game and asked the chair umpire to call the supervisor. The Spaniard voiced his frustration over Atmane's constant conversations with his coach and the delay between his serves, arguing that the umpire should issue time violations.
"Call the supervisor. Three times it happened. It's point, game over, 1-0, we switch and we play. I don't care about what's happening. It's rules. They're talking. It happened two times this game. I just asked you the question because of that," Munar said.

There was a very familiar face back at practice on Sunday, and we're not talking about Puka Nacua. Aaron Donald, who announced his return to the NFL before final roster cuts, was on the practice field for the first time since retiring after the 2023 season.
The Rams are working him back into the picture along the defensive line with less than two weeks to go until the season opener. For a guy who's always stayed in shape, it seemingly shouldn't take too long for him to be game-ready, but Sean McVay isn't going to put any timelines on things.
He told reporters after practice on Sunday that the team is going to take it one day at a time with Donald, ramping things up as the season approaches. So will he play in Week 1 against the 49ers? That's to be determined, McVay suggests.
"Good to be able to get Aaron back into the mix," McVay said. "You guys know how close we are and there's been a lot of dialogue that we've had and excited to be able to just take it a day at a time. I'm not going to talk about any sort of plans. It's going to be a day at a time for us. What does that mean for Australia? The first step was, all right, if you're coming back, let's do that, let's get you on the practice field, let's get you acclimated to your teammates, to your coaches, and then we'll see what that ramp-up period looks like, whether or not he's available or whether or not we think it's best to be able to play him in Australia. I think the best way to do it is to take it one day at a time, but we're obviously excited to be able to have him back."
On Sunday, Donald went through individual drills with the defensive linemen before heading back to the locker room, Gary Klein of the LA Times reports. That's not surprising with this being his first practice back.

Florida State opened the 2026 season with a victory Saturday night, but its 34-17 win over New Mexico State offered a mixture of encouraging developments and areas that will need improvement before the competition ramps up.

California's "monumental problem" with rampant fraud is about to get significantly worse, according to Republican state ******* emblyman Carl DeMaio, after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill that he warns will crack down on people investigating scammers.
Officially ******* led "Privacy for immigration support services providers," the new law creates privacy protections for immigration support service providers, employees and volunteers, including shielding their addresses and imposing penalties on those who publish their images on social media. DeMaio told Fox News Digital the bill amounts to criminalizing investigative journalism and works to "silence citizen journalists and shield taxpayer-funded organizations from public scrutiny."
"What does the Stop Nick Shirley Act do? It basically makes it illegal for a citizen journalist to document fraud of taxpayer money and post that on the internet in the form of an internet video," he said.
Newsom signed the bill into law last week, and it is set to take effect Oct. 1. DeMaio told Fox News Digital that he and a "coalition of civil liberty protectors" are prepared to file a lawsuit challenging the law.

Ever since the great Claude Rains first uttered the immortal line "Round up the usual suspects!" in Casablanca, the phrase has been ingrained in the popular lexicon — so much so that it inspired the ****** le of an entirely different movie nearly 50 years later. The unlikely redemption arcs from players most ****** umed were out of the team's plans, or at least on the very fringes, were welcome developments for a team that learned this week that their talisman, Kenan Yildiz, would miss two to three months once he undergoes surgery on a broken metatarsal. After a first half that seemed to be crying out for his creativity, it was the transfer-listed González who gave the Bianconeri the necessary spark to take Parma down 2-0 as they began to look forward to next week's big match against AC Milan.
Apart from Yildiz, Luciano Spalletti was also missing Weston McKennie (muscle fatigue), Edon Zhegrova, and Khéphren Thuram, who suffered a setback in his knee recovery and could now require surgery. Jeff Ekhator came back to make his first Juve squad in a competitive game. Spalletti's 4-2-3-1 was therefore shuffled a bit. Guglielmo Vicario started in goal after getting over the cramp that forced him off late against Frosinone. Sascha Britschgi and Mandela Keita bookended Christian Ordóñez and Adrían Bernabé in midfield. El Bilal Touré and Simone Lontani started up front. Drobnic and Lontani were both teenagers, and the former was making his debut.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without Shohei Ohtani in the rotation for a while now, and just as he was supposed to return, he has suffered a setback.
Following a 20-pitch bullpen session on Friday, Ohtani reportedly was not "100 percent," per The Athletic's Katie Woo. The Dodgers decided that he would not pitch on Sunday or Tuesday. Ohtani has been dealing with a knee issue that caused him to get an orthovisc injection. He is also dealing with a biceps issue.
Roberts noted that if any pitcher was feeling the way Ohtani was, the team would not let them pitch. However, unlike a normal pitcher, Ohtani can't go on a rehab **** ignment and is a major piece of the Dodgers offense. Ohtani was planning to build up in big league games, but Roberts noted that if he is not 100 percent, it may not be worth pushing him.
"In the sense of coming out of (the bullpen), you're a couple days away from taking the mound again, and you don't feel you know 100 percent," Roberts said. "So it's to ask the question, if you're not 100 percent going into now ramping up in a major-league game, is it worth it?"

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — If you came into this weekend not knowing who A'mir Sears was on an unranked Columbus (FL) team that was supposed to lose to nationally-ranked No. 2 Bishop Gorman (NV), well, you do now.
Sears had his coming out party on national television, catching five passes for 67 yards with a pair of scores, along with three interceptions defense as the Explorers stunned the second-ranked Gaels, 33-28.
"It's not just a ***** le," Sears said. "I'm the No. 1 player in the country."
Sears made that case emphatically, even as Bishop Gorman quarterback Ace Amina tried to test him repeatedly.

On August 13, dLocal (NASDAQ:DLO) reported second-quarter results that were hard to poke holes in. Total payment volume hit $17.7 billion, up 92% year over year, its best pace in more than four years. Revenue climbed 56% to $399.7 million, and gross profit reached a record $127.2 million. For a company whose whole business is moving money faster and cheaper across emerging markets, this was about as strong a quarter as it gets.
Behind the headline number is a business that keeps getting stickier with the merchants it already has. Net revenue retention landed at 153%, the fifth straight quarter above 140%, and TPV retention hit 188%, meaning existing clients are adding countries, payment methods, and products rather than just processing more of the same volume. CEO Pedro Arnt called it "the highest growth rate since the first quarter of 2022."
Brazil and Argentina did the heavy lifting on profitability, with gross profit hitting records of $40 million and $20 million, powered by ride-hailing, travel and e-commerce merchants ramping up. Local-to-local transactions, where money moves within a single country rather than across borders, climbed to 61% of volume, up 6 percentage points from the first quarter, as ride-hailing and on-demand delivery merchants scaled fast.
dLocal is also pushing beyond core processing. Buy now, pay later is now live in eight markets, and the company plans to launch dMore, a merchant of record service that takes on the legal and tax headaches of entering new countries. It's also landing new categories of customers, including artificial intelligence companies and digital **** et exchanges, on top of a base that already includes four of the largest ride-hailing companies in the world.
Not every market moved in the same direction. Mexico's revenue grew 64% year over year, but sequential gross profit slipped as pricing tiers on large merchants matured and dLocal struggled to bring local processing costs down as a share of volume. CFO Guillermo Perez flagged that the company expects upward pressure on its effective tax rate starting in 2027 as countries adopt the OECD's Pillar 2 minimum tax framework, though he said it's too early to size the impact.

Tonight's White Sox starter, Luis Castillo, was pretty darn good until he wasn't. From 2019-2025, an ERA of 3.48 and a bWAR of 21.7. This year, something's gone off, I dunno what it is; his fastball's ticked down a notch or two, maybe that's it. Happens to all of us eventually. He throws it at around 95 now, with a slider/sinker/change. The slider's effective when it's working.
If you're like me, you think "wait, didn't Luis Castillo play for the Twins for awhile?" Yes, he did — that was a DIFFERENT Luis Castillo. The Twins one was a middle infielder and former All-Star/Gold Glover who was with the Twins in 2006/part of 2007. Mid-2007, the Twins traded him to the Metropolitans for Sweet Drew Butera. That experience was so groovy, the Twins later traded Johan Santana to the Mets for gold, frankincense, and myrrh. I don't know what myrrh is and neither do you. Here is the Twins' Luis Castillo:
So, we went to our first Twins game in a few years last week. It was four of us – Mrs. James had been given four free tickets by a season-ticket holder who was gonna be out of town (taking a kid to college). We asked two semi-retired friends if they wanted to come, and they said "sure."
One of those friends has trouble walking long distances, as Mrs. James does. So I asked here if anyone had some suggestions for a parking ramp that was convenient for people with mobility challenges. gintzer provided helpful information, and the parking situation worked out well, ***** ody had to walk too far. After the game, we got in the wrong exit line, and were stuck there for awhile. But, not the end of the world. Our car can go into electric mode for situations like that, so we weren't burning gas. The Baltimore Ravens are just one game away from real football. Tonight at 6 p.m. ET, they will take on the Washington Commanders in their preseason finale with 53-man roster cuts due just 48 hours later. Here are the team's biggest remaining questions heading into today's game:
A season-ending injury to Danny Pinter turned the Ravens' starting center competition into a two-man race between Jovaughn Gwyn and Ethan Pocic. The former has been praised for his athleticism, while the latter brings experience and leadership that could be valuable in a new offensive scheme.
The battle is neck-and-neck. The division of reps tonight will be a key marker, as Pocic's ramp-up from last season's Achilles tear has limited his time with his potential fellow starters. If Gwyn still gets all of the first-team snaps, he likely has the job sewn up. But the Ravens could mix Pocic in with the first team, indicating the competition is still undecided, or even start him outright, suggesting he has surged ahead.
The Ravens historically retain at least one undrafted rookie on their 53-man roster. Last year, they kept three. But with two of those players returning and plenty of depth across the squad, there may not be room this time around. SAP (NYSE:SAP) faces a slower path to monetizing artificial intelligence, according to UBS, which downgraded the German software giant to Neutral from Buy on concerns that agentic AI is reaching customers too slowly.
The Swiss bank said SAP remains a dominant system of record with a deep moat around its core enterprise resource planning business, but the pace of "out-of-the-box" AI agent delivery is lagging. SAP has rolled out just 17 such agents to date, with another 15 in ramp-up, leaving its target of 200 by year-end looking difficult to reach, UBS **** ysts wrote.
The complexity of SAP's largest customers, many running multiple ERP instances across different versions and often on private cloud deployments with custom coding, complicates the company's ability to deliver standardized AI tools, according to the note. UBS said it is hearing positive signals on customers building their own agents through Joule Studio, but adoption remains gradual, making it hard to disprove bearish views on SAP's AI relevance in the near term.
