The Kansas City Chiefs were unsuccessful in trying to end their preseason losing streak with Saturday's 20-12 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The loss raised concerns, as head coach Andy Reid told reporters that an offensive lineman went down with an injury during the game.
"As far as injuries go, it was just Chu Godrick had an ankle sprain," said Reid, "So, other than that, there were no other injuries."
The reserve offensive lineman left the game with the injury as the Chiefs were unable to overcome the Rams at Arrowhead Stadium. Godrick, a product of the NFL's International Player Pathway program since 2022, signed with the Chiefs as part of their developmental plans. He spent the next few years on the practice squad before being called up to the active roster last season.
"It was good to get a preseason game under our belt and play against somebody else. There were some good things, and some things we need to clean up," said Reid. "Obviously, penalties would be the number one thing we need to clean up. But we're able to get a good look at some of our young guys, and I thought there was some real production there on both sides of the ball from the young guys."
Another concern for both teams was the weather, as extremely hot temperatures opened the door to potential cramping and dehydration issues. Both were avoided, as Reid detailed the planning to prepare for extreme temperatures over 90 degrees on the field.

Miami junior running back Jordan Lyle was arrested on Thursday on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement, according to court records in Broward County, Florida.
The aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement are each felony complaints. Lyle also faces a misdemeanor complaint of reckless driving.
"We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle," a University of Miami spokesperson said in a statement on Friday, via the Miami Herald. "As due legal process runs its course, we will have no further comment at this time."
Lyle, 20, was booked into the Broward Main Jail of the Sheriff's Office on an arrest warrant from the Sunrise Police Department and was released later in the day. The charges against Lyle carry a combined $55,000 bond.
Last season as a sophomore, Lyle rushed for 108 yards and 1 touchdown on 35 carries. He was limited to six games due to a high ankle sprain suffered in the Hurricanes' season-opening 27-24 win over Notre Dame. As a freshman, Lyle compiled 400 rushing yards on 54 carries with 4 TDs.

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua provided an early scare on Tuesday, leaving joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys alongside head athletic trainer Reggie Scott. The star wideout did not return to finish the day's session and head coach Sean McVay wasn't sure what happened.
While any early exit for a franchise cornerstone brings a certain level of anxiety, veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford doesn't appear to be hitting the panic ****** on just yet. Speaking to reporters after practice, Stafford projected a calm, business-as-usual attitude regarding his top target's departure.
"I did not [see what happened]," Stafford said when asked about Nacua's exit. "I'm not really sure what the issue was, but ****** ody ran up to me in a panic, so I don't think it was anything too major."
Stafford's laid-back reaction is a welcome sign for a fan base that holds its breath whenever Nacua steps off the field. The 25-year-old receiver has developed a reputation for his relentless, physical playing style, but that same trait has occasionally sidelined him. After avoiding injury during his record-breaking 2023 rookie campaign, Nacua dealt with a right knee PCL sprain in 2024 and missed a game due to an ankle sprain in 2025.
Despite the occasional ****** p in the road, Nacua's production has been nothing short of historic. He is coming off a staggering 2025 campaign where he led the entire NFL with 129 receptions, racking up 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns. WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — When starting slot cornerback Dru Phillips left practice early on Wednesday after getting tangled up with wide receiver Xavier Gipson, head coach John Harbaugh was hopeful Phillips would be able to return to practice on Thursday.
That wasn't the case. Phillips sat out practice on Thursday with what Harbaugh called "a mild knee sprain."
"He came out of it pretty well," Harbaugh said. "It's going to be a little bit. He won't be back tomorrow. But the good news is he's going to be okay."
Phillips' knee sprain is, thus far, the most significant injury the Giants have suffered during training camp.
Phillips, a 2024 third-round pick, has played in 31 games over two seasons with the Giants as the team's primary nickel cornerback.

The Giants will be missing a member of their secondary for a little while.
Cornerback Dru Phillips did not practice on Thursday and head coach John Harbaugh said, via Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, that Phillips will miss more time as a result of a knee sprain. The Giants play their first preseason game against the Vikings on August 15.

On Thursday, August 6, the Good Will Hunting actress, 56, took to Instagram with a message for fans after the scary crash.
"Hi, guys. Paris update is that I'm actually back in London," Driver began the clip, while lying on her side on a bed with a neck brace and cuddling her dog. "I got into a really bad car accident a few days ago with my friend, Ben. And we somehow walked out of it. Well, we didn't walk out of it; we crawled out of it. But we did get out of it alive."
She continued, "To be very clear, it was not our fault. We were driving on a country road in the middle of France, and a car didn't stop at an intersection and was going at speed. And we just T-boned it."
Of her injuries, Driver said she has a sprained neck and is "sort of in shock and crying all the time." She added, "But I'm going to heal. And the reason I'm not dead, honestly, is the car that we were driving."

Baker Mayfield's contract situation continues to generate national discussion as training camp gets underway, with one ESPN ******* yst questioning why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven't finalized an extension.
During First Take, former NFL quarterback Jordan Rodgers argued that the Buccaneers should have already committed to Mayfield after what he's accomplished since arriving in Tampa Bay.
"It's insane that Tampa will not invest three years, at 50 some-odd million, in a quarterback that is a franchise quarterback... especially when the guy went out and played hurt last year."
Rodgers added that he understands why Mayfield could feel slighted by the lack of a new deal.
The comments come after it was revealed that Mayfield played through multiple injuries during the 2025 season, including sprained MCL and PCL ligaments in his knee, a severe biceps contusion, and a shoulder injury. Despite those ailments, he remained on the field and helped keep the Buccaneers in the NFC South race while once again leading the offense.

After Chaos faceoff specialist Justin Inacio suffered a right knee sprain in Carolina's 13–12 overtime win over the Boston Cannons and was ruled out for the team's doubleheader in Columbus, general manager Spencer Ford chose not to sign another faceoff specialist to replace him.
Ahead of Friday night's matchup with the California Redwoods — who boast one of the PLL's top faceoff men in TD Ierlan — he explained why.
"There could be guys who could come in and possibly win, but there is not one person who can come and be the whole package for us," Ford said. "Could they get us 40%? Could they be great in the pick game when TD is working to get a switch for [Chris Kavanagh]? Can they stop TD from going forward? He has hurt us at that and usually scores a big goal. The 2026 Carolina Panthers may just be snakebitten. Any lingering question about that was answered emphatically on Wednesday morning, when the team suffered their third injury in just their fifth day of training camp.
Last week, it was second-year outside linebacker Nic Scourton who went down with a season-ending ACL tear, followed by tight end Mitchell Evans getting carted off with an ankle sprain on Tuesday. And yesterday, it was rookie wide receiver Chris Brazzell II, who was wheeled away with a moderate LCL tear.
Scourton is the biggest loss in the bunch—for now, at least—and his absence represents a devastating blow to a defense that could have taken a big step forward this season. With their rising star out, Carolina's pass rush has been ranked 31st in the NFL by CBS Sports.

In his NFL career, Texans defensive end Will Anderson has only missed games due to injuries twice: In 2023, when he suffered a high-ankle sprain against the Jets on the turf at MetLife Stadium, and in 2024, when he suffered another high-ankle sprain against the Jets on the turf at MetLife Stadium. He doesn't think that's a coincidence.
Asked about the use of real grass in the World Cup, both at MetLife and at the Texans' NRG Stadium, Anderson said it's the superior playing surface.
"Yes, most definitely. I would most definitely say grass. Grass 100 percent," Anderson said. "I think it's just the natural feel of grass, your feet not getting stuck in the ground like in turf. I had two high ankle sprains up in MetLife because of the turf. I think grass is just a better option."
Still, Anderson said he hasn't talked to the Texans about using a grass field in Houston for NFL games.
"Not really. At the end of the day, it's up to them. They'll figure it out. You just control what you can control. Go out there and play and do your job," Anderson said.

Kurtz was batting in the first inning with a 3-2 count when he was struck on the left forearm by a 95 mph sinker thrown by Red Sox starter Patrick Sandoval.
Kurtz had just come off the injured list on Saturday after being out with a right thumb sprain.
Kurtz is batting .260, leads the A's with 21 home runs and is third in the majors with 77 walks.

Well this is a peculiar first move for trade deadline season. Jake Rogers, the longest tenured Detroit Tigers player, has been designated for ***** ignment. Eduardo Valencia was recalled on Sunday and will be taking over the backup catcher duties. Rogers' roster spot will go to Javier Báez, who returns from a three-month absence after suffering a high ankle sprain at the end of April.
The 31-year-old Rogers made his major league debut with the Tigers back on July 30, 2019 after coming to the Tigers in the trade that sent Justin Verlander to the Houston Astros in August of 2017. He finally became the Tigers primary catcher in 2021 before tearing his UCL and requiring reconstruction surgery that cost him all of the 2022 season. In 2023 and 2024 Rogers put together good seasons based around his defensive ability, plate discipline, and the occasional burst of home run power. He was worth 4.7 fWAR across those two years, but since that point his offensive contributions collapsed as Dillon Dingler took over the everyday catching role. This season, Rogers' defense finally showed real signs of cracking as well. He's hitting .161/.266/.301 for a 60 wRC+ which ranks him 48th out of 59 catchers with 100 plate appearances or more this season.
Despite his struggles, two part-time White Sox catchers, and numerous others, are even worse offensive players than Rogers. It won't be a surprise if he gets claimed, but it's too bad no one would flip a lottery ticket prospect to acquire him. The problem is that Rogers defensive numbers have declined this year and he's finally grading out a little below average as a defender. Whether that's partly the result of lack of playing time is hard to say, but hopefully he'll be claimed somewhere. If he clears waivers and is outrighted the Tigers will still be on the hook for the rest of his $3.05M salary for 2026.
Valencia is far and away a better hitter than Rogers, so that should provide a little support to the offense. On the other hand, Valencia isn't that good behind the plate, particularly in terms of holding opponents' running game in check. Still with Rogers defensive numbers in decline, perhaps Valencia won't do worse.
Getting Báez back could be pretty helpful to the Tigers although it's just funny to look at Báez as a way to trim strikeouts in the lineup by taking over some of the workload from James Outman. It will be interesting to see how he's deployed. With Kerry Carpenter out with a foot injury, the outfield needs help. It needed help anyway. We'll see if Báez is back to full speed and can get back to playing a solid enough center field. If he's back to 100 percent, that also gives the Tigers options, with Báez getting some time at shortstop and around the infield to get another right-handed bat into the lineup. Either way, it's good to have Javy Báez back, and hopefully further support for the outfield isn't too far away as Max Clark will be available to be called up without spoiling his 2027 rookie eligibi

According to MLB.com's Jason Beck, infielder/outfielder Javier Baez will return from the injured list and play center field.
Baez missed several weeks with a right ankle sprain. He takes the roster spot of catcher Jake Rogers, who was designated for ***** ignment by the Tigers on Tuesday, per a team announcement.

"I'm anticipating him being available to us today in the big leagues," manager AJ Hinch said on his weekly segment on MLB Radio.
Báez, 33, hasn't played since severely spraining his ankle ducking and half-sliding trying to avoid a tag at first base in the Tigers' 5-2 loss at Atlanta on April 28.
"I don't know how I didn't break it," Báez said that night after preliminary imaging showed no fracture.
But it was a high-ankle sprain and the recovery process was slow. After having to be shut down from baseball activity for a stretch last month, he's been on a fast track back. He made two rehab starts at Low-A Lakeland before being transferred to Triple-A Toledo over the weekend.

One of the biggest things we've been talking about this offseason is Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. After leading his team to the NFC Championship in 2024 and earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, the 2025 season fell flat. Injuries derailed the entire team, including Daniels, who now has a lot to prove.
It's one of the major storylines around the Commanders as a whole: The way Daniels performs in 2026 will dictate the direction of the organization. NFL.com's Grant Gordon recently discussed this as one of the team's top storylines.
There's a lot to accomplish for Jayden Daniels this summer following a disastrous 2025 season. The Commanders sputtered, and the 2024 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year missed 10 games due to injuries, going just 2-5 in the games he played. How Daniels looks and feels after sustaining a sprained knee, strained hamstring and dislocated left elbow is tops on the agenda. He also needs to get acclimated to David Blough's offense, which will see Daniels taking snaps under center far more now that his former ***** istant QB coach is his offensive coordinator after two seasons with Kliff Kingsbury in that role. Daniels is also in the latest season of Netflix's Quarterback series. All eyes and a heap of responsibility will be on Daniels. How he bounces back -- and how well he adapts to a new offense -- could be the story of the Commanders' season.
Last season was the polar opposite of Daniels' 2024 season. His injuries hampered the team's efforts, and it certainly didn't help that there were a slew of injuries along the rest of the roster, too.
With a new offensive coordinator and a new offensive scheme, Daniels should have a better shot at staying healthy this season. Blough likes the passing game and will do everything in his power to keep Daniels in the pocket. Sure, there will be some scrambles and designed runs, but for the most part, the idea is to keep Daniels behind the line of scrimmage.

The Seahawks announced Monday that they had placed safety Nick Emmanwori on the active/physically unable to perform list. His injury was unknown until Wednesday.
Brady Henderson of ESPN reports that Emmanwori underwent right ankle surgery earlier this month and could miss some time in training camp. Emmanwori, though, is expected to be ready for Week 1.
Emmanwori had participated in the offseason work with teammates but continued to experience soreness, leading to the arthroscopic procedure.
The 2025 second-round pick had two injuries to his right ankle last season. He had a high-ankle sprain in the season opener that forced him to miss three games and then a low-ankle sprain before Super Bowl LX , which he played through.
Emmanwori tallied 81 total tackles with nine tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 11 passes defensed and an interception in 14 regular-season games in 2025. He added 13 total tackles with four passes defensed and a fumble recovery in Seattle’s three postseason games.

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has a lot to prove in year three. He took the league by storm in 2024, earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors on the way to taking the Commanders to their first NFC Championship appearance in decades.
Then there was the 2025 season. The Commanders struggled as a whole, largely due to injuries, and Daniels was no exception. He appeared in just seven games in 2025, and the Commanders won just five games that season. He's healthy now, though, and the Commanders are putting 2025 behind them as they look ahead to 2026.
There are still plenty of questions surrounding Daniels and the Commanders, but that isn't stopping NFL ****** ysts from including him in their rankings. Pro Football Sports Network recently released its top-100 players list, and Daniels landed at No. 88.
As good as his 2024 rookie year was, 2025 was a disaster for Jayden Daniels. Much of that came from his durability issues; over the course of the regular season, he sprained his knee, injured his hamstring, and dislocated his elbow. Playing through all that pain, he dropped from the No. 7 quarterback in PFN QB Impact Scoring in 2024 down to No. 27 in 2025.
Though his sophomore year didn't live up to the hype, Daniels makes the list because of how fantastic his rookie season was. He threw for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and a 69.0% completion percentage while also tallying 891 rushing yards. He looked like an elite dual-threat quarterback in the making two years ago. Now, it's just a matter of getting back on track.

PHILADELPHIA — Kyle Schwarber of the host Philadelphia Phillies will lead off for the National League in the All-Star Game as the replacement for designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, who is skipping the showcase to have a knee procedure ahead of the season’s second half.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene and two New York Yankees, first baseman Ben Rice and outfielder Cody Bellinger, gained American League starting spots because of injuries.
Rice, third in the major leagues with 29 home runs behind Schwarber (32) and the Houston Astros’ Yordan Alvarez (31), starts at first because Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is skipping the game to rest a bad back. Guerrero’s initial replacement, the Athletics’ Nick Kurtz, sprained his thumb.
Bellinger replaced Yankees teammate Aaron Judge, who hasn’t played since May 31 because of a fractured rib. Greene took over from Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton, sidelined by a hip injury. Bellinger will be in right and Greene in left.

Baker Mayfield's performance declined in his third year as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quarterback last season. But he was apparently dealing with injuries that weren't previously reported.
Mayfield reveals that he played with a sprained MCL and PCL in his knee since Week 2 on the new season of Netflix's "Quarterback" docuseries, via the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud. The third season of "Quarterback" premieres July 14.
If that was indeed the case, it's presumably news to the NFL. Mayfield's knee wasn't mentioned much during the season on the league's injury report. "Knee" is only listed four times among the 10 weeks when Mayfield's name was among the Bucs' injuries — in Weeks 5, 8 10 and 18 — as Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio highlights.
Otherwise, biceps, oblique and shoulder injuries, in addition to illness were mentioned for Mayfield on the injury report.

CHICAGO — White Sox rookie center fielder Tristan Peters probably couldn’t dream up a better 24-hour period if he tried.
Friday night, he worked his way into Sox annals by becoming the seventh player in franchise history to hit for the cycle in a 14-1 win against the Athletics.
Then on Saturday morning, he learned he had been selected to the American League All-Star roster as a replacement, joining Sox teammates Miguel Vargas and Munetaka Murakami for the Tuesday game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
“I mean, it’s surreal,” Peters, 26, said before Game 2 of the series Saturday afternoon at Rate Field. “It doesn’t feel real at the moment. I can’t believe this is all happening. It feels like all at once. I’m just so grateful.”
Peters, who’s slashing .302/.356/.482, replaced Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz, who went on the injured list Saturday with a right thumb sprain.

The Memphis Grizzlies revealed injury updates on key players ahead of a July 10 matchup against the Chicago Bulls.
Karim Lopez (mild left hamstring strain during his predraft process) and Walter Clayton Jr. (mild right knee sprain) are both out against the Bulls, according to a team spokesperson. They are considered day to day.

Williams' four-year, $104 million free agency deal was eye-opening in March 2025, given he was a rotational lineman with Philadelphia. The United States men's national team is out of its own World Cup, and the manner of the exit — a 4-1 blowout to a Belgium side that started Jérémy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne on the bench — has reopened the same question that follows every American World Cup cycle. Is any of this going to stick?
Charles De Ketelaere scored twice in the first half in Seattle on Monday and set up a third. Romelu Lukaku added a fourth late. It was the USMNT's fourth Round of 16 exit in the last five World Cups it has actually qualified for, and it happened on home soil, with the suspended red card of striker Folarin Balogun barely making it back in time to matter.
"It feels exactly the same," Tyler Adams said, adding that the tournament had its positives but that ultimately "it just doesn't feel like it matters."
Christian Pulisic became the face of that frustration by Monday night. He was pulled midway through the second half with an ankle injury, closing out a tournament in which he'd already missed one match and left two others early. FS1's Nick Wright wasn't interested in the injury excuse, calling it "unacceptable" for the team's most talented player to disappear in the biggest game of his career, whatever else went wrong around him. Pulisic himself brushed the exit off as a sprained ankle in his post-match interview with Fox's Jenny Taft, saying only that he now had time to rest before adding, more broadly, that the U.S. still has "that next step to climb" against the best teams in the world.

The soccer savior, once dubbed Captain America, isn’t getting off easy after again failing to perform on the biggest stage for his national team.
Christian Pulisic was subbed off in the 58th minute of the United States’ round-of-16 match against Belgium on Monday night after failing to recover from an apparent foot injury suffered a few minutes earlier, when Pulisic kicked the leg of a Belgium defender while winding up for a shot. It was a fitting end to Pulisic’s World Cup. The U.S. star played just 45 minutes during the group stage, subbing out at halftime against Paraguay with a calf strain, returned for a full 90 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32, and left the field less than an hour into arguably the most important game in USMNT history.
Things weren’t going well for Pulisic throughout his 58 minutes on the pitch. His first five touches of the game all led to turnovers, and he lost possession a game-leading 11 times in the first half. The U.S. was down 3-1 by the time he subbed off, and the writing was already on the wall that this team would once again exit the World Cup in the final 16.
After the game, Pulisic made matters worse for himself.
Speaking with Fox Sports reporter Jenny Taft, Pulisic explained his injury: “I mean, I just twisted my ankle, sprained my ankle. It’s just frustrating to end like that, of course. But, you know, now I get time to rest, so hopefully it’ll be okay.”

Milan have a fresh injury concern on their hands after Santiago Gimenez was forced off during Mexico’s World Cup defeat to England.
The striker suffered a right ankle problem in the closing stages of the last-16 tie at the Azteca, which the hosts lost 3-2 as England, despite finishing with ten men, booked a quarter-final against Erling Haaland’s Norway.
Introduced at the hour mark, Gimenez was hurt by an awkward movement of his right ankle, notably without any contact from England’s Djed Spence, and had to leave the field during Mexico’s late push before heading to hospital for tests.
