DeSoto (Texas) football was on the wrong end of a 38-14 beatdown on Saturday to open its 2026 season. The Eagles traveled to Florida for a top-25 national tilt against St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) in the Broward County Classic High School Football Showcase.
The matchup already carried plenty of juice as it pitted one of Texas' top programs against one of Florida's. DeSoto, however added some fuel to the fire once the teams met at midfield before kickoff in Fort Lauderdale.

St. Thomas Aquinas players went to shake the hands of the visitors, but they wanted no part, stonewalling the Raiders for a few seconds before each team made their way back to their respective sidelines.
That clearly fired up the home team, who went on to win by 24 points. On Monday afternoon, two days after the lopsided loss, DeSoto's team social media took to X to address the pregame incident and apologize to St. Thomas Aquinas:

Peyton Watson admits that the Nuggets rushed him back after his hamstring injury originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
During the 2026 Playoffs, the Denver Nuggets had to sit Peyton Watson due to a lingering hamstring injury. Earlier in the 2025-26 season, Watson sat out six weeks because of a Grade 2 hamstring strain he suffered in February. Unfortunately for him, he did not get to play in the postseason because he re-aggravated it in early April.
Watson's agent, Rich Paul, of Klutch Sports, revealed on his Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman that he discouraged his client from rushing back. It was noted as a "business decision" ahead of his free agency. Now, Watson is enjoying his move to the Cleveland Cavaliers with a four-year $88 million contract.
Watson was one of the Nuggets' best players in the 2025-26 season, as he showcased that he plays impressive defense at the perimeter and in the paint. At the same time, he took an offensive leap, as he went from scoring 8.1 points a night in the 2024-25 season to a 14.6 points per game average in the following year.
His three-point shooting also took a massive leap, as he went from a 35.3% shooting split to shooting 41.1% from beyond the arc in the 2025-26 season. It is clear why he is such a massive loss for the Nuggets because he is a good fit alongside their core trio of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon.

The FSU Seminoles beat the New Mexico State Aggies 34-17 to start the season, which means one Florida State player was given the honor of breaking the rock after the game. There was a clear choice after the game, with Samuel Singleton Jr. being chosen after an excellent game.
He showcased his ability to affect the game in multiple ways, making explosive plays as a runner, receiver, and returner. The senior finished with a game-high 164 yards from scrimmage and a pair of touchdowns, and head coach Mike Norvell admitted he was proud of him after the game.
"Sam's a guy that's a really talented football player," Norvell said. "He's growing, just in all areas. I was proud of him to see his impact in all three phases of it. The return game had a big kickoff return. Obviously, you had some good runs, but then you're also catching the ball out of the backfield was great to see and to see his confidence growing and what we do."
"It was a great start for him to this season, and we're expecting big things as we continue to move forward," he added.
Singleton has improved each year he has been at FSU, and while there is a long way to go, his senior year is off to an excellent start.

Two telecommunications giants recently showcased the contrasting sides of the 5G and connectivity ecosystem. On August 6, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) announced it selected Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ) (NASDAQ:ERIC) to supply 600 MHz dual-band radios to support the deployment of its newly acquired spectrum from EchoStar. The partnership reinforces AT&T's ongoing network modernization while keeping Ericsson deeply embedded in U.S. carrier infrastructure.
Shortly after, on August 10, AT&T demonstrated real-world execution by upgrading wireless connectivity at Mississippi State University's Davis Wade Stadium using a Distributed Antenna System powered by Airspan's MobileAccess 6000. While AT&T is actively converting network upgrades into sticky, high-margin subscriber growth, Ericsson faces the capital-intensive burden of hardware delivery.
Ken Wolter / Shutterstock.com
AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) is showing a stronger financial trajectory and cash-generation profile than its equipment vendor partner, Ericsson. In Q2 2026, AT&T's consolidated revenue increased 2.3% year over year to $31.6 billion, supported by a 5.1% increase in Advanced Connectivity service revenue. Adjusted EPS surged 20.4% to $0.65, beating the $0.59 consensus estimate, while adjusted EBITDA rose 5.2% to $12.3 billion, producing a strong 39.1% margin. Free cash flow reached $4.7 billion, enabling management to raise its full-year share buyback target to $10 billion while maintaining its forecast for more than $18 billion in full-year free cash flow.
Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ) (NASDAQ:ERIC), meanwhile, faced weaker operating momentum in Q2 2026, with net sales declining 6% year over year to SEK 52.7 billion, or approximately $5.0 billion, due to lower IPR licensing revenue and uneven carrier capital spending. Net income fell 12% to SEK 4.1 billion, or approximately $390 million, although adjusted gross margin remained resilient at 48.4%. Free cash flow before M&A, however, plunged from SEK 2.6 billion to just SEK 385 million, or approximately $36.7 million.

Diane Parry never expected to be the champion of WTA Monterrey, but after a grueling battle with Elise Mertens in the final, it's the Frenchwoman who emerged as champion in Mexico's Sultan of the North.
After a 6-4 0-6 6-3 win over Elise Mertens in the final, Diane Parry spoke on court about how she didn't have the highest of expectations entering the Abierto GNP Seguros, WTA Monterrey, saying "I came here last minute with almost nothing and didn't know what to expect"
Parry's ability to strike the ball from the baseline and work out of difficult situations showed the 23-year-old can win matches anywhere, as she bounced back from being bageled in the second set to focus in and get past the veteran Mertens. Parry also showcased a great one-handed backhand. Some of her best shotmaking came after she took a medical timeout in the second set and needed medical attention to her lower back.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The day before the Chicago Bears must reduce the roster to 53 players, they used exactly 53 to close out preseason with a 24-15 victory over the Tennessee **** ans on Saturday at Nissan Stadium.
Rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas had a 97-yard touchdown on the first offensive play from scrimmage when he juked **** ans cornerback Keydrain Calligan with a stutter-and-go and then showcased the blazing speed that might make him the fastest player the Bears have had in some time.
Thomas totaled 140 yards on five catches and had a 39-yard punt return, and backup quarterback Tyson Bagent was supersharp after missing a week of practice, completing 16 of 17 passes for 208 yards and two scores.
And just like that, with most of the team's frontline players wearing ballcaps instead of helmets, it's on to the regular season after the Bears reduce the roster to 53 by 5 p.m. Sunday.
10 thoughts following the preseason finale.

Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas introduced himself to the rest of the NFL in the team's preseason finale against the Tennessee ******* ans, where he made plays on offense and special teams that should have Bears fans excited.
But it was the very first play on offense for the Bears where Thomas showcased what he can develop into in this Ben Johnson offense. Thomas pulled a double move on a ******* ans defender to break free, where quarterback Tyson Bagent found him downfield and Thomas used his speed to separate from a second defender down the right sideline for a 97-yard touchdown.
Thomas ended the game with five catches on five targets for 140 yards and one touchdown. He also found success in the return game, including a 39-yard kickoff return and 22-yard punt return.
Thomas' teammates, Luther Burden III and Jahdae Walker, took to social media to share their reactions to the impressive touchdown.
The Bears have a slew of weapons on offense, including wide receivers Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, Kalif Raymond, Jahdae Walker and Thomas, as well as tight ends Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet. It's a crowded room, for sure, but head coach Ben Johnson will surely find a way to get Thomas involved in the passing game and use him to make things difficult on opposing defenses.

We've been keeping tabs on the former Minnesota Vikings for a few years now. With so many notable players around the league, it is easy. What isn't as easy is remembering the role players, or the depth players who showcase themselves in the small roles that make the big difference.
One of those former Vikings was released on Saturday as roster cutdowns begin.
The Pittsburgh Steelers released linebacker Jamin Davis on Saturday, Aug. 29, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor. Davis did not play any games with the Steelers and was with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025.
Before then, though, Davis was with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024 after being picked up when Ivan Pace Jr. went down with an injury. Davis, a former first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, only appeared in four games with the Vikings and made five tackles and one sack during his time with the team.

Josh Chambers: Joe Mazzulla says his goal as Celtics coach is to be forgotten "If the people around you didn't do what they do… I wouldn't do anything. The thing I reflect on the most is… I think you have to be willing to be forgotten. I think that's kind of my main goal." "I want to be forgotten about. Because that means after you… It was better. I think that's what it means to be a Celtic. However long you play, coach, work for the Celtics…" "Your job is to keep it exactly where it's at or bring it better. You cannot bring it down. If you leave and it gets worse, that's your fault. If you leave and they win, and they forgot about you, you did your job." "I talk about that every day with the staff. Our job is to one day be forgotten about because you did your job. It became about something bigger than you." "It's a burden and a love for being with the Celtics… But it's a responsibility. I think we could take that into our daily life. Can I leave it so much better that they don't remember me because the next person came and was better?"

On draft night, when teams Cenac had worked out for such as the 76ers, Raptors, and Knicks passed on him, Cenac seemed discouraged to Sampson. But the coach told him the night had a favorable result. "I said, 'Chris, I'm glad those teams didn't take you,' " he said. "Then when Boston took him, I said, 'They believe in you, Chris. You went to the right team.' Brad Stevens is one of the best basketball people in the world, and I've been so impressed with [coach] Joe Mazzulla." — 8/22/2026 Boston Globe
In June, while the NBA Finals and the Liga Betclic Finals were taking place, Neemias Queta had the opportunity to show Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla around Lisbon, Benfica and Barreiro, where Queta grew up and played. What did Mazzulla tell him about what he saw in Portugal and Portuguese basketball? "I think he liked what he saw. He said there are people who can make it there if they really want to work hard. And I think he really loved Portugal. I think the thing he liked the most was the food. It was a good time. He came alone, but he said next year he's coming with his wife and kids. We'll welcome them with open arms," Queta revealed. As for his expectations for the Celtics next season, Queta expects them to "be competitive again." "People have already started saying again that the other teams are the good ones and that we don't have enough quality. But I think, with the group we have, the people we have in the locker room? And our coach?" — 8/19/2026 A Bola
A February 4th game between the Celtics and the Houston Rockets served as an inflection point in Harper's season; he started for the first time in his career, guarded Rockets star Kevin Durant, and showed himself — and the world — he belonged. It's a game that Joe Mazzulla has pointed to as well in that it showcased Harper's readiness and preparation. With five birdies on his back nine and four on the front, Rory McIlroy carved up East Lake Golf Club with his putter throughout Saturday's third round to post a thrilling 7-under 63.
A pair of par-3 bogeys at No. 2 and No. 11 limited McIlroy from tying — and perhaps breaking — the low score of the tournament. It was still a showcase for the three-time FedExCup winner who put together his best round of the week — and beat his previous best mark of the 2026 playoffs, a 6-under 64 during the opening round of last week's BMW Championship.
McIlroy and Round 3 playing partner Si Woo Kim were the fourth pairing off the tee in Atlanta on Moving Day, and now have a long wait as the 11 other duos behind them are still on the course.
His birdie putt on the par-4 17th brought him into a five-way tie with Chris Gotterup, Viktor Hovland, Cameron Young and Ryan Gerard. It also gave him a stretch of three consecutive made birdie putts.
McIlroy went on to par his final hole after his tee shot disappeared off the fairway. He scrambled beautifully and gave himself at a fourth straight circle but would up just right of the cup on his birdie attempt.

Once a formidable force in fashion media, Vogue Arabia no longer commands the attention it once did (especially here on theFashionSpot). The last time the ***** le (which arrived with much fanfare and the help of Gigi Hadid in early 2017) truly commanded our attention was a whole six months ago, when Lindsay Lohan was welcomed as a cover girl. The chart-topping American rapper receives the full Vogue cover treatment for the occasion, posing for the photographer Szilveszter Makó. Meghan Markle is ready to jump back into acting full-time, a source tells In Touch.
After news broke of her and Prince Harry's plans to return to the U.K., rumors began swirling that the ******* ss of Sussex, 45, was in talks to join Guy Ritchie's Netflix show, The Gentlemen, which was recently renewed for a third season and, more importantly, films in England.
"The fact that she can do it from the U.K. is quite appealing as well," notes the source. "Not just because it gives her a reason to be there while Harry focuses on mending things with his family, but also because she'll be a big fish in a small pond, so there will be more opportunities for her."
As In Touch previously reported, Meghan has set her sights on winning an Oscar.
"Her goal is to score [a role in] something high-profile that will allow her to really showcase her talent and maybe even start winning awards," says the source. "She's not limiting herself to acting, though. Her brand is still going to be a huge focus."

Apple TV's recent docuseries on UConn women's basketball provided a trip down memory lane for Rebecca Lobo, documenting her journey from program-changing recruit to the leader of Geno Auriemma's first national championship squad.
Lobo's favorite moment from the three-episode series, however, captured a much more recent moment within the program. 10 days after a season-altering loss at Tennessee during the 2024-25 season, UConn bounced back resoundingly with an 87-58 win at South Carolina, prompting Auriemma to deliver a triumphant locker room speech that still resonates with Lobo.
"My favorite clip from the UConn doc. Look at the players' faces [and] how they respond to Coach's words," Lobo wrote on social media platform X. "Playing for [UConn] isn't easy, but there's great satisfaction when you accomplish challenging things together. His players care about each other [and] love him. You see that here."
The 6-foot-5 Lobo towered over her high school competition in western Massachusetts, where she emerged as one of the nation's top recruits and drew the attention of over 100 colleges around the country. Lobo ultimately stayed close to home and joined UConn, citing a focus on academics, becoming one of the first major recruits that Auriemma drew to Storrs.
Her blue-chip pedigree didn't deter Auriemma's hard-nosed coaching style, as Apple's docuseries showcased his push for Lobo to embrace a more physical brand of basketball. Auriemma's efforts ultimately paid off, as Lobo blossomed into the National Player of the Year and helped capture UConn's first national **** le with a memorable win over Tennessee in 1995.

Missouri soccer showcased its most dominant performance of the 2026 season, flying past Northern Illinois in a 4-0 rout on Thursday, August 27 in Columbia. Junior midfielder Landis Canada led the way with her first collegiate brace, while Missouri's freshmen class continued to impress across the board.
The Tigers took the lead after 22 minutes of play, when junior midfielder Landis Canada drove the ball into the back of the net from point-blank range. The ball bounced around the box in the resulting calamity from a corner kick, and Canada finished it comfortably — finding her first goal of the season.
Freshman Lana Adams doubled the Tigers' lead in the 66th minute. She found her first collegiate goal by dancing around several Huskies defenders before rocketing the ball into the back of the net from 20 yards out. This broke the seal for the Tigers and allowed them to find their rhythm in front of the goal.
"It's mentality and execution," head coach Stefanie Golan said post-match. "I think that the women had the right mentality and they executed, and you know that's really what those opportunities come down to."
They continued this momentum when, just moments later, Canada found her second goal of the affair, knocking in a header from a corner kick in the 67th minute. The single-game brace matches her total goals in her collegiate career thus far.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will wrap up their preseason slate Thursday, Aug. 27 with a visit to the Buffalo Bills and their brand new Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y.
The matchup will be a final showcase for young quarterbacks Drew Allar and Will Howard before Aaron Rodgers takes command of the offensive huddle for the regular season. Both are looking to leave lasting positive impressions after excellent outings in the opener against Green Bay Packers, then comparative duds last week against the New York Jets.
Howard threw a pair of interceptions as the starter last time out. The mistakes short-circuited drives that had reached deep into New York territory. Allar, meanwhile, battled receiver drops, penalties and his own indecision en route to a scoreless second half for the offense.
Required reading: Steelers, Joey Porter Jr. are at contract 'impasse,' coach Mike McCarthy says
Also of note will be the possible NFL debut of 2026 first-round NFL draft pick Max Iheanachor. The offensive tackle returned to practice this week after missing about half of training camp and all of the preseason to this point because of an arm/shoulder injury.

Jannik Sinner ranks first in 2026 tennis tournament winnings with $11.62 million. Alexander Zverev sits just behind Sinner in year-to-date on-court earnings with $9.22 million. The German took home $3.27 million for winning Roland Garros—that amount was up 10% from the previous year's winner's prize—and followed that up by making the final at Wimbledon. A historical Los Angeles property that late actor Tim Curry spent years carefully restoring to its former glory has come under offer, just hours after new of the "Rocky Horror" star's passing was announced.
The sprawling property, which is located in Los Feliz, was purchased by the actor for just $650,000 in 1993—and then underwent a multi-year renovation by Curry, who later showcased the results of the transformation in a shoot for Architectural Digest.
Drawing on inspiration from European design style, Curry—who passed away at the age of 80, 14 years after he suffered a major stroke—transformed the house into a warm, eclectic abode that would later be owned by a host of other famous faces, including "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson, "The Pitt" actor Noah Wyle, and "The Big Bang Theory" comedian Jim Parsons.
The four-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom spread was most recently listed for just under $10 million in July 2025, however it has since undergone several price cuts that eventually brought the ask down to $7.5 million on Aug. 6 of this year.
When news of Curry's death was revealed to the public, the home—which is listed with Ben Belack of Alex Everest—was still on the market, however records how now been updated to reflect that it has come under "contingent" offer, meaning that the seller has accepted an offer, but certain conditions need to be meet before the deal can close.

On August 14, AirJoule Technologies (NASDAQ:AIRJ) reported second-quarter results that arrived alongside a striking backdrop: state governments are now blocking new data centers over water use, and AirJoule sells machines that make water out of thin air. The company posted a net loss of $8.5 million, mostly noncash, while laying out how tightening water rules in New York, Texas and California are turning into sales opportunities rather than obstacles. It is a story about regulation reshaping demand before the revenue has caught up.
New York enacted a moratorium on data center permits above 50 megawatts, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott paused new grid-connected data center approvals pending a water audit, according to CEO Matt Jore. California's own water supply strategy projects the state could lose 10% of its water supply by 2040 due to hotter, drier conditions, and any residential project of 500 units or more there now needs written proof of a 20-year water supply just to get a permit. Texas faces a similar squeeze: state water plans point to a 10% decline in supply by 2080 even as the population is expected to grow 53% in that span. AirJoule's answer is a system that pulls distilled water from humidity using low-grade waste heat, sidestepping municipal supply entirely.
That pitch just found a distribution channel. In July, AirJoule signed an exclusive sales agreement with Kubota Corporation covering residential developments in Texas and California, with two Core systems set to deploy near Corpus Christi and in Irvine this quarter. The company is also stacking up validation: a Core unit is running as a showcase at GE Vernova's new Frontier campus in Niskayuna, New York, another shipped to Expo City Dubai after AirJoule won one of the UAE's first Expo City green licenses, and the first Prime unit is headed to Europe to demonstrate data center waste-heat recovery for Net Zero Innovation Hub members including Google and Microsoft. Corporate cash stood at $41.4 million as of June 30, and combined with the joint venture's balance, AirJoule holds $43 million with zero debt.
That $8.5 million net loss included $5.1 million in noncash charges tied to the rising fair value of earnout and vesting share liabilities, a reminder that the balance sheet is exposed to swings that have nothing to do with operations. More tangibly, AirJoule raised its 2026 cash spend guidance to $27 million to $28 million, up from an earlier $25 million estimate, because commercialization is moving faster than planned. The joint venture alone burned $5 million in operating expenses during the quarter and needed another $2.5 million capital contribution from AirJoule to keep manufacturing and pilot work funded.

FC Barcelona are considering abandoning a ceremony that planned to celebrate seven players' involvement in Spain's 2026 FIFA World Cup victory as political tensions continue to rise amongst the club's fanbase.
Sunday's trip to Elche, which saw Barcelona claim a convincing victory to kickstart their LaLiga campaign, was marred by an act of violence that saw police officers use disproportionate force to detain a fan – believed to be a minor – who had an Estelada flag draped over his shoulders.
The Estelada is a version of the Catalan senyera flag that features a star and represents the fight for independence from Spain.
FC Barcelona confirmed on Monday that they are awaiting "explanations corresponding to the events and reserves the right to take actions that it considers fit to defend the integrity, the rights, and the freedom of expression of its members and fans."
It appears that one of those actions may involve scrapping plans to showcase the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy at the Spotify Camp Nou ahead of Thursday's LaLiga match against Athletic Club. Seven Barça players were part of Luis de la Fuente's squad that claimed victory over Argentina in North America last month, and the club planned to pay homage to their achievements.
