U.S. stocks fell Monday as calls from major AI company leaders to slow development of the technology rattled chip stocks, while surging oil prices added to pressure on equities.
The S&P 500 shed 0.7%, the Nasdaq Composite gave back 1.2%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished 140 points lower, a decline of 0.3%.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei argued in an essay Saturday that AI companies need to reduce the pace of innovation on their most capable models due to safety risks. Amodei told CBS News on Sunday that the "toughest dilemma" posed by any such proposal involves the question of whether China would agree to do the same. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a separate Saturday interview that an IPO this year would be "ill-advised," according to CNBC.
Nvidia and Broadcom each lost 3%. Advanced Micro Devices, Intel, and Marvell Technology posted steeper losses of 5%, 7%, and 8%, respectively. CoreWeave stock dropped 7%.
Oil prices added to the pressure on stocks. Brent crude futures advanced 4%, topping $108 a barrel, and West Texas Intermediate crude futures gained 3%, clearing $103 a barrel. Saudi Arabia shut down its East-West oil pipeline — a route used to bypass the Strait of Hormuz — after the pipeline sustained multiple drone attacks. The shutdown comes as instability across the Middle East continues to widen. It was the first time U.S. crude had traded above $100 a barrel since May.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) opened at $76,806.19 on Monday, September 14, 2026, 0.6% lower than Sunday's opening price. As of 7:31 a.m. ET this morning, the price of bitcoin moved up to $77,873.33.
Ethereum (ETH-USD) opened at $2,475.82 on Monday, September 14, 2026, down 2% from Sunday's opening price. The price of ethereum moved higher this morning to $2,514.09 as of 7:31 a.m. ET.
Bitcoin and ethereum prices opened lower this morning, as they did on Friday, but have moved up in early trading, despite oil prices moving even higher today following reports of attacks in the Middle East over the weekend.
An attack on a Saudi Arabian pipeline, as well as on homes and a mosque, has global oil prices (BZ=F) up over 11% in the last five-day period. Expectations that the Fed will raise rates this week have also risen appreciably. This morning, according to the CME Group's FedWatch tool, the chances for a rate increase this week are now 86.5%, up from 69.4% on Friday morning.

Princess Diana's iconic "revenge dress" is heading back to auction. Meghan Markle is reportedly interested in buying it, but she could face some serious competition. A source claims Kim Kardashian is among several high-profile names determined to own the famous gown. With its royal history and emotional significance, the upcoming sale could become a closely watched battle.
Meghan Markle is reportedly hoping to get her hands on one of Princess Diana's most famous looks. The black Christina Stambolian dress is set to return to the auction block in December. Sotheby's expects it could sell for up to £220,000 (approxiamately $2,96,000).
The dress has a story almost as famous as its design. Diana wore it to a 1994 fundraising gala, on the same night then-Prince Charles allegedly admitted to infidelity. She stepped out in the daring off-the-shoulder number instead of following the more restrained royal style expected of her. The look soon earned its now-famous "revenge dress" nickname.
Now, according to New Idea, Meghan is supposedly considering a bid. However, she may have to beat some serious competition to take it home. A source claimed that Kim Kardashian is "determined to own this dress." The insider also named Salma Hayek and Lady Gaga as potential contenders. Several collectors from Qatar and Saudi Arabia are allegedly interested, too.
With that kind of competition, the final price could climb quickly. The source claimed Prince Harry and Meghan's budget could become "a huge problem" when the bidding begins. And apparently, the couple may not even agree on whether the dress should be theirs.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the other major stock indexes traded lower Monday as oil prices surged amid the U.S.-Iran conflict. The Nasdaq took the brunt of the pain as Nvidia (NVDA) and other artificial intelligence stocks sold off on the stock market today after industry leaders urged a slowdown in AI model development.
Ahead of Monday's open, Dow futures dropped 0.4% while S&P 500 futures fell 0.7%. Nasdaq-100 futures tumbled 1.7% in early morning trading.
West Texas Intermediate crude futures advanced more than 4%, to roughly $104.40 a barrel after Saudi Arabia closed a key pipeline that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz. The 10-year Treasury yield edged higher to 4.98%. Also, bitcoin rose to roughly $77,600.
Among exchange traded funds, the Invesco QQQ (QQQ) was down 1.8%, as the State Street SPDR S&P 500 (SPY) fell 0.7% before Monday's opening bell.

US stock futures sank on Monday morning after the two leading frontier artificial intelligence companies called for an industrywide slowdown of AI development, sending tech stocks tumbling. Rising oil prices and an upcoming Fed meeting this week also put pressure on stocks.
Futures on the tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 (NQ=F) fell 1.5%, led by losses in chip stocks, including Nvidia (NVDA). Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (YM=F) fell 0.3%, while those on the S&P 500 (ES=F) declined by 0.6%. In Asia, shares of memory chip makers SK Hynix (SKHY) and Samsung (005930.KS) dropped.
Tech stocks were poised to fall after Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) CEO Dario Amodei wrote a 3,800-word essay over the weekend, arguing that AI companies should slow the pace of improving AI models in order to address safety concerns. Sam Altman, the CEO of rival AI lab OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), agreed in a post on X, putting the two AI companies at odds with Wall Street, which has banked on a brisk pace of improvement.
Worries about AI safety also led OpenAI to delay its initial public offering until 2027, Altman told Fortune. Anthropic still plans to list in the fall and has reportedly chosen the Nasdaq for its highly anticipated IPO.
Oil prices, meanwhile, continued to climb after Saudi Arabia shut down a key pipeline in the Middle East and as the war in the Middle East spread. Brent crude (BZ=F) traded near $108 per barrel.

A Palestinian fashion designer says she nearly closed down her fashion brand until Olivia Rodrigo stepped in.
In a new interview, designer Yasmeen Mjalli told Vogue Arabia that her brand Nöl Collective, founded in 2020, almost exclusively imported natural fibers to create their clothes. She recalled the numerous challenges and hardships of creating new pieces in the West Bank.
Mjalli told the magazine she once ordered a shipment of naturally dyed handwoven wool for the brand's autumn collection, only for it to have been held and ultimately destroyed by Israeli customs. She said she made an attempt to source replacement fabric in Jerusalem, but her efforts were thwarted due to the army closing down roads out of Ramallah.
"I was genuinely like, maybe we should stop, maybe this is our last effort. I was just so tired," Mjalli said.

Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said the East-West pipeline was hit several times Thursday in attacks that caused a number of injuries and led the kingdom to shut it down. The crucial pipeline carries crude from Saudi Arabia’s producing heartland on the Persian Gulf to Yanbu on the Red Sea, bypassing the blockage in Hormuz.

The desperate pleas for air cover from Yemeni generals started coming mid-morning on Thursday. An advance by the Iran-backed Houthis toward Yemen's strategic port city of Mocha was in full swing, and backup support from chief ally Saudi Arabia was nowhere in sight.
"The Houthis committed everything they had – waves upon waves of fighters … along with their available ballistic missiles and weapons," a senior Yemeni source attached to their military forces told CNN. The source said he contacted the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) and was ******* ured the US was "watching the situation closely and that Saudi air support was coming."
"But the air support never came," the source said. "And Mocha has now fallen."
Hours later, on Friday, the Houthis captured another key coastal ******* et, Perim Island, at the mouth of the Red Sea. The island splits the Bab al-Mandeb Strait in two, giving Tehran de facto control over another key shipping route.
The Houthis' rapid advance amounts to an extraordinary 36 hours in a conflict that had been largely on ice for years. But the kindling for renewed fighting had been laid for months amid the conflict between the United States and Iran, as Tehran seeks to use oil prices – and their impact on the global economy – as leverage.

The Williams F1 team's special livery for the Spanish GP weekend has raised some eyebrows on social media, considering the colours it is running that had links with the Bin Laden family.
Williams showed its special livery for the F1 Spanish GP at Madring, going back in time to use the colours that they ran aboard the FW07, which was driven in various versions between the 1979 and 1982 F1 seasons. They modelled the colour used in the 1981 Spanish GP – the FW07C.
They raced at the Jarama circuit, with the car driven by Alan Jones and Carlos Reutemann. The colour was linked to sponsorship from Saudi Arabia's Saudia Airlines and Albilad. Having started its journey in 1977 in Formula 1, Williams got sponsorship from the Middle East first in the 1978 F1 season.
The team ran as Albilad-Saudia Racing Team in 1979, which continued through to 1981. In the 1980 and 1981 seasons, they had one car with the Albilad Williams Racing Team name, while the second car ran under a different sponsor. The Albilad sponsorship continued until 1983, even though it didn't appear in the name.
The Saudia sponsorship lasted until 1984, after which Williams got the famous Canon sponsorship. The contentious name of 'Bin Laden' that fans are vocal about on social media pertains only to the 1979 F1 season, the first time the British outfit got backing from Saudi Arabia.

On August 31, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD), Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO), and Humain announced that their joint AI infrastructure buildout in Saudi Arabia is officially live. The deployment links AMD's Instinct MI355X GPUs and EPYC CPUs directly with Cisco's Silicon One-based 800G switches, giving Humain a foundation to offer GPU-as-a-service across the Middle East. Beyond this immediate launch, the trio plans to deploy up to 250 MW of capacity powered by next-gen AMD MI400 Series GPUs starting in 2027, staying on track for a massive 1 GW platform by 2030.
The milestone highlights how compute and networking have fused into a single market. But financially, AMD and Cisco present two very different investment profiles.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD)'s Q2 2026 results demonstrated massive top-line expansion, driven almost entirely by data center demand. Revenue surged 50% year-over-year to $11.5 billion, while non-GAAP EPS rose 82% to $1.66. Its Data Center segment alone more than doubled to $6.7 billion (+107% YoY), accounting for 58% of total revenue as EPYC server chips and Instinct GPUs continue to gain enterprise traction.
Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO)'s Q4 and full-year FY2026 report reflected a mature cash-flow powerhouse capturing an architectural transition. Q4 revenue grew 18% YoY to a record $17.3 billion, pushing full-year revenue up 12% to $63.3 billion. Non-GAAP EPS for Q4 reached $1.22 (+23%), with FY2026 non-GAAP EPS hitting $4.33. Cisco logged $9.3 billion in AI infrastructure orders for the fiscal year (up 4.5x YoY) and maintained a non-GAAP operating margin of 35.9%, generating $14.2 billion in annual operating cash flow.
While AMD clearly leads on top-line growth velocity, Cisco holds the upper hand in raw profitability, structural gross margins (66.3%), and shareholder return via capital repurchases and dividends.

Sept 10 (Reuters) - Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called U.S. President Donald Trump twice on Thursday and ‌urged him to launch strikes against the Houthis, Axios ‌reported, citing two U.S. officials.
Trump rejected the request, and U.S. officials said the administration does not intend to take direct military action against the Houthis at this time, the report said.
Reuters could not immediately verify the report. The White House and Saudi embassy in Washington ‌did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours.
According to Axios, the U.S. is increasingly concerned about the rapidly escalating conflict in Yemen and is stepping up support for Saudi Arabia while seeking to avoid direct military involvement.
Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the U.S. Central Command, traveled to Saudi Arabia on Thursday ‌for urgent coordination talks, according to the report.

1525 ET – Oil futures settle at their highest level since May 22 as strikes between the U.S. and Iran escalate and Houthis step up attacks on Saudi oil facilities. The escalation is cause for concern as inventories are low and drawing down and it doesn’t look like the U.S. is making any progress with the conflict, says John Deal, managing director of capital markets at Post Oak Group. “I frankly think we’re in really risky territory right now,” he says, with significant risk of damage to infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. “I wouldn’t be surprised, if this conflict doesn’t wrap up soon, I think we could be looking at prices over $100 maybe as high as $120.” Brent settles up 3.4% at $101.21 a barrel, and WTI rises 3.2% to $96.05. (anthony.harrupwsj.com)
1233 ET – Renewed fighting between the U.S. and Iran is dimming prospects for an agreement to settle the conflict, creating scope for sustained upside in crude, says Nikos Tzabouras of Tradu. But crude oil continues to find a way out of the Persian Gulf and the U.S. still prefers to pressure Tehran and its enablers through economic measures, he adds. “President Trump may also be incentivized to seek an off-ramp as the conflict increasingly clashes with his domestic agenda, with the midterms getting closer.” WTI is up 3.5% at $96.25 a barrel and Brent gains 3.2% to $101.08.(anthony.harrupwsj.com)

F1 drivers check out the new Madring circuit ahead of the Spanish GP, as they discuss the dangers, difficulties in overtaking and getting a lap done, and talk about the La Monumental corner.
Jeddah? Macau? Monaco? Baku? Zandvoort? The new Madring circuit has been compared to a lot of other tracks on the F1 calendar due to its nature and layout. The drivers are bracing for a hard and tough outing in this weekend's Spanish GP. The narrow and high-speed combination never works well for everyone, with the Saudi Arabian GP a prime example in recent times.
Of course, the F1 drivers eventually find a way through to get things right. But still, ahead of the start, they have mixed emotions, with most agreeing that it will be dangerous. Even though some feel it will not be as dangerous as Jeddah already is, the majority agree that defending will be much easier and overtaking much harder, as seen in Monaco.
Even getting a lap right in qualifying will be a challenge, which the F1 drivers accept. Almost everyone has had a run in the simulator, but they are waiting for the real feel, as the speed and power can only be ascertained once someone is really on track. One of its major attractions is the long, banked La Monumental, which, of course, everyone is looking to try in the real car.
Here's a list of F1 drivers speaking about the dangers:

Saudi AI company Humain has begun preparations for its IPO, after its CEO Tareq Amin announced he was ***** embling a team of experts to help lay the groundwork for its listing.
While he did not specify a date, Amin told the Future Investment Initiative conference last October that his aim was to list Humain in both Saudi Arabia and New York by 2029.
Since its launch last year, Humain has secured deals and partnerships with xAI, Nvidia, Amazon Web Services, Adobe and Cisco, to name a few.
Those achievements have been underpinned by finance from Saudi Arabia's $900 billion Public Investment Fund which established Humain in May 2025 as the key engine for delivering its AI ambitions.
The pursuit of an IPO marks a notable shift for a company whose growth so far has largely been funded by state capital.

Brent crude traded close to $100 a barrel on Wednesday, reaching levels last seen in July as markets ****** sed further military activity in the Middle East and its potential impact on regional oil supplies.
At 0614 GMT, Brent crude futures were up 1.3% at $99.22 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude gained 1.2% to $94.13 a barrel.
Brent has risen approximately 25% since early August as fighting in the six-month conflict resumed and expectations for a permanent resolution diminished.
The conflict escalated on Tuesday as Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen carried out strikes against several Saudi Arabian cities.
U.S. forces also struck multiple Iranian oil tankers, while Iran targeted a U.S. base in Jordan and attacked vessels.

U.S. stock futures were little changed to moderately higher on Wednesday as investors ***** sed further military developments involving the United States and Iran, movements in oil and bond markets, developments in artificial intelligence and renewed trade tensions between the U.S. and Canada.
At 02:48 ET (06:48 GMT), S&P 500 futures were up 6 points, or 0.1%, while Nasdaq 100 futures gained 57 points, or 0.2%. Dow futures were broadly unchanged.
Wall Street equities declined on Tuesday following exchanges of attacks between the U.S. and Iran and strikes against Saudi Arabia by Houthi forces in Yemen.
Technology stocks were also affected by market reaction to OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model, with software and services companies declining while some AI infrastructure-related companies, including chipmakers and data centre-linked industrial groups, received investor interest.
U.S. government bonds have also come under selling pressure. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield was trading just below 5%, close to its highest level in almost two decades.

LIV Golf officially filed for bankruptcy this week, hoping to rebuild a self-sustaining world golf tour from the ashes of Saudi Arabia's most infamous sportswashing attempt.
Ever since the Saudis pulled their billions of dollars in funding, the tour has faced an existential crisis. As its 2026 season concluded, it canceled its team championship event and ended the campaign early. LIV then laid off most of its workforce before ultimately filing for bankruptcy.
While LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil has hyped a potential new investor that could save the tour, the reality paints a far different picture.
According to the bankruptcy filing, LIV has until Oct. 13 to meet several criteria for BC Partners to make their investment official. At least half the players with outstanding claims against LIV, including top stars like Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, must sign on to the new agreement in order to make it valid.
Incredibly, LIV doesn't just owe money to players it forked over millions of dollars to in order to join its rebel tour. It also owes money to other people and entities, including YouTube content creator Rick Shiels. LIV still owes him $1.4 million as an ambassador, in one of the clearest signs of the wasteful spending that doomed the league.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the other major stock indexes fell Tuesday, with oil prices rising following an attack on Saudi Arabia by Iran-backed Houthis. Energy stocks jumped while software lagged. Meanwhile, memory-chip leader SK Hynix (SKHY) rallied on the stock market today, breaking out past a new buy point.

Olivia Rodrigo gave Palestinian designer Yasmeen Mjalli a reason to keep going. Mjalli said her fashion brand nearly shut down before Rodrigo's commission. The singer ordered a dress for her Daisy Chain Fields Festival. Mjalli described the opportunity as "divine intervention."
Mjalli founded Nöl Collective in 2020. The Palestinian brand works with women's cooperatives and individual embroiderers. Its designs preserve traditional Palestinian craftsmanship through contemporary clothing. However, operating from the West Bank has created major challenges.
Mjalli said a shipment of handwoven wool was held by Israeli customs. She said authorities eventually destroyed the materials. She then tried sourcing replacement fabric in Jerusalem. However, road closures prevented her from reaching the city.
"I was genuinely like, maybe we should stop, maybe this is our last effort," Mjalli told Vogue Arabia. She said she was "just so tired" after facing repeated obstacles. The situation nearly became the brand's breaking point.
Then Rodrigo commissioned Nöl Collective to create a dress. Mjalli described the commission as "divine intervention." The project gave her a reason to continue despite the challenges.

CAIRO/DUBAI, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Yemen's Tehran-backed Houthis attacked four cities in the south of U.S. ally Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, wounding more than 70 people and setting oil installations ablaze in what appeared to be a major expansion of the six-month-old Middle East war.
The Houthis, who ‌control most of Yemen's populated areas including the capital, said they had launched a broad operation deep into Saudi territory. They used drones and missiles to strike a ‌Saudi airbase in the southern city of Khamis Mushair, and targets belonging to Saudi Arabia's state oil company in nearby Abha, Najran on the Yemeni border and Jazan, a major Red Sea port.
Saudi authorities described blazes at the sites and said women and children were among the 73 people hurt. The reports of such large numbers of wounded suggested the attacks were among the biggest carried out against Saudi Arabia since the United States and Israel launched their war against Iran in February.
Confirmed images of the aftermath of the attacks in the Saudi cities were not immediately available. The Houthis released pictures of an explosion of what they said were trucks from Saudi Arabia they had struck at the border in another area.

Borussia Dortmund "remain keen" on the prospect of bringing Jadon Sancho back to the club, according to a report from TEAMtalk.
The 26-year-old is still searching for a new club after leaving Manchester United and is free to join any team he wants despite the transfer window being closed, as he is currently a free agent.
Although Dortmund responded to Giannis Konstantelias' long-term injury by bringing in Ethan Nwaneri on loan from ******* nal on deadline day, the German club are still considering a move to bring Sancho back, if the report is to be believed.
It's also claimed that Sancho is in talks with at least two Premier League clubs, who have made fresh approaches for the England international in recent days.
Clubs from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the UAE are reportedly also monitoring Sancho's situation.

With Richard Hughes' move to Al-Hilal now confirmed, Liverpool are seeking a new sporting director for the fifth time since 2022.
Hughes joined Liverpool in the summer of 2024 and oversaw the appointments of Arne Slot then Andoni Iraola. He informed the club earlier this year that he wanted to pursue a new challenge in Saudi Arabia.
Mike Gordon, the president of Fenway Sports Group (FSG), is overseeing the process of finding Hughes' replacement, with Liverpool keen to make a swift appointment.
Liverpool will look at internal candidates, but have not ruled out the possibility of appointing someone from outside the club. There is a desire to have someone that is committed long term.
When the question of stability was put to Billy Hogan, Liverpool's CEO, this summer, he told BBC Sport: "I would send a message that we are in a very healthy place as a football club - the leadership from the ownership is in a very steady place and we're looking forward to the next season and the season ahead."

Richarlison's situation at Tottenham has become increasingly complicated after a proposed move to Trabzonspor failed to materialise before the Turkish transfer deadline. As first reported by The Standard, the Brazil forward is now facing a shrinking market, with several possible routes already closed and very few obvious solutions left before the season moves on without him.
The key issue is straightforward. Richarlison has been left out of Tottenham's Premier League squad, a significant indication that Roberto De Zerbi does not see him as part of the immediate plan in north London. Everton had been linked earlier in the window, but that avenue went nowhere. Trabzonspor then emerged as a credible option, yet that deal also fell away before Friday's deadline.
That leaves Tottenham and Richarlison in an awkward position. Scotland, Belgium and the Netherlands are no longer open markets, while MLS is also off the table. The realistic alternatives are now fewer and more specialised.
Saudi Arabia stands out as the clearest remaining possibility, with its transfer window open until October 12. For players who have fallen out of the picture at Premier League clubs, that pathway has become increasingly common. Portugal could also hold some appeal, both stylistically and linguistically, with Primeira Liga clubs able to sign players until September 15.

AS Monaco have announced the squad for their upcoming UEFA Europa Conference League campaign. Folarin Balogun has been notably omitted from the squad. It comes following the breakdown of his move to Everton on transfer deadline day.
Monaco announced their UECL squad on Thursday. Balogun was not in it. Whilst Nice-Matin have reported that the USMNT international is likely to remain at Monaco, at least until the winter, there is still the possibility for him to depart. The transfer windows in Turkiye and Saudi Arabia, notably, remain open.
Balogun returned to training for Monaco on Thursday, ahead of Friday night's game against Paris Saint-Germain. He has not been included in the matchday squad for that game, however. A fitness issue had been evoked by Filipe Luís pre-match. The Brazilian manager could not give a timeline for the striker's return. This, as well as the uncertainty over his future, could explain Balogun's surprise absence from the Europa Conference League list.
Matthis Abline, Paris Brunner, and Mika Biereth are the recognised senior options at Luís' disposal.

OPEC+ is likely to leave its oil production policy unchanged for October when seven of its core members meet on Sunday, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing three sources close to the matter.
Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, Kazakhstan and Oman are due to meet online at 11:00 GMT Sunday. The seven producers have spent much of 2026 raising their monthly production quotas, with the September increase completing the phased rollback of 1.65 million barrels per day of supply cuts first agreed in 2023.
Much of that additional supply has failed to reach the market. Actual production has lagged the higher quotas as the Iran war disrupted Gulf exports through the Strait of Hormuz, while the war in Ukraine has hit exports from Russia and Kazakhstan. OPEC production rose by 1.17 million bpd in July, but output remained well below the group's quotas.
The Iran war has also weakened OPEC+'s ability to influence the market. With Gulf exports constrained by the disruption in Hormuz, Reuters said the group's production decisions now have less impact on prices and market share than they did before the war.
Brent crude was trading near $94 per barrel Wednesday as renewed U.S.-Iran fighting and attacks on tankers kept attention on physical supply from the Gulf rather than OPEC+ production targets.

LONDON, Sept 2 (Reuters) - OPEC+ is likely to keep its oil output policy unchanged for October at a meeting on Sunday, three ‌sources close to the matter told Reuters, as the producer group completes the ‌unwinding of one layer of production cuts this month and turns its focus to 2027 quota negotiations.
The meeting comes as the Iran war continues to disrupt oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz, reducing OPEC+'s influence over prices and market share. Unlike in the past, the group's supply decisions now have a more limited impact on the market.
Sunday's meeting will involve seven core OPEC+ members: Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, ‌Algeria, Kazakhstan and Oman. The countries have been raising monthly production quotas for most of this year. Their online meeting is expected to begin at 1100 GMT, two of the sources said.
In practice, however, actual output has lagged the planned quota increases as the wars in Iran and Ukraine disrupted exports from the Gulf, Russia and Kazakhstan.

Just 105 days separate the Aston Villa triumph in the Europa League final and the end of the transfer window in England. In that short ******* e of time, the villans have gone from euphoria to uncertainty in the blink of an eye.
That's because the squad led by Unai Emery has been through a genuine revolution: the backbone of the side that had been fighting for top spots in the Premier League in recent years has been almost completely dismantled. The fact is that the Birmingham club has been affected by UEFA's financial rules, so selling players was nothing new.
In 2024, Douglas Luiz's move to Juventus prevented a 10-point deduction for breaching financial fair play; later, Moussa Diaby headed to Saudi Arabia because of PSR/SCR rules, which limit clubs in European competitions to spending only 70 per cent of their operating revenue.
Then 2025 began with the record sale of Jhon Durán to Al-Nassr. Mid-year, it was Jacob Ramsey's turn to join Newcastle – it is worth noting that academy graduates tend to generate more profit, something that leaves fans deeply frustrated when they want to see local players thrive.
Now, in 2026, Aston Villa were still forced to 'sell to buy' and saw nine players leave permanently, in a process that generated £313.5 million - staggering figures that represent the second-highest revenue ever produced by a club in a single transfer window.

Saudi Arabia's power stations, desalination plants, factories and farms consume more than 1 million barrels per day of liquid fuel that the kingdom aims to displace by 2030. Natural gas and renewables will provide most of the replacement energy. Nuclear power could reduce domestic oil consumption further after 2030 as electricity demand continues to grow.
On July 22, the United States and Saudi Arabia signed a 30-year civil nuclear cooperation agreement, clearing the way for U.S. companies to potentially supply the kingdom with reactors, nuclear materials and technical services. Similar agreements with Turkey and the UAE entered into force in June 2008 and December 2009, respectively.
The commercial opportunity is in Saudi Arabia's search for additional generating capacity. The IEA estimates that the kingdom's electricity demand grew by 3.8% in 2025 and forecasts average annual growth of 3.1% through 2030.

Saudi consumption of crude oil and fuel oil for power generation rises sharply during the summer, when air-conditioning demand peaks. Combined burn reached 1.42 million b/d in June 2024, according to the EIA. It fell to an average of 678,000 b/d in January and February 2025 (the lowest level for that period since 2016) with February alone registering an 11-year monthly low of 589,000 b/d. Reducing domestic oil-fired generation can leave more petroleum available for export or other uses.
