If the conversation turns to cultural icons of the '70s, it should only be a matter of time before Suzanne Somers' name gets thrown into the mix — and we can't ignore her style, either. Somers is best known for playing lovable yet ditzy blond Chrissy Snow on the hit sitcom "Three's Company," which ran for eight seasons. Spend a lazy afternoon watching reruns of the show, and you'll find no shortage of Suzanne Somers looks from "Three's Company" you can easily wear today. And out and about on the red carpet and at Hollywood parties, Somers' real-life style was no less punchy; she regularly captured the energy of the disco era with the help of sharp tailoring, flirty wrap dresses, and, yes, tons of sequins.
Somers died the day before her 77th birthday in October 2023 at her home in Palm Springs, California, amid a battle with breast cancer. We'll always remember her for her bubbly, carefree spirit, her contributions to television history, and how she absolutely owned the '70s with her style choices. Her unmatched style is definitely a great part of her legacy.

In 1979, Suzanne Somers was captured — trademark bright blond hair framed by a dark background — while in New York City. Somers was dressed casually in a look that you could totally rock today without anyone batting an eyelash. The "Step By Step" star rocked a V-neck T-shirt with a matching skirt, both in a muted sandy brown color. And because a nipped waist never hurt anybody, Somers belted the tee with a brown leather belt that screamed country-western glam.

As a young girl growing up in Hungary, Panna Ratkai learned to dream big by going to the movies.
American movies, in particular, would always grab Ratkai's attention. Visiting the United States, which were always depicted on screen as the cool place to visit, was something she became enamored with early in life.
The best movies, she said, were always filmed in Hawaii with the warm, sandy beaches and blue sky.
"Hungary is in central Europe and so we had no water bodies around us," Ratkai said. "Hawaii was definitely a place for me that I learned I always wanted to live by the beach after seeing it in movies. I can also hike, so those are like my two favorite activities I always like to do."
As an active child not afraid to try out multiple sports, Ratkai first excelled in track, in the long jump and 400-meter hurdles.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas court on Friday slashed a $50 million judgment that conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was ordered to pay families of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre over his false claims that one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history was a hoax.
The Infowars founder can only be forced to pay about $6 million, the Texas Third Court of Appeals ruled in a unanimous opinion, citing state laws that limit lawsuit damages.
The ruling does not affect a separate $1.25 billion judgment against Jones in Connecticut, where he was also found liable for defaming and causing emotional distress to relatives of the 20 first-graders and six educators killed in the Newtown shooting.
The punishing financial verdicts against Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, in recent years have forced him into bankruptcy, led to some of his personal property being put up for auction and led to him leaving his Infowars platform. For decades, he used the platform to push conspiracy theories about the United Nations, the federal government, gun control and more.
Sandy Hook families have yet to collect any money from Jones, who has waged lengthy appeals in state and bankruptcy courts as his company faces liquidation. He remains on air after moving onto new websites and streaming platforms.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas court on Friday slashed a $50 million judgment to about $6 million against Infowars founder Alex Jones after he falsely claimed the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school mass shooting was a hoax.
The ruling does not affect a $1.25 billion judgment against Jones in Connecticut, but is a legal victory for him after he and his company, Free Speech Systems, were found liable for damages for claiming the mass shooting didn't happen.
Despite the multiple financial judgments against him in Connecticut and Texas, Jones has yet to make any payments as he appeals the amounts and the attempt to liquidate his company.
The unanimous opinion by the Texas Third Court of Appeals left intact more than $4.1 million in compensatory damages awarded by a jury to Sandy Hook parents Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis for defamation and emotional distress.
But the court slashed more than $45 million in additional punitive damages down to $1.5 million to comply with the state's $750,000 cap for each plaintiff.

LOS ANGELES -- Angel City FC's 1-1 draw with the Washington Spirit on Sunday was not the result the club wanted, but the way it got there may have offered a more encouraging sign for the weeks ahead.
After falling behind to Trinity Rodman's 65th-minute goal, Angel City refused to let another strong performance slip away. Ally Sentnor, whose first-half goal was overturned by VAR for a handball, eventually found the equalizer in the 86th minute with a long-range strike that beat Washington goalkeeper Sandy MacIver.
For interim head coach Lef Smerud, the response mattered as much as the point.
"I think today by far was the best performance we have had," Smerud said. "Our performance today is very promising, and I'm proud of the way we played."
That belief was tested before halftime. Angel City created several promising opportunities early, particularly with Prisca Chilufya repeatedly finding **** e and threatening. Washington gradually settled into the match, though, and Angelina Anderson was forced into several important saves to keep the game scoreless.

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Joaquín Pereyra scored in the 89th minute and Drake Callender had six saves Saturday night for Minnesota United in a 1-1 tie with Real Salt Lake.
Minnesota (6-6-7) is winless in eight straight.

It was the 28-year-old Callender's first career goal contribution in MLS.
Sergi Solans scored for the second consecutive game to give RSL (8-6-4) a 1-0 lead in the 82nd minute. After Minnesota failed a clearance attempt, Diego Luna flicked a header ahead to Solans, who won the ball from defender Michael Boxall and slipped a rising shot into the net.

MIAMI (AP) — Sandy Alcantara struck out eight in seven innings, becoming the Miami Marlins' career leader in innings pitched, and Xavier Edwards had three RBIs in a 7-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.
Alcantara (13-6) broke the record in the third, working his 1,226th inning and passing Ricky Nolasco, who pitched 1,225 2/3 innings for the Marlins from 2006-13. He gave up three hits and walked one. Reliever Pete Fairbanks struck out all three batters in the ninth to end the game.
Edwards hit an RBI double as Miami took a 2-0 lead in the third, followed by Otto Lopez's two-run single to double the Marlins' lead. Jakob Marsee tripled to lead off the fifth, and Edwards singled to send him home.
Griffin Conine singled and Heriberto Hernández doubled in the fifth to make it 7-0.
Angels starter Walbert Ureña (7-8) pitched the first 2 1/3 innings. He allowed four hits and four earned runs. He walked three and struck out two. Brett Kerry pitched the final 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking one. He gave up six hits.

Brandon Morrow pitched 8.2 no-hit innings, leading the Blue Jays to a 1-0 victory. It was likely the best pitching performance I have ever witnessed.
With two outs in the ninth, Evan Longoria hit a ground ball between second and first. Aaron Hill made an outstanding effort to reach the ball and got his glove on it, but it deflected into right field. Even if he had fielded it cleanly, he wouldn't have had a play at first. Hill hoped the official scorer would call it an error, but it was ruled a hit.
Morrow struck out 17 batters—just one shy of Roger Clemens' franchise record—and walked only two, facing four batters above the minimum. His 100 Game Score tied for the fourth-best since the start of the lively ball era in 1920. Only Kerry Wood (105), Nolan Ryan (101, vs. the Blue Jays), and Sandy Koufax (101) have posted better scores. That's remarkable company.
He threw 137 pitches—risky for a pitcher with his injury history. I would have taken him out after the hit, but instead, he struck out Dan Johnson to end the game. Most managers would have pulled him after the single (and 132 pitches), but Cito Gaston wanted him to finish the complete game on the mound.

Q: When are the Heat going to sign their own free agents? Haven't seen anything about Keshad Johnson. — Sandy.
A: Keshad Johnson remains an interesting case study, considering all the time he has spent around Heat players as well as in South Florida this summer. For now, it appears that the preference is to sign a pair of contributing veterans into the two remaining standard roster spots they plan to fill ahead of the season. However, Keshad remains an option for a Heat two-way contract, should he choose to accept such a deal after playing on a standard deal. So, for now, as with much regarding the Heat, it remains a holding pattern. It appears as if the Heat will wait on players they have targeted, feeling no rush into action with the start of camp still nearly two months away.
Submit your "Ask Ira" question here!
Q: We have to be patient. I remember that trade that brought Jae Crowder and Andre Iguodala, plus the one that brought Jason Williams, Antoine Walker and James Posey. — Robert
A: Hmm, patience? What a concept. Again, there is plenty of time to get plenty done. Plus, LeBron James pushed the typical NBA offseason back by about two weeks. But as you note with Crowder-Iguoldala, not all business and spending has to come immediately or even before the start of the season. When you are hard-capped, as the Heat stand, every dollar regarding payroll matters, as an exhaustable supply.

Lia Godfrey scored the lone goal as the San Diego Wave upset the Washington Spirit 1-0 on Sunday.
In other National Women's Soccer League matches, the Utah Royals crushed the Portland Thorns 5-1, and and the Boston Legacy played to 1-1 draw with the Denver Summit.
Off a turnover, second half substitute Trinity Byars drew multiple defenders to her before the ball found its way to Godfrey. She got to the ball before goalkeeper Sandy MacIver and slotted it home in the 60th minute for the Wave (10-6-2).
Wave attacker Kimmi Ascanio left due to injury in the 62nd minute, visibly shaken and limping off the field.
In her second start for the Wave, goalkeeper Sandra Paños recorded two saves in her first clean sheet.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched eight strong innings, but the Dodgers offense didn't support him, falling to the Boston Red Sox 3-2 on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium.
Yamamoto, who leads MLB averaging 6.68 innings per start, completed eight innings for the fourth time this season, tying Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara for the major league lead. Yamamoto struck out three and walked one, needing only 96 pitches to complete his eight frames. But he left trailing.
Ceddanne Rafaela, who homered in a three-hit game on Friday night, got the scoring started on Saturday with a solo home run with one out in the first inning, just three pitches into the game. He hit another solo shot in the third inning.
Those were the only hits off Yamamoto until the eighth inning, when Andruw Monasterio hit a leadoff ground rule double then scored two ground ***** later.
Teoscar Hernández went out to right field for a two-run shot in the second inning for his second home run in three days, after hitting two home runs in his previous 28 games before that.

Golf architect Kyle Phillips has broken ground on the course at the private Pandion Club in Estero, Florida. The new layout, intended to invoke the heathland courses of England with Lowcountry influences, is being built on the site of the former Old Corkscrew Golf Club that was closed earlier this year.
Phillips plans a par-71 course for Pandion Club, stretching to 7,220 with firm and fast playing conditions and a premium on strategic shotmaking. The new layout is scheduled to open in 2027 with membership capped at 280. The golf-only club will include a Lowcountry-inspired clubhouse and expansive practice facilities. The name Pandion is inspired by Pandion haliaetus, aka osprey.
The layout features sandy terrain that should promote Phillips' goals. Having built the top-ranked Kingsbarns Golf Links and Dundonald Links in Scotland and having studied courses around the world, Phillips said that heathland courses are situated on inland dunes, "like the ones we have in Florida."
Old Corkscrew and additional surrounding land was purchased in 2022 by The Hoffmann Family of Companies for $14.5 million, according to property records reported by the Naples Daily News. The Hoffmans purchased the Cottages at Old Corkscrew Golf Club for $4.5 million in a separate transaction. The Hoffmanns also own Old Collier Golf Club in Naples, as well as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Everblades.
"Everything we do at Hoffmann Family of Companies, we want to provide a unique, best-in-class experience for our guests, and Pandion is going to be no exception" Geoff Hoffmann, CEO of HF Companies' private equity arm, said in a media release announcing the start of construction. "From the moment that you drive through our gates, you will know that you have arrived somewhere special. You are going to feel like you are in nature, and this is an escape. We knew that his experience presented an opportunity to preserve the natural landscape that was embedded on the site, and that's something we are going to build around."

Next weekend, the Pro Football Hall of Fame welcomes the Class of 2026. This year, five NFL legends will be recognized for their accomplishments on the field as their stories become immortalized forever in Canton, Ohio. Off the field, another distinguished honoree will also be recognized. During the Enshrinees' Gold Jacket Dinner, Sandy Grossman will become the first television director to receive the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Grossman's recognition marks a historic first for the Hall. Over a broadcasting career that spanned more than five decades, he directed coverage of a record 10 Super Bowls, 18 NBA Finals, five Stanley Cup Finals and multiple Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies.
Grossman retired in 2012 and passed away in 2014 in Boca Raton, Florida, at the age of 78. Earlier this year, his son, Dean Grossman, received the call informing him that his father would finally receive one of football's highest honors.
"I got a text from Rich [Desrosiers] at the Hall asking if I was available to speak in about an hour. So, he called me along with Joe [Hawkins] and Jim [Porter]. I told them I had never been to the Hall of Fame before, and they told me I'm going to get on a plane this year because my father will be winning the Pete Rozelle Award," said Grossman. "It was very emotional. I hung up and started to cry."
Earning a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame is one of the most difficult accomplishments in football, whether as a player or broadcaster. The selection process for the Pete Rozelle Award is equally demanding. Candidates require an extensive case for consideration, and only one recipient earns the reward each year.

Queen Elizabeth II was inseparable from her beloved corgis, and her cherished pet pooches even travelled by helicopter if required to accompany Her Majesty wherever she went. It was no secret that she spoiled the pets, treating them to chef-prepared meals and having their sheets inside their baskets changed daily, but Prince Harry has revealed another way they lived the high life…
In his memoir, Spare, the Duke of Sussex revealed that the dogs would happily join the Queen in her private lift up to her bedroom on a nightly basis. He wrote: "In the heart of this main chamber was the grand staircase. Sweeping, dramatic, seldom used. Whenever Granny headed up to her bedroom on the second floor, corgis at her heels, she preferred the lift. The corgis preferred it too."
The Queen owned more than 30 corgis in her lifetime and at any given point, she had up to ten! Princess Diana is said to have said the gathering of dogs around her feet was like "a moving carpet".
After the Queen died in 2022, her pets were bestowed to her son, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. They were given to them for a very specific reason, because it was their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who originally purchased the dogs. The princesses reportedly gifted their grandmother with Muick and Sandy to distract her from the stress of her husband, Prince Philip's, hospital stay in 2021.
After taking on the dogs, Sarah revealed that she felt they had psychic powers. "I have her dogs. I have her corgis. So every morning they come in and go, you know 'woof woof' and all that. I'm sure it's her talking to me."

Adam Levine shared a rare photo of his family of five, including the 3-year-old son he and Behati Prinsloo have largely kept out of public view.
The Maroon 5 singer posted the picture on July 11, showing himself, Prinsloo and their three children walking along a sandy beach path. The family was photographed from behind as they held hands.
The couple's son appeared beside Prinsloo with long blond hair pulled into a high bun and shaved sides. Levine and Prinsloo have not publicly revealed his name and did not show his face in the photo.
The couple also shares daughters Dusty Rose, 9, and Gio Grace, 8. Both girls joined their parents and younger brother in the family picture, which Levine captioned, "#GANG."
People reported that the photo showed Levine, Prinsloo and all three of their children walking hand in hand. Prinsloo held their son's hand on one side and Dusty's on the other as they followed Levine and Gio down the path.

Marlins' owner makes firm Sandy Alcantara trade decision ahead of deadline originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Miami Marlins are having a very good 2026 season compared to preseason expectations. At 52-44, the Marlins are just 3.0 games back of the NL East lead, and one game up on a Wild Card spot with a game to go before the All-Star break.
With how good the season has gone, and this team having a legitimate chance to make the postseason, it wouldn't be a shocker if the Marlins didn't sell at the deadline. But, there's still time to make a trade or two.
However, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Marlins, thanks to owner Bruce Sherman, seemingly are not going to trade Sandy Alcantara this summer. The Marlins owner has no plans to move the former Cy Young winner.
"Marlins owner Bruce Sherman is telling his employees that he wants to keep ace Sandy Alcantara, and has absolutely no intention of trading him at the deadline," Nightengale writes.

Week 11 of the 2026 NWSL season saw the league return after a four-week summer break. Ashley Sanchez and Temwa Chawinga kept scoring at will, San Diego tightened its grip atop the table, and Boston showed real fight against Bay FC.
The break did little to slow the league’s biggest storylines. Washington needed late Trinity Rodman magic, Kansas City kept climbing behind Chawinga, and Chicago delivered one of the weekend’s loudest surprises against Utah.
This one saved the best for last. The streaking Spirit hosted the reeling Dash in the first NWSL match since the break. The hosts started off hot. Continued pressure at the Houston end led to several scoring chances, followed by a big break in the 32nd minute. While trying to defend against Trinity Rodman, Dash defender Avery Patterson took down the Spirit striker. The referee immediately pointed to the spot, and Rosemonde Kouassi stepped up. The Ivory Coast international went to Jane Campbell’s right, and Campbell read her perfectly. Following Campbell’s big save, neither side could find the net for the rest of the half.
The second half started out perfectly for the home side. Just five minutes in, Leicy Santos sent a terrific long ball to a wide-open Rodman. She closed on Campbell, then sent her shot to the far post for a 1-0 Spirit lead. Just moments later, the visitors nearly equalized. Second-half sub Kate Faasse got in deep against Sandy MacIver, but the Scotland international’s aggressive goaltending stopped the threat. Campbell kept the match in reach for the Dash with a brilliant late save against a perfect header from Tara McKeown.
And then, in the last gasps of the match, Houston equalized. In the 90th minute, Linda Ullmark sent a perfect through ball to Faasse. She would not be denied by MacIver a second time, and the match was tied. Just when it looked like the Dash had salvaged a point, however, Rodman broke the hearts of Houston. Four minutes into five added minutes of extra time, she made her way to the top of the box, then sent a soaring shot through the box and past Campbell’s outstretched hand. Washington moves into a tie for third (GD) in the table, while Houston now has but one win in their last nine matches.

Lucas Coenen (1:53.903) joined his brother Sacha Coenen at the top of their respective leaderboards to give the Dutch twins a sweep of qualification at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts.
The Coenens made their debut in Thunder Valley, with Lucas finishing second in the motos to Jett Lawrence. Speculation centered on them being much faster in the sandy conditions this week and that showed up on the chart.
Jorge Prado (1:55.139) posted the second fastest time overall, but he was the quickest rider in the second session when track conditions were more similar to those riders will face in the afternoon.
Prado came within a few laps of winning his first moto and overall last week at RedBud.
That means the Lawrence brothers were not part of the top two in more than a year. The last time that happened was at Thunder Valley last year.

Toronto Tempo’s head coach, Sandy Brondello, had nothing but praise for Paige Bueckers before the team’s next game against the Dallas Wings on Sunday, July 5. The superstar has helped the team to a 12-8 record. Besides, she has also been popular off the court, with the most All-Star fan votes this season. And it seems the opponent head coach has also become a fan of hers.
Tempo coach praised the young star before the game:
“She’s a generational talent and she’s gonna keep getting better and better. She saves the day, she has made so many big shots.”
In the team’s last win over the Connecticut Sun, Bueckers led the squad with 25 points, seven rebounds, and seven ****** ists. Averaging 20.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg, and 6.0 apg, the guard has taken the reins of the team, alongside her off-court partner and teammate, Azzi Fudd.
As Brandello said, Bueckers has made some big shots in clutch moments to win her team some crucial games. The Sun game was also close, where she helped the team take a lead in times of need. Moreover, her ability to somehow make some out-of-the-mind circus shots through contact has been the talk of the town.

Happy Fourth of July everyone! Anyone else ready for some fireworks tonight?
First we got a game to take care of. The A's host the Marlins for the second of three during this holiday weekend. It's Aaron Civale on the mound tonight for the Fourth, hoping to get the A's back in the win column.
The A's lineup tonight:
The Marlins meanwhile are countering Civale with former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara. He's not the same pitcher he was pre-injury but he can still shut down a lineup on any given day of the week.
And the Marlins' starting nine:

So, about those 53 points.
For the third time in WNBA history, a player scored 53 points in a single game that ended in regulation, with the latest addition maybe the most surprising of the bunch. The Toronto Tempo’s Marina Mabrey, who has never even made an All-Star team, lit up the Los Angeles Sparks in a 125-97 win Friday by making 17 of 28 from the floor and 10 of 12 free throws, tying A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage for the highest-scoring game in league history.
In the process, Mabrey also tied the record for most 3-pointers in a game (nine), a mark she also equaled two games prior. Of the nine times a player has hit nine triples in a game, three came in a two-week stretch this season: these two by Mabrey and Las Vegas’ Chelsea Gray on June 11.
Mabrey has been on quite the heater this calendar year, starting with a 47-point performance in Unrivaled on Jan. 30. That court is smaller, but she put up that total in just over 21 minutes and hit 10 3-pointers. Three of her seven 30-point WNBA games have come this season with Toronto, and with Brittney Sykes injured, Mabrey is cooking even more. She set a career high on June 19 with 37 points (the first game in which she hit nine 3s) before exploding for her 53 on Thursday.
Mabrey is playing for the most offensive-minded head coach of her WNBA career in Sandy Brondello, but she’s also playing in the friendliest offensive environment in league history. WNBA teams were averaging 86.4 points per game entering Sunday, nearly five points higher than last year’s mark of 81.7. MIAMI (AP) — Sandy Alcantara set the franchise career record for strikeouts and won his fifth consecutive start in June, leading the Miami Marlins to a 6-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.
Alcantara (8-4), who allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings, struck out Kyle Higashioka in the seventh inning to surpass Ricky Nolasco for the most strikeouts in club history with 1,002.
The crowd of 9,971 gave Alcantara, who struck out four overall, an ovation and he tipped his cap to different sections of the stands. Alcantara's outing ended after he walked Nicky López on four pitches following the strikeout of Higashioka.
Alcantara allowed five hits through the first 3 2/3 innings then retired 11 straight. After allowing eight runs and 10 hits in a loss at Toronto on May 26, Alcantara has completed at least seven innings in three of his five starts in June.
Heriberto Hernández homered and doubled, while Joe Mack and Owen Caissie also went deep for the Marlins, who built a 6-1 lead before the Rangers mounted a comeback attempt.

Marlins urged to finally trade Sandy Alcantara for $21 million reason originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Miami Marlins are a team that's hovering around .500 this season, and could wind up as a fringe postseason team, or a clear seller by the August 3 trade deadline.
While Miami could avoid acting as sellers, for the future of the franchise, it might be better if they do sell. There is one reason why Miami should sell: Sandy Alcantara.
Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report is urging the Marlins to trade Alcantara this summer by the trade deadline, and for good reason. With a $21 million club option in 2027, the time is now to get the best possible return for Alcantara.
"What also makes the two-time All-Star attractive is his contract includes an affordable $21 million club option for 2027, so he wouldn't be a rental," Kelly writes. "That may make this summer the opportune time for the Marlins to trade the greatest pitcher in their franchise's history, ***** uming they aren't in contention."
