The Philadelphia Eagles will be opening their season against the Washington Commanders, and they have some new faces on the team this year that are set to make an early impact. One of those players is rookie Makai Lemon, whom the Eagles selected in the first round of the draft.
Just like any rookie, there could be some jitters coming out into your first game, but luckily for Lemon, he has DeVonta Smith in his corner showing him the ropes. Ahead of their first game, Smith shared some of the advice that he gave Lemon.
"Just go out there and be you, man. Make the plays when they come to you. You can't dwell on if something goes wrong. That's part of the game, that's the flow of the game. No one in this league will have a perfect game. Something is going to happen, whether you miss a block, miss a jump ball, whether it's you run a wrong route. No one has a perfect game. Something is going to happen so it's all about how you respond to it," Smith said via Dave Zangaro of NBCS Philly.

I know you're being mostly facetious, but college football can be super unpredictable. This isn't the Temple of 2015 and Matt Rhule (or even the Temple of Al Golden), but they're motivated and could put a scare into an unprepared team. I don't think this coaching staff will have the team show up unprepared, but when you underestimate your opponent, that's when it's easier for them to take advantage.
Just as Michigan…or Rutgers.
A long, long time ago, before the internet, I taught a linear algebra class at the night school at Temple. While I never had my car stolen and the worst thing that happened to me was getting diarrhea from some Chinese food truck which had me wishing for Depends during a 50 minute lecture, should I have more loyalty to the school?–LarzLion

If you are new here, my mission is to help fantasy managers with any dilemmas or questions they may have through the course of the season to ultimately win their leagues. Instead, I search for players that could be perceived as fringe that could propel your lineups for weekly wins.

Kyle Pitts Sr. @ PIT (Projected FPTS - 9.4): Despite the news of Cooper Rush likely being named the Week One starter, I am still high on Pitts. He finished last season as one of the top fantasy tight ends with Kirk Cousins under center. Besides, Atlanta doesn't really have many options for pass catchers after Bijan Robinson and Drake London, and new head coach Kevin Stefanski typically uses his tight ends. Pittsburgh is also a favorable matchup, allowing 11 touchdowns and the third-most points to the position last season.
Dallas Goedert vs. WSH (Projected FPTS - 8.5): Goedert finished last season with a career-high 11 touchdowns. While it's easy to ****** ume some regression, the Eagles traded A.J. Brown, and rookie wideout Makai Lemon is coming off a hamstring injury. Philly's passing attack will likely feature DeVonta Smith and Goedert for at least the early part of the season. He will take on a Commanders team that allowed 12 touchdowns the season before (tied for the second-most). Goedert should expect to see a fair share of targets, making him worth putting in your lineup.

Brandon Graham will not be returning to the Philadelphia Eagles to suit up for a 17th NFL season.
The two-time Super Bowl champion reportedly stated as much during an event in Philly on Tuesday morning.

The Philadelphia 76ers and Flyers are giving fans a look into the future.
The teams unveiled the first exterior images of the proposed new arena being built on the old Spectrum site on Sept. 8.
The proposed arena is targeted to open ahead of the inaugural 2030 season of Philadelphia's WNBA expansion team. Comcast will own the naming rights to the new arena, which will be formally named at a later date.
The arena will host sporting events, concerts, live entertainment and community programming.
"Philly fans deserve the best arena in the world, and we are excited to partner with Comcast to deliver just that. This privately funded arena will be the home to moments and memories that define this city for generations," Josh Harris, co-founder of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and managing partner of the Philadelphia 76ers, said in a release.

The top of the National League East played itself to a stalemate this holiday weekend in Philadelphia, as the visiting Atlanta Braves and the hosting Phillies split a four-game set, two wins apiece. It was a captivating showdown between familiar rivals, one packed with impressive performances and knife's edge moments. But in the end, Walt Weiss' Braves left the Citizens Bank Park thunderdome with the same four-game division lead with which they arrived. Much happened — and little, too. At this point, the division is Atlanta's to lose.
That said, despite the dwindling of the baseball calendar, these clubs are not finished with each other yet. Three more regular-season games remain next weekend in Georgia. And, of course, there's always the opportunity for a big-time rendezvous come October.

Delonte West is recognized as one of the NBA's most tragic stories, having fallen on hard times after his career was cut short in 2012. However, during his playing days, the guard was prolific enough to garner attention from one of the league's best.
West famously represented teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, the Seattle SuperSonics, and the Boston Celtics during his seven-year NBA career. Still, his stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers as LeBron James' teammate is discussed more often.
Delonte West's tenure in Cleveland began after being traded to the Cavaliers by the Seattle SuperSonics during the 2007-08 season. While speaking about joining the Cavs on a Kick livestream, West revealed that LeBron James recruited him during a game between Cleveland and Seattle. He shared:
"I was in Seattle, you know, half the year; at the end of the year, they went to Oklahoma. We were playing Cleveland out in Seattle like, you know, the first month of the season, and I was cooking. Then, I remember we were sitting at the foul line, and James, he was like, 'Man, you know I've been, you know, I followed you in college.' You know what I'm saying? He's like, 'You remember that time I came to Philly at the Palestra to watch you play?' And I was like, 'Yeah, I remember.'"
"He was like, 'Man, you want to come play with Cleveland?' I thought he was just doing a veteran trick," West continued. "I thought he was just trying to get me out of my game by, you know, getting familiarity, but he was serious."

On paper, it could appear as though the league was taking away the 2029 Clippers pick the Sixers had the right to swap. But a league source confirmed a report from PhillyVoice that said the NBA was taking away a first-round pick the Pacers owe the Clippers from the Ivica Zubac trade and was not touching the Clippers' own pick, meaning the Sixers' right to swap that pick remains intact.

The Braves bought themselves some margin for error in avoiding certain catastrophic outcomes by winning Friday's opener of this four-game Philly series and the first of seven games against the division rivals in the next 10 for Atlanta. That said, they could still easily get themselves into trouble in the standings through these games against the Phillies. They still have a 4 game buffer with only 5 games left against Philly, and with a two game swing for each game effectively, even just winning another two of the five would be a perfectly fine outcome, maintaining a 3 game lead into mid-September. Anything less than that gets fairly dangerous, however, as going 1-4 in these next 5 games against Philly would leave them clinging to a 1 game lead in the division (assuming the teams perform equivalently in the interluding series. Sunday's pitching matchup would be a good one for Atlanta to take advantage of, with Tyler Mahle having a bunch of success in an Atlanta uniform so far and Aaron Nola having a fairly middling season.
Martin Perez dug the Braves a hole the offense couldn't dig out of in a tight matchup against the Phillies.
Bobby Miller was activated by the Dodgers, who will hope he can bolster their pitching staff down the home stretch and perhaps the postseason.
The Yankees are putting centerfielder Trent Grisham on the 10-day IL with a hamstring strain.

While it always seemed unrealistic, the possibility of Ben Simmons coming back to Philly is over for now.
The former Philadelphia 76ers star guard is back in the NBA after agreeing to a contract with the Sacramento Kings on Sept. 4.
The three-time All-Star inked a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Kings for the upcoming 2026-2027 NBA season.
Simmons, who has been out of the league after playing in only 18 games during the 2024-2025 season, said in an interview with Men's Health in June that he planned for get back into NBA shape while he worked out in Miami.
He said that included "two and a half to three hours of lifting and body work, as well as hour-and-a-half sessions on the court, with a day or two off every week. He had hoped to be back to full strength by his 30th birthday, July 20," Men's Health reported.

Howie Roseman did not close the door on a Zach Ertz reunion, but he also made it clear that the organization likes its current tight end group. Following the Eagles' 53-man roster cuts, Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice asked Roseman whether the Eagles had spoken with Ertz or had interest in bringing the veteran back to Philadelphia.
"First, I'd say what an unbelievable player, what an unbelievable person, tremendous respect for him," Roseman said. "At the same time, love what we have going in our tight end room, too."
Ertz is nearing the nine-month point in his recovery from a significant knee injury. Nothing appears imminent, although Philadelphia has maintained contact with one of the most accomplished tight ends in franchise history.
"Have talked to Zach over a period of time, obviously rehabbing his ACL and the relationship, just like a lot of our former players who've been here," Roseman said.
The Eagles formed their initial roster with Dallas Goedert, Johnny Mundt, second-round pick Eli Stowers and E.J. Jenkins at tight end. Grant Calcaterra was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return, making him eligible to rejoin the roster after four games. That depth reduces the need to rush into an agreement with Ertz. It also gives Philadelphia time to monitor his recovery and evaluate its current group during the opening weeks.

Hours after Jaylen Brown was awarded the Key to the City and State by Boston's Mayor, the former Boston Celtics star sat down for a Twitch stream, where he discussed what comes next in his basketball career with the Philadelphia 76ers.
While talking about the process of moving from Boston to Philadelphia, he began discussing his expectations for 2026-27.
"I'm grateful to the city of Philadelphia already, and I haven't even been there that long. I'm grateful that they've been a warm embrace because, for me, it's all about respect. I'm a type of guy that's going to earn his respect. So all my Philly fans in the chat, send some love."

While just about everyone considers Luka Doncic to be one of the NBA's best players, there are plenty who doubt that he can and will win a championship. The pundits point to his extremely high-usage style of play, defensive shortcomings and supposed lack of fitness and conditioning as reasons why he won't lead his team to the promised land.
Former NBA big man Channing Frye is one of those doubters. During an episode on his "Channing's Mailbag" YouTube show, he said that Doncic will not win a ring with that current high-usage style of play, although he did say that he thinks Doncic will eventually win it all.
"I think Luka will win a championship. I do not think that he will win with that style of play and high usage rate. Silver & Black Hospitality, the stadium's culinary and hospitality provider, unveiled a collection of new concessions, opponent-themed dishes, specialty ***** tails, desserts and premium offerings Tuesday. The additions follow Allegiant Stadium's second-place finishes in nationwide voting for both the AFC's Best NFL Stadium and Best NFL Stadium Food in the 2026 USA TODAY 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards.
"This year we have a lot of new and kind of fun items that we're showcasing and just continuing to elevate our food and beverage program," said Dillon Schoell, senior executive chef at Allegiant Stadium.
New featured concession items include a Fry Bread Pot Roast Taco topped with lettuce, tomato, queso fresco, salsa verde and chipotle crema; a Street Dog Torta with a Sabrett hot dog, pork belly, refried beans and avocado aioli; and a Chile Relleno Burger topped with avocado and crema. Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle has decided where he will work on game days during the 2026 season. Doyle will call plays from the coaching booth after using the preseason to evaluate whether the field or an elevated position provided the best environment.
"I'm going to go to the booth," Doyle said. "I had the Philly experience up there, and I thought it was really clean."
Doyle called plays from the booth during Baltimore's preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Ravens produced a clean offensive operation in the 24-7 victory, avoiding the communication problems and unnecessary delays that can occur when a new coordinator handles game-day responsibilities for the first time. The preseason was always going to serve as a rehearsal for more than the players. Doyle needed to establish his play-calling rhythm, learn how quickly information would travel through the coaching staff and determine which location offered the best view of the defense.
The booth provides a wider perspective of defensive formations. Doyle can see safety rotations, coverage ******* ing and potential mismatches more clearly than he could from field level. That view should help him identify adjustments and anticipate how opponents are responding to Baltimore's personnel and formations.
The tradeoff is reduced face-to-face communication with Lamar Jackson and the rest of the offense between possessions. Doyle will rely on Baltimore's ******* istant coaches on the sidelines to deliver information and provide feedback while he studies the previous series from above.

The addition of Lemon came amid the departure of A.J. Brown, who finally left the Eagles in a significant trade to join the New England Patriots.
Although Brown had seen some regression in his stats over the last two seasons, he is still a big-time player who needed replacing in Philly.

The Baltimore Ravens are about to kick off their second preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. Here are some last-minute predictions from Baltimore Beatdown's staff!
Offensively, I'd anticipate you see the Ravens continue feeding the rookie tight ends plenty. Hibner had the hot hand with plenty of targets last week, so Cuevas may draw more targets this week. Adam Randall seemed to heat up more as his game progressed as well, so look to see him more confident out of the backfield. Baltimore's defense didn't force a turnover against Philly, but I think that changes in this one. JJ McCarthy knows he's got a lot to prove for his NFL future as he settles into the backup role, and I think he gets over-aggressive and air mails one or two that the secondary takes away. I'll call my shot and say Keyon Martin stays hot and gets one.
Baltimore's O-line had a rough outing in joint practices against the pressure looks brought by Brian Flores and this Viking defense. Expect to see a bit of a regression from ***** nano and Reed as they feel the heat. There's such a degree of randomness to preseason that it's tough to predict a score, but I think Minnesota's pressure wins them the turnover battle and the game. MIN 27, BAL 20 – Kevin McNelis
I foresee an ugly, defensive game from both teams today. I predict another big day for the Ravens' secondary in particular, while I think Baltimore's offense will struggle against the relentless blitzing from Brian Flores. While there are some other positions battles such as the 5th edge players, cornerback depth spots, there are a ton of questions to answer on the line. The most obvious being the center battle. With Danny Pinter going down, is it Gwyn or Pocic who runs with the 1s? How much time does Gwyn, who's already looked great but is inexperienced, get versus Pocic, who need ramp up time? We also need to see improvement from Andrew Vorhees and Emery Jones Jr. after awful showings last week. Corey Bullock will get center reps with Pinter down but could absolutely steal a backup guard spot. Gerad Lichtenhan also looked better than both of those guys last week. – Zach Canter

Adam Randall seemed to heat up more as his game progressed as well, so look to see him more confident out of the backfield. Baltimore's defense didn't force a turnover against Philly, but I think that changes in this one. JJ McCarthy knows he's got a lot to prove for his NFL future as he settles into the backup role, and I think he gets over-aggressive and air mails one or two that the secondary takes away. I'll call my shot and say Keyon Martin stays hot and gets one.
Baltimore's O-line had a rough outing in joint practices against the pressure looks brought by Brian Flores and this Viking defense. Expect to see a bit of a regression from ***** nano and Reed as they feel the heat. There's such a degree of randomness to preseason that it's tough to predict a score, but I think Minnesota's pressure wins them the turnover battle and the game. MIN 27, BAL 20 – Kevin McNelis
I foresee an ugly, defensive game from both teams today. I predict another big day for the Ravens' secondary in particular, while I think Baltimore's offense will struggle against the relentless blitzing from Brian Flores. The biggest thing to watch in this game is the offensive line. While there are some other positions battles such as the 5th edge players, cornerback depth spots, there are a ton of questions to answer on the line. The most obvious being the center battle. With Danny Pinter going down, is it Gwyn or Pocic who runs with the 1s? How much time does Gwyn, who's already looked great but is inexperienced, get versus Pocic, who need ramp up time? We also need to see improvement from Andrew Vorhees and Emery Jones Jr. after awful showings last week. Corey Bullock will get center reps with Pinter down but could absolutely steal a backup guard spot. Gerad Lichtenhan also looked better than both of those guys last week. – Zach Canter

The Eagles continue to tinker with the roster as they approach their final 53 guys, and are adding some depth at center by signing Zeke Correll, and also brought back WR Brandon Hayes, who has bounced on and off the roster since late-Spring. To make room for the newest additions, the team also placed Tariq Castro-Fields on IR as he deals with a heel injury, and waived/injured WR Johnny Wilson.
Zeke Correll is a 6-foot-3, 307-pound center who spent the 2025 offseason with the Minnesota Vikings. Ultimately, he was waived due to injury as they approached final roster cuts, and eventually landed on the team's injury reserve list for the season. Correll spent last year with new Eagles OL coach Chris Kuper in Minnesota, so there's so familiarity with what they're trying to do in Philly. Right now, the depth at center starts with Cam Jurgens, followed by Willie Lampkin, who has impressed this training camp, and now Correll with get into the mix.
Wide receiver Brandon Hayes has signed and been waived several times over the past few months by the Eagles, and this time, it took less than a week for him to return to the roster. The WR room is pretty crowded, even with the team waiving Johnny Wilson due to a lingering knee injury.
