The Green Bay Packers appear to have the talent needed to challenge for the Super Bowl, giving the franchise a real opportunity to end its lengthy championship drought. Green Bay has not reached the Super Bowl since its 2010 ******* le run, but expectations are high that this roster could finally put the team back on that stage.
The Packers reshaped their defense during the offseason, adding Zaire Franklin at linebacker and Javon Hargrave along the interior of the defensive line. Both additions give Green Bay more depth and experience as the team navigates Micah Parsons' absence while he continues to recover from an ACL injury.
Talk of Green Bay making a move for Arizona Cardinals linebacker Josh Sweat appears to be unfounded. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst dismissed the trade speculation outright, according to The Athletic's Matt Schneidman.

Most people celebrate their 40th birthday with a slap-up meal or a surprise party.
Gael Monfils, the maverick Frenchman who always knows how to have fun on the court, marked his milestone by winning a Grand Slam match at the US Open.
Playing in the final major of his career, Monfils ensured he had a unforgettable night with a 2-6 6-1 6-2 6-0 victory over Paraguayan opponent Adolfo Daniel Vallejo.
The former world number six is the oldest man to win a US Open main-draw match since Jimmy Connors - who also won on his 40th birthday in 1992.
The New York crowd made the occasion even more memorable for Monfils by bursting into an impromptu rendition of 'Happy Birthday' during his post-victory interview.

Gold (GC=F) December futures opened at $4,483.20 per troy ounce on Monday, August 31, 2026, down 1.0% from Friday's closing price. The price of gold is rising this morning at $4,507.20 per troy ounce as of 8:22 a.m. ET.
Renewed military conflict in the Middle East and growing bets that the Fed will soon raise rates are weighing on precious metal prices this morning.
It's been over a month since the U.S. took military action against Iran, but the U.S. attacks on Iranian rocket launchers marked the first escalation since July, fueling higher oil prices (BZ=F) and inflation concerns, and pushing gold prices lower.
On Friday, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at the Fed's Jackson Hole summit didn't provide much forward guidance as expected, but it did reiterate the Fed's close focus on its mandate to keep prices low.

Katie Price has sparked fresh questions about her marriage to Lee Andrews after stepping out in Marbella without her wedding ring. Price instead spent the getaway partying with Chloe Ferry and close friend Ryan Mira.
According to Metro, Price joined Ferry and friends for a lively Marbella party. During the night out, Price wore a revealing silver minidress. More noticeably, her wedding ring did not appear on her hand.
Meanwhile, footage reportedly shared by Ryan Mira showed him dancing with Price. At one point, he lifted her into the air and spun her around. The sighting marked another occasion when Price was seen without her wedding ring. Just days earlier, she wore the ring while performing at Manchester Pride.
However, this is not the first time Price has removed it. In June, she returned from Dubai without her wedding ring amid questions about her marriage. Since then, Lee Andrews and Price have continued to attract speculation. The couple reunited in Dubai after an earlier period of uncertainty.
More recently, Price reportedly explored her legal options as questions about the relationship continued. At the same time, she announced a new live podcast tour. Still, Price has not publicly confirmed that her marriage is over. Therefore, the missing ring alone does not establish a split.

Hotchkis & Wiley, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Large Cap Fundamental Value Fund." A copy can be downloaded here. Equity markets posted strong returns, with the Russell 1000 Value Index rising by 13.9%, although many individual stocks lagged. Notably, semiconductor stocks and AI-related sectors saw exceptional gains. The rally appeared speculative, marked by a stark difference in performance between high-beta and low-volatility stocks, along with momentum stocks outperforming the market significantly. Despite heightened enthusiasm for AI investments, concerns arise over inflated valuations reminiscent of the dot-com era. While there is substantial capital investment in AI, future earnings growth must justify these expenditures. The fund maintains a cautious approach towards perceived beneficiaries of AI, suggesting that select high-quality businesses with reasonable valuations may be better positioned. Historical trends suggest that speculative markets often revert to valuations based on fundamental economic realities, and the chosen investments are believed to be well-prepared for such a shift. The fund underperformed the index in the quarter and returned 5.69% vs. 13.87% for the Russell 1000 Value Index, largely due to a lack of exposure to high-performing sectors like semiconductors, while stock selection in healthcare provided a positive contribution. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Hotchkis & Wiley Large Cap Fundamental Value Fund highlighted Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) as a notable contributor. Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) is a US-based health benefits company. On August 31, 2026, Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) closed at $392.54 per share. Over the past month, Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) reported 3.85%, but its shares are up 21.78% over the past year. Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) has a market capitalization of $85.13 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $274.84 to $436.24.
Hotchkis & Wiley Large Cap Fundamental Value Fund stated the following regarding Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Elevance Health, Inc. (NYSE:ELV) is the second largest health insurer, and one of the largest commercial insurers in the United States. Shares rose during the quarter after the company reported quarterly earnings that beat consensus estimates. It was further supported by news that the US agreed to increase 2027 payments for private Medicare Advantage plans above the initial proposal. The company is priced at a discount to the market, driven by skepticism surrounding margins and growth, despite being a superior business that grows above GDP while returning most of its cash to shareholders."

On August 25, The Marzetti Company (NASDAQ:MZTI) closed out a fiscal year of records, even as reported quarterly sales slipped 2.2% to $465.0 million. The drop traces to the planned expiration of a temporary supply agreement rather than any softness in the core business, and once that noise is stripped out, adjusted sales actually grew. Behind the headline number sits a company generating more cash and profit than it ever has, just as a fresh food safety scare threatens to interrupt the streak.
Fiscal 2026 marked the fourth straight year of record net sales and gross profit and the third straight year of record operating income, with fourth-quarter gross profit alone reaching $114.0 million. Gross margin expanded 220 basis points to 24.5%, the twelfth consecutive quarter of improvement, as procurement, manufacturing and network changes kept squeezing out costs. Adjusted operating income rose 17.5% to $52.2 million. Growth is increasingly coming from newer names. Bachan's, the barbecue sauce brand acquired mid-year, added $15.4 million in sales in its first two months and contributed 320 basis points to consolidated growth. Scanner data showed Bachan's sales up 8.7% for the quarter with distribution points up 16.6%, and household penetration climbing from 5% to 6% since the deal closed.
Management is now extending the brand into mayo, a category it pegs at $3.4 billion in potential, and into a wing sauce made at its own Kentucky plant. Texas Roadhouse dinner rolls kept up an even faster pace, up 28.1% in the quarter and 76% for the year to $58 million, selling nearly twice as fast per distribution point as the category average. New York Bakery grew 2.8% and took 220 basis points of share to a leading 45.5%, while branded croutons picked up another 100 basis points. Record operating cash flow of $283.8 million helped fund $36.3 million in buybacks and a 63rd straight annual dividend increase.
That momentum is about to run into a real headwind. A Cyclospora outbreak is expected to cut fiscal first-quarter net sales by roughly 250 basis points in both the retail and foodservice segments, and management is modeling the recovery on a similar 2018 episode that took about four months to fade. CFO Tom Pigott was blunt about the near-term cost, saying the company does "not expect to be able to grow our margins" in the first quarter, and Marzetti is guiding to a roughly 15% decline in first-quarter operating income.

On its August 26 earnings call, the company reported $96.2 billion in revenue, more than double what it made a year earlier, and said AI demand has crossed into something it calls an inflection point. But buried inside the good news sat two admissions that matter just as much: memory costs are rising faster than expected, and Nvidia is now underwriting some of its own customers' growth. Both cut against the simple growth story.
Data center revenue reached $89 billion, up 117% year over year, and the ACIE segment, which covers AI labs, cloud providers, industrial and enterprise customers outside the big hyperscalers, grew 138% year over year to $40.0 billion. Management said that segment now represents roughly half of Nvidia's data center business, a sign that governments and specialized cloud operators are becoming nearly as important as Amazon or Microsoft. Sovereign AI revenue, sold mostly through regional NeoCloud partners, grew 35% sequentially and more than tripled from a year ago, and those partners are expected to exit the year with 8 gigawatts of installed capacity, up from roughly 3 gigawatts at the end of 2025.
The bigger shift is how much of each data center dollar Nvidia now keeps for itself. Management said the revenue potential per gigawatt of capacity has climbed from $18 billion in the Hopper generation to $40 billion with the upcoming Vera Rubin platform, as Nvidia sells the CPUs, networking gear and software around its chips rather than just the chips themselves. Networking revenue hit a record, up 18% sequentially, with Spectrum-X Ethernet sales growing 2.6 times year over year. Amazon deepened its own commitment too, agreeing to deploy an additional 2 million Nvidia GPUs through the second quarter of fiscal 2029 alongside new Vera CPUs, while adopting Nvidia's Omniverse and robotics software for its warehouse fleet.
None of this looks like a company running out of runway. Nvidia returned $26 billion to shareholders in the quarter, split between $20 billion in buybacks and $6 billion in dividends, with about $99 billion still left on its repurchase authorization. Global venture funding into AI topped $400 billion in the first half of 2026 alone, with roughly 70% of that money earmarked for compute, which happens to be exactly what Nvidia sells.
Growth this fast is not free. Gross margin held at 75% this quarter, but CFO Colette Kress told investors it will bottom out at 71% to 72% in the fourth quarter as memory component costs spike, and that the size of those price increases has already exceeded the company's own expectations and is set to climb further into next year. Operating expenses are rising too, up 11% sequentially to $8.2 billion, with guidance near $9 billion for the next quarter, and inventory swelled to $31.6 billion as Nvidia stocks up ahead of the Vera Rubin launch.

AS Monaco forward Folarin Balogun (25) is now all set for a switch to Everton after the USMNT forward reached an agreement on personal terms with the Premier League club, according to a report from Fabrizio Romano.
Monaco have been open to selling the USMNT forward all summer. The former ***** nal man had an excellent campaign last time around and significantly bolstered his value. His value was enhanced further thanks to his performances for the USMNT at the FIFA World Cup. He was one of three players earmarked for an exit at the start of the summer alongside Maghnes Akliouche and Lamine Camara. The sale of Aladji Bamba to Newcastle United could allow Monaco to retain the latter.
However, unlike Camara, Balogun was keen to leave the Principality club. ASM, meanwhile, moved early in the window to secure his replacement in the form of Matthis Abline. By freeing up a non-EU spot, Monaco will also be able to finalise the arrival of Erik Lira.
An agreement between Monaco and Everton was struck on Monday night. The deal is worth a fixed fee of €45m plus an extra €5m in bonuses. An agreement has now been reached with Balogun himself. The former ***** nal forward is set to sign with the Merseyside club for four years. He has now been authorised to travel for a medical.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia launched a large aerial **** ault in and around Ukraine's capital overnight into Tuesday morning, killing at least 11 people and wounding more than a dozen others, including three children, local authorities said.
Ukraine's air force said that Russia began the attack at 6 p.m. Monday, using ballistic, cruise and anti-radar missiles, as well as 218 drones and decoys. About a third of the drones were reportedly jet-powered.
The main targets were the Kyiv and Odesa regions, the air force said in a statement on Telegram.
The overnight strikes marked the sixth consecutive day of Russian attacks on Kyiv, following an unprecedented stretch of air raid alerts that began last week.
The warnings continued at a near-constant pace throughout the rest of the week, forming a sustained, multiday barrage that has increasingly involved the use of fast, jet-powered drones. The relentless attacks have subjected Kyiv and its residents to prolonged danger and disruption, with strikes coming during both the nighttime and daytime hours.

Peyton Watson is widely regarded as one of the most promising young wings in the NBA. Although this year's offseason was marked by prolonged contract talks and the inevitable drama that follows, Watson now finds himself in a new environment after being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
While joining the Cavs could be a phenomenal opportunity for Peyton Watson, it is worth acknowledging his time spent with the Denver Nuggets. Having established himself as an elite two-way player over the 2025-26 season, Watson's credibility as a versatile defender undoubtedly boosted his overall stock.
Because of his ability to guard multiple positions, Peyton Watson has often faced some of the league's best offensive players. Thus, when asked who he considered the toughest player to guard on a recent episode of the "Curious Mike" podcast with Michael Porter Jr., Watson had to give a shout-out to one of the league's most creative scorers.
"Definitely, Kyrie Irving is on top of that list," Watson stated. "Bro, because you can literally just play perfect defense and he's just a basketball savant. He's got the most sophisticated and most refined game that I feel like I've ever seen."
"That's one of those guys that you look at and say, and I use this all the time, but the best of the best, bro, their talent is in their fingertips," Watson continued. "It's like he touches that ball, and he's just like a painter with an open canvas, and they're just out there playing like it's art, and Kyrie's one of those guys. Super tough to guard."

New Boston College head coach Luke Murray has outlined plans to bring over many aspects of the UConn men's basketball program, from the Huskies' deliberate offensive approach to instilling a collective, team-first approach.
Murray placed the finishing touches on his debut coaching staff in Chestnut Hill over the past week, bringing yet more UConn flavor to his new home. The 41-year-old, first-time head coach hired three staff members with Connecticut ties last week, and on Monday afternoon, Murray hired Jared Terrell as a graduate ****** istant, one of Dan Hurley's best players during his time at Rhode Island.
Terrell, a consensus top-100 recruit out of Brewster Academy, marked a major early win for Hurley during his time in Rhode Island. Terrell played one season on a two-way contract with Minnesota after he was not picked in the 2018 NBA Draft and made international stops in Turkey, Ukraine and Israel before his 2023 retirement.
As for Murray's other additions, Chris Mastrangelo arrives in Chestnut Hill as the Director of Basketball Administration after seven seasons with UConn, rising from student manager to the ****** istant Director of Basketball Operations. Andre Berry, who also played under Hurley in Rhode Island, joins Murray's staff as a player development ****** istant after graduating from UConn with a master's degree in sports management two years ago.

Kenneth Lonergan has taken a firm stand for Mark Ruffalo amid antisemitism accusations tied to his Israel-Gaza remarks. The Oscar-winning filmmaker and longtime friend of Ruffalo addressed the allegations in a letter to The Hollywood Reporter. He called the antisemitism accusation against Ruffalo "overtly preposterous" and said it was being used to silence his criticism of Israel.
Ruffalo's latest controversy followed his criticism of Oracle founder Larry Ellison and the company's reported ties to Israeli military technology. He also faced backlash from Paramount Skydance after criticizing the proposed Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The company accused him of using antisemitic tropes, but Ruffalo denied it and said he was criticizing political and corporate actions.
Lonergan's relationship with Ruffalo dates back to You Can Count on Me, his 2000 directorial debut starring Laura Linney and Ruffalo. The film was widely praised and marked the beginning of their friendship, which has continued for decades.
Their long friendship led Lonergan to publicly defend the actor. In his letter, he referred to Ruffalo as his "dear friend for thirty years." Lonergan called the antisemitism accusation "a cynical and disgusting lie" and questioned the motives behind it. He wants the Simon Wiesenthal Center to review its response and clarify where it detects any antisemitism.
Lonergan said that attacking Ruffalo personally helps critics avoid addressing his actual arguments. He also acknowledged that he "disagrees profoundly with many of his positions on the Middle East, Israel, Gaza, and Iran's constellation of fanatical Islamic fundamentalist proxies." However, Lonergan said people can disagree with Ruffalo's views without labeling his criticism of Israel as antisemitic.

Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA) is sending an unusually strong signal to investors at a critical moment for its artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions. Co-founder Jack Ma has reportedly purchased more than HK$600 million, or roughly $76.5 million, of Alibaba's Hong Kong-listed shares in recent days, joining Chairman Joe Tsai and CEO Eddie Wu in buying the stock.
The timing of Ma's purchase is particularly notable. Alibaba recently announced an HK$80 billion ($10.2 billion) share placement, with proceeds earmarked for expanding its full-stack AI capabilities, including infrastructure, chips, and AI models. The capital raise triggered a sell-off as investors worried about dilution, elevated spending, and whether Alibaba can generate sufficient returns from its massive AI investments.

But a close look at what is believed to be its first use in combat — on the first day of the Iran war — highlights the potential peril of deploying this weapon near population centers because it appears to spray pellets over a wide area, according to a review by the conflict monitor Airwars and interviews with weapons experts and former defense officials.
Three missiles that struck the southern city of Lamerd on Feb. 28 killed civilians as far as 50 meters (164 feet) from where they detonated, and caused damage more than three times farther away, Airwars found. The missiles detonated above a sports complex and two residential neighborhoods, Airwars found. The blasts killed at least 21 civilians, including seven children, according to Iranian officials.
Airwars is the first to map the damage radius of the strikes in Lamerd and estimate the lethal range of the weapon used.

Pete Crow-Armstrong did it again.
A day after hitting three home runs in a 17-5 win over the Cincinnati Reds, the Chicago Cubs slugger posted another multi-home run effort Sunday. Only this time, it didn't lead to a win.
Crow-Armstrong's second home run of the day managed to cut Chicago's deficit to two runs in what ended in a 7-5 Reds win. But another remarkable day at the plate gave him five home runs in two days and further bolstered Crow-Armstrong's case in what's turning into a runaway MVP case past Shohei Ohtani in the National League.
Crow-Armstrong immediately picked up where he left off from Saturday's three-home run outburst. He turned on a 99 mph full-count fastball from Chase Burns to lead off the bottom of the first inning with a home run that he deposited into the right-field bleachers at Wrigley Field.
The blast gave the Cubs an early 1-0 lead. It marked his fourth home run in a span of seven at-bats.

Harry Styles appears to have had a little fun with his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift's recent wedding to Travis Kelce.
During his Saturday night performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the 32-year-old singer made a playful reference to the venue's connection to the newlyweds.
While wrapping up his show as part of his residency at the iconic arena, Styles pointed out that Madison Square Garden is the home of the New York Knicks.
"And they also do weddings," he added with a cheeky grin, according to fan-captured footage from the concert.
The comment seemingly marked Styles' first public acknowledgment of Swift's marriage to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.

If you are just starting out as an investor and looking to generate a reliable income stream, you should begin your search with companies such as Realty Income (NYSE: O), PepsiCo (NASDAQ: PEP), and Enbridge (NYSE: ENB). In fact, these three stocks could offer new investors a highly diverse portfolio with a relatively small investment of even $5,000. Here's a look at each of these high-yield dividend stocks and why they work so well together.
