Lil Durk was so intent on revenge against Quando Rondo that he turned down a chance for peace, even after the Chicago rapper orchestrated a shooting that was supposed to get Rondo but killed his cousin instead — that's the story federal prosecutors are telling in a new filing.
Durk is days away from being tried for murder-for-hire for the August 2022 shooting that killed Rondo's cousin Saviay'a Robinson — a killing that prosecutors say Durk organized and paid for as revenge for the death of his friend and labelmate King Von. In a filing on Monday (August 17), prosecutors said they have "recently identified" a chain of text messages showing that Durk had been offered a chance to squash his beef with Quando Rondo months after that shooting, but turned it down.
In a trial memorandum, prosecutors explained that they would attempt to prove at trial not only that Durk and his alleged co-conspirators attempted to kill Rondo during the 2022 shooting; they also would show evidence that the conspiracy to get violent revenge continued even after that.
To that end, they plan on introducing at trial an exhibit containing what they say is a text message and voice memo from Durk from December, 2022 "telling his co-conspirators that an affiliate of [Rondo's] reached out to 'squash' the rivalry and ask for 'peace.'"

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas court on Friday slashed a $50 million judgment that conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was ordered to pay families of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre over his false claims that one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history was a hoax.
The Infowars founder can only be forced to pay about $6 million, the Texas Third Court of Appeals ruled in a unanimous opinion, citing state laws that limit lawsuit damages.
The ruling does not affect a separate $1.25 billion judgment against Jones in Connecticut, where he was also found liable for defaming and causing emotional distress to relatives of the 20 first-graders and six educators killed in the Newtown shooting.
The punishing financial verdicts against Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, in recent years have forced him into bankruptcy, led to some of his personal property being put up for auction and led to him leaving his Infowars platform. For decades, he used the platform to push conspiracy theories about the United Nations, the federal government, gun control and more.
Sandy Hook families have yet to collect any money from Jones, who has waged lengthy appeals in state and bankruptcy courts as his company faces liquidation. He remains on air after moving onto new websites and streaming platforms.

Aug 18 (Reuters) - A former adviser to infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci pleaded guilty on Tuesday to conspiring to evade public records laws and conceal government documents related ‌to grant research funding and the COVID-19 pandemic.
David Morens, who had worked under Fauci as a ‌senior official at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases during the pandemic, entered his plea to a conspiracy charge during a hearing in federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland.
The 78-year-old had been indicted in April on charges related to what prosecutors said was a scheme to thwart public records requests received by the agency beginning in April 2020 related to COVID-19 research grants.
He faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced on November ‌12.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — After answering six minutes' worth of questions about why the Seattle Seahawks are working on a contract with cornerback Terrion Arnold, coach Mike Macdonald was asked about the team's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday.
Macdonald made it clear he was not ducking inquiries about Arnold, who is facing eight felony charges stemming from allegations he orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men in February. The 23-year-old became a free agent in June, when the Detroit Lions released him a few days after the kidnapping, armed robbery and conspiracy charges were levied.
"I understand the situation," Macdonald said Friday. "So, I'm glad that we had the opportunity to talk about it."
Macdonald explained why the reigning Super Bowl champions felt compelled to add Arnold, who prosecutors in Florida said arranged for men to be pistol-whipped after he wrongly suspected them of stealing $100,000 in cash and luxury goods from him.
Police called Arnold the "primary conspirator" in the Feb. 4 attack, and a judge set his bail at $1 million.

Sean "Diddy" Combs is now expected to remain in federal prison nearly one month longer than his most recent projected release date.
Federal Bureau of Prisons records list the 56-year-old music mogul's release from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey as February 20th, 2028. His previous projection was January 24th, 2028, a difference of 27 days.
The agency has not explained the change or connected it to Combs' reported July altercation with another inmate. Bureau of Prisons release dates are projections and can change as sentence calculations, earned credits and other factors are reviewed.
Combs is serving a 50-month sentence after a federal jury convicted him of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Jurors acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and two ******* -trafficking charges.
Combs' projected release date has changed several times since he began serving his sentence. Bureau of Prisons records had listed February 23rd, 2028, as his expected release before the date moved forward to January 24th. PEOPLE reported that earlier versions of his federal record included April 15th, April 25th and June 4th, 2028.

On Thursday's The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne found himself a little less supportive of Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, than his co-hosts.

After Spain defeated Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, social media users fuelled speculation about alleged FIFA favouritism with a video that appeared to show blue fireworks set off at the end of the tournament, and that it was proof that the body had only prepared for the South Americans' victory. AFP photos and footage from media outlets all show that the fireworks were white, not blue.
"Spain's victory actually crashed FIFA's show," reads a Douyin video's caption in simplified Chinese shared on July 21.
It contains a screenshot of an X post published on July 20, showing blue fireworks at a stadium, while a Spanish flag was visible in the middle.
"If FIFA World Cup final was not rigged, why were the fireworks the colours of Argentina? Their plans were ruined by Spain," the post says, implying that the fireworks match the main colours of Argentina's flag ( archived link ).

Who will ever forget little-known Cape Verde nearly knocking off the defending champs when Argentina needed extra time in the Round of 32 before finally coming away with a 3-2 win.
The following round against Egypt in the Round of 16 welcomed ridicule against FIFA's officiating and conspiracy theories that the international football federation desperately wanted La Albiceleste to move on. The officiating was so suspicious that non-Argentina soccer fans started referring to Argentina simply as VARgentina, after VAR rulings lifted Argentina to a 3-2 win.
It seemed like Argentina's luck had finally run out in the quarterfinals against Switzerland, which came so, so close to forcing penalty kicks before Argentina bailed itself out in extra time — but only after Breel Embolo was given a red card. Pundits outside Argentina railed against the team because it barely survived against teams outside the top 15 world rankings. Those same pundits deduced that Argentina had finally met its match in the semifinal against an England team ranked fourth in the world.
England held a 1-0 lead and were merely minutes away from going to the final. But the Three Lions played it safe. Way too safe, some would argue, allowing Argentina to score two late goals to survive and advance.

A California man accused of stealing jewelry was back behind bars less than 24 hours after walking out of jail, allegedly pulling off the exact same type of crime while already on pretrial probation, authorities said.
Andre Wiley, 19, was arrested last week after Sacramento County Sheriff's Office detectives said he teamed up with two other men in an alleged jewelry store theft just hours after being released from the Placer County Jail on his own recognizance for burglary, conspiracy and grand theft charges.
Investigators said Wiley and 18-year-olds Andrew Ivy and Kameryus Mayhand entered a local jewelry store together.
Authorities allege Ivy and Mayhand distracted employees by browsing merchandise while Wiley sat at a consultation desk and stole two pieces of jewelry before the trio fled.

President Donald Trump's Thursday night speech was far tamer than some of his closest aides feared.
Acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte, a favorite of the president's, had in the days leading up the speech pushed to reveal the names of intelligence officials accused of concealing election interference from Trump, according to two senior officials granted anonymity to discuss private conversations.
That set off a scramble inside the White House with senior officials, including chief of staff Susie Wiles, fearing that it could undermine the president's broader point about election vulnerabilities and put intelligence ****** ysts' lives at risk, the two officials said.
They argued to Pulte that naming individuals involved in an alleged cover up of election fraud could lead to conspiracy theorists to take the law into their own hands.
Pulte, who flew to New York with Trump on Friday, did not respond to a request for comment but the two officials said he backed down.

WASHINGTON, July 16 (Reuters) - If President Donald Trump repeats claims in a national address on Thursday that the 2020 election was stolen from him, as many experts expect, he would not just be rehashing ‌old conspiracy theories.
He would, they say, be threatening the very integrity of forthcoming U.S. elections, including the November midterms.
Reuters reported ‌earlier this week that Trump's forthcoming speech would cover purported voting machine vulnerabilities and that the White House was weighing whether to release controversial intelligence to do with China's intentions or abilities to disrupt the 2020 vote.
Both of those topics are staples of Republican conspiracy theories that Beijing or other foreign powers swung the election in favor of Trump's opponent, Democrat Joe Biden.

We've argued in the past that the NFL should embrace the transparency the UFL brings to officiating. A member of the NFL's Competition Committee believes it will.

That's such a huge leap to make. Yet, with Messi and Argentina waltzing into the World Cup semifinals of this coming week, that "rigged" conspiracy theory seems to be the prevailing sentiment in some of the darkest corners of the internet. So much so that Breel Embolo's egregious flopping for Switzerland is somehow a point of contention.
For anyone who actually believes FIFA is manipulating this World Cup for Argentina and Messi with an "invisible hand," uh, pardon my French: Do you know how utterly stupid you sound? How irrational? It boggles the mind.
Do you know how difficult something like this would be to execute on a logistical basis, even beyond the parameters of the five-week tournament? Do you understand the sheer financial and ideological commitment it would take from every person who is even tangentially ******* ociated with the FIFA organization, from the people in suits to the referees on the field, to execute such a Herculean task without getting caught? Rest ******* ured, every soccer reporter on the planet would already be all over this story.

A former first-round pick could be coming to the Houston Texans should his name be cleared of all crimes.
According to the Detroit Free Press, former first-round pick and Detroit Lions starting cornerback Terrion Arnold took a physical in Houston for the Texans on Thursday.
In an interview with the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett, Arnold's agent, Nicole Lynn, said that several teams, including the Texans, have discussed potentially targeting the recently released cornerback in free agency ahead of training camp. Lynn also mentioned the Colts, Jets and Seahawks were among those inquiring about his status.
When asked about his status for the upcoming 206 NFL season, Lynn said that it was a "very good likelihood" that Arnold would be signed in the next 45 days.
Arnold, a former first-round pick out of Alabama, was released late this month after being arrested on felony charges of kidnapping, armed robbery and conspiracy. He was released on a $1 million bond last month and still must undergo a tril.

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong is scheduled to be sentenced in September in a case brought under a Beijing-imposed national security law that critics say has stifled the city's pro-democracy movement.
Wong, a former student leader in the pro-democracy movement, was arrested in June 2025 on suspicion of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security. It was the second time Wong was charged under the national security law introduced in Hong Kong in 2020, following massive anti-government protests that rocked the city the year before.
The judiciary's website on Tuesday showed a hearing for plea and sentence is planned for Wong on Sept. 2. It's expected to take one day.
Wong was accused of conspiring with fellow activist Nathan Law and others to ask foreign countries or institutions, organizations or individuals outside of China to impose sanctions, blockades or engage in other hostile actions against Hong Kong or China between July 1 and Nov. 23, 2020.
The offense is punishable by a prison term of three to 10 years, or up to life imprisonment if it is deemed to be "of a grave nature."

A group of companies claiming that they first came up with the idea of a world golf league has filed a lawsuit against LIV Golf, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and others seeking up to $630 million in damages, according to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach.
The lawsuit was filed by lawyers representing the World Golf Group and Premier Golf League. They accused LIV Golf, the PIF, Golf Saudi and others of breach of confidence and unlawful means conspiracy. More specifically, two former World Golf Group founders, Richard Marsh and Jed Moore, are accused of breaching fiduciary duty for helping the Saudis launch LIV Golf in the first place.
"The Claimants conceived the idea for a new golf league called the Premier Golf League," the complaint says. "Over the course of several years, the Claimants refined the format of this league and produced business plans, contracts, financial models and other intellectual property belonging to the Claimants, which provided the blueprint for its launch and success.
"The Defendants conspired together to use the Claimants' confidential information without the permission of the Claimants to launch the LIV Golf League."
The lawsuit was filed in Commercial Court in London on April 16. They are seeking between $210 and $630 million in damages.

Credit to James Pearce for The Athletic, who reports that Xavi Valero has now stepped down as Liverpool's head of first-team goalkeeper coaching.
This is straightforward enough on the surface. Valero informed Liverpool before the end of last season that he wanted to return to Spain. He leaves after only a year back at Anfield, and the departure is described as amicable. So, no drama, no conspiracy, no need to force a storyline where there may not be one.
Still, it is another significant change during an already busy transition. Iraola has brought four members of his Bournemouth staff with him, while departures in late May opened up several ******* es around the first team setup. Liverpool have kept Luiz Fernando Iubel in place, which matters because he offers a bridge between academy work and the senior environment, something smart clubs protect.

The immediate issue is obvious. Liverpool now need a new senior goalkeeper voice at a time when pre-season is about to begin. Colin Stewart is expected to take charge on an interim basis, and the club are ******* sing candidates. Interim fixes are fine in July, but goalkeeper coaching is one of those jobs where clarity and trust count for plenty.

"You guys can't sort of have this, I'm worried they're going to have a Super Bowl wedding thing this season. Can't do it. The Kansas City Chiefs have to follow the same rules as everybody else."
"So if we see the refs being particularly friendly to Kansas City Chiefs players, then I think all football fans should be willing to push back on the NFL and say, look, you guys got to be fair. Just because Travis is getting married to Taylor, you still can't put your thumb on the scale for the Kansas City Chiefs."
Vance’s words ignited NFL conspiracy theorists who believed the NFL had been biased toward the Chiefs following back-to-back Super Bowl **** les.

German supporters left Boston shell-shocked on Monday after their World Cup squad fell to a scrappy Paraguay team in a penalty shootout during the Round of 32. The devastation, it seems, has broken even the team’s most optimistic and joyful supporter.
Freddy, or FreddyLA7 as his handle would read, became the viral sensation of this World Cup. A wide-eyed German youngster, Freddy gained a (seemingly organic) following in the lead-up to the World Cup by posting his travels throughout the United States, discovering the innocent joys of late-night Taco Bell, diverse landscapes, and Ella Langley as he and his German buddies traversed the country.
Freddy’s X account skyrocketed in popularity as the month of June went on, and the anonymous German started meeting with the likes of JJ Watt and NASA astronauts, and seemingly any other person or brand looking for an instant injection of free publicity.
But now, fewer than 24 hours of Germany’s defeat, Freddy’s account is nowhere to be found. It appears as if Germany’s early exit from the World Cup officially broke Freddy.
The Freddy saga has inspired some wild conspiracy theories. Some found his positive outlook too pure to be true, questioning if he was some sort of plant designed to engage in guerilla marketing tactics for the brands, people, or even states that he was posting about. Others thought the anonymous Freddy was some sort of social experiment designed to play out in front of ******* ds of social media followers.

Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis have been indicted in a federal sports-betting case that prosecutors say involved inside information, player prop bets and alleged manipulation of Beasley’s own NBA performance.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York announced Monday that Beasley, Davis, current NBA player agent Paolo Zamorano and three other defendants were charged with wire fraud conspiracy, bribery in sporting contests, honest services wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy.
Federal prosecutors said the defendants allegedly used non-public information about Beasley’s planned performance to place fraudulent wagers worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The charges are allegations. Prosecutors said all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The indictment alleges that Beasley, then playing for the Milwaukee Bucks, agreed with Davis before certain 2024 games that he would underperform or overperform in specific statistical categories. Prosecutors said Davis then passed that non-public information to other alleged co-conspirators so they could place bets tied to Beasley’s player props.

The 49ers have considered relocation to a new practice facility.
Let the jokes and conspiracy talks fly, but San Francisco isn't exploring a new practice site for those ******* umed reasons of a nearby electrical substation causing injuries to players.
49ers CEO Al Guido said in an interview with The Athletic's Vic Tafur that San Francisco can spend as much money as it wants on coaches and support staff for players, as well as renovation of the team’s facilities
"You want to give yourself the best hand," Guido said.
Tafur reported that the San Francisco is "exploring a possible nearby relocation" because the team is running out of ******* e at Levi’s Stadium and neighboring land.
