Lia Godfrey scored the lone goal as the San Diego Wave upset the Washington Spirit 1-0 on Sunday.
In other National Women's Soccer League matches, the Utah Royals crushed the Portland Thorns 5-1, and and the Boston Legacy played to 1-1 draw with the Denver Summit.
Off a turnover, second half substitute Trinity Byars drew multiple defenders to her before the ball found its way to Godfrey. She got to the ball before goalkeeper Sandy MacIver and slotted it home in the 60th minute for the Wave (10-6-2).

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Former Clemson forward RJ Godfrey has committed to Arizona, potentially filling the biggest hole in coach Tommy Lloyd's roster.
Godfrey announced his decision on Instagram Sunday, positing "Committed" with a photo of him in an Arizona jersey.
Godfrey averaged 12.0 points and 5.3 rebounds in his return to Clemson last season after a year at Georgia. He played his first two seasons at Clemson in backup roles.
Arizona went to the Final Four for the first time in 30 years last season and lost several key players from that team, including bruising power forward Tobe Awaka. Southwest DeKalb confirmed in a social media post that William "Buck" Godfrey died.
Godfrey's daughter also confirmed his death to Channel 2's Karyn Greer Saturday night.
He became a three-time hall-of-famer — Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, Georgia High School **** ociation Hall of Fame, and Southwest DeKalb Hall of Fame — for his lengthy, successful career as head football coach at Southwest DeKalb.
Godfrey's tenure started in 1983 and concluded in 2012. During this time, the football team only missed making the playoff three of the 30 years.

A former Georgia Bulldogs basketball forward has sued the NCAA for more eligibility. Former Georgia and Clemson forward RJ Godfrey is part of a lawsuit against the NCAA filed July 9 to gain a fifth year of eligibility, according to Derrian Carter of Greenville News. If his lawsuit is successful, he will more than likely be looking for a new transfer destination.
Carter wrote that in the complaint, 16 players, including Godfrey, argued that the NCAA "unfairly" limited the number of games those athletes can participate in during their five-year eligibility window and "unjustifiably (restrained)" their ability to earn money through name, image and likeness (NIL).
The group is seeking an immediate injunctive relief that will allow them to sign scholarship and revenue-sharing agreements with the schools, along with third-party agreements for NIL compensation to play in the 2026-27 season. This comes from the NCAA approving a change to its eligibility rules on June 23, giving all athletes five years of eligibility over five seasons instead of five years to play four seasons.
Under the new rules, there will be no more redshirts, and waivers will only be granted in the case of pregnancy, military service or religious missions. However, no athlete who has already played four seasons, like RJ Godfrey, didn't get an extra season, according to the rule.
Godfrey started out his collegiate career at Clemson, where he played for two seasons. He transferred to the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2024 offseason, where he racked up 6.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.0 ******* ists per game. He transferred back to the Clemson Tigers in 2025, where he scored 12.0 points and earned 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 ******* ists per game.

FIRST ON FOX: A far-left "Squad" Democrat is facing scrutiny after spending thousands of dollars in donor cash at lavish hotels nearly 2,000 miles away from her home district, a Fox News Digital review of FEC records found.
"Squad" Rep. Ilhan Omar's, D-Minn., campaign dropped over $6K on high-end hotels and private transportation between April and June, including payments to a Ritz-Carlton resort in Palm Springs, a hotel with sweeping views from the Hollywood Sign to downtown Los Angeles, and a luxury stay in the heart of Times Square, the congresswoman's latest financial filings show.
The payments, covering April 1 through June 30, included $2,131.90 to W New York in Times Square, $1,613.23 to The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood, $1,143 to Blacklane Transportation, $926.80 to Ace Hotel & Swim Club Palm Springs and $682.41 to the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.
Overall, the campaign reported more than $28,000 in travel expenses and more than $23,000 in food, beverage and catering expenses during the three-month filing period.

Derek McInnes refused to be drawn on links with a move for Scotland midfielder Lewis Ferguson but indicated "there's still more work to do" after Rangers made five signings this summer.
Lawrence Shankland was recruited from Hearts before McInnes was appointed Rangers manager and Ben Godfrey, Ross McCrorie, Dan Neil and Ivor Pandur have arrived since.
McInnes has been credited with an interest in bringing Bologna captain Ferguson, whom he worked with Aberdeen, to Ibrox.
"All I want to do is bring players of a high level, technical level, and ability to play for Rangers," he told Sky Sports.
"Obviously, there are a number of players that have been linked with us that do possess that, so I think it would be wrong for me to speak about any player individually.

Are the Big Ten and SEC under attack? That is what it looked like on Wednesday at the Senate hearing for the Protect College Sports Act. One thing that was made very clear was the that parts of the bill that are aimed directly at the SEC and the Big Ten are not going to be changed. Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey discuss the hearing and what the fallout may be. Could this be another nudge for the Big Ten and SEC to separate from the NCAA?
Then, the guys discuss another prominent figure who was at Wednesday's hearing. Notre Dame Athletic Director Pete Bevacqua. Bevacqua openly spoke about the idea of a super league and what that would actually look like. He discussed how the pooling of rights would really only involve the top brand-name programs getting together and the schedules would be stacked with huge matchups. Andy and Ross discuss the enticing aspect of this and what would happen in the world of this specific type of super league.

Bevacqua openly spoke about the idea of a super league and what that would actually look like. He discussed how the pooling of rights would really only involve the top brand-name programs getting together and the schedules would be stacked with huge matchups. Later, the guys shift to the feud between Texas and Texas Tech. Recently, Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian called out Texas Tech's weak schedule. Tech responded by offering to buy out both teams' Week 1 opponents so they could play each other. Texas did not accept this offer. As a response, Texas Tech Head Coach Joey McGuire called Texas scared and said in 2027 and 2028 they will be scheduling a big non-conference opponent.
