Knox College will welcome nearly 60 competitive Scrabble players to Galesburg for a three-day, rated tournament over Labor Day weekend, bringing participants from around the world to campus before students return for the academic term.
The Midwest Showdown Scrabble tournament will be held Sept. 5-7 in the Lincoln Room at Knox College, according to a community announcement. Organized by Galesburg Scrabble, the event marks the fifth officially sanctioned Scrabble tournament hosted in Galesburg and the first held at Knox College.
Galesburg Scrabble meets from 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday at Galesburg Public Library. Mayor Peter Schwartzman and tournament co-director Darla Krejci helped bring the event to the city and serve as tournament directors.

Gogel, who plays on the PGA Tour Champions, placed multiple bets on PGA Tour events in 2024 and 2025. NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya has become the third player to be officially sanctioned during the ongoing second Test against India in Colombo, adding another disciplinary flashpoint to a match that had already been marred by the ugly confrontation between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando.
Jayasuriya was on Tuesday handed an official reprimand and one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second day's play of the Colombo Test.
The left-arm spinner was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to the "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match".
It was Jayasuriya's first offence in a 24-month period, the ICC said.
"Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya has become the third player to be sanctioned for an incident during the second ICC World Test Championship contest against India after he was hit with an official reprimand following his dismissal in his side's first innings," the ICC said in a statement.
The incident involving Jayasuriya occurred with the final delivery of the second day's play on Monday.
The Sri Lanka spinner was adjudged leg-before wicket off India spinner Manav Suthar. As he walked back towards the dressing room following his dismissal, Jayasuriya struck the boundary wedges with his bat.
The action led to the charge under Article 2.2, with Jayasuriya subsequently admitting the offence and accepting the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
As Jayasuriya accepted the sanction, there was no need for a formal hearing. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella.
The one demerit point has now been added to Jayasuriya's disciplinary record.

Just days before Bryson DeChambeau competes in his final LIV Golf event of the year, he announced on Monday that he will play at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa later this year.
DeChambeau posted a video on his social media channels alongside South Africa's greatest golfer, 90-year-old Gary Player, who serves as the tournament host.
"I am absolutely delighted that Bryson will compete in this year's Nedbank Golf Challenge," said Player. "The South African crowds loved watching him play earlier this year, and it is wonderful to welcome him back to our incredible country."

The Department of Homeland Security is investigating a nonprofit with connections to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for potentially providing donor funds to a sanctioned Palestinian group, the New York Post reported Friday.
The report says federal authorities are probing the U.K.-based organization known only as PFF, which has a roughly $100 million war chest used to support anti-Israel causes. It also may have contributed donor funds to Al-Haq, a Palestinian group sanctioned by the U.S., the Post reported.

After leading the Bulldogs to their first state championship appearance, St. Ursula quarterback Penelope Bolinger has been named the 2026 Bengals Girls Flag Football Player of the Year.
The Cincinnati Bengals honored Bolinger in a ceremony during halftime of their preseason opener on Aug. 13, 2026. She was surprised with a personalized Bengals jersey to commemorate the accomplishment. Bolinger was joined by the rest of the Bulldogs flag football team to celebrate.
Bolinger, a 2026 St. Ursula graduate, was one of the top quarterbacks in the state last season. She finished the year ranked No. 1 in Ohio by MaxPreps with 312 completions for 3,394 passing yards and 61 touchdowns. St. Ursula's team captain was also named to the Enquirer's all-city first team. The Bulldogs finished as runners-up in the Cincinnati regional tournament at Paycor Stadium, earning a trip to the Ohio High School Athletic ***** ociation's first sanctioned tournament.
Bolinger was a dedicated multisport athlete and leader at St. Ursula. She helped the Bulldogs win the Division II state volleyball ***** le in 2024 and committed to continue her volleyball career at Wittenberg University. Bolinger volunteered over 25 hours at youth flag football camps, mentoring fifth through eighth grade athletes and helping grow the nascent sport. She also graduated with a 3.8 GPA.
After the award presentation, Bolinger took the field one final time as St. Ursula competed against Mount Notre Dame and Badin during halftime. Memphis Depay has accused Corinthians of "unacceptable behaviour" and of breaching an agreement after the Brazilian club decided against renewing his contract.
The former Manchester United and Barcelona forward joined Corinthians on a two-year deal in 2024, but is now out of contract after he said the club withdrew a previously agreed extension.
"This renewal was explicitly agreed upon by the president as well as the sporting, legal and financial department. Some people decided however to breach this engagement," Depay wrote on social media.
"I didn't want this situation and always respected the club throughout the process, but now I am forced to react strongly in order to preserve my interests.
"In the upcoming days I will speak publicly but rest ***** ured that I will not leave this unacceptable behaviour unsanctioned."

On August 4, Tenable Holdings (NASDAQ:TENB) announced that it now covers every major AI platform and developer tool through its Tenable One platform, adding Google Gemini to a list that already included Anthropic Claude, OpenAI's ChatGPT Enterprise, and Microsoft Copilot. It is a bet that as companies rush to adopt AI, someone needs to watch where the risk is hiding, and Tenable wants to be the company holding that flashlight.
The scale of the problem Tenable is chasing is hard to ignore. The company said it detected 457 million AI-related security issues across more than 7,000 organizations, averaging 62,000 exposures per organization over 30 days. That is the kind of number that makes the case for exposure management on its own. Tenable One AI Exposure now extends discovery to every major LLM, all major Model Context Protocol deployments, and AI-native development tools like Cursor, Windsurf, and Trae, roughly doubling its coverage of sanctioned and shadow AI in one release. Beyond just finding the exposures, the platform lets security teams act on them directly, creating tickets in Jira or ServiceNow (NYSE:NOW), or firing off alerts through email, Slack, or Teams. That combination of visibility and Tenable's Hexa AI engine, which automates remediation tasks, is what the company is positioning as a full loop rather than another dashboard ****** ody checks.
The business results back up the demand story. Tenable One made up half of the company's new sales in the second quarter, evidence that customers are consolidating onto the full platform instead of buying individual point tools. President Donald Trump has always loved the idea of taking other countries' oil by force. And he claims to have accomplished that goal in Venezuela. The war there "lasted 48 minutes, and we paid for the war with what we've taken out many, many, many times. Where have you heard that before? You haven't heard that before. That's the old fashioned way, right? The old-fashioned way. To the victor belong the spoils," Trump told a crowd in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
That's not how other officials advertised U.S. oversight of Venezuelan oil. "We're the bankers, we don't direct the funds," Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent told the Economic Club of Minnesota in January. "This is the oil of the people of Venezuela," Secretary of State Marco Rubio testified to Congress a few weeks later, claiming that the U.S. government was making sure that "the needs of the Venezuelan people can be met" through oil sales.
In a way, they're both right. Shortly after the U.S. military operation in Venezuela on January 3, 2026, the two countries cut a deal to put sanctioned Venezuelan oil revenues under the control of the U.S. Treasury. The money still belongs to Venezuela on paper, but it's controlled by U.S. officials for all practical purposes—and trying to get any transparency on where it's going has been like pulling teeth.
The oil deal demonstrates the raw, unaccountable, and global power that economic sanctions give to the U.S. Treasury. Neither the American nor the Venezuelan people have a clear picture of what's going on. Tenable trades at a price-to-sales ratio of 3.7, well below its own historical average of 7.1 since going public in 2018, and far cheaper than Palo Alto Networks at 22.9 times sales or CrowdStrike at 38.1 times. But cheap multiples usually come with a reason attached. Tenable's revenue grew 8.6% year over year in the quarter, modest next to CrowdStrike's annual recurring revenue growth of 24% to $5.5 billion. Some of Tenable's profit turnaround came from cutting costs, including in growth-oriented areas like marketing, rather than from accelerating sales. That is a reasonable way to prove discipline, but it raises the question of whether faster growth is coming or whether the company is simply managing a slower-growth business more efficiently
The scale of the problem Tenable is chasing is hard to ignore. The company said it detected 457 million AI-related security issues across more than 7,000 organizations, averaging 62,000 exposures per organization over 30 days. That is the kind of number that makes the case for exposure management on its own. Tenable One AI Exposure now extends discovery to every major LLM, all major Model Context Protocol deployments, and AI-native development tools like Cursor, Windsurf, and Trae, roughly doubling its coverage of sanctioned and shadow AI in one release. Beyond just finding the exposures, the platform lets security teams act on them directly, creating tickets in Jira or ServiceNow (NYSE:NOW), or firing off alerts through email, Slack, or Teams. That combination of visibility and Tenable's Hexa AI engine, which automates remediation tasks, is what the company is positioning as a full loop rather than another dashboard ******* ody checks.
The business results back up the demand story. Tenable One made up half of the company's new sales in the second quarter, evidence that customers are consolidating onto the full platform instead of buying individual point tools. Second-quarter revenue came in at $268.5 million, ahead of management's guided range of $263 million to $266 million, while operating expenses fell to $195.8 million from $200.3 million a year earlier. That combination flipped a $14.7 million net loss into a $3.8 million net profit, and adjusted profit jumped 40% to $57.9 million. Barcelona star Ronald Araújo is all set to take his talents to the Premier League for the duration of the 2026/27 campaign. This comes after the Camp Nou brass, in something of a bolt from the blue, sanctioned a loan deal with their counterparts at Liverpool.
The information comes courtesy of market insider Fabrizio Romano, who first announced:
'Liverpool agree loan deal to sign Ronald Araujo from Barcelona. Verbal agreement club to club with Barça now approved by director Deco.'
Further details of the agreement between the parties, meanwhile, have since continued to trickle in.

Vitek made it perfectly clear when he spoke to the media after the first pre-season game against Wrexham in Helsinki nearly three weeks ago that he expected to leave, and wasn't bothered whether it was a permanent deal or a loan.
Well, it is permanent, to Championship side Middlesbrough, for a fee that could reach £14m.

NEW DELHI: Several former Pakistan cricketers could face disciplinary action from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after taking part in the Asian Legends League in Zambia without the required approval, according to ESPNcricinfo. More than a dozen retired Pakistan players signed up for the tournament. The controversy began after the Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU), the country's official governing body, said the event was not sanctioned, approved or endorsed by it.
The PCB said it has taken "serious notice" of the participation of former Pakistan cricketers in the tournament.
Players found to have violated the rules could be banned for two years from receiving a PCB No Objection Certificate (NOC) to participate in approved overseas leagues or cricket events.
They could also be declared ineligible for any cricketing, coaching, consultancy, mentoring or other roles with the PCB and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for two years.
"In light of the above, the following disciplinary measures will be taken on individuals found to have participated in the said unsanctioned event without obtaining the requisite approvals from the PCB," the PCB statement said. "A ban of two years from the issuance of any PCB No Objection Certificate (NOC) for participation in approved overseas cricket leagues or events. [And] Ineligibility for any cricketing, coaching, consultancy, mentoring and/or other ******* ignments with the PCB and the PSL for a period of two years."
According to ESPNcricinfo, Mohammad Hafeez, Sohail Tanvir and Umar Akmal travelled to Lusaka after signing up for the league. However, they chose not to play after learning that the required ICC approvals had not been received.
Several other former Pakistan cricketers are believed to have participated in the tournament.
The PCB said all current and former Pakistan cricketers must obtain the required approvals before taking part in overseas cricket events.
"The PCB remains fully committed to upholding the ICC regulations and safeguarding the integrity and governance of the game," the PCB statement said.
"The board reiterates that all current and former cricketers seeking to participate in overseas cricket events requiring PCB clearance must obtain the necessary approvals and NOCs prior to participation," it said.
