A sanctioned tanker loaded with crude is leaving a growing trail of oil in protected waters off the coast of Oman, according to newly reviewed satellite images, as experts warn the stranded vessel could break apart during the region's rough monsoon season.
Satellite images reviewed by The ****** ociated Press show an oil sheen covering roughly 20 square kilometers, or about 8 square miles, around Dhofar's Qibliyah Island, part of Oman's protected Hallaniyat Islands. Dark patches of crude have also reached the shoreline. Experts say the leak has worsened in recent days, fueling fears that rough weather could trigger a much larger spill.
"The last few days, the imagery indicates an increase in oil coming out, as the size of the sheen is growing," Wim Zwijnenburg, an environmental expert with the Dutch peace organization PAX, told the AP.

In the clip, which the WNBA said was "intended to be lighthearted" in a statement released Thursday, Reese and Bueckers appear to be making a $400 bet on the outcome of their Atlanta Dream-Dallas Wings matchup this week.

A federal judge granted a class-wide preliminary injunction Friday requiring the NCAA to make eligible athletes who graduated high school in 2022 and exhausted their four years of eligibility this spring.
Issued by Judge Charlotte Sweeney in the U.S. District Court of Colorado, the order follows multiple NCAA losses in state courts after athletes challenged the application of an age-based eligibility policy the organization adopted in June.
Colloquially known as the "five-for-five" rule, the change allows athletes five years to play five seasons starting with their full-time enrollment or the season after their 19th birthday, whichever comes first. The new policy eliminates redshirts, giving athletes the chance to play the maximum number of games in any of their eligible seasons without penalty.

Amnerican Flat Track has appointed NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace the Grand Marshal of the Caterpillar Jackpine Gypsies Short Track. The Flat Track round will be held August 10 at the South Dakota track, during the 86th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Wallace made his name in NASCAR racing, winning the 1989 NASCAR Cup Series and earning 55 career Cup Series wins. But he also rides, and will be hosting a charity ride Aug. 15 in Deadwood, S.D., with the proceeds supporting the NASCAR Foundation and Special Olympics of South Dakota.

CUMBERLAND – What is now a shopping plaza that includes a Stop & Shop and a McDonald's holds a noted place in American auto racing history: It is the site of the first sanctioned stock car race in the United States outside the South.
Not only would the first stock car races in the North be held in ***** berland, but the national championship would be decided there.
On Oct. 26, 1947, Fonty Flock, of Atlanta, won the national championship race on the one-third-mile, high-banked, paved oval track of the Lonsdale Sports Arena off Mendon Road on the bank of the Blackstone River, just downstream from Pratt Dam.
A crowd of 18,000 watched the seven races that Sunday afternoon, part of a program sanctioned by National Stock Car Circuit head Bill France, who, a couple of months later, would become head of the newly formed NASCAR, the governing body of stock car auto racing.
Only days before the history-making auto races, Lonsdale Sports Arena made history in another sport: The bowl-shaped arena hosted 32,000 spectators in what was the largest football crowd ever in Rhode Island at that time, as Cranston High School beat La Salle Academy, 20-2. The huge crowd snarled traffic for hours in the area.

Shin started the second round with a bogey and shrugged it off with six birdies, including on her final hole, for a 5-under 67. She's at 11 under overall.

In March, Spurlock (whose first name is ******* ounced Destiny) became the first Black woman to compete in a NASCAR-sanctioned series when she raced in the ARCA Menards Series East at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina. After doing two races in the East series, Spurlock made it to the premier ARCA series in April, when she finished 10th at Kansas Speedway.
Less than a year after Spurlock raced in her second NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle race at IRP, she’ll return to the track, but in a stock car this time.
“To be able to know that I raced over there on the drag strip and now I'm over here on the circle track,” Spurlock told IndyStar, “that means so much to me because I did not know that this would happen so fast within a year’s time.”
Most of Spurlock’s experience before this year came in motorcycle drag racing. She has also raced arena carts and drove in Skip Barber’s Formula 4 series in 2023.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Steven Fisk outlasted Taylor Pendrith in the ISCO Championship on Sunday for his second PGA Tour **** le, two-putting for par on the third hole of a playoff.
Fisk closed with a 3-under 67 in cloudy and breezy conditions at Hurstbourne Country Club to match Pendrith at 16-under 264.
Played opposite the Scottish Open, the event was sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the European tour. The 29-year-old Fisk gets into the PGA Championship but not the Masters next year. Last October, he won the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi for his first PGA Tour **** le.
"Kind of feel like all the work I've been putting in paid off," Fisk said. "It's been a frustrating year trying to back up that first win. I've showed some pretty good signs of some solid golf, but haven't really had that opportunity to win a golf tournament that I've been kind of craving. It was unbelievable to get it done again."
Pendrith finished with a 65. The 35-year-old Canadian was trying to win for the second time on the tour.

MOSCOW, July 10 (Reuters) - The Kremlin said on Friday that Russia was in touch with Turkey about the fate of Russian S-400 missile systems which Ankara owns after a news outlet reported that Turkey was poised to transfer the air defence missiles to an unnamed Gulf country.
Turkish news outlet Hurriyet reported earlier on Friday that Turkey could announce it would resell the S-400s to one of the Gulf nations as soon as today in order to persuade the United States to lift sanctions on Ankara.
In 2020, the U.S. sanctioned fellow NATO member Turkey over the purchase of the S-400s and removed it from a procurement and manufacturing programme for F-35 fighter jets which Ankara wanted to be involved in.
Asked on Friday about the media report and if Turkey had sought Russia's permission to go ahead with the alleged deal, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said:
"I can say one thing here: this is an extremely sensitive issue. However, we have been in contact with the Turkish side on this matter, and we will continue to maintain contact with them on this issue."

Is the PGA Tour about to have a national-open dilemma?
One of the glaring concerns after the Tour rolled out its two-track model for 2028 is that the national opens currently on the Tour’s schedule – RBC Canadian Open, Genesis Scottish Open and to a less extent, VidantaWorld Mexico Open – risk losing even more of their openness.
The Tour’s plan calls for Track 1 events, part of the new Championship Series, to feature 120-player, all-exempt fields, meaning no sponsor exemptions or open qualifiers. Track 1 members, approximately 130 of them, will also be prohibited from competing in Track 2, or Challenger, events, which figure to still include sponsor invites and qualifiers among their 130- to 144-player fields.
While no tournaments have been tabbed as either track, the national opens would stand to lose either way. If the Canadian Open, for example, is a Track 2 event, it wouldn’t feature any of the best 130 players on the PGA Tour, including homegrown stars like Corey Conners and Nick Taylor. And if the Canadian is Track 1, it will shut out many Canadian players, including young talents who have gotten opportunities to compete for their national championship.
Add in the Scottish currently being a co-sanctioned tournament with the DP World Tour, and things get more complicated. This year’s Scottish field features six Scots among dozens of European-circuit regulars; a move under the Tour’s new model would drastically alter the tournament’s fabric.

FIFA just suspended two members of U.S. men's soccer team staff. The suspension came after the U.S. Round of 32 game against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The suspensions were placed on U.S. team manager Sam Zapatka, and Frank Pannell, vice president of security of the U.S. Soccer Federation. FIFA did not explain why were they sanctioned.
According to sources close to the team, the sanctions were placed because of not adhering to the match protocols, including people standing in areas that they were not allowed, ESPN reported.
The U.S. Soccer Federation said it was not related to Folarin Balogun's red card suspension.
However, Front Office Sports reported that the cause may have been that Balogun went back to the field to celebrate with his teammates after having gotten a red card in the second half of the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the rules, once a player gets a red card, they cannot go back to the pitch.

CHICAGO (AP) — Boston Red Sox outfielder Nate Eaton's initial three-game suspension for his actions during a dugout-clearing altercation with Washington last week has been reduced to two games.
The Red Sox announced the reduced penalty on Tuesday and said that Eaton would begin serving his suspension against the White Sox that night in the first of a three-game series in Chicago.
Eaton was sanctioned after scuffling with Nationals pitcher Miles Mikolas during a game in Boston on June 30. That encounter, which resulted in both players' ejection, occurred after Willson Contreras objected to comments made by pitcher Cade Cavalli and charged the mound, throwing his helmet.
Cavalli and Contreras each were initially suspended seven games and both appealed, as did Eaton and Mikolas, who was suspended five games.
Cavalli has accepted a reduced suspension of five games, while Eaton accepted the one-game reduction to his punishment. Decisions on appeals by Contreras and Mikolas were still pending Tuesday, and Contreras was in the lineup against the White Sox after also learning that he'd been selected as an All-Star replacement for Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Chelsea say they have been “proactive and transparent” in their dealings with UEFA after they were fined for breaching financial regulations.
The Blues were one of four Premier League clubs sanctioned by the sporting body for having a squad cost ratio above 70 per cent, alongside Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
The Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) imposed a £2.6 million (€3m) fine on the club, although £1.7m (€2m) of the fine has been suspended as part of a settlement agreement.
Chelsea were slapped with a whopping £27m (€31m) fine last year after failing to comply with UEFA’s squad cost ratio (then 80 per cent) and football earnings rule. They entered into a stringent compliance agreement with the CFCB, requiring them to reduce their costs. It also restricted them from registering new players to their A list for UEFA competitions unless they have a positive transfer balance, i.e. the cost of signing players does not exceed what they bring in from sales.
The west London outfit were warned that further breaches could result in up to £52m (€60m) in additional fines, but UEFA noted in Tuesday’s announcement that “the CFCB First Chamber took into consideration the improving trend in their squad cost ratio between 2024 and 2025”.

LONDON (AP) — Serena Williams took aim at tennis' anti-doping system on Sunday ahead of her Wimbledon return, calling the system “unprofessional” and “unreasonable.”
The 44-year-old Williams returned to the testing pool before she could announce her comeback to professional tennis and was asked Sunday about her experiences complying with the rules.
“It’s grueling. They changed the rules now. I didn’t know some of the rules. So apparently if you miss a test outside of your window, it still counts as missed. I’m like, I guess I can’t go pick up my kids,” said the seven-time Wimbledon champion, a mother of two. “It’s unprofessional. I hate it. I think it’s necessary, but I think a lot of the stuff, if I want to go places outside of my window, I should be able to go without having it count as a missed test.”
Williams’ first match at the grass-court Grand Slam since 2022 will take place Tuesday when she faces Maya Joint as part of her tennis comeback. She returned to the sport this month in a doubles match at the Queen’s Club grass-court tournament.

Rahm and Hatton are eligible to compete in the co-sanctioned event because each are DP World Tour members, with Rahm reaching a conditional release agreement with the European circuit back in May.

2023 Wimbledon singles champion Marketa Vondrousova has been suspended from tennis for four years for refusing an anti-doping test.
An independent tribunal concluded that there was “no compelling justification” for the 26-year-old Czech to have not submitted a sample when notified by a doping control officer, out of competition and at her home, on the night of December 3, 2025.
Vondrousova is not allowed to play in, coach at, or attend any events organised or sanctioned by the ITF, WTA, ATP, the Grand Slams, or any national ****** ociation until 21 June 2030.

“Unpredictable testing is an essential tool to protect clean sport.
An independent tribunal concluded that there was “no compelling justification” for the 26-year-old Czech to have not submitted a sample when notified by a doping control officer, out of competition and at her home, on the night of December 3, 2025.
Vondrousova is not allowed to play in, coach at, or attend any events organised or sanctioned by the ITF, WTA, ATP, the Grand Slams, or any national ****** ociation until 21 June 2030.
