New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani defended a controversial city map highlighting immigrant enclaves Friday, saying it was never intended to be comprehensive and promising updates after criticism over the omission of Little Italy.
In response to Fox News Digital's request for comment, the Mayor's Office pointed to remarks Mamdani made during an unrelated press conference Friday, where he said the map was created under the previous administration in 2023.
"This map was initially created by the prior administration in 2023, and when we inherited it, we added a few additional neighborhoods," Mamdani said. "It's clearly not an exhaustive list of the more than 200 ethnic communities that call our city home, and we're going to be making additional changes in the future to reflect that and that includes Little Italy."

The "New York City Immigrant Enclaves" map resurfaced this week on social media after users noted it omitted Little Italy, as well as Jewish and Irish neighborhoods, despite highlighting 30 immigrant communities across the five boroughs. The map is part of the city's Neighborhood Passport campaign tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) directed state officials on Tuesday to "immediately" launch an investigation into a state hospital for allegedly seeking to profit from "birth tourism" practices.
Abbott said in a letter to Stephanie Muth, the executive commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, that Mission Regional Medical Center has advertised "BIRTH PACKAGES IN SOUTH TEXAS" in foreign countries "in an apparent effort to profit from securing United States citizenship for their children."
"Birth tourism is an illegal practice that exploits the extraordinary hospitality that the United States and Texas offer to millions of foreign travelers each year," Abbott said in a statement.
"Thousands of foreign travelers come to the United States under false pretenses to give birth and secure citizenship for their children," the Texas governor continued. "HHSC must investigate the hospital, a facility it regulates, for any violations of state law and contractual obligations."
A spokesperson for Mission Regional Medical Center said in a statement that the hospital does "not support or facilitate any unlawful activity" and is committed to complying with "all applicable federal and state laws and regulations."

The Microsoft co-founder maintained in the voluntary interview, which took place on Capitol Hill earlier this month, that his three-year relationship with the convicted ****** offender was strictly professional and that he never witnessed or participated in any ****** ual misconduct.
But Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia pointed out that the panel's investigation has shown that some of Epstein's employees were also abused by the late financier, making it difficult for Gates to rule out that he was never around any of Epstein's victims.
"That's a very good point," said Gates, who acknowledged he saw some of Epstein's female employees at the end of a meeting on one of Epstein's planes. He added, "I may have been in the presence of victims."
As part of the oversight committee's ongoing probe, the panel sought Gates' testimony after the release of additional Epstein files by the Justice Department this year raised questions about his ties to the late convicted ****** offender.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The tanker disabled by the American military while trying to run the U.S. blockade of Iran had dismissed nearly 60 verbal warnings as well as other shows of force before being fired upon, a U.S. official told The ****** ociated Press.
The ship's crew also ignored eight shows of force by military aircraft that included fired flares and flyovers, as well as two final warnings before being fired upon Wednesday, according to the official, who was not authorized to publicly discuss the sensitive matter and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Earlier in the week, the U.S. military said an American aircraft fired "precision munitions" into the engine room of the Palau-flagged vessel M/T Settebello. The incident in the Gulf of Oman killed three Indian sailors, Indian officials said.
The U.S. official described the vessel as a shadow fleet ship that has been used to illegally transfer Iranian oil and evade sanctions and was seen trying to break the blockade multiple times. The official noted that U.S. forces communicated with the ship dozens of times over two weeks before the day when the ship was disabled.
In a statement, U.S. Central Command said the military gave the crew 15 minutes to get out of the engine room before the shots were fired that disabled the ship.

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) — A cholera outbreak in northeastern Nigeria has killed 74 people and infected more than 7,000 others since it started in early May, medical charity Doctors Without Borders said Tuesday.
The outbreak, reported in 14 of Borno state's 27 local governments, is unfolding in communities with health systems made fragile by nearly two decades of violent extremism from the Boko Haram insurgent group.
The illness is endemic and seasonal in the country, where only 14% of Nigeria's population of more than 200 million have access to safely managed drinking water supply services, according to government data from 2020.
The situation is sometimes worse in Borno, both in Maiduguri, the state's capital, which is densely populated, and in remote communities with poor sanitation and hygiene due in part to being out of the close reach of health authorities.
The medical group said that it has treated 7,439 cholera patients at its facilities, representing an average of 185 admissions per day. It said that it recorded 500 patients last week on Friday, a single-day record in the outbreak.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President JD Vance has added a chicken coop to his residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory, along with a dozen baby chicks whose new henhouse is designed to look like the Victorian home where the second family lives.
The coop, which features a round turret and faux slate roof, was donated by Carolina Coops, a North Carolina company that advertises "premium" coops that have amassed a social media following. The coop was custom-built for the residence and completed May 29, the company's owner and founder said.
"It's something I thought was amazing to do for this country," Matthew DuBoise said in an interview. "It's a place of history and a place of significance."
The coop was built without taxpayer money, according to a person familiar with the project who spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss it publicly. The residence hosted a family event over the weekend where local 4-H students taught other kids about the newly installed coup, the person said.
Vice presidents since 1977 have lived on the grounds of the 72-acre Naval Observatory, and many have left their own imprint on the property. Joe Biden added a heritage garden, Mike Pence's wife, Karen, contributed beehives, and Kamala Harris' updates included pink wallpaper in the house's library. A heated swimming pool on the property was added by Dan Quayle in 1991.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) on Tuesday said it was “wrong” for Democrats to attempt to eliminate the filibuster during the Biden administration and argued eradicating the procedure would lead to “profound ramifications” for the U.S.
“One thing I was absolutely wrong on — and I’ve been really … very open talking about how wrong I am — is that in my cycle, in ’22, we were running to eliminate the filibuster. And we were so wrong, so wrong about that,” Fetterman said during an appearance on Katie Miller’s podcast.
“And now, thankfully … I think Sen. Sinema and Manchin were vindicated by this,” he added, referring to former Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) and Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.)
In 2022, Sinema and Manchin, both former Democrats, voted with the Republican party to block Democrats to preserve the 60-vote threshold.
At the time, Fetterman was against their effort and said the filibuster was blocking Democrats from enacting legislation backed by their constituents.
