Charlie Woods got off to a slow start at the Junior PGA Championship on Tuesday.
The 17-year-old son of Tiger Woods shot 3-over 75 at Fields Ranch East in Frisco, Texas in the opening round, seven strokes off the lead and tied for 53rd.
Woods bogeyed the first and fourth holes before making his first birdie of the day at the seventh hole. He made a double bogey at the ninth to tour the front nine in 39. On the back nine, Woods traded birdies at Nos. 15 and 18 with bogeys at Nos. 14 and 16.
Woods finished T-9 at the Junior PGA last year at Purdue University's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, one of the few tournaments his famous father never won. Tiger finished runner-up in 1990.
Conditions were difficult on Tuesday, including 100-degree heat, at the course that will play host to the PGA Championship next May. Only 16 players in the field of 156 managed to break par on a difficult day in which 29 players shot 80 or higher. No one played better than Kailer Stone of Alameda, Calif., who birdied three of the final four holes to shoot 4-under 68 and claim the lead.

The 33-year-old from South Korea put down 12 birdies in his near-record round, shooting up the leaderboard to 14 under. Round 1 leader Ben Kohles enters Round 3 three strokes back, while Chandler Phillips, Michael Brennan and Emiliano Grillo made late pushes to get into contention.
PGA Tour rookie Jackson Koivun continued his impressive start, entering the third round four shots behind Kim. Billy Horschel, Troy Merritt and Zac Blair come in within five strokes of the lead, while Scottie Scheffler slipped up on the back nine Friday before wrapping with a birdie to enter moving day at 7 under. Gary Woodland and Hideki Matsuyama, who rallied after entering the second round below the cut line, also could make some noise today.

Earlier this season Xander Schauffele's consecutive cuts made streak ended at 72. A couple of weeks ago, Scottie Scheffler was the PGA Tour active leader at 78 when that ended at the Scottish Open. A week later at the British, Matt Fitzpatrick at 28 was the leader in the category but that was short-lived as he missed the weekend.
Heading into the 3M Open, Hideki Matsuyama was the active leader with 28 straight made cuts. Through 27 holes at TPC Twin Cities, the ***** anese start was 2 under overall and on the wrong side of the projected cut of 3 under, putting him in danger of being the latest cuts made leader to come up short.
But he flipped the script after making birdies on Nos. 10, 12, 13 and 14. His 2 on the par-3 13th also won the fans over as there was a promotion on Friday whereby beers would be half-price at the concession stand near the 13th hole for 10 minutes after any birdie. It didn't take long for a long line to form.
What about those on the wrong side of the cut?
With three events left before the FedEx Cup Playoffs, time is running out for those scrambling to get into the top 70. That's the game within the game among those also more pressing to play the weekend.

It was a rare display of emotion for Miles Russell.
Junior golf's undisputed No. 1 for almost three years, Russell has collected trophy after trophy with a calm, quiet confidence. But on Friday afternoon at Saucon Valley Country Club, the 17-year-old Russell couldn't help but unleash a fist pump after a go-ahead, chip-in eagle on the 13th hole.
Russell carded two eagles and five birdies in a 2-and-1 victory over incoming Vanderbilt freshman Tyler Mawhinney to advance to Saturday's 36-hole final of the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Mawhinney is a highly decorated prospect in his own right at No. 102 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and with a USGA ***** le already to his name (2025 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball). He entered Friday's bout with Russell, the world's seventh-ranked amateur, having played the par-3 in 8 under for the week. He was 7 under in 17 holes against Russell and still lost.
The turning point came at the drivable, par-4 13th, where both players went for the green and found the gnarly greenside rough. Mawhinney hit his chip to 5 feet before Russell popped his ball out of the rough and just onto the putting surface, then watched as it motored right into the cup.

Jul. 24---- Brady Madsen broke the
course record on July 14.
He carded an 11-under-par 61 with 10 birdies, an eagle and one bogey.
The record round is good timing for the 27-year-old from Raymond.
Madsen, who turned pro in 2022 after playing men's golf at Florida Gulf Coast and Winona State, is set to defend his win in the Marcus Construction Pro-Am at 1 p.m. Monday at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

Bridget Boczar was back on familiar ground, and she took advantage.
Boczar, of Canton, won the 110th Michigan Women's Amateur Championship on Friday at Katke Cousins Golf Course on the campus of Oakland University, where Boczar played the first two years of her collegiate career. Boczar held off Macomb's Lauren Timpf, 2-up, in the championship match, sealing the ******* le with a 10-footer for birdie on the 18th hole.
"I was able to be confident and come out here and have some fun," said Boczar, 22. "It was just an awesome week."
Boczar, who finished her college career at Baylor University and will graduate in December, had two tight matches Friday, beating Elise Fennell of Central Michigan and Kentwood, 1-up, in Friday's morning semifinal match.
In the afternoon championship match, Boczar and Timpf traded momentum swings, with neither player holding more than a 1-up lead until the final hole. Timpf made birdies at Nos. 11 and 12 to go 1 up, before Boczar won the 13th hole with a pair and the 14th with a birdie to retake the lead. The two traded pars on the next three holes, before Boczar sealed the deal on the 18th.

TROON, Scotland — South Korea's Jenny Shin led the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open by five strokes after two rounds at Dundonald Links on Friday.
Shin started the second round with a bogey and shrugged it off with six birdies, including on her final hole, for a 5-under 67. She's at 11 under overall.
"Tried really hard not to make any three-putts," Shin said.
Shin was co-leader with American Lauren Coughlin on 6 under after day one of the tournament co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour. But Coughlin, who won the Aramco Championship in April and the Scottish Open in 2024, hit 2 over on Friday and dropped to 4 under and a tie for fourth with ****** an's Erika Hara.
The closest to Shin was German golfer Esther Henseleit, who carded 4-under 68 with two birdies and an eagle.

Scottie Scheffler got off to a really good start at the 3M Open on Thursday.
Scheffler posted an opening round of six-under 65 and he is currently sitting just one stroke adrift of the leader, Emiliano Grillo.
The world number one made six birdies and 12 pars during his opening round at TPC Twin Cities.
Scottie Scheffler has experienced a tough season on the PGA Tour in 2026, and he will be eager to record his second win of the year this week.
He played some really solid golf on day one of the 3M Open and he will be more than happy with his day's work.

Jul. 22—STILLWATER, Minn. — Isaac Ahn steadily got better as the 123rd Minnesota Golf ****** ociation State Amateur Championship went along this week at StoneBridge Golf Club.
And Ahn's improvements were nearly enough to land him the top spot.
After opening the tournament with an even-par 72 on Monday, the former Rochester Mayo star shot a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to jump from 15th place to fifth.
That's where Ahn finished the championship, after shooting a 2-under-par 70 in Wednesday's final round, good for a 54-hole total of 3-under-par 213 and a tie for fifth place with second-round leader and former Cretin-Derham Hall star Sam Udovich.
Udovich, who'll be a sophomore at Texas Christian University in the fall, opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 69 to sit at 6-under through 36 holes. He shot 3-over on the front on Wednesday and couldn't find the birdies he needed down the stretch to climb back into ****** le contention.

Eli Anema and Katie Wold each won their second Sioux Falls Golf City Championship on Saturday, June 28, at Prairie Green Golf Course. Both golfers took different paths to their victories and are at very different points of their competitive careers.
The first day of competition, Friday, June 27, was at Elmwood Golf Course, and the second day was at Prairie Green.
Anema is entering his junior year at Indiana Wesleyan University, an NAIA program. He shot a two-over 74 on both days to win the Men's Championship Flight, beating Ryan Ames by six strokes.
Wold trailed by two strokes heading into the second day, then ripped off an 82 to win the tournament by eight strokes.
Anema became the first-ever back-to-back Sioux Falls Golf Men's City Champion with his 2026 win. The Sioux Falls Christian alum dominated both courses, recording five birdies at Elmwood and two, including one on 18, at Prairie Green.

ATTICA—Pendleton Heights junior Zach Zoeller continued his recent hot streak with a victory Monday on the Indiana Golf ****** ociation's Junior tour.
Zoeller defeated Zach Kinzer from Fishers on the second playoff hole to earn a victory at Harrison Hills after the pair had finished 36 holes deadlocked at 146 (+2).
The 2026 Madison County medalist, who had built on his strong showing at the IHSAA State finals last month with runner-up and fourth-place finishes in his last two outings, was tied with Jack Lantz from Fort Wayne after a one-under par 71 in the first round.
Kinzer was at even par after the first round.
Zoeller recorded four birdies in the first round and three more during an up-and-down second round. A clutch birdie on the par-three 17th hole drew him even with Kinzer, setting up the playoff.

Sofia Rivera of St. Augustine got off to a good start in the first round of the U.S. Junior Girls Amateur on July 13 at the Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
Riviera, the Florida Times-Union's high school girls player of the year in 2025, made six birdies and shot 3-under-par 69 to finish six shots behind leader Amelia Harris of Australia, who birdied her last six holes and shot 8-under 28 on the back nine. Riviera is tied for sixth.
Rivera birdied Nos. 2, 4 and 9 on the front. She swapped birdies at Nos. 10 and 12 with bogeys at Nos. 13 and 15, but closed with a birdie at the par-4 18th hole.
Rivera's caddie is her uncle, two-time PGA Tour winner Russell Knox.
Rivera will tee off at No. 10 at Old Chatham at 12:55 p.m. on July 14. She is three shots clear of the cut line to make match play. The top 64 players will advance on July 15.

An Englishman earned the final spot in the 154th Open Championship in Southport, England.
Joe Dean won the R&A's "Last Chance Qualifier" Monday at Royal Birkdale, shooting 2-under 68 to best 11 other players hoping to claim a berth in the season's final major.
Dean was one shot clear of fellow Englishman Andrew Wilson. South Africa's Aldrich Potgieter finished third at even par.
The qualifier was an innovative addition by the R&A to allow players who had come close in Final Qualifying or had performed well in significant amateur events, to have one more chance at getting into The Open.
Dean had one eagle, two birdies and two bogeys to earn a tee time at a home-country Open.

Steven Fisk rolled in a short par putt at the third playoff hole to top Taylor Pendrith and capture his second US PGA Tour ****** le at the ISCO Championship in Louisville, Kentucky, on Sunday.
Fisk got up and down for par from greenside bunkers at each of the first two playoff holes and sealed the win with a two-putt par as Canada's Pendrith made a bogey after finding a fairway bunker off the tee.
"It's what we play for," Fisk said. "I could give a ****** about finishing 60th in a golf tournament. This is what I want to do."
Pendrith matched the low round of the day with a five-under par 65 that put him first in the clubhouse on 16-under 264.
Fisk nabbed four birdies in a three-under 67 to join him and both parred the first playoff hole, where Fisk salvaged par from a greenside bunker as Pendrith two-putted from nine feet.

Matt Boldy is putting his Olympic gold medal to good use at the American Century Championship this week.
The 25-year-old Minnesota Wild star is enjoying an impressive showing in Lake Tahoe through two rounds, including showing off a stellar drive and impressive putting chops, but possibly the most creative thing Boldy has done this weekend is use his gold medal from the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympic Games as a ball marker.
The fans loved it, and the broadcast team loved it too.
"Well, Jimmy, if you had a gold medal, you'd probably use it as a ball marker as well."
Boldy is currently T-13 through 36 holes with 27 points under the modified Stableford format that the ACC uses. He carded an eagle on Edgewood Tahoe South's par-5 18th on Friday and has scored four birdies total.

This might be one of the stranger superstitions to uphold if William Mouw buys into what happened to his putting in the second round of the ISCO Championship on Friday.
Mouw, the tournament's defending champion, only made 50 feet of putts in Thursday's opening round and ranked 116th in the field in strokes gained on the greens. In search of some different mojo, he half-joked with his caddie that the flat stick was so cold that he was going to put it into boiling water.
Then … he actually did it, and the result was he rolled in 105 feet of putts, making five birdies on his front nine, and finished with a seven-under 63 at Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville, Ky., to sit solo sixth at nine under heading into the weekend.
"I put my putting in hot water last night and it stayed hot. I woke up with it hot out of the water and stayed hot all round. That was nice," Mouw said.
"I'm going to do it tonight, too," he added.

July 10 (UPI) -- Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler was even par through two rounds at the 2026 Scottish Open and is on track to miss is first cut in nearly four years.
Scheffler, who was 2-under through his first 18 holes, carded a 2-over 72 on Friday at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick. The projected cut is 2-under.
"I got off to a poor start," Scheffler told reporters. "Then, after that, I just didn't really hit it close enough to give myself a bunch of looks. That's how you shoot over par."
Scheffler made two birdies and four bogeys over his final 18 holes of the tournament. He made four birdies, including a run of three-consecutive, and two bogies in Thursday's opening round.
He is set to miss the cut at a tournament for the first time since the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship. His streak snapped at 78 consecutive made cuts.

EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — Top-ranked Nelly Korda's bid for a third straight major and fifth overall ended early when she missed the cut after the second round of the Evian Championship on Friday.
As Korda scrapped to stay in the tournament, English golfer Lottie Woad carded a 7-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead from overnight leader Aki Iwai of ****** an.
Korda had a poor opening round of 74 on Thursday and, although she improved with 69 on Friday, her 1-over total left her tied for 67th and she missed the cut by one stroke. She last missed a cut at the 2024 Women's PGA Championship.
Korda won the first two majors this season — the Chevron Championship and the U.S. Women's Open — but often struggles to find her best form at Evian and has never finished higher than eighth.
Woad's round featured eight birdies and a bogey and put her on 11 under overall at the midway point of the fourth of the five women's majors this year.

Japan's Aki Iwai carded a bogey-free 63 in the first round Thursday to build a two-shot lead at the Evian Championship in Evian-les-Bains, France.
Iwai, 24, teed off in the morning wave and birdied five of her last eight holes at the Evian Resort Golf Club to finish at 8 under par.
"I was able to have a good focus on my golf and stay committed. I prepared a lot around the green with chipping and putting. I was driving well, but honestly everything was good," Iwai said. "I like driver, so if I'm good and consistent with my driver (it helps). I made the good score. I like this course, it's similar to a course in ******* an."
France's Perrine Delacour fired a 6-under 65 and is alone in second place at the fourth of this season's five majors. She started on the back nine and eagled the par-5 15th hole to go with six birdies and two bogeys.
Five players are tied for third at 5 under, one shot ahead of a group of seven players.

Miles Russell finished strong on July 9 in the first round of the PGA Tour ISCO Championship in Louisville, Ky., with a pair of late birdies that got him well within striking distance of the projected cut line.
Russell, a 17-year-old amateur from Jacksonville Beach with veteran caddie Paul Tesori of St. Augustine at his side, overcame a double-bogey at the par-5 seventh hole and bogeys at the par-4 eighth and 11th of the Hurstbourne Country Club to play his final seven holes at 2-under with no additional bogeys to post a 1-over 71.
Russell finished in a tie for 97th, eight shots behind four past PGA Tour winners tied at 7-under 63: Lucas Glover, Steven Fisk, Stephan Jaeger and Troy Merritt.
Russell lagged behind his two playing partners, Ben James (65) and Jackson Koivun (67). The cut line at the start of the second round will be 1-under. Russell, James and Koivun will tee off No. 10 at 8:39 a.m.
After making a bogey on the fourth hole (Russell hit into the left greenside bunker, blasted out to 5 feet, and missed the par putt), he birdied No. 5 on a 37-foot putt.

EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — Aki Iwai shot an 8-under 63 for a two-stroke lead on Thursday in the first round of the Evian Championship, the fourth women's golf major of the season, as top-ranked Nelly Korda struggled.
The 24th-ranked Iwai had eight birdies and no dropped shots in the sun-splashed lakeside town that three weeks ago hosted the G7 summit of world leaders.
Japan's Iwai made birdies at three of the last four holes, including the par-5 18th, and led by two shots from Perrine Delacour, whose 6-under 65 included an eagle at the par-5 15th and a pair of bogeys toward the end of her round.
A group of five players with 5-under 66s included the winner of the Women's PGA Championship two weeks ago, Haeran Ryu, and world No. 5 Charley Hull, who started the week as a guest in the Royal Box at Wimbledon.
Hull had two early bogeys before making the turn at level par, then came home in just 31 shots capped by an eagle at the par-5 18th. Also on 5 under were Mao Saigo, Maja Stark and Jin Hee Im.

Rory McIlroy claimed a share of the early lead after an opening-round 65 at the Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club. Starting at the 10th, the 2023 champion's first nine was a mixed bag which began and ended with bogeys but had three birdies in between as he turned at one under.
But the 601-yard first played to his strengths as a 352-yard drive was followed by a four-iron to inside 19 feet for an eagle.
That should have kick-started a charge but he missed a three-foot birdie attempt at the par-3 third and a 14-footer at the next.
But he was on in two at the 575-yard seventh and two-putted from 61 feet to get to 4 under, tied the lead with a 16-foot putt from the fringe at the next and saved par with a brilliant, back-spinning bunker shot at the last.
"I thought for the most part, I played well. I felt like I drove the ball particularly well, and I started to see that at Shinnecock a couple weeks ago," said McIlroy. "It's a continuation of putting the ball in play and then once I do that I feel like I can attack courses and I can set up scoring opportunities.

NORTH BERWICK, Scotland (AP) — Rory McIlroy began getting into the mood for the final major of the year by taking advantage of the par 5s at The Renaissance Club for a 5-under 65, giving him a four-way share of the lead among the early starters Thursday in the Genesis Scottish Open.
Patrick Cantlay made a little noise in an otherwise quiet year for the American with five birdies in 10 holes and then a collection of tough par saves at the end that felt just as valuable. He also was at 65, along with Tom Kim and Bernd Wiesberger.
Brooks Koepka was among those one shot behind.
Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, was among those playing in the afternoon on a glorious summer day along the Firth of Forth.
McIlroy holed an 18-foot eagle putt on the par-5 first hole — he started his round on No. 10 — to go along with a pair of birdies on the other two par 5s at The Renaissance Club. That made his round and his scorecard feel a little better.

Only one golfer finished in red, and another dropped an ace to highlight the first day of the 120th Vermont Amateur at Ekwanok Country Club on Tuesday, July 7.
Alex Leonard, a 2021 Champlain Valley Union High School graduate, was the lone golfer to finish his opening round under par, firing a 69 to seize a one-stroke lead over 2024 Amateur champion Lucas Politano and Austin Giroux. Meanwhile, Nick Trottier holed the par 3 11th hole for the day's signature shot.
Evan Russell, a two-time Amateur winner, and Luke Russell are tied for fourth at 1-over. Garren Poirier, who won this tournament in 2020, and Bryan Smith, the 2016 champ, are tied for sixth along with Stephen Goodridge and Jay Zanleoni at 2-over.
Taylor Bellemare and Jacob Lowe share 10th through 18 holes at 3-over.
To sit atop the leaderboard, Leonard, who was a multi-sport athlete at CVU, drained three birdies to go along with two bogeys. He shot a front-9 34.

Padraig Harrington repeated as U.S. Senior Open champion, shooting a 4-under 66 on July 5 to defeat runner-up Stewart Cink by four strokes at Scioto Country Club in Upper Arlington.
Harrington, who also won the tournament in 2022 and 2025, began the day one stroke behind Cink but got off to a fast start with birdies on the first two holes. He finished with five birdies in the round and was 12 under for the tournament.
Harrington received the winner's share of $800,000. Cink, who shot a 71 on July 5 to finish at 8 under, received $432,000 for finishing second.
Behind Cink were George McNeill at 6 under, Ian Poulter at 5 under and Retief Goosen, Paul Stankowski and Jamie Donaldson at 4 under.

SILVIS, Ill. (AP) — Lucas Glover chipped in for eagle early and made a birdie late, his only two sub-par holes Saturday for a 2-under 69 that was just enough for him to share the lead with Lee Hodges in the John Deere Classic that now has plenty of possibilities.
Hodges had four birdies in a six-hole stretch on the back nine of the TPC Deere Run for a 67 to join Glover at 16-under 197 going into the final round.
Nine players were within four shots of the lead, a group that ranges from 50-year-old Zach Johnson to NCAA champion Preston Stout of Oklahoma State.
Glover's three-year exemption on the PGA Tour from winning twice in 2023 expires this year, and he began the season still recovering from labrum surgery.
"You pretty much know you've got to go low or you're not going to win," Glover said. "Everybody is going to have to be aggressive, so I've got to hit it a little better tomorrow to achieve the ultimate goal."

Here they come again.
A year after going head-to-head down the stretch during the final round of the 2025 U.S. Senior Open in Colorado, Stewart Cink and Padraig Harrington will repeat their competitive performance at Scioto Country Club on July 5. This time with Cink hoping for a different outcome.
Harrington won the faceoff last year at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, eking past Cink by one shot to secure his second national senior championship ****** le. The Irishman finished 11 under to Cink's 10 under.
Entering Sunday's final round at Scioto, Cink's 9 under total is one shot better than Harrington. Second-round leader George McNeill sits two back at 7 under.
"It probably naturally does add a little bit [of fire] because we did this last year," said Cink, whose third-round 64 included five birdies and matched Darren Clarke for low round of the day. "We've done it a number of times other than last year, and before the [Champions Tour] as well, back in the early days. I think we did this in the Ryder Cup.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Stewart Cink got off to a great start in a bid to win his third straight senior major.
Cink was the only player to make five birdies on the back nine at Scioto Country Club on Thursday, shooting a 3-under 67 for a share of the first-round lead in the U.S. Senior Open with Charlie Wi.
Cink struggled on the front nine, shooting a 2-over 37, but found momentum once he made the turn.
“I’ve been off for a little while, and I started like I’ve been off for a little while. I had to prove it to myself again that I could play decent golf a certain way,” Cink said. “The back nine was really nice. I actually could have shot quite a bit lower on the back nine. I missed three very reasonably like inside — right around 10 feet or less birdie putts.”
The 53-year-old Cink has four wins in nine PGA Tour Champions starts this year, including the Senior PGA Championship and the Tradition. The last player to win the Senior PGA, Tradition and U.S. Senior Open in the same year was Jack Nicklaus in 1991. Scioto, the Donald Ross course hosting its third U.S. Senior Open, is where Nicklaus learned to play the game.

Rest up boys, this one is going to be a long fight.
Perhaps Padraig Harrington's succinct, one-word answer to the final question he got from reporters after Thursday's opening round at Scioto Country Club summarized what the 2026 U.S. Senior Open field faced in the three days ahead.
"Rest," said Harrington, who carded a 1-under 69.
The reigning U.S. Senior Open champ who defeated Stewart Cink at The Broadmoor a year ago was asked what his approach would be for the remaining 54 holes in Columbus, Ohio, where temperatures are expected to hover over 90 degrees throughout the tournament.
First round co-leader Charlie Wi shot a 67 thanks to a run of five consecutive birdies on the first nine holes at Scioto but also admitted he was taking a slower strategy after the round than he would in other weeks.
