The Detroit Lions now have a substantial cushion in terms of financial stability heading into their first game of the 2026 campaign. This will allow Brad Holmes and the rest of the front office more flexibility in whatever direction they see fit whether that is in-season moves or in preparation for the contracts they will need to negotiate next offseason.
But it is also an indicator of how much faith the team has put into their top two players. Amon-Ra St. Brown and Penei Sewell have each restructured their contracts without changing how vital they are to the squad.
Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (14) practices during mini camp at Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
The Lions have restructured the contracts of wideout Brown and offensive tackle Sewell, creating about $35.6 million in salary cap ***** e, per Spotrac. The news was announced on September 12, just one day ahead of the Lions' season opener against the New Orleans Saints.

After a year marked by controversy, cancellations and mounting questions about its future, LIV Golf's final event at The Club at Chatham Hills in Indianapolis saw 22-year-old Michael La Sasso capture what could prove to be the final event in the league's tenure.
Of course, that remains speculation for now. Reports and rumors regarding the league's long-term survival continue to circulate, but no official announcement has been made regarding LIV's future. What is no longer in question, however, is that the circuit faces a series of significant headwinds.
More: This LIV Golf star was DQ'd in his DP World Tour qualifying attempt
Financial concerns have become increasingly difficult to ignore. The league has spent much of the year navigating a changing business landscape while exploring ways to reinvent itself for the future. Plans for a leaner, restructured version of the circuit have been discussed, but uncertainty remains about how and when such a model could take shape.
But after the biggest victory of his life, La Sasso and four fellow LIV players are taking steps to secure another pathway in professional golf, entering the DP World Tour's Qualifying School in hopes of earning status on Europe's top tour.

We're almost there, Miami football fans. The Hurricanes take the field for the first time in the 2026 season this weekend, granted on a weird day for college football on the West Coast against ACC opponent Stanford.
That combination of words isn't as wild as last year's run through the College Football Playoff and all the way to the national championship game. Now Mario Cristobal is ready to secure the program's sixth ****** le with quarterback Darian Mensah and jack-of-all-trades receiver Malachi Toney as his big stars. The restructured defensive front built around run-stuffing defensive tackle Ahmad Moten and former Missouri edge rusher Damon Wilson has a lot to live up to.
They'll get their first test against Stanford, who opened last week with an exciting 37-27 win over Hawaii. Davis Warren, who missed last season after tearing his ACL with Michigan, threw for 310 yards and a touchdown in his debut with the Cardinal, while Micah Ford ran for three TDs and came just shy of 100 yards. This will be Miami's first game in California since East Coast fans woke up to find Cam Ward had led a thrilling 25-point second-half comeback in 2024 over Cal.

On August 28, Pinterest (NYSE:PINS) said that the Chief Financial Officer, Julia Donnelly, will leave the company on October 30, kicking off an external search for her replacement. Vikram Naidu, the company's vice president of finance and business operations, will serve as interim principal financial officer in the meantime. Donnelly is departing to join a private, early-stage company after roughly three years in the role, a stretch CEO Bill Ready credited with 11 consecutive quarters of double-digit revenue growth. The timing puts a spotlight on whether Pinterest can keep that momentum going without her.
The financial picture Donnelly leaves behind is a strong one. In the second quarter of 2026, Pinterest generated $1.18 billion in revenue, up 18% year over year and the fourth straight quarter above $1 billion. Global monthly active users climbed to 640 million, an 11% increase and the eleventh consecutive quarter of double-digit user growth, with Gen Z now making up more than half the platform's user base.
The United States and Canada region, Pinterest's most lucrative market, shows the acceleration most clearly. Revenue there grew 18%, a five-point jump from the prior quarter, helped by a restructured sales team and tighter account coverage for mid-market advertisers. Average revenue per user in that region rose 14% to $8.30. Management has also leaned hard into artificial intelligence, rolling its conversational Pinterest ****** istant out to most US users by the end of July and pointing to open-source models that run at less than 8% of the cost of comparable closed systems.
Profitability improved alongside growth. Adjusted EBITDA reached $311 million, a 26% margin that expanded 130 basis points from a year earlier, and free cash flow totaled $1.3 billion over the trailing twelve months. Pinterest used some of that cash to retire nearly 111 million shares this year, spending more than $2 billion on buybacks.
Donnelly's exit adds a layer of uncertainty to a company that just forecast a deceleration. Pinterest's own guidance calls for third-quarter revenue growth of 13% to 15%, down from 18% in the second quarter, a slowdown management attributes to the shift in when Prime Day fell, a smaller currency tailwind, and continued pressure from Asia-based cross-border retailers hit by regulatory actions in Europe. Competition from Meta's Instagram for digital advertising dollars is compounding the squeeze.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Mets' September shakeup is not as much about contending as it is about development and preservation.
Mets interim manager Andy Green said Monday that the club would be calling up rookie outfielder Nick Morabito and right-handed pitcher Justin Hagenman when rosters across Major League Baseball expand from 26 to 28 players on Tuesday.
Those additions come after the club's roster was restructured further on Monday, with Mark Vientos reinstated from the injured list after sustaining a fractured right hand back on July 24. The Mets also saw Luis Robert Jr. claimed off waivers by the Orioles.
The Oriolies will close out $3 million on his deal for the season. They will also control the decision on his $20 million club option and potential $2 million buyout. Robert's exit opened the door for Vientos to return and an outfield ****** e to be be vacated for Morabito.
With a transformative few days for the Mets roster in the Sunshine State, here is how the Mets plan to use Morabito and Vientos, plus what Hagenman's call-up means for the Mets' rotation:

While everyone has been wondering all summer whether or not Arizona Cardinals left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. and wide receiver Michael Wilson would receive contract extensions before the start of the regular season, it turned out center Hjalte Froholdt was the first of the team's core to have that happen.
And that occurred a mere two years after his first contract with the team was restructured and extended in the summer of 2024.
That deal was set to expire following this season in which he was scheduled to receive $4.77 million in salary along with a $500,000 roster bonus that was paid in March as well as a maximum total of $255,000 in per-game active roster bonuses ($15,000 for each game) and a $100,000 offseason workout bonus. That would be total compensation of $5.625 million with nothing guaranteed in advance.
Prior to the current restructuring he signed earlier this week and that now has him under contract through 2028, the salary-cap charge was set to be $6.958 million.
It turns out the reported two-year extension being worth $20 million is accurate because the total cash value of all three years is $25.625 million. That includes $13.5 million fully guaranteed at signing and another $1.25 million that is currently guaranteed for injury only but becomes fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the 2027 league year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers finally have some financial breathing room, and they got it without touching DK Metcalf's paycheck. With the 2026 regular season approaching, the Steelers have reworked its biggest wide receiver contract to open nearly $18 million in salary-cap ******* e. It is a significant change for a team that entered Thursday with almost no room to maneuver.
The timing makes the move even more intriguing. The Steelers have been dealing with a contract standoff involving Joey Porter Jr., and suddenly, the front office has a much bigger financial cushion to work with before Week 1.

The Steelers restructured Metcalf's contract on August 27, 2026, according to ESPN's Field Yates, converting a large portion of his 2026 base salary into a signing bonus. The adjustment creates nearly $18 million in additional cap ******* e while leaving Metcalf's actual earnings unchanged for the season.
That is a big shift for the Steelers. Prior to the restructuring, the Steelers were carrying around about $3.78 million in Top-51 cap ******* e and were last in the NFL, according to Spotrac. The extra cap room will put the Steelers at about $21 million in room, giving general manager Omar Khan much more flexibility.

The freight market has seen a brutal downturn, with an astounding 85% failure rate for new carriers in the past three years. Kirk Mann, EVP & GM of Transportation and Vendor Solutions at Mitsubishi HC Capital America, dives into why this cycle was the longest, the impact of over-financed ****** ets, and what it means for the future of freight demand and equipment financing. Learn how lenders navigate this volatile landscape and what's next for carrier growth.
The average three-year failure rate for motor carriers with fewer than two years of operating experience and their own ICC authority hit 85% during the prolonged freight downturn, according to Kirk Mann, EVP & GM of Transportation and Vendor Solutions at Mitsubishi HC Capital. Mann shared the figure in a FreightWaves interview, offering one of the starkest measures yet of how the roughly three-and-a-half-year downturn devastated the smallest participants in the for-hire trucking market.
The elevated failure rate traces directly to the equipment bubble that inflated during 2021 and 2022. Mann recalled a conversation with his chief risk officer in which they discussed a four-year-old Freightliner Cascadia with fewer than 500,000 miles — an ****** et the risk officer valued at roughly $45,000 but that the company was financing at $100,000 to $110,000. FreightWaves data showed pre-COVID prices on five-year-old equipment running around $34,000, climbing to as high as $120,000 at the peak. Carriers that entered the business buying equipment at those inflated values were immediately underwater when rates collapsed.
"I remember we were way bubble. It was an ****** et bubble of enormous proportions," Mann said.
When defaults mounted, Mitsubishi HC Capital leaned on workout tools rather than immediate repossession. Mann said the company restructured approximately 75% of its loans during its 2020 customer ****** istance program launched at the onset of COVID-19, and that 95% of those borrowers resumed payments within 90 days. Even so, the lender accumulated repossessed inventory it held "for quite a long time" before conditions improved enough to move units through dealer networks, auctions, and internal sales channels.

With FedExCup points carrying over from the regular season and through the first playoff event, the PGA Tour pays out nearly $100,000,000 in bonus money after the second postseason tournament.
Scheffler topped the points list for the regular season. And after his victory in Memphis, Tennessee, he's a mathematical lock to be No. 1 after the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — NASCAR finishes have fallen into a familiar pattern for Christopher Bell.
Second-place finishes in four of the past five Cup Series races have felt like a "kick to the gut" for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver.
But those disappointments are always followed by a shot in the arm.
"Whenever Monday, Tuesday rolls around, you're like, 'Ahh, it was a pretty darn good day,' " Bell said before practice Friday at Richmond Raceway. "Ultimately, the results that we've gotten have meant a lot more this year than what they have in my entire Cup career."
That's because NASCAR has restructured its championship system this season with the return of the Chase, which emphasizes accumulating points through solid finishes.

Were it not for Brian Rolapp's disinclination to even mention LIV Golf, you'd be forgiven for thinking the PGA Tour's CEO had spent the past week trolling his opposite number with a carpet bombing campaign of upbeat commercial announcements.
On Monday, the Tour said that Sompo, an insurance company, will sponsor an event next season and an elite Championship Series tournament starting in 2028. On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Travelers will level up to the same tier. Wednesday brought news that Sentry will underwrite another of the silk-stocking stops. On Thursday, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard was added to the public list of tournaments comprising the Tour's premier schedule. (Friday was seemingly a day of rest for sales and marketing folks at the GloHo.) Each announced tournament has a $20 million purse, though total fees incurred by sponsors run closer to $30 million.
By comparison, LIV Golf's CEO, Scott O'Neil was silent since he had no good news to share and presumably little enthusiasm for addressing damaging speculation swirling around his business. One claim — amplified by his own players — is that the team finale scheduled for August 27 to 30 in Michigan will be canceled. Then came a cautionary rumor that it might happen after all, despite no build-out having commenced at the venue. A report followed that LIV is on the cusp of signing investors to keep it afloat into 2027, an infusion pegged at $250-$300 million, or about a quarter of what the Saudis have been torching annually for the past few years. Lastly, there was renewed anticipation of a bankruptcy filing as a step toward realigning the league's financial obligations.
No wonder the PGA Tour was so eager to position itself as surging in the right direction just as its antagonist is battling the narrative that it's in a death spiral. Whether both circuits remain on their respective trajectories is another matter.
Rolapp clearly has traction with sponsors to finance the Championship Series of a restructured PGA Tour, though it's possible some incumbents were offered a friends-and-family discount rather than asked for the full $30 million.

MIAMI, July 21 (UPI) -- The Miami Dolphins and All-Pro linebacker Jordyn Brooks agreed to a three-year, $51 million contract extension, a league source told UPI on Monday.
The pact includes $35 million in guarantees. Brooks, 28, led the NFL with 183 combined tackles and 99 solo takedowns in 2025.
The six-year veteran joined the Dolphins with a three-year, $26.2 million deal in 2024, which Brooks and Miami restructured last year.
He was set to play on the final year of that agreement. He will now be the fifth highest-paid off-ball linebacker in the NFL.
Brooks, the No. 27 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, spent his first four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He led the NFL with 109 solo tackles in 2021. Brooks totaled 839 combined tackles and 494 solo takedowns through the first 97 appearances of his NFL career.

U.S. Soccer named Steve Cherundolo as Olympic team coach Wednesday, tasking the former LAFC boss with developing the under-23s ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The appointment completes a restructured youth system designed to create a pipeline to Mauricio Pochettino's senior team.
Cherundolo joins a coaching structure that now includes Pochettino with the senior team, Rob Valentino at U-20, and Alex Aldaz at U-17. Each will play a specific developmental role, but Cherundolo's position could prove most critical — bridging the gap between youth categories and the full national team.
While LA 2028 provides the immediate target, Cherundolo's hiring signals broader ambitions. The generation competing at the 2026 World Cup already represents the most talented in U.S. history, with another promising crop emerging through the U-17, U-20, and U-23 ranks.
The Olympic team becomes the crucial connector — a finishing school where prospects make the final leap to senior level. If Cherundolo can establish a consistent playing identity across age groups while managing that transition, his influence could extend far beyond a single Olympic cycle.
Cherundolo's appointment inevitably sparks speculation about succession planning. Pochettino's future beyond 2026 remains uncertain, and any departure would trigger an immediate search for replacements. But positioning Cherundolo as the heir apparent now would be premature and potentially counterproductive.

Manchester United’s proposed transfer for Atalanta midfielder Ederson is not entirely dead, as the club has not ruled out finalising a deal for the Brazilian international. Michael Carrick is at Old Trafford. Although complications have slowed progress, United are actively seeking to resurrect the marquee move by restructuring the originally agreed terms.
United had previously reached a full agreement with Atalanta for an initial £35 million, plus £3.8 million in performance-related add-ons, along with a four-year contract for the player. However, after Ederson completed his international duties at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, United’s medical team conducted comprehensive evaluations. The scans reportedly raised concerns about a pre-existing knee injury, specifically a meniscus issue sustained during the previous domestic campaign—prompting speculation that the deal was off.
Despite the speculation, United are still keen to secure the 27-year-old midfielder to strengthen their midfield, even with the impending arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, for whom a deal has recently been agreed. Rather than abandoning their pursuit of Ederson, the Old Trafford hierarchy are exploring a revised financial package. United aim to renegotiate the deal to mitigate risk, potentially shifting the structure more towards appearance-based variables rather than upfront payments.
Atalanta, for their part, have adopted a relaxed stance. Head coach Maurizio Sarri and the club’s board remain convinced that Ederson is fully fit, citing his active involvement for Brazil off the bench during the World Cup knockout stages as evidence.
If Manchester United fail to reach a restructured agreement soon, the Serie A side are prepared to welcome Ederson back to pre-season training, with a lucrative new five-year contract already on the table.

Everton have agreed a deal worth up to £24m to sign Chelsea winger Tyrique George.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park, doing enough to convince David Moyes he was worth a permanent move.
The Toffees have restructured the original terms. Everton held an option to buy George outright for £25m, but chose not to trigger it. According to the BBC, they instead negotiated a lower upfront fee of £18m, with a further £6m in add-ons.
Those bonuses are tied to success on the pitch. The additional payments depend on European qualification and George’s number of appearances, while Chelsea have also inserted a 15% sell-on clause to protect their long-term interest.
His loan return was modest in the numbers. George made 11 appearances for Everton, starting just once, and failed to score or ******* ist. His energy and work-rate, however, left a strong impression on the coaching staff.

NBA free agents 2026: Ranking top 20 players in free agency, from LeBron James to Norman Powell originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
LeBron James leads a 2026 free agency class that doesn't have many huge names in it. Due to the way the league has restructured its salary cap rules and dates, the days of LeBron and Chris Bosh unexpectedly teaming up in Miami are long gone. Nowadays, those types of moves are made via trade rather than free agency.
LeBron might switch teams again, and that would certainly be big news. But aside from him, this free agent class is more about adding role players than All-Stars.
Many other top free agents like James Harden, Austin Reaves, Coby White, CJ McCollum, or others have either already re-signed with their current franchises or are widely expected to opt into a guaranteed deal for next season.
Those players won't make my top 20 free agents list. Instead, these are the most realisticly gettable candidates for teams like the Lakers, Bulls, Nets, and Pistons that will have some cap ***** e to work with, or other teams willing to make sign-and-trade deals.

Ahead of the 2024 season, the San Francisco 49ers signed receiver Brandon Aiyuk to a four-year, $120 million contract after a long offseason standoff.
At the time it looked like a necessary deal to lock down the 49ers' top receiver following three consecutive NFC champion appearances and one Super Bowl loss. But just two years later, Aiyuk's deal will likely go down as one of the worst contracts in the history of the John Lynch-Kyle Shanahan era.
When the 49ers inevitably move on from Aiyuk, either with a trade or release, he'll have played just seven total games on that deal. Now, the 49ers didn't end up giving him much after voiding his guarantees when he refused to report to the team in 2025, but the decision will still live in infamy in recent team history.
But is it the worst contract Lynch and Shanahan have ever given out during their tenure together in San Francisco? Let's explore the top-10 worst 49ers contracts since 2017. It should be noted that most of these are injury-related more than simply overpays.
Bosa's contract was recently ranked one of the worst deals in the NFL — and for good reason. After a Defensive Player of the Year season in 2022, Bosa's production declined in back-to-back years before he missed all but three games in 2025 with his third ACL tear. While the 49ers restructured the deal to reduce Bosa's 2026 cap hit to just $17.7 million, it also increased in future years by $4.29 million. Bosa is one of the best defensive players in the NFL when heathly, but he simply hasn't been since signing this mega extension.

The OBBBA introduces a new senior tax deduction of $6,000 for individuals aged 65 and older, and $12,000 for married couples if both individuals are at least 65 years old. That deduction can be stacked with the baseline standard deduction and existing over-65 bonus deductions, which means a senior married couple can shield up to $47,500 from federal income taxes.
However, this new deduction phases out at a rate of 6% for every $1,000 in Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) exceeding $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for married joint filers. It disappears at $150,000 and $250,000 for single filers and married joint filers, respectively.
The OBBBA also raised the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap from $10,000 to $40,000 through 2029. That increase should help retirees in high-tax states preserve much more cash.

Rather than pull the plug on the entire card, promoters restructured the bout at flyweight, 112 pounds, two divisions above where Collazo has spent his entire reign as champion.
It's the first time since his third pro fight in 2021 that Collazo has stepped outside minimumweight. The WBO slapped its International flyweight ****** le on the bout to give it some sanctioning weight, though that's a secondary belt, not a genuine world championship. The WBA didn't bother.
Both fighters weighed in comfortably under the 112-pound limit Friday, Collazo at 110.5, Valdez at 111.25.
The real motivation here isn't championship stakes. It's making sure a seven-fight card and its undercard fighters still get paid after a week of visa chaos nearly blew the whole thing up.

Shipping a product people love and running a company that makes money are two different jobs. One earns applause. The other earns a line on the balance sheet, and the two rarely arrive in the same week.
Rivian spent years selling the idea that it could become the next great American carmaker. Its trucks won awards. Its brand built a following most legacy automakers would envy. Amazon (AMZN) placed a large delivery van order and an early equity bet. For a company that has never posted an annual profit, the entire story rested on one promise, that a cheaper, higher volume vehicle would finally turn all that attention into earnings.
That vehicle is the R2, a midsize sport utility vehicle (SUV) built around a promised base price near $45,000 that began reaching buyers in June 2026. It is the most important launch Rivian has ever attempted. Which is what makes the timing of the next move so jarring.
Rivian laid off hundreds of workers on Tuesday, June 16, roughly one week after the first R2 deliveries. The cuts touched less than 2% of its workforce and fell mostly on service and customer teams. Rivian said it had "restructured a handful of teams" as it works to scale the business profitably, according to CNBC.
The size of the cut is small. The signal is not. Rivian employed 15,232 people at the end of last year, so less than 2% works out to up to roughly 300 jobs, according to Electrek.

We just covered the 10 Best Non-AI Stocks to Buy According to Billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller. Humana Inc. (NYSE:HUM) ranks #9 (see 5 Best Non-AI Stocks to Buy According to Billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller).
Druckenmiller's Stake: $23,842,000
Humana Inc. (NYSE:HUM) is a US health insurer focused mainly on Medicare Advantage plans for seniors. While the stock is up year to date and has also gained over the past year, it is down 28% over the past five years amid profitability pressure in the Medicare Advantage business.
The bull case for the long term is simple: the pressures are cyclical and partially fixable over time. Humana (NYSE:HUM) is targeting a return to at least a 3% Medicare Advantage margin by 2028, suggesting management expects profitability to recover as pricing, benefits, and utilization normalize. The company also expects earnings growth to resume after a 2026 "reset year," where current pressures are absorbed and restructured into new plan designs and pricing.
Membership trends still provide some support, with individual Medicare Advantage membership expected to grow by about 25% over 2026, driven by new sales and improved retention. This shows that despite margin pressure, demand for the product remains strong.

Student loan debt has been a moving target over the last few years, with frequent changes to loan repayment policies creating confusion for millions of borrowers. More than 43 million people owe $1.6 trillion in federal student loans, and many are still adjusting to changes that have unfolded since payments resumed following the pandemic-era pause.
Numerous changes were made with the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill in July 2025. Primarily, new borrowing limits are being instituted, repayment options are being narrowed, and Parent PLUS loans must be restructured to ensure certain benefits remain intact.
The latest modifications aren't as drastic as the resumption of repayments from 2023 through 2025. Still, the new borrowing limits and repayment guidelines must be addressed, in some cases with a looming deadline in the next few days.
Here are the eight federal student loan priorities to consider before July 1.
