A "reckless" young driver who killed two people in a crash while speeding has had her prison sentence increased at the Court of Appeal.
Attorney General Ellie Reeves KC referred the case of Liberty Mitchell to the court under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme, and it was increased from six years and eight months to nine years and three months.
Taxi driver Octavian Codreanu died at the scene and passenger Moyra Whelan died in hospital after the crash on the B4425 in Gloucestershire in December 2022.
Mitchell, 21, who passed her driving test three weeks before the crash, had admitted two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by driving while uninsured.

Last year, the United Soccer League began looking at Pensacola to set up a new team for its USL League One, but one of the biggest questions beyond who would invest in a team is where a team would play. Blue Wahoos Stadium may be the only viable answer.
Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves told the News Journal that the city will conduct a feasibility study into converting Blue Wahoos Stadium to host a soccer team along with the Minor League Baseball team.
“This is a feasibility study in every form of the word,” Reeves said. “Is this idea even possible? And if it turns out it is, then we can take another step.”
Several USL soccer teams share their stadiums with baseball teams, including Blue Wahoos' rival, the Knoxville Smokies, which shares the new Covenant Health Park with One Knoxville SC, a USL League One team.
USL, which has multiple levels, has been expanding in recent years as part of a plan to create a Division I league in 2028 that would compete for the same level of players as Major League Soccer. As part of that, it has been looking to start more teams at the Division III level, which is USL League One.

Before the Minnesota Lynx's road matchup against the Seattle Storm, head coach Cheryl Reeve gave Napheesa Collier a piece of advice ahead of her long-awaited return to the court.
"Cheryl (Reeve) did say ... 'It's going to take time to come back and to get settled in,'" Collier said Wednesday, July 22.
Well, it didn't take long for the five-time All-Star to get back into the swing of things. Collier recorded a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double in the Lynx's 86-76 win over the Storm, marking her first game since Sept. 26, 2025.
"I was just so excited. I felt like a kid in a candy store. I couldn't wait to get on the court to get with these guys," Collier said. "I was just really just happy to be here. ... It's just a year of pent-up excitement."
Collier underwent surgeries to both ankles this offseason after suffering multiple ankle injuries during the 2025 WNBA season. She injured her ankle during a 111-58 win over the Las Vegas Aces in August 2025 and missed 11 games. During Game 3 of the WNBA semifinals against the Phoenix Mercury, Collier suffered a Grade 2 tear of three ankle ligaments and her shin muscle after a collision with Alyssa Thomas.

The WNBA's best team is getting a massive boost ahead of the All-Star Game. Napheesa Collier, a four-time All-WNBA selection who led Minnesota to the Finals in 2024, is listed as probable for Wednesday's game against the Seattle Storm.
Minnesota has thrived without Collier, going 21-6 including an impressive 11-2 on the road. Olivia Miles has been the driving force. For her career, Collier averages 18.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks. Her return makes Minnesota the runaway ***** le favorite.
Collier is expected to suit up against Seattle. Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve told reporters earlier his month to not expect much of a minutes restriction upon Collier's return.

TRENTON, New Jersey — Gov. Mikie Sherrill built her political brand around her time piloting helicopters for the Navy.
As New Jersey's governor, she isn't in the ****** pit anymore. But she's a frequent flier.
Sherrill flew aboard a State Police helicopter eight times over roughly three months, according to records obtained by POLITICO. In one instance, the records show, Sherrill used a State Police helicopter to fly from New Jersey to Maryland to attend a "black-tie" alumni event at the Naval Academy, her alma mater.
Access to the helicopter is one of the perks of being New Jersey governor, albeit an expensive one. As of 2021, it cost taxpayers approximately $2,500 an hour for the governor to use the State Police helicopter, according to press reports.
Prior New Jersey governors have faced scrutiny over use of the state chopper, especially when it is not explicitly for state business. Democratic former Gov. Jim McGreevey used it for personal trips, which resulted in the New Jersey Democratic State Committee agreeing to reimburse the state $18,200. Republican former Gov. Chris Christie was ensnared in "choppergate" in 2011 when he arrived at his son's high school baseball game in a State Police helicopter. He and the New Jersey Republican Party reimbursed the state $3,300 days later, but the flights raised questions around his image as a fiscal hawk.

The start of the 2026 Kentucky Wildcats football season is coming fast, and is now just 54 days away. As it approaches, we are getting to know the players that make up the roster. This year's squad doesn't have a No. 54, but there are two players wearing No. 53, so today we're taking a look at one of them: Ben Reeves.
Reeves is a 6'2", 242 lb out of Edgewood, Kentucky. He was a defensive lineman with Covington Catholic, and recorded seven sacks in his final season there. He enrolled at Georgetown College after high school, and recorded 30 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, and a forced fumble as a redshirt freshman last year. He the transferred to Kentucky this offseason.
Though he wasn't a highly rated recruit out of high school, Reeves has proven to be a productive player at the NAIA level. He'll bring a strong work ethic and drive to succeed to the Wildcats.
Reeves will likely be depth this season, and a potential special teamer. However, he still has plenty of eligibility remaining, and time to work his way up the depth chart. He's an easy to root for player, and a Bluegrass State product who Big Blue Nation will be rooting for.

Aaron Rodgers is doing some team-building roughly two weeks before the Pittsburgh Steelers report for training camp.
Going into his 23rd NFL season, the four-time MVP wants to make sure his final season is a memorable one. And he gathered a handful of teammates from the Steelers offense for a trip to bond before the work of the 2026-27 campaign really begins.
Rodgers posted a photo of himself with receivers Michael Pittman Jr., Ben Skowronek, Roman Wilson and DK Metcalf, along with quarterback Mason Rudolph and tight end Pat Freiermuth from an undisclosed location.
Whereever the photo was taken from (Rodgers also posted another one that was sharper), perhaps somewhere out West, there is plenty of wide-open ***** e to work on some pass routes. But maybe they’re saving the football stuff for when they report to Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
Accompanying the image, Rodgers wrote “Last Rodeo,” reminding everyone that this will be his last season and these are the guys who will help him through it. The caption also included the hashtag “#bondingweek,” indicating the purpose of this excursion.

NEW YORK — Cheryl Reeve knows how to win better than anybody in the WNBA.
She proved as much Wednesday night as the Minnesota Lynx beat the Connecticut Sun on the road 86-80, making her the winningest coach in WNBA history. Reeve, who already owns the WNBA's playoff wins record, tied Mike Thibault (379-289) for the WNBA's record for most regular-season wins with the Lynx's win over the Dallas Wings on June 28.
Her 380th victory isolates her atop the mountain.
"I'm so glad this is over," Reeve said on the postgame broadcast.
"I learned a lot from Mike through the years," she added. "Tremendous coach. So much respect that we've had for each other through the years. I know he's happy for me. And somebody's going to pass me and I'll be happy for them, too."

The win broke a tie with Mike Thibault, who was the previous regular-season wins leader in league history. Reeve, who led the Lynx to multiple ******* les earlier in her coaching career, is already the WNBA's all-time winningest postseason coach, too.
Reeve has spent her entire head coaching career with the Lynx, who hired her in 2010 after nearly a decade as an ******* istant elsewhere in the league. Reeve, with star Maya Moore on hand, guided the Lynx to four WNBA ******* les in her first eight seasons at the helm in Minneapolis. They reached the WNBA Finals six times in a seven-year span, too. The Lynx last reached the WNBA Finals in 2024 after a bit of a lull following the dynasty era, but fell to the New York Liberty.
Reeve is a four-time WNBA coach of the year, and was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame last month, too. She was also the head coach of the Team USA women's basketball roster that won gold in the Olympics in 2024. That marked the United States' eighth straight gold medal.

On Wednesday, July 8, Reeve set the league record with her 380th victory when her Minnesota Lynx defeated the Connecticut Sun, 86-80, at Mohegan Sun Arena. Reeve surpassed longtime Sun coach Mike Thibault's record of 379. It has stood since 2022.
Reeve's latest milestone comes after she tallied her 414th victory (regular-season and postseason) on Sept. 14, 2025, becoming the all-time winningest WNBA coach for combined wins, surpassing Thibault (413).
It also comes after she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame on June 27 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Reeve is the second WNBA coach to be inducted, joining former Houston Comets coach Van Chancellor, inducted in 2001.
"(I appreciate) the magnitude of this recognition of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the great work that has gone into this institution," Reeve said during her induction ceremony. "To walk around and see the history of how much has been done years before I could ever have this opportunity to coach."

Minnesota Lynx guard Olivia Miles is the frontrunner for the 2026 WNBA 'Rookie of the Year' award. Throughout the current season, Miles has yet to miss a game while averaging outstanding numbers of 18.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.7 **** ists, and 1.4 steals in around 30.6 minutes per contest. While the race for the award remains competitive with players such as Dallas Wings rookie Azzi Fudd stacking her case up, Miles remains in front to win it.

According to the tenured tactician, Reeve and her staff are making sure that Miles' injury does not worsen.
"Those that were in tune to the last game, you know, she mentioned feeling some cramping, and you know, I think ultimately it wasn't a cramp, and so we're kind of taking the next step of imaging and that sort of thing, and trying to get a final answer, exactly what we're dealing with," Reeve was quoted as saying.

There were many onlookers for the game, since it was a rematch of the 2024 WNBA Finals. Despite the loss, Olivia Miles still put up 14 points, five rebounds, five **** ists, and a steal in 26 minutes of playing time. On the flip side, Liberty forward Breanna Stewart put up a game-high 36 points.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Purdue All-American, Westfield High School star and second-round draft pick Braden Smith will lead the Pacers ' NBA Summer League team when it heads to Las Vegas to start play on July 10.
The Pacers released their Summer League roster on social media Tuesday. It does not include any players currently or expected to be on a standard contract, but it does include Smith, two players who were on two-way contracts last season and four more players who were part of the **** lesville Boom last season.
Guard Taelon Peter and Jalen Slawson were the players on two-way contracts with the Pacers. The four Boom players are Fort Wayne native Keion Brooks Jr., guard Cameron Hildreth , forward Gabe McGolthan and swingman MJ Iraldi. On Saturday night in Knoxville, Tennessee, that moment finally arrived as Parker was officially inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026, joining fellow basketball greats Elena Delle Donne, Cheryl Reeve, and several others in a class that celebrates some of the sport's most influential figures.
For Parker, the ceremony marked another milestone in a career that redefined what was possible for women's basketball.
Her journey began at the University of Tennessee, where she became one of the most decorated players in program history under legendary head coach Pat Summitt. Parker led the Lady Vols to back-to-back NCAA championships in 2007 and 2008 while earning Most Outstanding Player honors in both tournaments. Her dominance at Tennessee transformed her into one of the biggest stars the women's game had ever seen and helped elevate the sport to a broader national audience.
That success carried seamlessly into the WNBA.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Natasha Howard had 21 points and a season-high 15 rebounds, Olivia Miles scored 10 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter, and the Minnesota Lynx rallied from a 12-point deficit Wednesday night to beat the Washington Mystics 78-76.
Kayla McBride made five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points for the Lynx (14-4).
Miles hit a step-back jumper that cut Minnesota’s deficit to a point with 3:32 to play. After a Mystics timeout, the Lynx forced a shot-clock violation before Miles fed Howard for a wide-open layup that made it 72-71 — Minnesota’s first lead since 17-16 — and hit a 3 with 1:07 remaining that made it 78-74.
McBride hit the last of her four first-half 3-pointers with 1.1 seconds left in the second quarter to make it 40-all at halftime, but the Lynx made just 3 of 16 (19%) from the field in the third and trailed 65-53 with seven minutes to play.

There is exactly one rule that has never bent at House of Nanking, the cramped, beloved Shanghainese spot in San Francisco's Chinatown: everyone waits. No one skips the line. Not Francis Ford Coppola, not anyone. So, in 1997, when a young actor in all black turned up hoping for a table, Peter Fang did what he did to everybody.
His daughter Kathy, then a starstruck fan, recognized the man instantly and begged her father to let him skip the line. As Kathy told the SF Standard, her dad refused without budging, which is its own kind of immigrant-parent comedy. "Not only do they not give an inch, but they can embarrass you, all within five minutes," she said.
The embarrassment was just getting started. Peter, who didn't watch many movies, walked over, took one look at the famous-seeming customer, and reached for the only relevant name filed in his head. "Kathy, come take a picture!" he called out. "It's him! It's Sean Connery!"
It was not Sean Connery. It was Keanu Reeves.
Mortified, Kathy apologized on her father's behalf. Reeves, by every account the most gracious man in show business, took it perfectly. As the SF Standard reported, he thanked Peter and said he was deeply honored to be mistaken for an actor as talented as Sean Connery. Before he left, Kathy grabbed a disposable camera and snapped a photo with him. It went up by the front window and stayed there for decades. "Keanu Reeves was such a gentleman," Kathy recalled. "You know how everybody talks about him being the nicest person in the industry."

Head coach Dan Reeves liked to use Willhite on the occasional trick play and the halfback option pass was a play that Reeves brought over from his playing days with the Cowboys. Gerald didn’t fare too well in that capacity though, as he only had 2 completions in 13 attempts, including an interception.
Back in May of 2011, former Mile High Report staffer Krik Davis wrote that about Gerald Willhite as part of MHR’s Greatest to Wear Series. Remember, until Terrell Davis, the Broncos were always looking for that workhorse running back to pair with John Elway. Gerald was supposed to be that guy… and he could return kickoffs!
Unfortunately, despite the 1st round expectations, Gerald wasn’t able to live up to those expectations. He was a contributor, but was most underappreciated for what he brought to the game (and the fans) when he scored.
Long befor the antics of Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco, there was Gerald.He was ahead of his time with his signature touchdown celebration – a standing backflip. For me, a child of the 1980’s, I grew up with my mother literally squealing with excitement every time he did it. Then, I also remember her total disgust with the NFL for cracking down on it it starting in 1984, making the celebration an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Yes, the NFL literally stole joy from my mother.
