Josh Hokit wasted no time making his case for UFC gold after Tom Aspinall vacated the heavyweight ******* le Monday.
Aspinall relinquished his championship after suffering yet another setback in his ongoing recovery from the eye injuries he sustained against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 last October. The move clears the way for the UFC heavyweight division to resume it's usual activity; Gane defeated Alex Pereira at UFC Freedom 250 in June to claim an interim ******* le, and will likely be formally upgraded to undisputed heavyweight champion in short order.
And Hokit wants the first crack.
"The fans deserve Me vs Gane. I'll give Ciryl what he has coming. If Alex can win 1 fight in my weight class, I'll give it to him too, early '27. I'll be the most active champ in the company."
Pereira has continued to campaign for an immediate rematch with Gane in the months since UFC Freedom 250, accusing the Frenchmen of using illegal strikes to the back of the head to defeat him in their battle on the White House's South Lawn. Hokit, though, has repeatedly dismissed the former two-division UFC champion, arguing that Pereira should have to earn his way back after being stopped by Gane in less than two rounds.

The CHAOTIC Coritiba vs. Athletico this Friday (11) has been full of drama and plenty of puddles on the Couto Pereira pitch.
And the derby in Matchday 27 of the Brasileirão has also already seen a sending-off based on the "Vini Jr. Law."
Coritiba had a free kick to take right near the end of the first half.
Then Breno Lopes went over to center-back Arthur Dias and covered his mouth with his right hand during a confrontation.
VAR official Rodrigo Nunes de Sá called referee Wagner do Nascimento Magalhães over to the monitor.

Josh Hokit has a serious problem with Alex Pereira campaigning for a Ciryl Gane rematch.
Pereira (13-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) was finished by Gane in their interim heavyweight ***** le fight at UFC Freedom 250 in June. Gane dropped Pereira with a jab then swarmed him for the second-round TKO. "Poatan" complained that several shots from Gane landed to the back of his head in the fight-ending sequence, and he's eager to run things back.
Hokit (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC), who scored two big wins over Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis in the span of two months, believes Pereira has no business rematching Gane (14-2 MMA, 11-2 UFC) – or even asking for it.
"As a fan, that fight makes no f*cking sense," Hokit wrote on X. "I watched you get demolished. How about a more favorable match up like Sergei who is basically a striker & way less athletic than Ciryl. How about you get one f*cking win in this weight class before you are gifted another ***** le shot."

Surging heavyweight Josh Hokit went on tirade on social media after former two-division UFC champion Alex Pereira posted a video campaigning for a rematch with Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight belt.
In a series of X posts targeting Pereira and making his case for the next shot at Gane, Hokit criticized the idea that Pereira and Ilia Topuria could challenge for belts next after both got finished by Gane and Justin Gaethje this past June at UFC White House, respectively.
"As a fan, that fight makes no ***** sense," wrote Hokit, who finished Derrick Lewis on that same card. "I watched you get demolished. How about a more favorable match up like Sergei [Pavlovitch] who is basically a striker & way less athletic than Ciryl. How about you get one ***** win in this weight class before you are gifted another ***** le shot."
"Growing up, I loved the UFC & all of its fighters," he continued on a separate post. "So it gives me great pleasure to use my platform today to speak the truth: neither Ilia Topuria nor Alex Pereira deserve a ***** ***** le shot in their next fight. They both got handily destroyed. Make them earn it and fight their way back like everyone else."
Hokit argued that Tom Aspinall's manager Eddie Hearn is "obviously" stalling to "buy time in contract negotiations" instead of working on a deal for a ***** le unification bout with Gane. Hokit suggests, then, booking him versus Gane on the upcoming Madison Square Garden show November in New York, while Pereira battles Pavlovich on the same card.

It has been nearly three months since Alex Pereira's bid to become a UFC champion in a third weight class came to a brutal halt at UFC Freedom 250. Ciryl Gane delivered a statement-making performance to score a second-round knockout in the historic White House co-main event.
The win was a huge moment for Gane, who became just the second fighter in UFC history to win two interim ***** les in the same division. More importantly, it put the French heavyweight in line for a highly anticipated rematch with undisputed champion Tom Aspinall.
However, much of the post-fight discussion wasn't about Gane's performance. Instead, the spotlight quickly turned to the 11 finishing shots he landed on Pereira, with seven appearing to connect to the back of the head and being deemed illegal.

Pereira has since repeatedly called out referee Herb Dean and even demanded that he be removed from officiating his future fights. So far, though, nothing has changed on that front, and it appears Pereira is ready to put the controversy behind him and focus on what comes next.

Multiple acts participating in a comedy festival in Portugal, the inaugural MEO Commedia a La Carte Fest (Lisbon International Humour Festival), have announced that they are no longer participating.
Actress Inês Aires Pereira announced on Saturday that her show Namastê was being removed from the festival's lineup and explained her reasoning being that "one of the names insistently defends ideas and acts that I consider indefensible." She also added in her social media post: "We cannot relativize or normalize a genocide."

A comedy festival in Portugal is currently giving people little reason to laugh. The 1st edition of the Lisbon International Humour Festival, Commedia a La Carte Fest, is being overshadowed by controversy, with several Portuguese artists cancelling their shows.
The most recent case is that of actress Inês Aires Pereira, who announced on Saturday that her show "Namastê" was being removed from the comedy festival's line-up.
The performer wrote on social media that "one of the names persistently defends ideas and acts that I consider indefensible." She added: "We cannot relativise or normalise a genocide."
Her criticism did not explicitly mention anyone, but the apparent target seems to be Jerry Seinfeld, the American comedian headlining the event, who has publicly expressed his support for Israel.
The Portuguese actress was not the first to announce she was pulling out. Also on Saturday, the comedy duo Cebola Mol, made up of Eduardo Madeira and Filipe Homem Fonseca, said they would not be taking part in the festival.

The derby between Santos and Palmeiras this Wednesday (2) in the Copa do Brasil began in a tense atmosphere.
The very first play of the match was enough to result in two yellow cards at Vila Belmiro.
Felipe Anderson committed a hard foul on Neymar near midfield and was booked by the referee.
Immediately afterward, with play stopped, Escobar kicked the ball at Andreas Pereira and was also shown a yellow card.
Tensions flared on both sides, and the referee had to repeatedly insist that only the captains, Neymar and Murilo, approach him.

Didn't have much to do in the first half but did what needed to be done without fuss and was only slightly busier in the second half, again just dealing with what needed to be dealt with without fuss.
Pereira was forced into a save in the 54th minute after Wing was caught flat-footed and not defending the edge of the box. Pereira immediately pounced on the rebound but wasn't able to fully claim it/deal with it while under pressure from the Mansfield attacker; he was somewhat fortunate that he won a foul from this.
A good claim in the 70th minute from a high ball was his only other notable contribution, outside of making a couple of routine stops in both halves.
Dokes just did what Dokes does – for the most part he was defensively diligent and made a nuisance of himself further up the pitch on the overlap.
Provided only one standout moment, but it did feel like it changed the game for Reading. Reading were in a 20-minute period of struggling to contain the Mansfield threat, so Dokes took it into his own hands to make a good run forward in the 34th minute which led to an unfortunately poor cross.

And even made some "extra" cash thanks to an initiative that was a hit on social media.

Hernandez is currently tied with Caio Borralho for the No. 5 spot at 185 pounds in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, while Rodrigues looks to rise from his No. 15 position
California's Hernandez (15-3, 1 NC) looks to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Sean Strickland that not only snapped an eight-fight win streak, it probably cost him a ****** le shot. "Fluffy" has made a habit of overwhelming the competition, scoring finishes against Roman Dolidze, Michel Pereira, Roman Kopylov, Edmen Shahbazyan, and Rodolfo Vieiera. An impressive performance Saturday places Hernandez back in the thick of the championship chase.
Rodrigues (19-6) is set to make a statement himself after winning his past three fights and six of his past seven. In his most recent outing, Rodrigues avenged one his few losses with a stunning first-round knockout of Brunno Ferreira. Though he was best known for his grappling exploits prior to signing with the UFC in 2021, "Robocop" has become one of the middleweight division's most respected knockout artists, with seven of his octagon victories coming by way of KO/TKO.

Didn't have a lot to do today, in his 100th game for Reading, yet rarely exuded the confidence that we've seen in previous years, and when we were once again crying out for a quick throw to set the speedy full-backs/wingers on a counter, he held onto it too long and played the ball centrally to a centre-back, too often.
Pereira struggled to claim an early free-kick in the third minute and later came out from the goal to help Andy Rinomhota shepherd a long AFC Wimbledon ball out of play. He looked initially hesitant but eventually dealt with it well.
In the second half, Pereira struggled to punch the ball clear from a corner in the 85th minute due to the crowd of people in front of him, but did well late on in the game to rush out from the line to intercept a through-ball that broke the Reading defensive line.
"Dokes" provided a real presence on the right, getting forward throughout the early stages and generally looked comfortable dealing with any Wimbledon threat down Reading's right. He built upon this in the second half by becoming a real attacking outlet, and was unfortunate to not have picked up an ***** ist.
Notable moments from the second half: a fantastic run down the right in the 51st minute using his pace to get round the outside of the Wimbledon left-back and into the area, whose cross found Josh Stokes, followed by another fantastic run through the middle and through-ball to find Jack Marriott in the 54th minute.

Last Thursday (20), Corinthians beat Rosario Central 1-0 at Neo Química Arena and secured a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Conmebol Libertadores.
Even before the match started, Argentinians and Corinthians fans put on a beautiful show in the stands, singing in support of their teams.
But even Los Canallas' "hinchas" were impressed by the Fiel Torcida.
In videos circulating on social media, Rosario Central fans stop singing after being drowned out by the explosion coming from the black-and-white side with the "poropopó."
Timão returns to the pitch on Sunday (23), when they visit Coritiba at Couto Pereira for Matchday 24 of the Brasileirão.

PEREIRA, Colombia, Aug 13 (Reuters) - With his lean, sinewy frame, and standing just over 5 feet (1.6 meters) tall, Julio Cesar Pineda feels he was destined for the work of burrowing into the debris of shattered buildings to find survivors — first when a quake hit his native Colombia in 1999, and again just this week.
His efforts have won him a nickname: "Rescate" ('Rescue').
When Monday's 7.4-magnitude earthquake pummeled western Colombia, the 67-year-old was at home, near the city of Pereira, in the country's coffee-growing region that was close to the epicenter of the disaster. A wall in his house collapsed, but Pineda was unhurt and decided to help those who might have been less fortunate.
"All I did was grab some gloves ... grab a helmet, and go save lives," Pineda told Reuters.

League action is back!
The Royals narrowly went through to the second round of the Carabao Cup last Saturday, beating Bromley on penalties. It was Joel Pereira that had the last laugh in that game, saving Ethon Archer's penalty, but plaudits should go to Kyreece Lisbie, who had a great game.
Lewis Wing missed a penalty but the captain settled that by kicking off the scoring in the shootout. It will be Stevenage that Reading play in the next round (which I predicted), so we will be able to focus on the league at least.
Luton Town beat Gillingham 3-0 in the cup, with their campaign getting off to a smoother start than the Royals'. Goals by Nahki Wells, Bennadict Benagr and Giddeon Kouda sealed the deal for the Hatters, who face Chelsea in the next round. So it is likely Luton will also be focusing on the league, but these games are never predictable.
We finally hit matchday one of League One, with Reading vs Luton kicking off at 12:30 on Saturday. It will be available on Sky Sports and will be played at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, which has a capacity of 24,161. The referee to take us into league action will be Leigh Doughty.

If the Wrigley Chewing Gum company weren't so deeply **** ociated with the arch-rivals of the St. Louis ballclub, they'd probably offer the Cardinals the opportunity to be the new face of Doublemint Gum, on account of all the double killings they turned tonight. In the absence of an endorsement deal, the Redbirds will have to settle for winning the game.
The Phillies put runners on the corners on the first, but didn't convert them into runs. And the same was true in the second, as the Phillies put runners on the corners and saw the inning end on a Justin Crawford 6-4-3 GIDP. The Cardinals soon found themselves in a comparable situation, putting runners on first and third against Cristopher Sánchez on singles from José Fermin and Masyn Winn. And the Redbirds, wanting to be gracious and considerate hosts, chose not to upstage their visitors and promptly hit into a 5-4-3 twin killing. The Phillies, however, misunderstood this kind gesture, thinking that home team was trying to upstage them with a GIDP slightly fancier than the standard 6-4-3. "We can match that," said the Phils. And so it was that in the next inning they did indeed replicate the 5-4-3 DP, via grounder from Bryce Harper.
The **** embled masses, Philadelphia Phaithful and toasted ravioli-eating St. Louis partisans alike, cried "stop! No more!" But their calls went unheeded. The Cardinals, their dander up and their ire drawn, one-upped the Phillies by hitting into a 4-6-3 version of the pitcher's best friend. to conclude the bottom of the third. The arms race was on. Your faithful recapper sprinted to his bookshelf, removed his copy of the **** son Baseball Dictionary, flipped to the entry on double plays, and groaned upon realizing that only four synonyms were listed; one was used two sentences ago, and the others weren't distinct enough to be of use (technically you can shorten double play to just double, but isn't that confusing?)
In the fourth inning, the first two Phillies batters, Luis Arraez and J.T. Realmuto, made outs, thus ensuring the chain of double plays would at last be broken. But while the double plays ended, offense was still hard to find. In the top of the fifth, Alec Bohm sent a slider flying to center, where Everson Pereira leapt and came down with it elegantly; poetry in motion, and frustration in action for the Phillies. The Cardinals proved no more adept at scoring in their portion of the fifth, and then in the sixth the double play chain began again, with the Phillies matching the 4-6-3 their avian foe hit into earlier.
The Phillies faced the Redbird bullpen in the seventh, with Brady Pallante departing after six scoreless, with four hits and just two Ks. His replacement, George Soriano, quickly induced two outs, then allowed a single to Brandon Marsh and a walk to Bohm. That brought up Justin Crawford, who lined out. The scoring drought continued.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Andre Pallante gave up four hits over six innings and Everson Pereira homered to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0 on Tuesday night.
Pereira hit his fifth homer of the season and first since being claimed off waivers by the Cardinals from the Chicago White Sox on Thursday in the eighth to give St. Louis a 2-0 lead.
Pereira, who started in center field, made a leaping catch of a line drive at the center field wall in the top of the fifth inning to rob Alec Bohm of an extra-base hit.
George Soriano (6-3) pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Pallante who allowed three walks and struck out two. Riley O'Brien pitched a scoreless ninth for his 30th save.
Ryne Stanek got Luis Arraez to ground into a 3-2-3 double play and retired J.T. Realmuto on a fly out to deep center field after Caleb Ferguson walked Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner and Bryce Harper to load the bases with no outs in the eighth inning.

LAS VEGAS – Jamahal Hill wants to dive right in the deep end of the UFC heavyweight pool.
Hill, a former UFC light heavyweight champion, announced he'll be taking his talents up to the heavyweight division later this year, and he wants to face the very top of the weight class right off the bat. Out of the names that are currently up in the rankings, there's one that stands out for him: Josh Hokit.
"Top five – I'd love to fight the top five," Hill told MMA Junkie and other media. "I feel as though even if I continued fighting at light heavyweight, it would be top five. I'd like to see the same thing here. You know, I'm here to bring energy and bring good fights. I believe my style is very exciting, and it translates very well to the big boys. I'm going to get them moving. I'm going to get them moving. I'm coming with that action.
"It's not going to be a whole lot of sitting back, looking at each other. I'm here to put my hands on people, so that's what I'm coming for the heavyweight division. I think the heavyweight division needs that, and I want Josh Hokit. I want Josh Hokit first fight. You know, that's definitely a fight I want more than any other fight. That's the fight that I want."
Hill is currently on a three-fight skid. He was stopped by Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka before losing a decision to Khalil Rountree Jr. in June 2025. Hill hasn't fought since, as he's been recovering from an injury.

CALI, Colombia (AP) — A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, killing at least 111 people, damaging hundreds of buildings and leaving many trapped under debris while their loved ones and rescue workers searched through rubble.
Search teams and civilians picked through the remains of destroyed buildings in the country's third-largest city, Cali, passing large pieces of concrete and other rubble down a long line of volunteers.
"Our building has basically been left in ruins, and the building next to ours? Completely collapsed," said Álvaro López, who cradled his dog as he watched the search. The desperate scene recalled the searches still ongoing in neighboring Venezuela weeks after that country was devastated by two powerful earthquakes.
Besides Cali, the quake ravaged cities across western Colombia, including Pereira, Quibdo and Manizales, and was felt in neighboring Ecuador and Panama. The epicenter was in San Jose Del Palmar, a community of about 4,800 people in the Choco region about 250 miles (400 kilometers) west of Bogota, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Colombia's President Abelardo de la Espriella said at least 87 people were injured and around 1,600 buildings were damaged, including at least 61 that completely collapsed. He declared an emergency to expedite funding for the quake recovery while saying he would visit the disaster zone.

Mark Zuckerberg is a die-hard mixed martial arts fan.
Zuckerberg recently sparred with MerabDvalishvili on a floating platform in the middle of a lake. TheMeta CEO has been training for a few years now, evidenced by hislight sparring session with the former Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight king, wherein helanded some jabs, body kicks and even a takedown.
Zuckerberg has developed strong friendships with several MMAfighters, training with the likes of AlexPereira, AlexanderVolkanovski and IsraelAdesanya, in addition to Dvalishvili. During their recentmid-lake sparring session, Zuckerberg even kicked Dvalishvili offthe barge, before the Georgian returned the favor by throwing theAmerican billionaire into the lake.
Zuckerberg has become increasingly involved with MMA, especiallythe UFC, over the past few years. He initially started training jiujitsu during the pandemic and even won a gold and a silver at BJJTour Silicon Valley in 2023. Zuckerberg's coach at the time, DaveCamarillo, who once trained elites like CainVelasquez, called the tech mogul one of his best students.
Meanwhile, Dvalishvili looked to defend his UFC bantamweight ******* lefor the fourth time in a year when he put it on the line in arematch against Petr Yan lastDecember. Yan outclassed Dvalishvili on the night, taking theirrivalry to 1-1. While there's no official confirmation from the UFCas yet, both fighters have indicated that they're gearing up for atrilogy bout next.

Matthew Liberatore's start went south from the very first pitch, but he avoided a meltdown as the St. Louis Cardinals were playing catchup from the beginning of the game. The question would end up being whether their less than spectacular offense lately would muster enough runs to overcome the Rockies fast start. Short answer? No.
Pitch one of inning one to the Colorado Rockies was a 95 mph four-seam fastball from Matthew Liberatore to Jake McCarthy and it traveled 420 feet into the right field stands of Busch Stadium for an immediate 1-0 Rockies lead. It could have been worse as Matthew then walked Karros and many of us in Cardinals fandom started fearing a 1st inning meltdown like we've seen from Liberatore a few times this season. Fortunately, one run is all the Rockies would get after a bonehead baserunning error as Karros was doubled off of second on a ball caught by Winn.
The St. Louis Cardinals would seize back the lead in the bottom of the 1st inning when Iván Herrera ripped a two-out double to left. Alec Burleson would strike out, but reach first on a passed ball charged to Goodman. That would bring up José Fermín who would provide a true big league 8-pitch at-bat eventually pulling an 82 mph knuckle-curve into the left field corner scoring both Herrera and Burleson giving the Cardinals a temporary 2-1 lead.
Liberatore would run into trouble in the top of the 3rd inning, too. With one out, McCarthy would reach first on an infield single. Matthew then hit Karros with a pitch giving Colorado runners on first and second. Both those runners would steal off of of Herrera before Carrigg would double to center scoring both runners and giving the Rockies a 3-2 lead. They would add more more when Goodman singled to right making it 4-2 Colorado.
The Cardinals would miss a great chance to either tie or take the lead in the bottom of the 4th inning when they would load the bases on a Fermín walk, a Blaze Jordan single and a hit-by-pitch from newcomer Everson Pereira. With two outs, JJ Wetherholt would hit a laser shot with the bases loaded that unfortunately was directed right at Rockies centerfielder Cole Carrigg to end the threat.

Couto Pereira witnessed a hilarious episode this Saturday (8) involving center-back Jacy during the clash between Coritiba and Chapecoense.
The home team captain found the net from a set piece and, during the celebration, jumped over one of the advertising boards by the side of the pitch.
The problem is that right where he decided to do it, there is one of the stairways leading onto the field.
When he landed on the other side of the advertising board, Jacy went straight into the tunnel, causing concern among his teammates.
To make matters worse, the goal was later disallowed for offside.

Aug. 6—GRAND FORKS — The UND football team wore full pads and brought in local officials on Thursday morning as the Fighting Hawks went through fall camp Day 8.
Here are five observations from practice.
Although the offense has had the better of the defense the last few days, UND's true freshmen defensive tackles — twins Mason Beaver and Isaac Beaver of Kearney, Mo. — have shown a knack for getting into the backfield.
Early during live hitting, Mason brought down UND hard-nosed running back Griffin Broderick. Later, Isaac had a five-play stretch in which he was in the backfield twice — the second time he flushed quarterback Jack Sulik for what might have been a quarterback sack.
UND has shown at fall camp it's planning to start Logyn Eckheart and Albany transfer Kylyn Macklin at tackle, but the Beaver twins are pushing the next mix along with Eastern Illinois transfer Kefa Pereira (6-1, 305) and Tyler Henry.
