Speaking during his inauguration, de la Espriella said Colombia would pursue an energy transition — a shift away from oil, gas and coal toward cleaner energy sources such as wind and solar power — but insisted it must not come at the expense of the country's oil and gas industry.
"I believe in the energy transition," he said. "But that transition must be built from strength, not from weakness, from self-sufficiency and not from dependence."
The remarks reinforce a sharp shift from former President Gustavo Petro, who stopped awarding new oil and gas exploration contracts while pushing Colombia toward renewable energy and making protection of the Amazon a centerpiece of his environmental agenda. WORCESTER — With Boston Red Sox brass and fans in wait-and-see mode around Monday's 6 p.m. MLB trade deadline, the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox will welcome Lehigh Valley nearly 24 hours later to kick off a six-game homestand at Polar Park.
As all eyes and ears fixate on rumors swirling around the Red Sox, and what Boston chief baseball officer Craig Breslow is (or isn't) doing heading into the trade deadline, the WooSox cruised to their fifth-straight win on Sunday in Norfolk, Va.
While no big moves were made (as of Monday morning) involving anyone from AAA Worcester, the Red Sox' recent resurgence in the standings flipped the franchise from pretenders to contenders at the deadline — which makes what's happening with the WooSox a little more pressing at the moment.

At the All-Star Break's conclusion, I wrote on expectations, and their virtue as an exercise with this franchise towards a more hopeful future near and far. These Seattle Mariners, 3.0 games back of the AL West and the third Wild Card spot alike, have earned little and less belief. They've played poorly, wasted chances, and frittered opportunities to cleanse their palates. Much has rightly been made of the necessity for the core players to perform at or near the standards they've set for several years. But Seattle is giving up massive production on the fringes, and they've forced themselves into an uncomfortable, desperate position.
It is time for them to call up Michael Arroyo.
Seattle needs right-handed hitting, and with J.P. Crawford sidelined at least for several weeks, there is no easy solution at third base. Brendan Donovan returns on Tuesday to rotate around the field, but it's hard to look at the lineup as constructed and see anywhere for him to play more frequently than the hot corner. Arroyo has played some third base, but it's realistically not where he could be thrown in, although his defense is less egregious and more limited if asked to play second base or corner outfield. But they need his bat, because the Mariners need to take some risks, and rotating Weston Wilson, Victor Robles, Rob Refsnyder, Leo Rivas, and Mitch Garver through to take flaccid swing after flaccid swing is a Wile. E. Coyote kind of road that the Mariners have been slamming into the wall of all summer. The Rainiers' roster is stocked with similar players who've struggled to set themselves apart this year and over many years, from Connor Joe to Patrick Wisdom to Stuart Fairchild, along with injured options like Ryan Bliss and Brennen Davis. With Luke Raley seemingly ailing, the M's have to be more aggressive to rev up their offense before it's too late.

The 5'10, compact youngster has never been at the top of Seattle's prospect list, but has hit his way into top-100 status nationally over the past couple seasons, with an approach I first wrote about in the winter before the 2024 season. His abrupt decision to abandon plans to sell a stake in FIFA's commercial rights to private equity marks a rare and significant political defeat, exposing the limits of his authority and raising new questions about his future leadership.

The EMA GARP Fund stated the following regarding Aris Mining Corporation (NYSE:ARIS) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"The miners are way, way too cheap at present gold and silver prices. And their earnings outlook is robust at higher bullion prices given the substantial operating leverage. Miner industry profitability is as good as it's been at any point in the last 25 years. Two Miner Case Studies are outlined – Aris Mining Corporation (NYSE:ARIS) and Avino. Crazy cheap and massive asymmetry.
Aris is an emerging mid-tier producer with two operating mines in Colombia (Marmato and Segovia) and two large development projects, one in Colombia and one in Guyana. In 2025, they produced 257,000 ounces of gold. Their average selling cost was $3,526/ounce and their average mining cost (AISC) was $1,705/ounce. So, their gross mine profit was $467 million. In 2026, they have guided production between 300,000 and 350,000 ounces at similar costs. The mid-point of guidance equals a 26% growth in ounces produced. They have plans to increase the production in the existing mines after 2026 and their target is to become a 1 million ounce producer within 5 years. In the Q1 2026, they generated EBITDA of $212 million (a run rate of $800 million per year which is the same as the Bloomberg consensus estimates). So, the Company is trading at only 3.75x EBITDA. This compares favorably to the average EBITDA multiple of the S&P 500 which is currently 17x and even more so compared to the MAG-7 stocks which trade at an average multiple of 28x..." Argentina's massive shale oil and gas boom is going from strength to strength. The economically crisis-prone South American country yet again reported record monthly oil and natural gas production for May 2026. This couldn't come at a better time for Argentina and South America. Rising global geopolitical risks, notably due to war in the Middle East, and domestic economic hazards hold the potential to derail the significant economic gains Argentina has made over the last two years.
Ministry of Economy data shows May 2026 oil production hit an all-time high of 887,227 barrels per day. This represents a 0.6% increase month over month and is an impressive 19% greater than the same period a year earlier. Natural gas output also rose to 5.5 billion cubic feet per day, which was just shy of the record 5.7 billion cubic feet daily reported for July 2025. Indeed, May 2026 natural gas production was 5.4% greater than a month prior and a stunning 11% higher year over year.
It is the massive shale boom underway in the 8.6-million-acre Vaca Muerta formation that is responsible for this solid production growth. For May 2026, shale oil comprised 70.6% of Argentina's total oil production, while shale gas made up 69.8% of total output. Those ratios are at record highs for shale oil and gas as a proportion of Argentina's total hydrocarbon output. This is a game changer for Argentina, which recently overtook Colombia to cement its place as South America's fourth largest oil producer.
The Vaca Muerta shale formation, which is regularly compared to the Eagle Ford shale, is in the early stages of development. Drillers in the formation are still in that phase of deciding where the core producing areas are located. The Vaca Muerta is regarded as one of the most promising unconventional oil and gas plays globally, containing an estimated 16 billion barrels of recoverable oil and 308 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas resources. This all points to tremendous future unconventional hydrocarbon production growth for Argentina.
Many of the Vaca Muerta shale formation's characteristics are superior to U.S. shales, even the prolific Permian, which is the largest oil-producing basin in the United States. The formation's shale is significantly thicker than the Permian, with it estimated to be at least double the width, allowing for more horizontal landings per pad and more frac stages per well. The Vaca Muerta's organic content exceeds that found in most U.S. shale plays, while its reservoir pressure is significantly higher.

The Hoosiers are representing the USA in the event that brings together college athletes from North, Central and South America and the Caribbean for a competition across 15 sports. The participating teams in basketball include Chili, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Virgin Islands, Peru and Team USA. The top two teams in each pool advance to the elimination rounds on Saturday.

Tom Dele-Bashiru has left Watford to sign for Super League Greece side Aris Thessaloniki on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old midfielder joined the Hornets from Manchester City in 2019 and played 81 times, scoring eight goals.

Indiana is representing the USA this year with a new-look roster that only features one returning scholarship player from last season. The Hoosiers were allowed to practice together throughout the summer while preparing for the FISU games. The event itself will give IU coach Darian DeVries a chance to evaluate his roster playing in competitive situations.
