From my own Bears-centric view of things, the Chicago Bears under Ryan Poles seem to have had a pretty rare set of conditions to help usher along a rebuild. In his first five years on the job, Poles had four selections in the top third of the first round (i.e. Top 11 picks) including the #1 overall pick. However, there is a caveat: the signing would not be for the first team – at least not right now. According to Diario AS, Real Madrid are seeking to sign Sergio Martinez from fellow La Liga side Real Racing Club de Santander. The 19-year-old, who scored a spectacular goal in the 2-2 draw against Villarreal last weekend, can be signed for only €3m, which is the value of his release clause.
Real Madrid are one of several clubs to have informed Racing of their intention to sign Martinez. Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Wales midfielder Jordan James on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Clay Holmes looked much more like the pitcher that the Chicago Cubs hoped they were getting at the MLB trade deadline after acquiring him from the New York Mets.
Holmes began his second start for the Cubs with five perfect innings versus the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday. Perhaps even more impressive, he did so by only striking out two batters. Otherwise, Holmes recorded groundouts on seven of his first 15 outs.
The Cardinals got their first hit with one out in the sixth on a José Fermín single. But Holmes kept St. Louis off the board by getting César Prieto on a forceout to second base, followed by a JJ Wetherholt groundout.
Holmes eventually finished with 1 hit allowed in 6 2/3 innings. He was relieved by Ryan Rolison after walking Jordan Walker with two outs in the seventh inning.

His efforts have won him a nickname: "Rescate" ('Rescue').
When Monday's 7.4-magnitude earthquake pummeled western Colombia, the 67-year-old was at home, near the city of Pereira, in the country's coffee-growing region that was close to the epicenter of the disaster. A wall in his house collapsed, but Pineda was unhurt and decided to help those who might have been less fortunate.
"All I did was grab some gloves ... grab a helmet, and go save lives," Pineda told Reuters.

We're almost there -- the New Orleans Saints released their first unofficial depth chart ahead of Saturday's preseason game with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and for the most part, it's what you expect. The starting offensive line looks like what we've seen at training camp. It's the same pecking order at running back with Kendre Miller at RB3, even while he's missed several days of practice reps with an injury. Backups like Audric Estime and Devin Neal need to do more with their own reps to unseat him (and in Neal's case, also get healthy). But there are some points of note and takeaways from this first depth chart. It's important to remember this is an unofficial document made for media purposes, not a set-in-stone reflection of how the team is operating at practice every day. Coaches are going to stack some of these positions differently.
And here is what we learned:
There isn't much of a buffer between Simpkins (an undrafted free agent last year) and Wright (a rookie fourth-round pick) and the opportunity to play under the bright lights. Both backups are listed on the second-string offense behind Erik McCoy and Cesar Ruiz, respectively. And that's before Dillon Radunz goes on injured reserve. The Saints listed Radunz as the backup left guard but he's been practicing ahead of Wright until his recent knee injury. We may see William Sherman get the nod in a pinch, but look for Wright to log a ton of snaps this preseason.
This may not be too surprising if you've been keeping up with the daily highlight reels from practice, but being drafted in Round 6 doesn't mean you're a slam dunk to make the team. Brown followed that up by making some big catches in team drills, routinely getting open in one-on-one sessions, and standing out during special teams periods. He's listed as the immediate backup behind Chris Olave on the second-team offense as well the primary returner on both punts and kickoffs. He's still behind Jordyn Tyson and Devaughn Vele, sure. Brown is on the fast track to not just make the 53-man roster but to see meaningful snaps on Sundays.
The workload for respected veterans like Cameron Jordan and Alvin Kamara has been obvious. On June 11th, mired in a miserable 3-for-55 stretch that included a 49.1 K% and a wRC+ of -22 in a 17-game stretch that spanned from May 20th to the aforementioned June 11th, the date of demotion, for Cardinals' former 1st-round pick Nolan Gorman. The Cardinals subsequently called up Blaze Jordan to fill the primary 3rd base duties in Nolan Gorman's absence and has performed admirably in his place, but has surely left a lot to be desired, producing a .255/.279/.372 slash with only 1 HR, hit in his 2nd big league game, and has an OPS below .700 at.651.
The one area that Blaze has seemingly overperformed expectations has been on the defensive side, producing +4 OAA. Jordan doesn't strike out (13.6%), but he also doesn't walk (3.2%), and his chase rate is (34.7%), which is well below average, about 10% below which should be a significant point of emphasis in the offseason. Somehow Blaze Jordan has become Yohel Pozo with a little more positional versatility. Blaze Jordan has displayed a weak-side platoon-sized split, producing a 122 wRC+ against LHP while mustering a paltry 52 wRC+ against RHP.
Jose Fermin is another player who has filled in at 3rd base the last couple of months, producing a .240/.307/.359 overall this season as he has rotated between 2nd, 3rd, LF, and CF primarily. What Fermin lacks in impact, he makes up for in quality of his at-bats. Producing an above-average chase rate of only 21.9%, a whiff% of 13.9%, and a K rate of only 12.9%. Fermin's bat speed, HH%, and xSLG are all areas that Fermin is well below league average. After signing Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios for Fulham, Alvaro Arbeloa had set his sights on another young prospect from Real Madrid in the form of Thiago Pitarch.
Indeed, the former Los Blancos boss was keen on reuniting the 18-year-old midfield prospect who was one of the few highlights of his short-lived tenure as the first-team manager at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Considering that Real Madrid are well-stocked in midfield, the possibility of Thiago Pitarch, currently sidelined with an injury, seemed genuine as well.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Pitarch is no longer expected to join Fulham in the current summer transfer window.

After bringing Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios to Fulham, Alvaro Arbeloa has now identified a third Real Madrid youngster, Thiago Pitarch, as another priority.
The midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season and, now, according to Cadena SER, Fulham are showing concrete interest in the 18-year-old midfield prodigy.
As such, Real Madrid now face a decision: cash in on one of La Fabrica's brightest prospects or continue backing his development at the club.
Pitarch was one of the positives for Real Madrid last season. The academy graduate made his senior bow against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League under Arbeloa.
Interestingly, Benfica were managed that night by Jose Mourinho, who is now Pitarch's head coach at Real Madrid.
