Investors hammered Cooper Companies (COO) on Thursday after the medtech's fiscal third-quarter sales lagged Wall Street's expectations, leading to a guidance cut.
Specifically, the CooperVision segment — which sells contact lenses — missed expectations by 4.5%, William Blair **** yst Steven Lichtman said in a report. The miss was due to destocking. Further, the company opted against selling its CooperSurgical business following a strategic review.

Aug. 31 (UPI) -- The legal team for singer D4vd withdrew from his murder case Monday as he sought the services of a public defender.
The switch came during the arraignment of D4vd, whose birth name is David Burke. He and his former attorneys Blair Berk and Regina Peters informed the court and Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo that he will be using a public defender moving forward.
Walid Fouad Kandeel, Burke's new attorney, was in the gallery before being called forward by the judge to introduce himself to the court. He asked for a continuation of Monday's arraignment so he could better familiarize himself with the case but was denied.

The Wall Street Journal reported on August 14, 2026, that PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL) is in talks to sell itself to a group including Stripe and private equity firm Advent International after Stripe and Advent's initial July offer of $60.50 a share was rejected as too low, with the two sides now negotiating a higher price.
PayPal's market value has collapsed from a 2021 peak of about $360 billion to as low as roughly $36 billion this year. Now the company built by early digital-payments pioneers is negotiating its own sale.
That raises the real question: does a Stripe-Advent deal rescue PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL)'s business at a fair price, or does it confirm the company simply couldn't turn around its slowing growth alone?
The initial $60.50-per-share offer represented roughly a 28% premium to PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL)'s prior closing price and was backed by about $50 billion in committed bank financing. The Department of Defense continues to dole out lucrative contracts as the Pentagon looks to modernize and upgrade its supply chain. Boeing on Monday won a $131 billion contract covering the F-15 fighter jet fleet. The Missile Development Agency granted Parsons a contract extension worth more than $500 million. General Dynamics landed an armored vehicle contract. Elsewhere, William Blair lifted its 2027 targets for Booz Allen Hamilton after the company closed a $720 million acquisition.

The Air Force on Monday awarded Boeing (BA) a $131.23 billion contract to support the F-15 Eagle Crest program, which oversees the F-15 fighter jet fleet. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract covers aircraft production, systems integration, modernization, upgrades, retrofits and sustainment. The contract also calls for Boeing to establish organic depot maintenance capabilities for F-15 Eagle weapons systems for the Air Force, Air National Guard and other Department of Defense customers.
"Organic depot maintenance" refers to government facilities that do not rely on support from commercial contractors.
The DOD said Boeing will perform the work at its St. Louis, Missouri facility and it expects to complete it by August 2037. The ordering period for the contract runs to Aug. 24, 2031, with an option to extend to Aug. 24, 2036.

In the latest round of meetings, the U.S. is angling for Israel's approval of the road map. There is a lot at stake, including the lives of some 2 million Palestinians in Gaza, the reconstruction of the demolished enclave and future control over the territory.
Hamas says it has agreed to the road map, which includes disarmament, and the group is urging mediators and the U.S.-created Board of Peace to "compel" Israel to sign on as well. But Israel, which under the road map must withdraw from Gaza, says Hamas must fully disarm before any Israeli withdrawal will occur.
Israeli troops occupy about 60% of the strip and Netanyahu has previously threatened to advance.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Board of Peace Director Nickolay Mladenov were also in the meeting with Netanyahu, according to a source familiar with the plans and a diplomatic source. Both spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a closed-door meeting.

"Not the post I planned on writing this time of year but here we are," was posted on her social media. "Since the Olympics, I've been suffering from reoccurring post concussive symptoms- which has made it impossible to prepare and train for the upcoming season. Therefore, I will not be competing for the 2026/27 season. If all goes well I hope to be back in a sled before the end of the Winter season, but time will tell. There will be time later to discuss details, but for now- I start intensive therapy today so if you see me around and I'm not my normal personable self- it's definitely not you- rehab is very very demanding. I love everyone who has supported me all these years and always love to meet you and take pictures- just forgive me if I'm not my best self at the moment. I will be soon...recovery in progress."
At the Milan Cortina Games, Meyers Taylor won the monobob to become, at age 41, the oldest individual event gold medalist in Winter Olympic history.
It was her sixth career medal, tying retired speed skater Bonnie Blair for the most Winter Olympic medals for an American woman.

Four-star center Kamsi Awaka has narrowed his list of offers to five schools, he told Rivals. Moving forward, the 6-foot-10 rising senior out of Blair Academy (NJ) will consider Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, and UConn.

SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ:SOFI) just posted the best quarter in its history, and the stock fell anyway. Membership hit a record, loan originations hit a record, and tangible book value grew faster than almost anyone expected. Yet shares dropped roughly 9% the day the numbers came out, part of a stretch that has left the stock down nearly 42% this year. The gap between what the business is doing and what the market is doing has rarely been this wide.
The growth engine behind that record quarter keeps compounding. SoFi added 1.1 million new members in FQ2 2026, a record, pushing its base to 15.8 million people, up 35% year over year. What matters more is how it is selling to them: 51% of new products went to existing members, up from 43% the prior quarter and 35% a year earlier, and the average member now uses 1.54 products, up from 1.46 twelve months ago. That is a company getting cheaper to grow, since selling another product to someone already banking with you costs far less than acquiring a stranger.
The balance sheet backs up that growth. Tangible book value jumped 80% year over year to $9.5 billion, or $7.34 per share, while deposits reached $45.5 billion and the total capital ratio sat at 18.8%, comfortably above the 10.5% regulatory minimum. Loan originations hit a record $14.8 billion, up 69%, and the personal loan charge-off rate actually fell 21 basis points even as that book expanded, a sign SoFi is not chasing volume by loosening standards. SoFi's brokerage arm was also among the firms chosen for the record-breaking ***** e Exploration Technologies IPO, and brokerage revenue climbed 141% for the quarter. William Blair's Andrew Jeffrey called the results reason to "aggressively accumulate" the stock, arguing the larger balance sheet efficiently supports management's 20% to 30% long-term return-on-equity target.

None of that explains why the profit outlook didn't move. Management raised full-year adjusted net revenue guidance to $4.75 billion to $4.85 billion, up from $4.66 billion, but left adjusted EBITDA guidance at $1.6 billion and adjusted earnings per share at $0.60. More revenue with no more profit attached is exactly the kind of detail the market prices quickly. CEO Anthony Noto pointed to a shift in the bank's own rate expectations, from two cuts to two hikes this year, as the reason for the caution, alongside a choice to reinvest rather than bank the upside.

Washington Commanders' newly signed linebacker Odafe Oweh entered the NFL in 2021. He attended Penn State University for three seasons before entering the draft, but before committing to the Nittany Lions, Oweh had only been playing football for a couple of years. Previously, his sport was basketball, but when he got kicked off the basketball team, he turned to football.
Oweh was asked about his history with football after the Commanders' training camp practice concluded on Tuesday.
"It's the craziest story," Oweh replies. "I had to switch my career last second. I got kicked off the basketball team, and I had to make a decision. Am I going to keep trying to be LeBron James, or am I going to pivot and find my Plan B? And I did, gladly. The second school that I ended up going to, Blair Academy, they actually made me play two sports. So I wouldn't have even had to play basketball if it wasn't that. That was the only school that was trying to admit me and everything, so it was kind of God shifting things in my place.
"I started playing when I was 16. I redid my junior year, and after that, the rest is history."
Oweh goes on to talk about how college scouts started to recruit him after one season. Rutgers was one of the first to reach out, but after that, he heard from places like Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, and Florida, among others. He talked about how he never thought schools of that caliber would ever take a chance on a guy who'd only been playing for one year, yet they were.

AstraZeneca (AZN) stock took a nosedive Monday amid reports it's mulling a megamerger with Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY).
The combined company would be worth roughly $400 billion, "making it one of the biggest pharmaceutical mergers in history," RBC Capital Markets ******* yst Trung Huynh said in a report. The Financial Times first reported the early merger talks. AstraZeneca declined to comment to Investor's Business Daily. Bristol Myers didn't immediately respond.
The deal would merge two oncology powerhouses, and likely trigger an antitrust review. Bristol Myers fills portfolio gaps in blood cancer, immunology, cardiovascular diseases and central nervous system conditions where AstraZeneca lacks scale today, Huynh said.
AstraZeneca stock tumbled 6.9% to 157.97. Shares are already trading below their 21-day, 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Bristol Myers Squibb stock, on the other hand, inched a fraction higher to 65.47. The stock ended the regular session in a buy zone that runs up to 66.03.
Given the size of the two companies, the deal would likely be mostly stock-based, resulting in Bristol Myers shareholders owning roughly a third of the combined company, William Blair ******* yst Matt Phipps said in a client note.
