Linda Blair once took a hiatus from acting to compete on the equestrian circuit under an alias
After the success of The Exorcist — and its sequel Exorcist II: The Heretic underperforming — the actress told PEOPLE that she was enjoying a break from Hollywood
"There's no falseness or garbage here in Connecticut. I've got my dogs, my good guy and a beautiful life—it's really me," she said to PEOPLE in July 1977
Following her star-making turn in 1974's The Exorcist, Linda Blair took a hiatus from acting to explore another of her passions — horseback riding.
Now 67, a young Blair spoke about her break from acting and her love of horses in a July 1977 story for PEOPLE, saying she was "really into acting" but didn't want "a plastic life."

Four-star center Kamsi Awaka has narrowed his list of offers to five schools, he told Rivals. Moving forward, the 6-foot-10 rising senior out of Blair Academy (NJ) will consider Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, and UConn.
Awaka is ranked as the No. 65 overall recruit in the 2027 class and the No. 8 ranked center, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an average of all three major recruiting media companies (Rivals, ESPN, 247Sports).
He is the younger brother of former Arizona big man Tobe Awaka, the 2025-26 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year.
In addition to his finalists, he also received offers from Maryland, Georgia Tech, Providence, and others.
On the adidas 3SSB Circuit this summer, Awaka averaged 13.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game playing for New Heights.

SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ:SOFI) just posted the best quarter in its history, and the stock fell anyway. Membership hit a record, loan originations hit a record, and tangible book value grew faster than almost anyone expected. Yet shares dropped roughly 9% the day the numbers came out, part of a stretch that has left the stock down nearly 42% this year. The gap between what the business is doing and what the market is doing has rarely been this wide.
The growth engine behind that record quarter keeps compounding. SoFi added 1.1 million new members in FQ2 2026, a record, pushing its base to 15.8 million people, up 35% year over year. What matters more is how it is selling to them: 51% of new products went to existing members, up from 43% the prior quarter and 35% a year earlier, and the average member now uses 1.54 products, up from 1.46 twelve months ago. That is a company getting cheaper to grow, since selling another product to someone already banking with you costs far less than acquiring a stranger.
The balance sheet backs up that growth. Tangible book value jumped 80% year over year to $9.5 billion, or $7.34 per share, while deposits reached $45.5 billion and the total capital ratio sat at 18.8%, comfortably above the 10.5% regulatory minimum. Loan originations hit a record $14.8 billion, up 69%, and the personal loan charge-off rate actually fell 21 basis points even as that book expanded, a sign SoFi is not chasing volume by loosening standards. SoFi's brokerage arm was also among the firms chosen for the record-breaking ***** e Exploration Technologies IPO, and brokerage revenue climbed 141% for the quarter. William Blair's Andrew Jeffrey called the results reason to "aggressively accumulate" the stock, arguing the larger balance sheet efficiently supports management's 20% to 30% long-term return-on-equity target.
Pixabay/Public Domain
None of that explains why the profit outlook didn't move. Management raised full-year adjusted net revenue guidance to $4.75 billion to $4.85 billion, up from $4.66 billion, but left adjusted EBITDA guidance at $1.6 billion and adjusted earnings per share at $0.60. More revenue with no more profit attached is exactly the kind of detail the market prices quickly. CEO Anthony Noto pointed to a shift in the bank's own rate expectations, from two cuts to two hikes this year, as the reason for the caution, alongside a choice to reinvest rather than bank the upside.

Washington Commanders' newly signed linebacker Odafe Oweh entered the NFL in 2021. He attended Penn State University for three seasons before entering the draft, but before committing to the Nittany Lions, Oweh had only been playing football for a couple of years. Previously, his sport was basketball, but when he got kicked off the basketball team, he turned to football.
Oweh was asked about his history with football after the Commanders' training camp practice concluded on Tuesday.
"It's the craziest story," Oweh replies. "I had to switch my career last second. I got kicked off the basketball team, and I had to make a decision. Am I going to keep trying to be LeBron James, or am I going to pivot and find my Plan B? And I did, gladly. The second school that I ended up going to, Blair Academy, they actually made me play two sports. So I wouldn't have even had to play basketball if it wasn't that. That was the only school that was trying to admit me and everything, so it was kind of God shifting things in my place.
"I started playing when I was 16. I redid my junior year, and after that, the rest is history."
Oweh goes on to talk about how college scouts started to recruit him after one season. Rutgers was one of the first to reach out, but after that, he heard from places like Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, and Florida, among others. He talked about how he never thought schools of that caliber would ever take a chance on a guy who'd only been playing for one year, yet they were.

Palantir shares surged north by more than 27% on Tuesday after the company reported quarterly earnings that CEO Alex Karp called "otherworldly" in a call with ******* ysts Monday evening.
While some ******* ysts were quick to frame the nearly 30% pop as recovery from a sell-off through June and July that saw Palantir wrapped into the doubts around the staying power of the software sector, the run-up extends a rally going back to 2024 that has seen the stock price boom from roughly $25 to more than $150 per share in only two years.
That shift in share price can really be traced back to the 2023 launch of Palantir's AIP platform, said Louie DiPalma, an industrials sector ******* yst at William Blair.
The company's existing platforms — Gotham for government operations and Foundry for the commercial sector — allowed customers to fuse massive amounts of disparate data and perform complex ******* ysis of that data. AIP, released in April 2023 shortly after OpenAI debuted ChatGPT the previous November, allowed customers on both platforms to connect large language models to their existing datasets, layering AI-powered ******* ysis and computation on top of Gotham and Foundry.

AstraZeneca (AZN) stock took a nosedive Monday amid reports it's mulling a megamerger with Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY).
The combined company would be worth roughly $400 billion, "making it one of the biggest pharmaceutical mergers in history," RBC Capital Markets ******* yst Trung Huynh said in a report. The Financial Times first reported the early merger talks. AstraZeneca declined to comment to Investor's Business Daily. Bristol Myers didn't immediately respond.
The deal would merge two oncology powerhouses, and likely trigger an antitrust review. Bristol Myers fills portfolio gaps in blood cancer, immunology, cardiovascular diseases and central nervous system conditions where AstraZeneca lacks scale today, Huynh said.
AstraZeneca stock tumbled 6.9% to 157.97. Shares are already trading below their 21-day, 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Bristol Myers Squibb stock, on the other hand, inched a fraction higher to 65.47. The stock ended the regular session in a buy zone that runs up to 66.03.
Given the size of the two companies, the deal would likely be mostly stock-based, resulting in Bristol Myers shareholders owning roughly a third of the combined company, William Blair ******* yst Matt Phipps said in a client note. He says $160 billion makes sense as a price tag for Bristol Myers Squibb.

An inspection of Linda Blair's kennel has revealed 251 dogs on her 2.5-acre property, according to L.A. County authorities.
Additionally, the organization received Orders to Comply to "correct deficits in housing facilities and sanitation."
Blair has said she's looking at the positive: "We now have more light shed on animal welfare and animal rescues."
The inspection of Linda Blair's kennel operation has resulted in several citations, including one for housing 251 dogs on the property.
Acting on complaints about overcrowding and unsanitary conditions at a 2.5-acre property occupied by the Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) and Department of Regional Planning executed a warrant on July 31.

Linda Blair says her dog rescue remains under control after authorities found 251 animals at her Southern California property. The Exorcist star maintains that paperwork and permit issues, not the dogs' welfare, triggered the investigation. Officials found no signs that the animals were sick or injured. However, the county's review remains active as neighbors question the number of dogs housed at the facility.
Authorities served an investigative warrant at Blair's 2.5-acre property after the kennel's permits reportedly expired in 2023, TMZ reported. The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning said officials had made 24 attempts to arrange inspections over three years.
Officials counted 251 dogs while checking structures and possible code violations. Law enforcement told the outlet that "no dogs showed signs of illness or injury," and authorities did not remove any animals.
Blair addressed the search in a Facebook video. "I am fine, the animals are fine," she said, describing the dispute as a matter involving paperwork and updated property diagrams. She also said she had been trying to relocate so she could expand her rescue work.
The new information follows an earlier search of Blair's property, which initially focused on a kennel believed to house more than 100 dogs. The latest count more than doubled that estimate.

Linda Blair is speaking out after authorities searched her Southern California property as part of an investigation into a reported kennel operation housing more than 100 dogs.
The 67-year-old actress, best known for starring in "The Exorcist," addressed the search in an Instagram post on July 31, saying she and the animals on the property were "good" following what she described as a surprise visit.
"Turns out we just have some paperwork to do and some diagrams," Blair wrote. "But as everybody knows, I'm looking to move so I can be more educational and help more animals."
Blair also suggested county officials should have contacted her by mail, writing that "a good old-fashioned letter of contact always works." In a video accompanying the post, she said she has been trying to relocate for the past two years to expand her animal rescue efforts and emphasized that the animals on the property were safe.
The search was conducted under an inspection warrant as part of a joint operation involving the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control and the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning, according to reports from People and Fox 8.

Investment firm William Blair recently cut its estimates for Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN), the largest U.S. cryptocurrency exchange. Interestingly, it also reiterated an outperform rating for Coinbase, suggested that clients stay invested, and advised that the crypto market could be near its bottom.
Coinbase stock has plummeted over the last year, from an all-time high of $445 on July 17, 2025, to $157 as of July 17, 2026. Here are the details on William Blair's ***** ysis and whether this is a good buying opportunity for Coinbase.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
William Blair reduced annual revenue estimates for Coinbase by 12% in 2026 and 13% in 2027. It also cut its EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) estimates by 34% for both years, and it expects Coinbase's trading volume to fall 44% to $669 billion in 2026.
These predictions make sense when you consider Coinbase's dependence on the crypto market and how the bear market has already affected it. Coinbase reported revenue of $1.4 billion in Q1 2026, a 31% year-over-year decrease. The crypto exchange also had a net loss of $394 million that quarter, compared to net income of $66 million in Q1 2025.

Fiserv (FISV) stock rose Tuesday on a report that the financial services company could sell its debit card payment processing network to a group of banks.
The banks interested in acquiring Fiserv's debit network include JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Bank of America (BAC), Wells Fargo (WFC) and PNC Financial Services Group (PNC), the Wall Street Journal reported.
At William Blair, ***** yst Andrew Jeffrey said a deal is unlikely. "A deal seems unlikely given regulatory and likely large merchant pushback," he said in a report. Texas A&M coach Michael Earley entered his second full offseason with plenty of pressure from the Aggie fan base to make significant changes to the coaching staff, starting with replacing second-year pitching coach Jason Kelley, which came to fruition just days after the Aggies fell to USC in the College Station Regional.
After hiring MLB pitching coach/coordinator Barry Enright, former ***** ociate head coach and recruiting ace Nolan Cain returned to the staff after two seasons serving in the same capacity with Texas, which was quite the shock given the Longhorns' success after making it to the College World Series before falling to Georgia.

Texas A&M's latest addition, Oklahoma transfer outfielder Alec Blair, will make his way to College Station after helping the Sooners win a national ***** le last month, as the former blue-chip prospect and dual-sport athlete brings plenty of promise to what looks like an established lineup, even with the departures.
According to D1Baseball's Joe Healy, Blair is on track to take another step in his development, especially after forcing the coaching staff to place him in the lineup due to his immense talent during his freshman season.

There is a hard reality to the past, present and maybe future in Zac Blair's professional career.
The 35-year-old, who stands tied for third place on a tightly packed leaderboard heading into Sunday's final round of the John Deere Classic, sports a heavy red beard now. It looks like a lumbar jack's movie makeup for those who remember him as the youngster whose cherubic face seemed to match the Utah native's affable demeanor.
In his first couple of seasons on the PGA Tour, Blair got onto the leaderboard with some regularity, and 10 years ago he opened the season with a tie for third at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
That year, Blair made bigger headlines for banging his putter against his head at the Well Fargo Championship and being disqualified for using an altered piece of equipment. It would be another seven seasons before he eclipsed his previous best finish with a T-2 in the 2023 Travelers Championship.
He won the 2019 Ellie Mae Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour, but, mostly, Blair has lived on the edge of eligibility on the PGA Tour. "Playing golf is pretty stressful," he said on Saturday after shooting four-under-par 67 at TPC Deere Run in Sylvis, Ill. That result got Blair to 15 under for the tournament, only one shot back of co-leaders Lucas Glover (69) and Lee Hodges (67).

Third baseman Ethan Surowiec re-signed his NIL agreement with Florida Victorious on Monday, signaling his return to the Gators should he turn down a draft offer.
A draft-eligible sophomore, Surowiec transferred from Ole Miss last offseason. He broke out as the MVP of the Northwoods League over the summer and became a mainstay in the middle of Florida's lineup. Surowiec started the season switching between first base and third base, but he moved to the hot corner full time by the end of the year.
Surowiec is expected to be drafted next month, but he has the most leverage a college player can have when it comes to negotiating. If he doesn't get the money he wants, he will return to Florida to prove himself for another year. He'll still have good bargaining power as a junior, since he can once again return to school in 2028.
Surowiec was the only Gator to play in and start all 62 games this season. He made 34 starts at third and 28 at first. He led Florida in hits (78), batting average (.317), RBI (63), total bases (130) and at-bats (246). Surowiec hit 12 home runs and scored 53 runs with a .937 OPS.
Seven Florida arms have entered the transfer portal: McCall Biemiller (NC State), Eli Blair (USF), Matthew Jenkins (Charlotte), Rivers Kurland, Cooper Moss (USF), Christian Rodriguez and Cooper Walls (Georgia). Starting second baseman Cade Kurland is headed to LSU, while Infielder Kolt Myers (Grand Canyon) and outfielder Blake Brookins are the two other position players to enter the transfer portal so far.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and elected to bat first in the decisive third Test against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on Thursday. However, the visitors have been dealt a significant setback ahead of the winner-takes-all contest, with two key players ruled out through injury.

The three-match series is finely poised at 1-1. England claimed the opening Test at Lord's by 115 runs before New Zealand responded emphatically with a crushing 253-run victory at The Oval. With valuable ICC World Test Championship points on offer, the Trent Bridge encounter will determine the series winner.
New Zealand have been forced into major changes after pace spearhead Matt Henry and star all-rounder Glenn Phillips were ruled out of the final Test. Henry, who starred in New Zealand's victory at The Oval and recently climbed to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings, misses out with a calf injury. Phillips, meanwhile, has been sidelined due to a side strain.
England have also shuffled their lineup following the heavy defeat in the second Test, with captain Ben Stokes returning to lead the side after being rested at The Oval. Fast bowler Gus Atkinson also returns, while wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith is back after missing the previous Test following the birth of his child. Spinner Shoaib Bashir has been recalled to strengthen England's spin options.

Despite being declared fit, Ollie Robinson has not been included in the playing XI.
New Zealand: Tom Latham (c), Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell (wk), Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, Ben Sears, William O'Rourke

Florida left-handed pitcher Eli Blair, a rising sophomore, is entering the transfer portal. Blair announced the move on Monday on his social media pages.
The 6-foot-8-inch southpaw out of J. R. Arnold High in Panama City Beach, Florida, took the mound nine times as a true freshman. He finished the season with a 4.82 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a 9-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 9 1/3 innings. Blair drew a 48.1% groundball rate and did not allow a home run. Opposing batters hit .278 against him.
Kevin O'Sullivan said the goal was to bring in more left-handed help, which was a signal that his current lefties weren't cutting it. Blair is the third Florida southpaw to enter the portal, joining McCall Biemiller and Rivers Kurland.
Transfer portal from the University of Florida.

Gig Harbor High School athletic director Blair Suek is resigning from her position, The News Tribune has learned.
The Peninsula School District confirmed her departure from the position in an email to The News Tribune.
“Blair Suek is resigning at the end of the school year, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” Peninsula School District chief of schools Michael Farmer wrote in a statement. “The GHHS athletic director position will be posted in the coming days.”
It’s unclear whether Suek’s departure stems from the recent handling of a situation with former Gig Harbor varsity girls basketball coach Michele Hackett.
Hackett was fired after a meeting with Suek in late April, during which Suek told Hackett that the “general consensus was that I wasn’t the best fit for this particular program and community” after postseason discussions with players.
