Clemson football defensive tackle Vic Burley was found by police on Aug. 22 asleep in his truck with the engine running at 2:15 a.m. and showed signs of impairment that led to his arrest, according to an incident report posted by Tigers Illustrated, Clemson's On3 website.
Burley was charged with public disorderly conduct and then suspended indefinitely by the Tigers and coach Dabo Swinney.
According to the report, a Clemson Police officer stopped at the scene when he noticed another person, identified as a male Clemson student, lying in the grass next to the truck on Calhoun Drive. The student stated he was waiting for a friend to give him a ride with his fiancée because they both had been drinking. The student said the truck was his friend's.
The police officer knocked on the windows of the car, received no response, but noticed the shoulder of a person asleep in the driver's seat. A second officer arrived, and they opened the driver's side door, where Burley was found asleep. A "strong odor" of marijuana was detected.
The report said Burley did not initially wake up when the door opened, nor when the truck was turned off. But after Burley woke up, he was unsteady on his feet as he got out of the truck, slurred his speech and "seemed disoriented." His eyes were also drooping, he struggled to remove his identification from his wallet and was slow to respond and did not directly answer questions.

The person hurled the toy during the third quarter of the Dream's 124-88 win, a theme that began last season when objects were thrown onto the court at various games. The **** toy was tossed in front of the Sparks bench as Los Angeles forward Jihyun Park was at the free-throw line.
Before Park attempted her free throw, a referee blew her whistle to stop play. Dream forward Angel Reese quickly pointed out the perpetrator from her seat on the bench; security removed the toy, and arena security apprehended the spectator. In video footage that surfaced on social media, the perpetrator tried to flee the arena after being accused, but police quickly detained the individual.
The WNBA plans to work closely with law enforcement authorities to hold individuals accountable for throwing objects onto the court, according to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly.

NEW YORK (AP) — A civil rights agency accused of halting a ***** ual harassment case filed on behalf of female prison guards is now blaming an administrative judge for doing so in error.
A labor union and two female prison guards sued the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which enforces employment anti-discrimination laws, for indefinitely suspending proceedings in their case as part of a wider effort to halt all federal-sector class claims pending before the agency's administrative judges.
The lawsuit cited an administrative judge's order dated Dec. 10, 2025, stating that the ***** ual harassment case had been paused and that the "notification applies to all class cases in the federal sector."
But in a court document filed Thursday evening, EEOC Chief Operating Officer Sharon Rose said the judge in the case issued the notification "in error" and that it was an "isolated incident." Rose also told the court that the EEOC has transferred the case to another administrative judge, who on Monday issued an order scheduling further proceedings.
The court document also included a letter sent by Justice Department attorney James Harlow to the plaintiffs on Monday, offering the same explanation and asking them to drop their motion for a preliminary injunction.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Aaron Donald formally worked out for the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday, presumably taking one of the final steps before the superstar defensive tackle decides whether to end his 2 1/2-year retirement.
The 35-year-old Donald participated in a hosted workout with the Rams, according to the league's official transaction wire, which records such workouts with free agents before their possible signings to NFL rosters.
Donald has been working out at the Rams' Woodland Hills training complex and at home for several weeks in his attempt to return to NFL shape. While the Rams have emphasized their willingness to wait indefinitely for Donald to decide, coach Sean McVay has expressed cautious optimism in the past week about the prospect of lining up Donald and Myles Garrett together this season on a remarkable defensive line.

Taco Bell has narrowed down its focus on ingredients linked to an ongoing cyclosporiasis outbreak that has sickened thousands of people nationwide. The suspected culprit: lettuce.
The fast-food chain said July 16 it had removed lettuce from one of its suppliers in select states after reports linked the ingredient to the growing cases of the stomach-churning parasitic infection that causes diarrhea and nausea across several states.
"Based on ongoing conversations with public health officials, and out of an abundance of caution, Taco Bell has taken immediate action to voluntarily remove potentially impacted lettuce from a supplier in select states," the company said in a statement.
The lettuce supplied by the vendor would be "indefinitely removed" from its supply chain nationwide and replaced within 24 hours in affected states, according to Taco Bell. The company did not identify the supplier or specify which states were affected by the removal.

A teacher has been banned from the profession indefinitely for smacking a young boy on his bare bottom after he urinated in a school ball pit.
A tribunal panel found Tsvetelina Kaliszan, 44, who worked at Elm Tree Primary Academy in Wednesbury, intended to physically chastise the pupil.
The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) added she did not report her actions to the school on the day of the incident in May 2024.
Kaliszan claimed she "tapped" the pupil and his trousers had not been down at the time, but after hearing from witnesses, the panel found that she had struck his bottom, "specifically two smacks", and that on the balance of probability his bottom was bare.
Kaliszan, who started working at the academy as a class teacher in 2023, was supervising pupils in a soft play area alongside other members of staff in the afternoon, the TRA said.

SEATTLE (AP) — President Donald Trump fired the new top U.S. prosecutor in Seattle on Wednesday less than an hour after the attorney was unanimously appointed by the federal judges in the district, highlighting tensions between the courts and the president over the powerful positions.
Roger Rogoff, a former judge and veteran state and federal prosecutor, was sworn in as U.S. attorney before 8 a.m. at the U.S. courthouse in downtown Seattle. In a phone interview, he said he then went to the U.S. Attorney's Office and asked to meet with Charles Neil Floyd, whose 120-day interim term in the position ended in February.
As he waited in a lobby, Rogoff said, he received an email from the Trump administration informing him he'd been removed. He is consulting with other lawyers about suing over his firing, he said.
Presidents normally appoint U.S. attorneys, the top federal prosecutor in each judicial district. The positions require Senate confirmation, except in temporary appointments. When temporary appointments expire before a nominee is confirmed, the judges in a judicial district can name a U.S. attorney.
But under Trump, the Justice Department has sought to leave unconfirmed prosecutors in their positions indefinitely, often through novel personnel maneuvers.

The car crash that resulted in devastating injuries to ESPN NFL Draft **** yst Matt Miller was caught on camera.
In a new report from the California Post, the outlet published dash cam footage from the vantage point of the semitruck that struck Miller’s vehicle during the accident. The footage shows Miller’s 2023 Ford Bronco veer over the centerline of a two-way road and strike the truck at a high speed. The truck appeared to attempt to maneuver and avoid the collision, but the effort was too late. The driver’s side of Miller’s car appeared to make direct contact with the driver’s side of the semitruck.
Per the California Post, Missouri State Highway Patrol wrote in a crash report that Miller had been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, but the belt was cut and Miller was ejected from his car during the collision. The ESPN **** yst had his left arm amputated as a result of the crash.
Aside from the devastating injuries, Miller’s crash has garnered outsized attention as a result of allegations surfaced by dozens of people following the incident that Miller failed to pay out the winners of fantasy football leagues he ran for charity. After reporting on the allegations, Awful Announcing subsequently reported that the Missouri Attorney General’s Office is opening an investigation into Miller.
Last week, Miller announced on social media that he will be stepping away from ESPN “indefinitely” to recover from his injuries. At face value, the Toronto Raptors trading for Kawhi Leonard is extremely exciting.
Even while he's older, Leonard is the sort of player who could, once again, elevate Toronto to NBA ****** le contender status. Unfortunately, with news that Leonard's trade from the L.A. Clippers is being delayed to allow for continued investigation into the Aspiration scandal (unless the Raptors simply agree to accept all potential Leonard punishments), there's a distinct chance we don't see the all-timer playing in Toronto again.
This Leonard trade snag could also affect the future of a promising and still-ascending young NBA restricted free agent: Peyton Watson.
You see, the Clippers were all too ready to start operating without Leonard's monster $50.3 million salary on their books. That gave them the sort of breathing room to enter earnest contract negotiations with Watson. As it stands, the Clippers appeared to be the only reported team earnestly trying to pry Watson away from the Denver Nuggets, either by giving him a deal the Nuggets wouldn't match or executing a complicated sign-and-trade.
But unless the Raptors agree to accept the conditions of Leonard's possible punishment any time soon, the Clippers and Toronto will have to wait indefinitely for further clarity on the NBA's investigation. That is time inherently taken away from any ongoing Watson talks. And the more time passes in this situation, the more likely the young forward is to accept whatever terms the Nuggets offer to keep him in Denver. This is the case regardless of whether the Leonard trade to Toronto is eventually finalized or whether the Raptors decide to back out once they see a possible Leonard punishment they're uncomfortable with taking on.

ABDIN, Syria (AP) — As Israeli troops and vehicles entered the town of Abdin in southern Syria, residents blocked the roads with rocks, and some young men and boys threw stones to push back the military patrol.
Tensions in this part of the country created by a buffer zone occupied by Israeli forces have flared into violence in recent days, leaving residents anxious that more escalation is coming. Residents of Abdin, located near a U.N.-patrolled buffer zone now controlled by Israeli troops, tried to resist against a military incursion Sunday.
Residents said Israeli troops fired warnings shots at walls and between the angry protesters, before firing artillery rounds at the village. No one was harmed in the exchange, but most residents fled, and most were still too afraid to return on Monday. Many fear that there will now be more intense incursions and raids following the skirmish.
"They come into the village regularly, every few days," said resident Mohammad al-Hassan, standing not far from a group of children looking at an exploded shell. "They come in armored 4x4 vehicles, they roam around the village and search some houses, they knock on doors and if people don't answer the door they break it down and enter the houses. Women and children start screaming, it's a terrifying thing, them coming here."

Two days after three of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's endorsed congressional candidates won their elections in the New York primaries, the NYC Rent Guidelines Board (RGB) delivered another win for the mayor.
On Thursday night, the board voted 7–1 to freeze the rent for 1 million apartments in the city. The rent freeze applies to both one- and two-year leases, and prevents rent increases for more than 40 percent of apartments in the city, reports The New York Times. Those apartments that are covered by the freeze include "high-rise luxury apartments, deeply affordable subsidized units and 150-year-old walk-ups," according to the Times.
Freezing the rent was one of Mamdani's key campaign promises (remember this?), and one that depended on support from the RGB, which is now largely filled with Mamdani's appointees.
New York University Stern School of Business professor Arpit Gupta was the lone dissenting vote. On Thursday, he outlined his opposition to the rental freeze in City Journal, warning that "freezing the price of a service indefinitely while its costs continue to rise does not produce cheap or abundant service. Instead, it produces deteriorating ******* ets and, eventually, public bailouts and takeovers."

Although Mamdani claims rental freezes ensure affordability, Gupta argued these measures benefit New Yorkers based on luck, not need.
"The protection offered by a stabilized lease is effectively a transferable property right, one that can be held for life and, in practice, is often passed down to other family members," he wrote. "A rent freeze increases the value of that right, turning the benefit into something closer to a lottery prize than targeted welfare ******* istance."

After seeing his college football and NFL plans for 2026 fall apart, former Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby appears to have suffered another setback. Multiple reports indicate that the Canadian Football League (CFL) has indefinitely barred any team from signing Sorsby. With each passing day, his football options continue to dwindle.

(NewsNation) — Researchers said they have developed a minimally invasive procedure that may help people keep weight off after stopping popular medications like Ozempic and semaglutide, addressing one of the biggest challenges facing the multibillion-dollar weight-loss drug industry.
The procedure, called duodenal mucosal resurfacing, uses controlled heat to renew the lining of the upper small intestine, potentially "resetting" a person's metabolism to prevent the common weight regain that occurs when patients discontinue GLP-1 medications.
"Finding a treatment that allows patients to stop these medications without weight regain or loss of metabolic benefit is a huge unmet need," said Dr. Shelby Sullivan, director of the Endoscopic Bariatric and Metabolic Program at Dartmouth Health Weight Center and lead author of the research said.

The Justice Department on Friday refused to issue a signed declaration from acting Attorney General Todd Blanche verifying that it no longer intends to pursue President Donald Trump's "Anti-Weaponization Fund."
