As Florida State prepares to visit Alabama football Saturday to complete the back end of a home-and-home series, its football coach, Mike Norvell, is firmly planted on the hottest seat in the ACC. As it turns out, however, athletics director Michael Alford's seat was even hotter.
The school fired Alford Monday after just four years on the job − he got less time than the most high-profile football coaches and less than Norvell himself. Alford's predecessor, David Coburn, had a four-year run of his own. Prior to that, Stan Wilcox lasted just five years in the role. One departure was a resignation, another a retirement, and the third a firing, but collectively, they represent a lot of administrative upheaval.
MOVING ON: Florida State AD Michael Alford fired after four years
BACK FOR MORE: Does Alabama football want 'revenge' heading into Florida State week?
Alabama has been there. And it doesn't want to go back.

A-listers including Claire Danes, Noah Wyle and Kaley Cuoco stepped out to one of the hottest parties ahead of the Emmys: The Motion Picture & Television Fund's big, star-studded bash to raise funds and awareness for the organization.
The party, which was co-hosted by PEOPLE, took place at Pacific Design Center on September 13, 2026 in West Hollywood; it was the 20th annual event, held to raise money for the MPTF organization, which supports members of the entertainment industry in need. Stars from some of the biggest and most Emmy nominated shows on TV, including The Pitt, The Gilded Age, Abbott Elementary and Pluribus, mixed and mingled (and, in some cases, gave us an ER reunion that melted our hearts).

Most investors bury their mistakes in a footnote. Warren Buffett prints his in the shareholder letter, in plain English, with his name on it.
For most of the past decade, the story around Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) (BRK.B) and its industrial businesses was maintenance rather than growth. Railroads, utilities, insurance float, a slow grind of cash into the same pile.
The exciting money went somewhere else. It went into chips, cloud contracts and anything with a graphics processing unit bolted to it.
That framing skipped a physical step. Before one chip in a new data center draws a watt, somebody has to build the machine that produces the watt.
And the hottest, most stressed piece inside that machine is a cast slab of superalloy that only a handful of companies on earth know how to pour without cracking it.

Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) has been one of the hottest stocks to own this year, with its value rising by more than 240% heading into trading this week. At over $1 trillion in market cap, it has joined the illustrious trillion-dollar club this year and become one of the most valuable companies in the world.
And yet, investors remain bullish that it can continue to soar higher due to the impressive growth it's been generating, as tech giants continue to invest heavily in artificial intelligence (AI).

Taylor Swift's star-studded wedding was supposed to be a celebration of love. Still, one guest's startling admission has insiders claiming that the pop star and her husband, Travis Kelce, didn't know everyone at their celebration.
Let's dial it back to July 3 when Hollywood's A-list crowd descended upon Madison Square Garden in New York City to attend the hottest event of the year. The top-secret details are still rather sketchy even two months later because guests reportedly had to sign "ironclad" NDAs to attend the Swift-Kelce wedding, per TMZ.

Every possession between Southside and Westgate football swung the momentum of the game as two 337 heavyweights went toe-to-toe for some Thursday Night Lights.
Each score took the form of a body blow, a right hook or a left jab. In the end, Westgate's sophomore linebacker Ernest "Bam" Curl delivered the knockout blow scooping up a Sharks fumble and taking it all the way to the house, capping off Westgate's 42-33 victory over Class 5A Southside on Thursday, Sept. 10 in Youngsville.
"It just so satisfying that our kid Ernest Curl, who went through a lot with some confidence issues and just trying to figure out his role on the team, for him to get that ball in his hands to help win that game, I'm so proud of him," Westgate football coach Ryan Antoine said.
With Curl's scoop and score sucking the life out of the Reef and Southside's sideline, Westgate not only handed the Sharks their second loss of the season but also further proved that the Tigers are one of the hottest teams to watch from the area in 2026.
From the first quarter, fans knew this game was going to come down to the wire. The two teams went back and forth with Southside making a living on the ground game while Westgate's flashy pass game carried it.

Steve Maltepes, known as "The Philly Godfather," will impart his gambling wisdom on the Eagles and where the smart money is going on various pro football games each weekend this season. Maltepes is one of the nation's hottest sports betting experts who appears weekly on national radio and has his own website, www.thephillygodfather.com [thephillygodfather.com].
Much is expected of the 2026 Philadelphia Eagles. Talk of a dynasty and winning consecutive Super Bowls ended last year in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, though it does not mean the Eagles will not contend as threepeat champions of the NFC East and make a deep run in the NFC playoffs.
First and foremost on everyone's mind is winning the NFC East. What comes first for professional gamblers is putting their money where their knowledge lies.
So, in talking to Steve Maltepes, known as "The Philly Godfather," one of the country's elite sports betting authorities and a native of the Philadelphia area, his heart still lies with the Eagles, but his money will be placed on the Dallas Cowboys to win the NFC East and win more than the over/under wins-loss total of 10 games, while placing his money on the under for the Eagles' total of 10.5 wins.
"I have the under for 10.5 wins for the Eagles and Jalen Hurts under 3,250.5 yards passing, the Cowboys to the NFC East +200, and the Eagles to make the playoffs -175," Maltepes said. "The great news for the Eagles is that the team nucleus is still one of the best in the NFL, and their offensive and defensive line projections are among the top five in the NFL. The first three weeks should go well, opening with Washington, Tennessee and ta Chicago Bears team a lot of people think will regress in 2026. They should be 3-0, and any team that starts 3-0 makes the playoffs 75-percent of the time.

Bloom Energy (NYSE: BE), a developer of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), has been one of the market's hottest growth stocks. Its shares surged more than 2,500% over the past two years, while its backlog swelled to $20 billion at the end of 2025. That's ten times the $2.0 billion in revenue it generated in 2025. ******* ysts expect its revenue to more than double to $4.1 billion this year, then grow 65% to $6.8 billion in 2027 and 46% to $9.9 billion in 2028.
That growth trajectory is impressive, but the recent introduction of its Power Connect system -- which could reduce its on-site installation time by more than 40% -- could help it exceed those bullish estimates. Let's see why this upgrade could matter more than the size of its backlog.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Bloom's SOFCs can convert natural gas, biogas, propane, and hydrogen into electricity without any combustion. Its systems can also be deployed on-site in less than three months and bypass traditional electrical grids, which can require years to set up new connections.
Those advantages make SOFC systems a popular choice for data centers seeking to quickly expand their cloud and AI infrastructure while maintaining a smaller carbon footprint. Oracle, CoreWeave, Nebius, Equinix, and other data center giants already use its SOFC systems. Brookfield ******* et Management (NYSE: BAM), one of the world's largest ******* et managers, funds Bloom's development and deployment of those SOFC systems via a $25 billion partnership.

Mike Norvell's tenure as Florida State football's head coach has been nothing short of a roller coaster.
The Seminoles have gone 39-35 in seven seasons under Norvell and are currently in a multi-season stretch in which the program is 8-18. That run includes a 2-10 season in 2024 and a 5-7 season in 2025. A far cry from the heights of 2023 when FSU went 13-0 in the regular season and won the ACC ****** le before being snubbed from the College Football Playoff.
It's altered the trajectory of Norvell's career, who was once considered to replace Nick Saban at Alabama following his retirement and was widley considered one of the sports best young coaches. The now 44-year-old sits on arguably the hottest seat in the country and is fresh off a 27-24 loss to No. 19 SMU, where he and his team were routinely greeted with boo's from fans at Doak Campbell Stadium.
Sitting at 1-1, FSU faces a stretch of games that will see the program visit the Crimson Tide before games against Virginia, Louisville and Miami in October.
The road doesn't get easier for Norvell, so if the Seminoles elect to part ways with the embattled head coach, here's what it'll cost.

Tom Holland and Zendaya may have conquered the box office this summer, but their blockbuster run apparently came with a price.
After months spent traveling around the world promoting two of 2026's biggest movies, the newlyweds were apparently so exhausted that even a luxury vacation wasn't tempting enough to get them back on a plane.
Instead, Tom handed the lavish **** anese getaway to his parents, giving them an unexpected taste of the A-list treatment that had originally been reserved for Hollywood's hottest couple.

The NFL had an offseason in which there was a record-tying 10 head coaching changes.
Next offseason might not see that many changes, but there will be some. NFL teams have become increasingly impatient and quick to change head coaches. There's even a notion that Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur, who has won 65.4% of his games and has just one losing season out of seven, could be on the hot seat if the Packers don't do well enough this season. Whether that comes to pass, it shows how tough of a profession it can be.
Here are the coaches on the hottest seats heading into the season:
Glenn was a candidate to be one and done after a very disheartening 3-14 season. Glenn stayed, but he replaced 12 of the 22 **** istants from last year's staff. That type of turnover is a clear indication that the head coach needs to show improvement the following season. If the Jets are as uncompetitive as they were in Glenn's first season, it seems likely that a change would be made. And the Jets have plenty of roster holes heading into the season.

It was hot on Saturday afternoon at Sanford Stadium. It was 100 degrees at the time of the opening game, the hottest season-opening game in Georgia Bulldogs history. The Georgia offense and defense were cooking as well. Georgia defeated Tennessee State 63-3. The Tigers were outmatched from the start, but Georgia took care of business and played exactly how Dawg Nation has come to expect from their back-to-back SEC champions. But, covering a spread? Georgia was a 49.5-point favorite coming into the game. Georgia took care of business covering the number and breaking a long streak. Smart and Georgia were 0-15-1 against the spread when the line was 38+ points.
Georgia scored on five of its seven first-half possessions. Gunner Stockton had a short but efficient day to start his second year as QB1 of the Dawgs. Georgia scored on all five possessions with Stockton at quarterback. The Tiger, Georgia native was nearly flawless, completing 15 of 16 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo put Stockton in a good position with a number of easy pitch-and-catch screen plays, but also allowed him to take a few shots.
Running back Nate Frazier got the party started with a big 48-yard touchdown to kick off the scoring for the Dawgs. Like Stockton, Frazier had a very efficient and productive day. Frazier had three touchdowns on four carries and finished with 72 yards on the day. Frazier looks to lead Georgia in rushing for the third straight season this year.
One of the top plays on the day came from one of the biggest players on Georgia's roster. Elyiss Williams is a 6'7″ tight end who can run and move with grace. He caught a Stockton pass late in the first quarter and leaped over a Tiger defender to put the Dawgs up 21-0.
One of the biggest questions heading into 2026 was who was going to emerge as a top receiving threat for the Dawgs. Georgia had two receivers who also showed they are ready to step up and contribute in 2026. Tayln Taylor and Sacovie White-Helton each had three catches on Saturday. Taylor looks like he could be a big-play receiver downfield, and White-Helton looks to fill the void left by Zachariah Branch in the screen and return game.

The U.S. Open has become one of New York's hottest places to see and be seen. But the tennis players and tennis fans would occasionally like people to watch the tennis.
Players at this year's tournament have complained about an influx of influencers and content creators disrupting matches with photo shoots, bright lights and videos. Meanwhile, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka stopped play Friday for a distinctly New York complaint: Someone was smoking weed.
"Someone is smoking weed," Sabalenka told the chair umpire during her third-round match against Kamilla Rakhimova at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Play resumed and Sabalenka won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The interruption follows growing debate over the atmosphere surrounding this year's U.S. Open, where the number of credentialed content creators has doubled from last year.

On Aug. 30, Elon Musk tweeted that ***** eX (SPCX) will start casting its own gas turbine blades and vanes at a foundry in Texas. And when the richest man in the world makes a statement, the world takes notice. The market worried about the impact this could have on Howmet Aerospace (HWM), and its stock fell roughly 8% in a single trading session. The blades Musk wrote about sit in the hottest part of a turbine, and they are one of the main bottlenecks slowing down new power plants. David Tepper is one of the greatest hedge fund managers of all time. He started Appaloosa Management in 1993 and went on to produce annualized returns of about 25% through mid-2019, at which point he had returned most of his outside investors' money.
Tepper has continued to produce excellent returns, now mostly managing his own money, taking concentrated and often contrarian positions to drive results. Appaloosa generated a massive 32% gross return in the first half of 2026 alone.
Continue »
So, it's worth paying attention to the moves Tepper's making -- and you can, because he, like everyone who manages more than $100 million in **** ets, is required to disclose his fund's end-of-quarter holdings via a Form 13F four times a year.
Appaloosa's 13F for the second quarter (filed on schedule about 45 days after that period ended) showed that during the quarter, he sold two of the hottest stocks in the market: Micron (NASDAQ: MU) and Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK). Not only that, but he also bought put options (the right to sell shares at a set price within a preset period) on one of their biggest customers, which may suggest he sees something the market doesn't.

Sydney Sweeney landed at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on Wednesday in Italy wearing one of 2026's hottest shoe trends, the clear heel. The "Euphoria" star went monochrome for her arrival in the floating city, opting for a sheer top with coordinated clear mules by Gianvito Rossi. Sydney Sweeney is seen during the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on Sept. 2 in Venice. GC Images While the Gianvito Rossi Elle Mule is a popular choice for those looking for a clear heel, "The Housemaid" star opted for the Sofia Mule 95. The Sofia style in all black has been picking up steam among Hollywood stars, but Sweeney opted for the mule in pink, which retails for $945. The mules are crafted from Nuit glossy leather. The style is a round-toe stiletto mule with a soft see-through Plexi upper. The style is defined by the luxury footwear brand's distinctive "Sofia" heel, which blends modernity and a retro feel with a glossy curved heel design that's wider at the base like a wedge. Handmade in Italy. The stiletto heel measures 3.8 inches. Sweeney arrived in Venice wearing a sheer lace Zimmermann Hypnotic Lace Bodice with matching shorts. The outfit features a floral lace halter-neck

The Yankees (79-60) and the Angels (53-86) conclude their three-game series tonight in Southern California with the series tied at one game apiece following New York's 7-3 win last night.
Spencer Jones and Jazz Chisholm Jr. went yard back-to-back in the first inning and the Yankees never looked back. Jones has homered in back-to-back games and Chisholm is 6-11 over his last three games with six runs scored. Zach Neto (2-4) and Wade Meckler (3-4) were the lone bright spots at the plate for the Angels in the game. The win was the Yankees' fifth in their last six games. The Halos have now lost eight of their last nine games.
Two of the hottest pitchers in baseball take the mound tonight in this one as Cam Schlittler (12-6, 2.09 ERA) takes the ball for the Yankees opposed by Reid Detmers (4-8, 3.54 ERA) of the Angels. Schlittler was outstanding last Friday against the Red Sox silencing them over 5.2 innings. His previous three starts saw him allow just one run per game with Schlittler pitching at least into the sixth inning of each. Detmers has been at least as good over the same stretch of time. Last Friday, the southpaw pitched six innings and allowed one run. He blanked the Rangers and Royals in his previous two starts (14 innings).
While these teams live in alternate universes, the season series is tied at three games apiece.
Lets dive into tonight's matchup and find a sweat or two.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has turned infrastructure into the hottest corner of enterprise tech, and companies now want more than faster chips. They need networking, cloud software, and systems that actually work together. That puts Broadcom (AVGO) in a sweet spot, with its AI semiconductors on one side and VMware strengthening its enterprise software business on the other.
So, Monday, Aug. 31, deserves a spot on the calendar. VMware Explore 2026 is kicking off in Las Vegas with 400-plus technical sessions, hands-on labs, and certifications around VMware Cloud Foundation. Broadcom and its customers will also showcase private AI clouds and agentic AI, giving enterprises a closer look at where VMware is headed.

One of my favorite pop culture topics to keep up with is Pete Davidson and Colin Jost's Staten Island Ferry. Despite all the jokes about the ferry, the comedians do have plans for the boat, and they're about to hold an event on it. However, putting the jokes back into the equation, it's not shocking to me at all that Davidson gave a funny statement about the upcoming ferry gig.
To quote Saturday Night Live's Stefon, "New York's hottest club" could be the comedy club Snapple is creating on Davidson and Jost's Staten Island Ferry. On September 17, the juice company is going to transform the comedians' "famously random John F. Kennedy Staten Island Ferry purchase into the Sapple Island Ferry," which will be a free comedy club. In reaction to all this, the King of Staten Island star said:
Turning the ferry into a floating comedy club with Snapple makes more sense than anything else we considered, and it still doesn't make much sense. Either way, we're giving people a chance to take a break, have a laugh, and do something completely ridiculous with us.

The race to build more data centers for artificial intelligence is driving demand for more than chips and electricity.
It also requires vast networks of high-speed optical fiber to move data between servers, putting one of America's oldest manufacturers at the center of the boom.
Corning, the New York-based company best known to many Americans for its kitchenware and smartphone glass, is ramping up optical-fiber production as the data-center buildout accelerates. Nearly 175 years after its founding, the company is supplying a critical piece of the infrastructure behind the AI boom, the glass connections linking the servers inside the facilities powering it.
One Of The World's Hottest Industries Is Sparking A Blue-collar Jobs Boom
The company is partnering with NVIDIA to build three advanced optical-manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and Texas. The project is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs and expand Corning's U.S. optical-manufacturing capacity tenfold.

Bill Belichick needed this one.
That the 74-year-old Belichick came into his second year at North Carolina on one of the hottest seats in college football was a signal that the six-time Super Bowl winner had officially lost his fastball after a dismal end to his run with the New England Patriots.
A full accounting of how far Belichick and UNC have come since last season won't be complete until deeper into one of the toughest schedules in the Bowl Subdivision. But the Tar Heels' often ugly 15-10 win against TCU in Ireland rights the ship for Belichick and gives his tenure a must-have boost after another drama-filled offseason.
The Tar Heels were swamped at home by TCU in last year's opener, scoring the game's first points before giving up 41 in a row and losing 48-14.
This TCU team has clear quarterback issues after losing multiple-year starter Josh Hoover to Indiana. Combined with a lack of elite skill talent, the Horned Frogs might struggle to reach bowl eligibility.

The FIBA World Cup is a very big deal in women's basketball, and it only comes around every four years, so you'd like for it to work smoothly. That is hardly the case for the event that begins on Friday in Berlin.
The timing, as it relates to the WNBA, is absurd. Here we have a nine-day tournament that finds the WNBA suddenly going dark near the end of its regular season, then resuming with only four games remaining per team.
The Valkyries' season goes on pause on Sunday (against Portland) and doesn't restart until Sept. 18. That's nearly a three-week break for the league's hottest team - all the while uncertain about their playoff opponent, with the seedings still to be determined.
They'll have four players engaged in the World Cup: Gabby Williams and Janelle Salaün (France), Cecilia Zandalasini (Italy) and Miela Sowah, a development player who has appeared in just five Valkyries games but was recently added to the Australian team.
Conveniently, the WNBA's eight-team playoff group is locked in, so that's one inconvenience out of the way. Certain teams and players could certainly use a break, but the league is understandably worried about injuries and, especially in the Valkyries' case, hard-earned momentum gone stale.

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Wade Meckler was one of the hottest hitters in in the Angels' lineup when his season nearly came to an end on August 20 against the Houston Astros.
In his third at-bat of the game, Meckler was struck by a loose 90.6 MPH sinker that connected squarely with the base of Meckler's helmet and took him out of the game, sending him on a journey through concussion protocols.
For the first couple of days after the hit by pitch, Meckler suffered form headaches pressure in his head and trouble sleeping, all the "textbook symptoms of a concussion," as he described it, but soon enough those symptoms cleared up and Meckler was able to clear testing to get him back on the field, first in two rehab starts, then back at the Big A.
In his first game back at the Major League level on Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies, Meckler didn't waste any time getting back to business.
On the first Big League pitch he'd seen in nearly two weeks, Meckler ripped a single up the middle to drive in Zach Neto and put the Angels ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
