KYRENIA, Cyprus, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Ayten Bicer felt her 12-year-old daughter slip from her hands and disappear as a ferry capsized off northern Cyprus on Sunday, killing at least eight people.
Her daughter Miray, and 6-year-old son Mehmet Asaf, ‌were among 20 people still missing on Monday as search teams looked for survivors in waters more than 500 metres (1,640 feet) ‌deep.
"She was saying, 'Don't let go'. And I didn't let go of my daughter. I swear, I didn't let her go," Ayten Bicer sobbed.
A suitcase fell on top of her, forcing the girl from her grasp. The mother caught hold of the daughter's foot, but her shoes, coated in engine oil from the overturned vessel, slipped through her hands.

NICOSIA, Aug 30 (Reuters) - At least eight people died and 18 were missing after a ferry carrying around 270 passengers and crew capsized off North Cyprus on Sunday, leaving survivors clinging to its overturned hull.
The privately owned ferry left the ‌port of Kyrenia at 12:30 p.m. local time (0930 GMT) and immediately started taking on water for an unknown reason, authorities ‌said. It was heading for the Turkish port of Tasucu in the eastern Mediterranean.
Survivors reported the ferry moving erratically, with its last hard impact with the water's surface breaking the bow of the two-hulled vessel, allowing water to seep in. The boat was carrying 267 people, including a crew of eight, while 241 people were rescued.
The disaster occurred just off the coast of Kyrenia, a popular holiday resort for both locals and tourists. The ferry was one of several shuttle sea services that link North Cyprus, a breakaway unrecognised Turkish Cypriot state, with Turkey daily.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the territory. Hours after ‌the incident relatives remained outside a local hospital ⁠and the port gates in Kyrenia, waiting for news of their loved ones. Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman said he was "deeply saddened" by the incident.

A "near miss" between a passenger ship and a cruise ship tender took place last weekend, Guernsey Ports has said.
Harbour master James Way said a tender had departed despite red signals being in place on Sunday at about 17:00 BST.
Tender 14 from the cruise ship AIDAsol crossed in front of the San Pawl ferry, which carries up to 310 foot passengers between Guernsey and Jersey.
Way said while the boats had passed each other "at relatively close range", there had been "no immediate danger or impact on passenger or vessel safety" and the incident has been discussed with the cruise operator.

Frankie Harris shot 59 in the final round of the Korn Ferry Tour's Pinnacle Bank Championship, and it only got him into a playoff.
He won, however, on the second extra hole, defeating a gallant Alistair Docherty.
Harris shot 12-under 59 – the second such number in as many weeks on the secondary circuit – to post 22 under at The Club at Indian Creek in Omaha, Nebraska.
Docherty then matched him by closing in 7-under 28, making birdie on his final four holes. He shot 64 to force sudden death.
After a pair of pars to open, Harris made par on the second hole while Docherty made bogey.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Frankie Harris made an 18-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a 12-under 59 and won the Pinnacle Bank Championship on Sunday with a par on second playoff hole for his first Korn Ferry Tour ****** le in only his sixth start this year.
Harris shot 27 on the back nine of The Club at Indian Creek by making just over 153 feet of putts. Alistair Docherty birdied his last four holes, including a 53-foot putt on the 16th, for a 64 to force a playoff at 22-under 262.
On the 18th for the second playoff hole, Docherty went long of the green, chipped to 6 feet and missed the par putt.
Harris became the fourth player in the last six weeks with a 59. He became the ninth player worldwide to have a sub-60 final round and win the tournament.
Harris, who ended his college career at South Carolina, finished at No. 9 in the PGA Tour University ranking. That gave him conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour and full status on the PGA Tour Americas.

SOUTH OGDEN — Perhaps the person most surprised that Derek Hitchner won the Korn Ferry Tour's Utah Championship on Sunday at Ogden Golf & Country Club was Hitchner himself.
"I've been floundering all year," the 26-year-old from Minnesota said on the 18th green after winning a five-way playoff on the first playoff hole with a 6-foot birdie putt. "This is kind of a surprise, and a huge blessing."
It was the first tournament win as a professional for Hitchner, a Pepperdine graduate who turned pro in 2023.
"This is as good as it gets," he said.
The five-man playoff tied for the largest playoff field in Korn Ferry Tour history. After Hitchner and four others — Tommy Morrison, Cole Hammer, Mason Anderson and Travis Trace — tied at 21-under through 72 holes in blistering hot conditions in South Ogden, the fivesome headed out to the 18th tee in the sudden-death playoff.

GEORGETOWN, July 28 (Reuters) - The captain and two crew members of a passenger ferry in Guyana that ‌capsized were charged with murder on Tuesday, more than a ‌week after the disaster killed 73 people and left 30 others still missing.
The MV Barima, an 87-year-old ship, sank on July 18 while traveling from the capital, Georgetown, to the northwestern village of Port Kaituma.
Captain Kevin Price, 40, and crew members Rondell Dwayne Roberts, 42, and Delon Granderson, ‌33, appeared before a ⁠Georgetown court on murder charges, police said.
They were not required to enter pleas, and Reuters could not immediately ⁠contact the defendants or their representatives for comment.

The PGA Tour's annual Korn Ferry Tour stop in Berthoud has a first-time professional golf winner in 2026.
Ross Steelman held his 54-hole lead, firing a steely final-round 68 to take the Blue Championship ****** le at Berthoud's TPC Colorado golf course on July 12.
This was the 25-year-old's first-ever win on the Korn Ferry Tour and a neat redemption arc of sorts.
Steelman led this same tournament by three shots heading into last year's final round but shot a 3-over-par 75 to fall well short of eventual winner Neal Shipley.
His nerves held up far better this time around on a scorching summer Sunday in Northern Colorado.

Ryan Armour has seen plenty of competition the past two years. It just hasn't been him out there.
A quick scroll through Armour's participation in both PGA Tour and Korn Ferry events shows a total of 21 tournaments in 2024 and 2025 combined. He's made less than half of his cuts in that time and generally operated outside of the consciousness of the sport.

There is a hard reality to the past, present and maybe future in Zac Blair's professional career.
The 35-year-old, who stands tied for third place on a tightly packed leaderboard heading into Sunday's final round of the John Deere Classic, sports a heavy red beard now. It looks like a lumbar jack's movie makeup for those who remember him as the youngster whose cherubic face seemed to match the Utah native's affable demeanor.

Jun. 20—WIESBADEN, Germany — The last time I was in Germany, it was 2006, in the aftermath of that year's World Cup.
I came back to the United States with a commemorative T-shirt and magnet, as well as an intrigue for international soccer and a respect for just how much the Germans — who hosted the event that year — loved their soccer.
One of the subtle ironies about my current trip to Germany is that my family finds itself in Europe again, this time with the World Cup being hosted by the United States, with multiple matches played at Lumen Field — or Seattle Stadium, as it's known on the TV broadcasts.
I am the kind of soccer fan who knows where to park at Plante's Ferry on a Saturday morning and who will jump on bandwagons for teams like Spokane Velocity at the formation of a playoff run. That is how I found myself at ONE Spokane Stadium for two matches last fall, cheering through the chill and the thrill of two penalty shot victories.

The FIFA World Cup has arrived in North America with six games slated for downtown Seattle, and a lineup of "Fan Zone" events and watch parties in Bremerton's Quincy Square.
The Bremerton Fan Zone is one of nine locations across the state named as official sites to gather during the event, which kicked off with Mexico's win over South Africa on June 11 in Mexico City. Games will be played in 16 cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico, including Seattle, where four group-stage and two knock-out round games will be played, including the U.S. men's national team hosting Australia on June 19.
The Quincy Square site, at Fourth Street and Washington Avenue, just a few blocks from the ferry terminal, has been turned into a large public area for watching games that happen in Seattle as well as a few bonus events. The Fan Zone features a 20-foot LED outdoor screen set up at the new bandstand along Fourth Street, an outdoor beer garden, food trucks and certain themed days that will function as community events beyond just soccer.
"These events are intentionally designed to be immersive, high-energy, and welcoming," Jessica Combs, Executive Director of the Downtown Bremerton ******* ociation, said in a statement. "By combining global sport with local programming and partnerships, we’re creating experiences that feel authentic to Bremerton while welcoming the world."
Eight FIFA watch parties are now scheduled and the first kicked off on Friday, June 12, and others for the World Cup's final matches could be added. World Cup games in Seattle will be held June 15 (Belgium-Egypt), June 19 (U.S.-Australia), June 24 (Qatar-Bosnia-Herzegovina), June 26 (Egypt-Iran), July 1 (round of 32) and July 6 (round of 16). The fan zone opens two hours before every match's kickoff.

NEW YORK, June 2 (Reuters) - Impulse **** e, a startup building **** ecraft that can ferry satellites and other payloads around in orbit after launch, said on Tuesday ‌it has raised $500 million in a Series D funding round.
The funding round values the ‌company at $4.26 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The company was founded by Tom Mueller, **** eX's first employee and the propulsion engineer who led development of rocket engines that helped turn Elon Musk's company into the world's dominant launch provider.
The round was co-led by venture firms 137 Ventures and Banner VC and brings the total capital raised by the Redondo Beach, California-based company to more than $1 billion, Impulse said.
