After a goalless opening 87 minutes, Joel Chima Fujita broke the deadlock in the 88th minute to finally give St. Pauli the breakthrough they had been searching for.
The result ends St. Pauli's wait for a first league victory of the campaign, having collected just three points from their opening four matches before tonight's meeting. Wolfsburg, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the season after beginning the campaign unbeaten.
There was plenty of attacking intent from both sides during an entertaining first half, although neither could find the breakthrough.
Wolfsburg came closest inside the opening five minutes when Fabian Reese struck the crossbar from a free-kick, while St. Pauli goalkeeper Ben Voll was then forced into action to deny Muhammed Damar.
The hosts responded as Connor Metcalfe tested Jakub Zielinski from distance before Abdoulie Ceesay came close to opening the scoring in the 12th minute. The St. Pauli forward met a dangerous free-kick from close range but headed straight at the Wolfsburg goalkeeper.

Amass emerged as one potential option, with The Athletic reporting that Celtic expressed an interest in the highly-rated 19-year-old following his successful loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

After completing an incredible comeback against Wolfsburg in the third qualifying round, Inter Women are preparing to discover their path in the UEFA Women's Champions League. On Friday 4 September at 12:00 CEST, the draw for the 2026/27 League Phase will take place in Nyon, determining the Nerazzurre's journey in this historic first-ever participation.
Eighteen teams will take part in the League Phase, with nine entering directly and the other nine qualifying through the preliminary rounds. The teams will be placed in a single league table, forming the League Phase. The teams are divided into three pots based on their UEFA ranking coefficient: Inter have been placed in Pot 3 and will be drawn against six different opponents, two from each pot, while avoiding teams from the same **** ociation.
Each team will face two teams from each of the three pots, with one match at home and one away

Roma have officially announced their signing of Argentine centre-back Leonardo Balerdi on loan with an option to make the move permanent from Ligue 1 club Olympique de Marseille.
Balerdi has joined Roma on an initial season-long loan deal at a cost reported to be worth €1m, with an option to buy that is likely to become an obligation to buy for an additional €15m.

Just weeks after completing a €25 million move from Wolfsburg, the striker marked his competitive debut with a hat-trick against Hansa Rostock in the DFB-Pokal.
After making an "absolute dream start" to life at the club, Pejčinović opened up on his Stuttgart move in this week's "Midweek Interviews" segment by the Bundesliga.
"If I can say what I actually wanted, then of course it was for us to go through. That was the big goal for me," the 21-year-old said, after the 2025 Pokal champions and 2026 finalists put four past third-tier side Rostock.

Paderborn return to the German top-flight this season following their promotion play-off victory over Wolfsburg. The club return to the Bundesliga for the first time since relegation following the 2019/20 season, having finished 18th.
Paderborn previously had two spells in the Bundesliga, in 2014/15 and 2019/20, being relegated both times after just one season.
Survival will be their main goal, but just how likely is that?

Volkswagen's (VW) chief executive Oliver Blume has told employees that around half of any further job reductions at the carmaker will need to fall on Germany.
According to a Bloomberg report, addressing thousands of staff at the Wolfsburg site on Tuesday (25 August), Blume said the reductions were unavoidable given that the company's fixed costs run 30% above those of rival manufacturers.
He clarified that the frequently mentioned figure of 50,000 further job losses worldwide is a theoretical estimate rather than an agreed goal.
The company is currently developing measures to reduce annual European production capacity by 500,000 vehicles, streamline management structures, and trim its range of models and equipment options.
Employee representatives have cautioned that up to 140,000 roles could ultimately be affected.

Kamil Grabara has officially joined Juventus as the Bianconeri strengthen their squad with a second goalkeeper in just a few days, with both players joining on loan, as confirmed by the club's official website.
Goalkeeper has been a problem position for Juventus for some time, and Luciano Spalletti was determined to change that this summer, so he asked the club's bosses for a new number one.
He had to replace Michele di Gregorio in that position, which happened when Guglielmo Vicario joined on loan from Tottenham and Di Gregorio agreed a move to Bournemouth on a similar arrangement.
Juventus had their new first choice, but Palermo then moved for Mattia Perin and he agreed to join them, forcing the Old Lady back into the market for another goalkeeper.
They have now secured a loan move for Grabara from Wolfsburg following their relegation from the Bundesliga last season, and the Polish goalkeeper will be their second choice.

FC Bayern Women made it 10 Bundesliga wins in a row with a commanding 5-0 victory away at Köln on Saturday, with all the goals coming in the first half. Sydney Lohmann got things going on 11 minutes at the Franz-Kremer-Stadion in Cologne. Klara Bühl then hit a brace either side of captain Lina Magull's finish, before Maximiliane Rall rounded off the scoring on the stroke of half-time.
The result moves Bayern on to 40 points in second place in the Bundesliga, just two points off leaders Wolfsburg, who come to Munich next weekend.
Head coach Alexander Straus made just one change to the team that beat Duisburg 4-0 at home last weekend. Goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs was available again after illness and replaced Laura Benkarth. Bayern were without Giulia Gwinn (cruciate ligament), Linda Dallmann (ankle), Carolin Simon (muscular) and Tainara (ankle) in Cologne.
The visitors started well and quickly made it clear that they intended to take all three points back to Munich. Lohmann came close to opening the scoring inside 10 minutes with an effort from the edge of the box, but was denied by the post. However, there was no stopping her only moments later when she pinched the ball off defender Celina Degen and found the far corner. VfL Wolfsburg went into the Niedersachsen derby against Hannover 96 as clear favourites. With their squad quality and financial resources, the Wolves are expected to be among the strongest teams in the 2. Bundesliga this season. But, much like on the opening matchday, it was their opponents who looked like the better team on the pitch.
Hannover dominated the first half and created the more dangerous opportunities. The hosts repeatedly tested Wolfsburg goalkeeper Jakub Zieliński from distance, while the visitors struggled to impose themselves on the game.
Wolfsburg were not completely without chances, though. New signing Muhammed Damar was particularly active and created some promising situations for the visitors, but neither side managed to break the deadlock before the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Hannover continued to look more threatening, while the intensity increased in the challenges as the derby became increasingly physical.
The hosts came closest when substitute Benedikt Pichler found himself with the best chance of the match. However, he could not convert, leaving Hannover to rue another missed opportunity.

Hamburg are closing in on the signing of Sebastiaan Bornauw from Leeds United. According to Sky Germany, a full agreement has been reached over a loan deal for the Belgian defender, which will include an option to buy worth around €4-5 million.
Bornauw is now expected to complete his move to HSV, with his medical scheduled for Monday. The transfer will then be finalised once the 27-year-old signs his contract.
The centre-back joined Leeds from VfL Wolfsburg earlier this summer but could now return to the Bundesliga after previously playing for Wolfsburg and 1. FC Köln.

Sebastiaan Bornauw has agreed to return to the Bundesliga by agreeing to join Hamburg on loan, according to Sky Germany. An agreement has been reached between Leeds United and HSV for the move with an option to buy reportedly worth €4-5m, with a medical scheduled for Monday.
The 27-year-old center back spent the 2025/26 season in the Premier League where he made 12 appearances for Leeds. Before that he had a four-year stint at Wolfsburg where he showed his best qualities and managed to attract plenty of attention. This move sees him get back to a familiar environment in the Bundesliga where he has also played for Cologne.
The Belgian defender has represented his country at all youth levels, while making four appearances for the senior side with his last call up coming back in 2023.
Having signed Swiss center back Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach, Leeds have decided to allow Bornauw to join Hamburg.

The FC Bayern Frauen kick it off in the women's edition of the DFL-Supercup against familiar foes VfL Wolfsburg. The Bavarians bested the She-Wolves 4-2 in last year's Supercup, and went on to a domestic double with the Bundesliga ****** le as well.

A move back to Germany looks to be on the cards for former VfL Wolfsburg and 1. FC Köln centre-back Sebastiaan Bornauw.
According to Sky Germany, Hamburger SV are in advanced talks with Leeds United over a deal to sign the 27-year-old defender.
The Bundesliga outfit are hoping to bring Bornauw in on loan with an option to buy.
With Leeds having agreed a deal to sign another centre-back in Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach, the path is now clear for Bornauw to make the switch to HSV.
Leeds reportedly paid €6 million to sign Bornauw from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer of 2025. The Belgian defender made 17 appearances in his first season with the English club.

Cologne and Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly reached an agreement over the transfer of Ellyes Skhiri back to his old Bundesliga club, dramatically reviving a return that appeared to have been abandoned only weeks ago. Sport Bild reports the two Bundesliga clubs have settled the terms of a deal for the 31-year-old midfielder. The remaining obstacle is Skhiri's salary demand. Cologne are reportedly prepared to offer the Tunisia international approximately €1.5m per year. Skhiri currently ranks among Frankfurt's higher earners and has yet to accept the proposed terms.
Get German Football News reported in late July that Skhiri had been granted permission to negotiate a departure from Eintracht Frankfurt. The midfielder was omitted from Adi Hütter's training-camp squad after being informed that he no longer featured prominently in the club's plans. A return to Köln initially appeared one of the most logical solutions. That option subsequently seemed dead, however.
GGFN reported during Köln's pursuit of Wolfsburg midfielder Vinicius Souza that Skhiri was no longer considered an option at the RheinEnergieStadion. Köln had elected to explore alternative solutions for René Wagner's midfield instead. That position was reinforced again only recently when GGFN covered Sevilla's emerging interest in Skhiri. At that stage, Köln were understood to have dropped their pursuit entirely.
Skhiri's return would address an obvious need in Köln's midfield, where Tom Krauß, Ísak Jóhannesson and summer signing Paul Okon-Engstler currently represent Wagner's main central options. The veteran already knows the club exceptionally well. Skhiri joined Köln from Montpellier for approximately €6m in 2019 and developed into one of their most important players. He made 133 competitive appearances for the club and contributed to 28 goals before departing for Frankfurt on a free transfer in 2023.
Skhiri has since made 117 appearances for Eintracht, although his role declined last season. The additions of Raphael Onyedika and Noël Aséko have further reduced his prospects under Hütter. Skhiri also enters the final year of his SGE contract. The RheinMainAdler remain eager to cash in on the 86-times-capped international, who still maintains a €5m estimated market value. The two clubs have ironed out the terms of the transfer. Skhiri will still have to lower his salary expectations in order to facilitate the move.

The 20-year-old returns to her native Germany in a bid to continue to experience regular competitive football. Alber has been a regular in the German top flight over the last five years and she will continue her development at that level of football.
Chelsea signed Alber from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim last summer but she is yet to make an impact for The Blues and spent the second half of last season on loan at Werder Bremen.
On the international stage, Alber has represented Germany at various youth levels up to and including Under-23 level.
After sealing her loan move to VfL Wolfsburg, Alber said "VfL Wolfsburg are a big club in women's football and still have big ambitions, so I didn't have to think twice when the opportunity arose to join VfL on loan. I'm particularly looking forward to working with Stephan Lerch again, having already played under him at Hoffenheim.

The debate over 50+1 continued on Wednesday as the Bundeskartellamt (Federal Cartel Office) finally ruled the rule is permissible under antitrust law. There is also a call for improvement regarding its execution at the clubs granted exceptions and special cases – Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg, RB Leipzig and Hannover 96.
The decision followed with contrasting reactions from Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga clubs as they stay divided on the issue. While clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 welcomed the non-binding statement, some asked for more clarity on the matter.
"It is a significant step that the Federal Cartel Office, in its final **** sment, raises no fundamental concerns regarding the (50+1) rule. We'll continue to advocate for the protection and continued existence of the rule. But a rule only makes sense if it applies equally to everyone. I'm curious about the future and remain skeptical." said DFL chairman and Borussia Dortmund president Hans-Joachim Watzke.
BVB also issued a public statement in which they noted "50+1 stands for club identity, co-determination and a vibrant fan culture". "Our stance is clear: 50+1 is part of German soccer, and members and fans belong at the heart of the club." said spokesperson Carsten Cramer.
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen's managing director Fernando Carro also shared his opinion after the homework given to his club with the ruling on Wednesday morning. The club stated that they're now carefully examining the decision as they see a promising starting point for a long-term solution for the entire German football.

An important day for Inter Women, who are rapidly approaching the start of their new season. David Sassarini's Nerazzurre earned the chance to qualify for the Women's Champions League thanks to their second-place finish in last season's league: today, Inter will discover their opponents in the third qualifying round of Europe's top competition.
The draw for the third qualifying round will take place at 12:00 CEST at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, involving 18 teams: 11 have reached this stage after advancing past the second round, while the other seven, including Inter, enter the competition at this stage. The first legs are all scheduled for Wednesday 26 August, with the return legs to be played on Wednesday 2 September.
The nine teams that come through the third qualifying round will join the nine clubs already directly qualified for the Women's Champions League League Phase, while the nine eliminated sides will enter the second qualifying round of the Women's Europa Cup, a competition in which Inter reached the Round of 16 last season.

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven says he is "excited about what's to come" after signing a new long-term deal with Spurs.
The Netherlands international joined from Wolfsburg in 2023 originally on a six-year agreement until 2029.
BBC Sport understands Van de Ven was considering his future in north London before the appointment of Roberto de Zerbi in March, which proved crucial in the 25-year-old's decision to extend his stay.

Wolfsburg declined multiple offers for the Germany U21 international, while FC Porto's attempt to lure the striker was also rejected by the player. However, the 21-year-old is keen to join Stuttgart this summer.
Pejcinovic was named in Wolfsburg's squad for the 2. Bundesliga opener, but he ended the game against Kaiserslautern as an unused substitute. According to Kicker, the two clubs reached full agreement on a €25 million transfer fee.
After Kicker's confirmation, Sky Sports reported there is still one key detail yet to be negotiated between the clubs despite Hecking's statement. Nonetheless, they also noted the deal is in an advanced stage.

Wolfsburg put at least five million euros on the table for Muhammed Damar. That makes him the second-most expensive signing of the relegated club and, naturally, he is expected to be a key player. At first glance, that doesn't sound like much, but for both sides it could be the biggest risk they have taken this summer — or even in their careers.
The reason: throughout his career so far, the 22-year-old talent has often made some pretty poor decisions when it came to transfers or new contracts. Too often, otherwise more people would probably already have his name on their radar.
Damar, who was regarded early on as an attacking player with enormous potential, began his career at three Berlin clubs. He was developed there and then ended up at TSG Hoffenheim at the age of 18.
Shortly after that, the run of rather poor club choices began. After one year with the Sinsheim side, he moved on loan to Hannover 96 in the 2. Bundesliga in 2023 in order to gain playing time.
That backfired completely. Shortly after his arrival, coach Stefan Leitl ruthlessly cast him aside. Instead of being on the pitch — or at least on the bench in second-division stadiums — he was sent to the second team.

Konstantinos Koulierakis is Roma's chosen addition to strengthen their defense.

Ermedin Demirovic has reaffirmed his commitment to VfB Stuttgart amid persistent speculation linking him with a move away from the Bundesliga club. The 28-year-old nevertheless hopes that his third season with the Swabians will include a Champions League trip to face ****** nal at the Emirates Stadium.
Demirovic attracted interest from Leeds United, Juventus and Fenerbahçe this summer. Stuttgart were also said to be internally divided over whether a lucrative sale should be considered.
Reports that Sebastian Hoeneß was open to dispensing with the Bosnian international particularly irritated the Stuttgart head coach. Demirovic has now dismissed the possibility that he was considering an exit and made clear that his relationship with Hoeneß remains strong.
Demirovic's commitment comes as Stuttgart continue negotiations with Wolfsburg over Dzenan Pejcinovic. The 20-year-old wishes to join the Champions League participants, but the two clubs remain apart in their respective valuations.
Wolfsburg are reportedly demanding €25m, while Stuttgart have offered approximately €20m. Sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth, per Kicker, does not expect Pejcinovic to join the club's current training camp in Grassau, although negotiations remain ongoing.
