Franco Mastantuono's time at Real Madrid was anything but memorable as he suffered with poor form and fitness and never really got going as many expected him to.
The youngster thus left the club in the summer transfer window, just one season into his Real Madrid stint, and is currently on loan at Fiorentina for one season.
Los Blancos, meanwhile, have brought in Yan Diomande as a record signing to strengthen the left flank – the same position Mastantuono used to play while at the club.
Last night, Mastantuono started Fiorentina's Serie A clash against Venezia which ended a 4-1 win for his side, and it was the young Argentine who played the pioneering role.

Rennes and Sevilla maintained their promising starts in Ligue 1 and La Liga, Fiorentina got its first win in Serie A, and Schalke beat Union Berlin 3-1 in a Bundesliga match where the referee was replaced on Friday.
Both teams had just one point after their first two Bundesliga matches but newly promoted Schalke went home happiest thanks in part to a fine goalkeeping display from player of the match Loris Karius.
Robin Gosens opened the scoring for Schalke with an angled volley and Aouchiche doubled their lead moments after the break with a superbly taken strike.
Karius held Berlin at bay for much of the second period and though he could not stop Tim Skarke from scoring in the sixth minute of added time, Maximilian Wober restored Schalke's two-goal lead with almost the last kick of the game.
The match was notable for the substitution of referee Timo Gerach early in the second half. Gerach complained of a sore calf and was replaced by fourth official Jarno Wienefeld, an experienced Bundesliga 2 referee who took charge of his first top tier game.

A little bit of personal story-time to start this week's Sinners & Saints. Yesterday was the first Roma match that my girlfriend watched all the way through in a serious way. She's a fan of football in general, but follows the NWSL most closely. Thanks to my work with Chiesa di Totti, she knows what's going on in a general way with Roma most of the time, and we've both been thinking for a while that it would be great for us to watch Roma together this season. Her main experience with seeing me follow Roma has been witnessing my frustration: she knows Roma is generally a club with talented players that fail to meet expectations, a club always just on the outside looking in.
Because of some scheduling issues for the first two matches, yesterday was her first time watching a match this season in full (whereas previous seasons, she didn't want to watch because it was "kind of depressing." Fair enough.). 45 minutes in, she was impressed albeit deeply frustrated with Roma's inability to get the ball past Marco Carnesecchi. 85 minutes in, I thought I was introducing her to the apotheosis of what happens when Roma Happens; when no amount of combined talent, no amount of good form, no amount of opportunities on goal seems to be capable of defeating the destiny of Roma to be just one tier below the best of Italian and European football, for eternity.
Then, of course, came the six minutes where Roma turned a 0-1 loss into a 2-1 win. I was on the edge of my seat (literally, my Uber nearly got into an accident) when Matías Soulé scored his stoppage time goal to preserve Roma's perfect record and keep the hopes of something greater for this season alive. I'm still feeling shocked and thrilled that the Giallorossi pulled this one off, and what a game to use to truly introduce my girlfriend to Roma. Roma did concede, and Roma did look as if they were going to lose this one for most of the second half; given that, I had to anoint at least one player a sinner. But make no mistake: this match felt more exciting to me than either of the multi-goal clean sheets that started the season, and in my book is a far better signal for just how high this Roma can go than either the win against Lecce or Fiorentina.
One quick aside before diving into the sinners and saints: my love for Mile Svilar knows no bounds, but if yesterday's match taught me just about anything regarding a non-Roma player, it's that I want Marco Carnesecchi to be Italy's goalkeeper moving forward. What an incredible performance; this one could have and should have been a 5-1 rout, if not for his 9 saves.
He got the game-winner in stoppage time, so he has to be the first saint on the list. MatìGol (can we start calling him that?) put in an excellent shift as a substitute, garnering himself an 8.7 rating from SofaScore after coming on for Rodrigo Mora in the 54th minute and practically willing the Giallorossi to the win. Instead, the Argentine is finding life in Italy just as challenging, with his latest outing against Torino on Saturday offering little encouragement.
Three games into the Serie A season, Mastantuono is yet to find his feet, and Fiorentina's results have been equally poor.

Everton's pursuit of Folarin Balogun has collapsed at the final stage, leaving David Moyes and the club's recruitment team with a major problem after a dramatic deadline day twist. According to The Athletic, the United States international decided against completing the move after late complications, despite Everton having already pushed deep into the process with Monaco.
This was far from a routine transfer that simply ran out of time. Everton had worked to renegotiate terms with Monaco after concerns emerged during Balogun's medical. They then filed a dealsheet with the Premier League in an attempt to secure the extra window needed to finish the paperwork beyond the 11pm BST deadline. The timing makes the setback even more severe. Everton had already allowed Beto to leave for Fiorentina, a significant decision in itself given the need for reliable depth in attacking areas. Iliman Ndiaye has also moved on to Manchester City, further reducing the options in the final third. Everton's £40m deal with Monaco for Folarin Balogun collapsed after the transfer window shut after the United States striker walked away from the move at the 11th hour.
The Premier League side had reached an agreement to sign the 25-year-old but the forward's medical threw up an issue and Everton looked to renegotiate the agreement.

AS Monaco's Folarin Balogun (25) has turned down a move to Everton, scuppering his transfer to the Toffees, according to reports in The Athletic.
This is an unexpected turn of events, given that the two clubs had reached a renegotiated agreement worth around €50m, after the English club had expressed their doubts to their French counterparts about the deal going through.
Everton, who were looking to strengthen their attack following the sales of Iliman Ndiaye (26) to Manchester City and Beto (28) to Fiorentina, had earlier on Tuesday tried unsuccessfully to persuade Manchester United to grant them a loan for Joshua Zirkzee (25).
Balogun, who was at the Finch Farm training ground, has ultimately decided not to sign for the Premier League club and to return to Monaco. A major blow for both Everton and ASM, who were counting on the sale of the US international to boost their finances, after cancelling Lamine Camara's (22) transfer to Chelsea earlier in the evening.

Everton have agreed a deal for Jack Grealish to return to the club on a season-long loan from Manchester City while striker Beto has joined Serie A club Fiorentina in a £14.58m move.
Grealish, 30, is set for a medical at the Toffees, with his switch expected to be completed before Tuesday's 23:00 BST transfer deadline.
The England international spent a large chunk of last term at Everton under a similar arrangement, scoring twice and providing six ******* ists in 20 appearances, before sustaining a season-ending foot injury in January.

Fabio Capello gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport in which he discussed Roma, who, after two 4-0 wins against Fiorentina and Lecce, are now bidding to challenge Inter for the Scudetto.

The Giallorossi arrive in excellent form, sitting atop the table after a convincing 4-0 victory over Fiorentina on Matchday 1. Another day, another suitor for Iliman Ndiaye. In today's version, it's Tottenham Hotspur who have reached an agreement in principle with Everton for the Senegal international for a fee of about £60 million.
In his comments yesterday after Spurs sunk to their second consecutive league defeat to start the season, Roberto De Zerbi indicated that Richarlison had asked to leave the club 'many times', and now that will be allowed with a move to the Toffees accepted for about £35 million.
There had been a hue and cry when Everton had been forced to sell Richarlison quickly to Spurs a few years ago for £60m to balance the books at the end of the financial year, when his performances saving Everton from relegation demanded more. Now it looks like the Toffees are selling another forward in his prime for lower than his market value, and to add insult to injury, are overpaying for the Brazilian to return too given how his career has tailed off with injuries and the like.
As of this afternoon the Toffees appear to still be working on a loan for Jack Grealish, close to making a move for right back Kenny Tete from Fulham, and also have an interest in USMNT striker Folarin Balogun. Beto appears to be headed to Fiorentina and Adam Aznou on loan to Malaga.
This latest round of transfer rumours basically indicates that Everton are shifting into "win now" mode with adding older, Premier League-proven players. The concern will be that at the end of the year with David Moyes' contract up, the next manager could get saddled with the debt.

Marcus Rashford's future has moved back into focus in the closing days of the transfer window, with TeamTalk reporting that both ****** nal and Barcelona are tracking developments around the Manchester United forward.

The key detail is that a move remains possible rather than probable. United are "currently planning with Rashford and remain keen to retain him", while any shift would likely depend on two conditions, a suitable offer arriving and United being able to restructure their attacking options before the deadline. That point feels especially relevant given Joshua Zirkzee is heading towards Fiorentina, a development that would leave United requiring careful cover if another forward departs.
Barcelona's long-standing interest has not gone away. According to the report, they "have maintained a line of communication with Rashford's camp", despite the player's return to first-team involvement at Old Trafford. That contact matters, particularly because Barcelona are said to remain "huge admirers of Rashford" after his loan spell at the Nou Camp last season.
