Como fought back from a debut Milutin Osmajic goal to crush Genoa 4-1, including an **** ane Diao brace, Martin Baturina and Nico Paz, with Moise Kean providing an **** ist.
The Lariani were fresh from a 2-1 victory away to Napoli, plus deadline day signings Moise Kean and Robert Sanchez on the bench waiting for their debuts. Only Jayden Addai remained on the treatment table. Genoa were in crisis after losing to both Napoli and Lazio without scoring a goal, as Lorenzo Venturino, Joi Nuredini, Hamed Traore and Elias Havel were still out of action, but Djibril Sow and Milutin Osmajic got their first starts.
See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Justin Bijlow fingertipped a Yan Couto curler out from under the bar, then got his glove to a Nico Paz screamer from distance, but it was Genoa who took the lead against the run of play.

Rayan Cherki has been nominated for the Guinness Goal of the Month for August.
Our French playmaker scored a quite wonderful individual effort away to Crystal Palace, beating several defenders with his exquisite close control before poking the ball past Dean Henderson.
Already surely a contender for the goal of the season, Rayan is up against Emerson of Ipswich Town, Nilson Angulo of Sunderland, Keane Lewis-Potter and Kevin Schade of Brentford, Newcastle duo Joe Willock and Anthony Elanga plus Chelsea's Cole Palmer
Voting is now open and the winner will be announced at 1pm on 11 September.
VOTE CHERKI FOR GOAL OF THE MONTH AWARD!

A deserved opener from Kevin Schade (£6.0m) was almost enough to secure all three points and continue Brentford's very promising start to the season.
The German cleverly flicked in Keane Lewis-Potter's (£5.5m) cross just before half-time but, despite having comfortably more attempts (22 v 12), penalty-area efforts (17 v 6) and shots on target (5 v 2) than Leeds United, Keith Andrews' side were denied the win by Dominic Calvert-Lewin's (£6.0m) equaliser.
Igor Thiago (£8.0m) almost restored the lead immediately, with two efforts in quick succession. The Brazilian has done everything but score so far, missing a spot-kick in Gameweek 1 and spurning five close-range shots on Sunday.
However, his 1.6 million FPL owners may want to resist an early sale. The underlying numbers are encouraging and he netted twice in last season's home victory over Sunderland, who are about to visit Gtech Community Stadium.
Kristoffer Ajer (£4.5m) accumulated 17 defensive contribution (DefCon) actions, meaning the Norwegian is one of only four defenders to have reached the threshold in both Gameweeks.

Tim Curry's cause of death has been revealed to be coronary artery disease, according to documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reviewed by People.
The British actor died on Aug. 25 at the age of 80. The Rocky Horror Picture Show and It star reportedly had a history of kidney cancer and stroke. These conditions did not create an underlying cause that directly led to his death, though they were contributing factors. Curry did not undergo surgery to treat his cancer or stroke, which occurred in 2012.

An eventful Week 2 of the high school season saw some wet bulb delays, a coach get his first-ever victory, and a Sun Valley sweep.
Here is "The Friday Five" — that's what we call our new feature rounding up the five most important things that happened in Week 2.
Congratulations to Nick King. The former Palm Springs high athletic standout and now first-year head coach at Shadow Hills picked up the first victory of his coaching career Friday. The Knights' defense solved the Wing-T offense of Palo Verde Valley and the offense got on track as Shadow Hills pulled away for a 26-6 victory. Damian Walls had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the win. King and Company will have a short week and a tough task in Week 3 as they play at Yucaipa on Thursday. But tonight, Coach King can go ahead and exhale and celebrate the fact that he's a winning high school head coach.
Last week, the Rancho Mirage defense bent, but rarely broke, as they turned away and shut down a solid Yucca Valley offense. This week, the Rancho Mirage defense bent, but rarely broke, as they turned away and shut down a solid Coachella Valley offense. The Rattlers flummoxed their second straight DVL team and have found a nice mix of offense and defense early this season. There's been a lot of talk about the Rattlers sophomore class and that was on display in this one as the four touchdowns were scored by four different sophomores. Wow! Bentley Arredondo, Jadarius Hester, Reid Keane and Jayden Ayers all scored. That's 2-0 for the Rattlers and that's a good feeling.
The Blackhawks took their usual opening week bye week and there was absolutely no rust to be found as La Quinta ran around, over and through Yucca Valley for a 58-28 victory. The only thing that slowed them down was a wet bulb delay to start the game as La Quinta showed off its balanced offense. Talented tailback Colton LaCrone did his thing with 136 yards rushing and two TDs on 16 carries, while QB Mason Flores threw for 187 yards and three touchdown passes. The defense did its part getting a safety from Dominyck Gonzalez and a pick six from Alfredo Castro. Sure there was some sloppy play that gave coach Juan Ruiz something to talk about during film sessions, but he said it best "Even if there was some sloppy moments, nothing beats starting off the year with a W." One note for Yucca Valley in a mostly forgettable night, Aiden Pope did return a kickoff for a touchdown.

Patrick Vieira has named the hardest player he faced while playing for ******* nal as one of their main players during the Premier League era.
The Frenchman played a key role for ******* ne Wenger's side, which dominated the English game across several seasons, and was on their books between 1996 and 2005, winning three Premier League ******* les among several other honours.
The former midfielder enjoyed a superb career in England and, in many matches, was the dominant midfield player. However, he faced several opponents who challenged him in different games.
Vieira went on to become one of the best midfielders in the game during his spell at ******* nal and gave the best years of his career to the Gunners before eventually leaving the club.
There were opponents who always gave him a tough time in matches, and the most notable of them all was Roy Keane. It is therefore no surprise that Vieira picked the Manchester United icon as his toughest opponent in club football.

Serie A side Fiorentina are about to see Moise Kean part ways with them and join Como, where he will play in the Champions League. As they look to replace the Italian, Everton's Beto has emerged as a key option.
Get Italian Football News have looked at how they had stepped forward for Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee too. They were looking to work on a loan with an option to buy but things are now changing.
FirenzeViola report attention may have shifted towards Everton striker Beto, who has never quite established himself since joining from Udinese.
In fact, an offer has been submitted for the striker, with sporting director Fabio Paratici considering his options.
ViolaNews report that this doesn't mean the idea of signing Zirkzee from Manchester United has gone away. Fiorentina continue to discuss an initial loan deal and are happy to offer an option to buy as well.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game against Leeds United at Elland Road (kick-off 14:00 BST).
Here are the key lines from his news conference:
Andrews said there are no injuries to his squad and the team "came through midweek really well".
New defender El Hadji Malick Diouf is a "very good player". Andrews said: "I thought he had some eye-catching performances [last season at West Ham]. He fits what we are about, age profile, attributes and he comes into it in an already competitive squad."
On 25-year-old Keane Lewis-Potter: "He is versatile, it is a super strength. Before we signed Malick I said we could play Keano in different positions throughout the season. I don't think that will change."

Como will add two high-profile Italian players late in the window, as they have completed their chase of Moise Kean and also struck a deal with Milan for Samuele Ricci. The Lariani and the Viola went back and forth throughout the summer. The transfer has finally come together, Fabrizio Romano reports (via SOSFanta).
The striker did what he could to accelerate the talks, showing up late and skipping one practice to make his intentions known. He's transferring on a €10M loan with a €25M obligation to buy and €5M add-ons. The Gigliati will get the €40M package they were looking for. The 26-year-old had two mixed seasons in Tuscany, registering 25 goals in his maiden one but just 9 in 2025/2026 amid a few injuries.
Como didn't stop at Kean, as they also reached an agreement for Ricci. He's joining on a temporary basis and with a simple €22.5M acquisition clause. They will cover his entire salary for this campaign and pay a €1.5M fee. The midfielder is leaving San Siro after just one season, where he was mostly a deputy and amassed 34 appearances, one goal, and 4 ******* ists.
The Viola are trying to acquire Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United to fill the void.
They needed more depth due to the busier schedule, and they didn't mess around with the level of their acquisitions. Money isn't infinite even for them, as they had to get creative with the formulas. Fabregas has made a lot of players thrive. They'll be a threat for the very apical positions if the former returns to his old glory, as they are already brimming with offensive talent.

It was that time of year again when the early rounds of the English League Cup were being played in the midst of a hectic Premier League schedule. Sunderland had played their first four games of the season following promotion and, despite an exciting victory over Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day, had failed to win since, picking up just one point from their next three games.
Included in that run was a dismal 3-0 defeat away to Wigan Athletic, a result that shocked supporters given the inept nature of the performance. A home defeat to Liverpool compounded the misery before Roy Keane's side travelled to London to face Luton Town in the League Cup.
Keane made just four changes to the team that had faced Liverpool and, in hindsight, the decision did little to ease the growing frustrations surrounding the side. Sunderland were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by the Championship outfit, who took great delight in their victory as chants of "Premiership, you're having a laugh" rang around Kenilworth Road.
Greg Halford's dismissal certainly didn't help Sunderland's cause, but this was now four consecutive defeats and, more concerningly, the manner of those defeats was beginning to cause genuine concern among the fanbase.
On the very same evening, Leicester City and Nottingham Forest were also meeting in the League Cup, with Sunderland loanee Clive Clarke lining out for Leicester.

Como director Carlalberto Ludi admits advanced talks with Fiorentina for Moise Kean, but warns they are 'stalling' on Samuele Ricci from Milan. 'We're not sure yet.'
The director of sport spoke to Sky Sport Italia in the wake of the Champions League draw, the first in the club's history.
It will see them face the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Manchester United in the tournament, a remarkable achievement considering they were in Serie B just three years ago.

As a result, they have had to spend big this summer to reinforce the squad for coach Cesc Fabregas, and the latest deal would seem to be for Fiorentina striker Kean.

Everton started their cup play against Preston North End after the 40 mile drive down the M58 and up the M6. David Moyes ended his playing career at Preston and also started his managerial career before Everton came looking for someone to save them from the drop in 2002. A lot has happened since then but what has not changed is the fact that neither team have won silverware since then and today was another step in that journey. On a purely selfish note, I am heading home to Liverpool in September and would love to see a round three match with the Mighty Blues playing under the lights!
David Moyes went with a strong side to take on Preston. Jarrad Branthwaite and Hayden Hackney were given the night off with Michael Keane and James Garner taking their places. A big surprise to see O'Brien on the bench. Tyler Dibling was given another chance to shine on the right wing with Ndiaye moving to his favoured left.
Everton advanced to the third round of the Carabao Cup following a dominant victory over Preston North End, highlighted by a clinical hat-trick from Thierno Barry. After a closely contested first half, Everton pushed forward and eventually forced Preston into submission.
The match began with a warm reception for former manager David Moyes, which set a lively atmosphere that energized the travelling Evertonians. While Preston looked to sit back in a resilient low block and strike on the counter-attack through Delano Burgzorg and Adam Armstrong, Everton safely neutralized those early threats. The Toffees dictated the tempo through key involvements from Iliman Ndiaye, Tyler Dibling, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, despite initially struggling to breach Preston's crowded defensive line.
The deadlock was finally broken when Dewsbury-Hall lobbed a precise ball over the top to Vitaliy Mykolenko, who slid a low cross into the middle for Thierno Barry to tap past goalkeeper Nichols. The Evertonians were in full voice. "Oh, Tierno Barry, oh, Tierno Barry!"

Saints quietly make late-night trade with 49ers for ex-Raiders fourth-round RB originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New Orleans Saints made some huge upgrades to the roster this offseason, one of those being the big free-agent signing of Travis Etienne Jr.
He's now the starter, and Alvin Kamara is the RB2, with Keandre Miller the third-string RB. But after adding Etienne, this room got a bit crowded. And yet, the Saints reportedly added another back late on Sunday night.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Saints traded linebacker Deion Jones to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for Zamir White. This is an interesting addition for the Saints, as it might reveal where a few of their injured tailbacks stand.
"Trade: the Saints are sending veteran LB Deion Jones to San Francisco in exchange for RB Zamir White, per sources," Schefter reports.

Tottenham Hotspur fans would have been expectant of great things coming into this season. Roberto De Zerbi had the squad performing admirably at the conclusion of last season as the club narrowly avoided relegation, and a strong preseason campaign combined with a flurry of activity in the transfer market seemed to herald a new dawn for the North London club. Instead, Spurs looked all at sea in their opening match of the 2026/27 season, crashing to a 3-0 defeat as they were dominated in all facets by a buoyant Brentford side.
Spurs' starting XI was much as expected, in line with the side De Zerbi had used in preseason accounting for absences due to World Cup duties, fitness, and injury. Mikey Moore made his second Spurs start on the right wing while Archie Gray captained the side, lining up at right back. He rounded out a new-look backline, with Gray, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, and Andy Robertson making up the back four. Keith Andrews named a strong side of his own, with new signing Mamadou Sangare lining up in midfield for Brentford and no room for Mikel Damsgaard, such was the quality of Brentford's other attacking options.
The first half was all Brentford, with Spurs looking all at sea. The home side nearly opened the scoring early via a set piece, as Andy Robertson's defensive header deflected narrowly over the crossbar, before Nathan Collins couldn't direct a header of his own on target. The chances kept coming for Brentford, as Keane Lewis-Potter easily beat Archie Gray to deliver a cross that was fortunate to not be directed by Jan Paul van Hecke into his own goal.
Brentford finally made their domination count. Mamadou Sangare played a one-two with Dango Outtara, as both Lucas Bergvall and Andy Robertson failed to track the run of the Malian midfielder. Outtara squared simply for Lewis-Potter, who was open on the penalty spot for essentially a tap-in.
It wasn't long before Brentford doubled their lead. Richarlison's pass back to Bergvall was loose with the Swede then too casual taking the ball in possession, losing out to Mathias Jensen. The Dane ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box and Antonin Kinsky made a meal of it, seemingly misjudging the direction of the shot as he reached back across his body to make the save. The Czech keeper succeeded only in palming the ball out to Vitaly Janelt who finished comfortable from close range. Spurs were stunned, and Brentford took a 2-0 lead into the half.

Italy U21 star Michael Kayode was on hand to send Brentford 3-0 up against Tottenham Hotspur in their first Premier League game of the 2026-27 season, piling more misery on Roberto De Zerbi in the Spurs dugout.
Kayode was in the right place at the right time to get a leg to the ball from the second phase of a corner to put Brentford 3-0 up against Tottenham three minutes into the second half at the Gtech Community Stadium.
His effort came after first-half strikes from Keane Lewis-Potter and Vitaly Janelt.
This was Kayode's second ever goal in the English top flight; his first coming in a 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in March earlier this year. He put pen to paper on a long-term contract extension with Brentford earlier this summer, committing his future to the Bees until the summer of 2032.
His goal came against an Italian head coach in Roberto De Zerbi. Italy international Sandro Tonali was also included in the Tottenham starting line-up.

In the summer of 1993, Manchester United won the ******* le and then signed Roy Keane in a British record transfer. In 2001, United won the ******* le and then bought Ruud van Nistelrooy. In 2008, the summer after winning the Premier League and Champions League, they signed Dimitar Berbatov not because they really needed him but because they could.
Each time, Alex Ferguson took steps not just to maintain the gap to their rivals but to grow it. Each time, United defended their Premier League crown.
Even before kick-off here at the Emirates Stadium, there was that familiar sense of a ******* le-winning manager ******* down the lid on the Premier League trophy they owned. Mikel Arteta's newest signing, Ezri Konsa, was paraded on the pitch to a standing ovation – quite the flex to sign the second best right-sided centre-half in the Premier League while the best, William Saliba, is sidelined with injury.
And after a few minutes of this opening 3-0 win over Coventry City, it was clear that Arteta had strengthened his attack too. Christos Tzolis impressed in pre-season games and topped most of ******* nal's fitness metrics. Here he buzzed into action on the left wing, legs whirring with the urgency of a man fleeing a swarm of bees, all fast-twitch jolts and excitable energy, exactly the sort of opponent Coventry's right-back Milan van Ewijk didn't want to face on his first Friday night live on Sky Sports.
Arsenal had a plethora of attacking options on the field: Kai Havertz led the line, Bukayo Saka started on the right and Martin Odegaard flitted in and out of the right half-space. But for all the passing lanes on offer, the gameplan became a simple one: when in the final third, seek Tzolis.

As Fiorentina's summer transfer window builds towards denouement with the future of Moise Kean, the secondary narrative couldn't be about anything other than his putative replacement. The usual rumormongers have offered up a handful of names: Lorenzo Lucca, Joshua Zirkzee, William Osula. None of those spark joy even in conjunction with the previously-signed Mateo Pellegrino. Recently, though, a new name darkened my consciousness, one that left me sweaty and shaking. Consider this my formal plea: Fabio Paratici, please, please, please do not sign Mauro Icardi.
If you've been living under a rock, Icardi looks like a great signing. He's hit 10+ league goals in 10 seasons across 4 clubs in 3 countries. He holds an Italian passport, speaks the language fluently, spent nearly a decade in Serie A with Sampdoria and Inter Milan, and has twice been capocannoniere. He's a free agent after his contract with Galatasaray ran out this summer following a 14-goal campaign which demonstrated he's recovered from a major knee injury the year before. At 33, he could have another couple productive seasons, especially because he's always relied more on his poaching instincts and lethal finishing more than his physicality.
If you haven't been living under a rock, though, you know that Icardi is just about the stupidest signing Fiorentina could make. I'm going to list four reasons. Feel free to add your own afterwards because whoo boy can you probably come up with more.
Mauro Icardi is a messy, messy guy. The tabloids have fed on him like vultures for years in a way that makes me uncomfortable but he seems incapable of, for want of a better phrase, being normal. His relationship with Wanda Nara is the stuff of podcasting legend. The tl;dr is that they started hooking up when she was married to his teammate and mentor Maxi López, leading to an ugly divorce and weird custody situation that included Icardi getting tattoos of López and Nara's kids.
That relationship ran its predictable course but not before Nara registered herself as his agent and initiated a disastrous falling out with Inter Milan. After all that, she found evidence of his infidelity and kicked off a years-long cycle of short-term breakups that reached its inevitable conclusion in an acrimonious divorce and subsequent legal battle over alimony and custody that's led to international travel bans, alleged leaks of "intimate videos," mutual accusations of cheating, and missed child support payments. Because the wrangling stretches across continents, it offers unprecedented legal complications and will probably drag on for years before a judge can make any sort of ruling.

The BBC has announced that four new pundits will join its rotating cast of Match of the Day experts for the new Premier League season.
Former Tottenham and Brentford manager Thomas Frank and the recently-retired Ashley Young will be part of the coverage on the channel, along with ex-Belgium centre half Toby Alderweireld and fellow former Spurs player Robbie Keane.
The quartet join an established roster of pundits that includes Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer. The presenting trio of Gabby Logan, Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates will continue in their second season after taking over from Gary Lineker fronting the programme.
While the long-standing highlights show remains in place, Saturday lunchtime's Football Focus has been axed after 52 years on the air.
BBC One will instead show The Football Interview, with Kelly Somers speaking to Tottenham midfielder James Maddison ahead of the first Saturday of the new top-flight season.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews says his side are "in a good place" going into the new Premier League season.
The Bees rounded off their pre-season schedule in style with an impressive 7-0 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, with attackers Kevin Schade, Igor Thiago, Dango Ouattara and Keane Lewis-Potter all on target.
New record signing Mamadou Sangare also found the net, while fellow summer additions Callum Wilson and Jaidon Anthony both also featured.
"It was a really good pre-season full stop," said Andrews post-match.
"I'm really content with the way we're moving as a group, the standards we set, the way the players pushed, and there were some really impressive performances today.

Perhaps never before has the Utah Open had such a Utah-centric leaderboard as it does after two rounds of the annual golf tournament, celebrating its 100th year this year at Riverside Country Club.
The top 11 golfers after 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament, sponsored by Larry H. Miller Company, are all Utah born-and-bred and each of the golfers is in his 20s with most having experience playing at one of the state's colleges.
Blake Tomlinson, a 27-year-old former University of Utah golfer, who won 2022 Utah Open, fired a 10-under-par 62 Saturday to take a two-stroke lead into Sunday's final round with a 16-under 128 total.
Two former BYU golfers, Carson Lundell and Simon Kwon, are tied at 130 with former Utah Tech golfer Jackson Rhees, while two more ex-Cougars, Rhett Rasmussen and Tyson Shelley, are tied for fifth, another stroke back at 131. Tied for seventh are ex-Ute Braxton Watts, former BYU golfer Keanu Akina and current BYU golfer Jackson Mauss, while another amateur, Parker Bunn, who plays for the Cougars, and Salt Lake's John Fox are tied for 10th at 133.
Tomlinson started off with two birdies and added three more to make the turn at 31. Then, on the back nine, he made five more birdies for another 31, just missing the Utah Open record of 61.

Brentford finished their pre-season smashing seven past Eintracht Frankfurt at the Indeed Invitational at the Gtech Community Stadium winning 7-0.
They go into their opening Premier League fixture at home to Spurs following a glut of goals.
The Bundesliga side, who had won all five of their previous pre-season games and finished eighth in the Bundesliga last season, were put to the sword in West London in front of more than 13,000 fans.
Braces from Kevin Schade and Igor Thiago, a home debut goal for Mamadou Sangaré and strikes from Keane Lewis-Potter and Dango Ouattara will have made some head turns even during pre-season.
Shade scored the opener after just two minutes, Sangaré volleyed from just outside the box after 12 minutes and Igor Thiago tapped the ball into an open goal to make it 3-0 at the half.

Evans had been looking to repeat her double victory for Scotland at this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
But she had to make do with silver - just as she had a year ago in the European short-course final in Lublin - behind last year's world silver medallist.
Meanwhile, compatriot Keanna Macinnes finished fifth in the women's 100m ******* erfly final won by world silver medallist Roos Vanotterdijk of Belgium.

While coaching staffs frequently remind fans to take early PR-generated depth charts with a grain of salt, this layout highlights several intense training camp position battles, personnel choices, and notable rookie standings.
Here are the key takeaways from each position group following the team's first depth chart release:
Justin Herbert firmly anchors the starting role. As no surprise, Trey Lance secures the direct backup QB2 spot over DJ Uiagalelei, setting expectations for how preseason game snaps will flow.
Omarion Hampton leads as the starting back. Behind him, Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal are locked in a tight committee race for the primary RB2 role. Alec Ingold is the clear FB1, backed up by Scott Matlock. Matlock has also been getting reps at offensive tackle throughout camp.
Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston are listed as the primary starters alongside Tre' Harris. Camp standout Brenen Thompson, who is ahead of Derius Davis and KeAndre Lambert-Smith, is rapidly building momentum to push for meaningful reps by the regular season.

The former Celtic striker was among the names seriously considered for the position before the Scottish champions ultimately turned to Martin O'Neill on a short-term basis.
Keane's potential appointment proved contentious among sections of the support, largely because of his previous spell in charge of Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The Irishman had appeared to be moving closer to the Celtic vacancy before Dermot Desmond eventually went in a different direction and handed responsibility to O'Neill.
However, former Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie does not believe Keane's managerial career should be defined by where he has previously worked.
