A magical ride for the Berlin Little League All-Stars ended on a rainy night in the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bristol, Conn.
Naamans Little League, the Delaware state champions, scored 11 times in the fifth inning to eliminate the Maryland state champions 12-4 on Aug. 10.
The trip to Connecticut could have had a much different ending as Berlin led by three runs in the fifth inning of both of its games.
"This is a great group of kids that we have," Berlin Little League manager Anthony Torreullas said. "It is a painful one, especially at this age. Just reassuring them how great it was to get here, how proud we are, how much we love them and they are going to remember times like this for the rest of their lives. The collective effort for the last couple of months, we appreciate it."
Delaware took the lead in the top of the fourth inning on Paddy Grugan's RBI single. That came one batter after Berlin center fielder Declan Soares made a catch after falling down.

Rayan Ghrieb surely must have been reminded of his own failed celebration when he saw this scene. During an away match at Berlin's Olympiastadion, the then-Magdeburg player jumped over the barrier and then fell into a 2.70-meter-deep trench. Fortunately, he was unhurt.
A similar scene has now also occurred in Brazil. During the match between Coritiba and Chapecoense (2-1), Coritiba captain Jacy scored in the 42nd minute. He grabbed the ball, jumped over the barrier, and suddenly disappeared. Right behind the barrier was the entrance to the players' tunnel.
Security staff immediately rushed to help. He was then treated by Coritiba's medical staff and initially continued playing, but had to be substituted at the start of the second half.
According to a report by 'Cazé TV,' the fall was the reason for the substitution. The center-back was later seen on the bench icing his ankle. The last time that Berlin Little League sent a team to the Little League Mid-Atlantic regional tournament at Breen Field in Bristol, Conn., they battled their way to the 2018 championship game by winning three elimination games.
This time out, Berlin manager Anthony Torreullas reminded his players that there is still plenty of baseball left to play, even after a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to Washington DC on Aug. 9.
Berlin led 5-1 and 6-3 before Capitol Hill Little League manufactured four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to two walks, two hits and two Maryland errors to have a 7-6 lead going into the sixth inning.
Berlin had the tying run on when Jonah Isett was hit by a pitch, but Everett Choi struck out the last two hitters to end the game. Berlin will play either Pennsylvania or Delaware on Monday at 5 p.m. in an elimination game.

NEW YORK — Sabrina Ionescu is shifting her focus to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics Games after not making the cut for the 12-woman FIBA World Cup squad, which is set to begin group play next month.
And the Liberty star had no hard feelings on the decision to leave her off this year's World Cup roster.
"I mean, not — kind of — but not really," Ionescu said when asked if she was surprised when she learned of not making the team. "I know I kind of dealt with some injuries. The final HCOB Germany services Purchasing Managers' Index, compiled by S&P Global, rose to 49.8 in July from 48.6 the month before, coming in slightly above an initial reading of 49.6.
A reading below 50.0 indicates contraction, and the closer it comes to that figure, the slower the rate of contraction.
"Business conditions have steadied across the service sector, with not only business activity coming close to stabilising in July, but employment too," said Phil Smith, economics ****** ociate director at S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Workforce numbers slipped only slightly, with the rate of job losses easing for a third straight month and the weakest since the current run of cuts began at the start of the year.

"He went, 'Why are you leaving?' And I said, 'Well, because I've seen it already, and twice,' and he said, Yeah, but you'll never get this opportunity again,'" Turner explained. "This is the moment to celebrate, and celebrate the work, and the work of everyone on the crew and beyond. I love these moments. They're always pinch-me moments."

Brenda ******* son is facing another legal challenge after a man asked a court for a civil harassment restraining order against the former soap opera actress. The request comes after ******* son's arrest for misdemeanor battery in July. At this point, the judge did not approve the temporary request, court records indicate. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Richard Chamberlin filed a request for a civil harassment restraining order against ******* son on Monday. Chamberlin alleges ******* son hit his daughter, Isabella, in the face and chest during a July 8 incident. He also says she ******* ped Isabella with trash bags, made threats, and verbally harassed several people. Those allegations have not been proven in court.
In the filing, Chamberlin claims to be a property maintenance worker and a renter in the building where ******* son lives. He requested that the court extend the protection to him, Isabella, and another tenant. Chamberlin also says that ******* son has stalked and verbally harassed them for the last two months. He requested that ******* son remain at least five yards away from all of them, including his dog.
The judge, after reading the filing, refused to grant a temporary restraining order. The court said the documents did not adequately demonstrate that ******* son had engaged in any violence, threatened to use violence or caused any significant emotional distress. The court scheduled a hearing for Aug. 24 to consider the request. The judge has not ruled on the merits of Chamberlin's allegations.
The filing follows ******* son's arrest in July on suspicion of misdemeanor battery. BERLIN, July 29 (Reuters) - German defence contractor Rheinmetall reported a stronger-than-expected second-quarter operating profit on Wednesday as booming demand for military equipment helped drive a sharp increase in revenue across all business segments.
Operating profit climbed to €562 million ($640 million), beating market expectations of about €470 million, while revenue rose nearly 70% from a year earlier to about €3.3 billion.
Rheinmetall had already said on July 2 that it expected revenue growth of more than 60% for the reporting period.
The company cautioned, however, that operating free cash flow is expected to be significantly negative in the quarter because advance payments were shifted into later periods.
The company's order backlog exceeded €80 billion in the quarter after it recorded €11.37 billion in new contract awards and programmes, including one from the German military for loitering munitions.

The 10-12 Maryland Little League Baseball State Championship was held last week in Hagerstown, Maryland, as teams from across Maryland competed for the state ***** le and a spot at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals. But only one team could walk away with that honor, and that team would be the Berlin Little League team.
After winning the District 8 Championship over local rivals, Berlin Little League arrived at the Maryland State Championship Tournament as one of seven teams hoping to take one step closer towards an appearance at the Little League World Series. And they did just that, as they brought the state championship back to Berlin.
It all culminated in their 6-2 victory over South Baltimore in the ***** le game, which capped off their unbeaten run to the ***** le. According to The Herald Mail, Berlin's Jonah Isett struck out five in 4⅔ innings, only allowing two runs and two hits to help lead Berlin to victory. FC Bayern have extended Erblin Osmani's contract early on. The 17-year-old midfield talent joined the record champions' youth academy when the campus opened in 2017 and has since progressed through all the youth teams.
Osmani joined FC Bayern's academy from TSV Milbertshofen's U9 team. Last season, he initially played for the U17s, then also for the U19s, and in March, in the Bundesliga home match against Union Berlin (4-0), he made his debut at the Allianz Arena under head coach Vincent Kompany. He is initially slated to play for the U19s next season. His new contract will automatically convert into a professional contract upon his 18th birthday.
Bayern Munich director of youth development Jochen Sauer is happy to see Osmani stick with the club.

BERLIN, July 14 (Reuters) - German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius on Tuesday urged timetable and budget discipline for a planned military satellite project valued at 10 billion euros ($11.45 billion), saying delays were unacceptable given current threats to security.
"We cannot afford delays in these times," Pistorius said during a visit to satellite maker OHB in Bremen.
Germany's armed forces are expected to award contracts for the project - dubbed SATCOMBw4 - around the end of 2026.
Designed to give the Bundeswehr sovereign ****** e-based communications capability similar to SpaceX's Starlink network, the project is expected to involve about 200 satellites, with an initial fleet of roughly 40 that could enter service from 2029.
"The Bundeswehr needs these capabilities," Pistorius said, citing requirements for early warning, reconnaissance, detection and communications in ****** e.

After four years with 1. FC Union Berlin, Danilho Doekhi decided to leave the German capital club at the end of his contract following the 2025/26 season.
Now, he may have found his next employer, with Sky reporting that he has reached a verbal agreement with Italian side SS Lazio.
However, the transfer is not yet complete, with the parties still working out the final details.

Right-hander Alex Petrovic grew up in Cypress, Texas, a suburb of Houston, the son of parents who played basketball at Oberlin College. Alex's physical gifts manifested themselves on the baseball diamond rather than the basketball court, and the youngster quickly began standing out on the sandlots around Texas. He attended Concordia Lutheran High School in Tomball, Texas, where he dominated as both a hitter and a pitch, earning TAPPS First Team All-State honors in 2022 and 2023. Inflammation in his right arm kept him off of the mound for the majority of his senior year, and may have cost him a selection in the 2023 MLB Draft; despite solid results, Petrovic was not considered an elite talent, and he ended up going undrafted, leading him to honor his commitment to Auburn University.
His career with the Tigers began inauspiciously, as the inflammation in his arm returned that fall. It calmed down to the point that, when the spring began, the right-hander was able to take the mound for his new team after missing the first three weeks of the season. Appearing in 7 games for Auburn, Petrovic allowed 7 earned runs in 11.0 innings, good for a 5.73 ERA, giving up 15 hits, walking 3, and striking out 17. There is a chance that the right-hander might have improved as the weather continued warming, but Petrovic sustained a stress fracture in his right elbow in early April, ending his season prematurely.
The right-hander had surgery on his elbow, having screws inserted into it, and returned to the mound at Plainsman Park for the 2025 season. Improbably, the exact same thing almost happened a second year in a row. The right-hander appeared in 7 games, starting 5, and posted a 4.34 ERA in 18.2 innings, allowing 13 hits, walking 4, and striking out 25, but once again, an injury on a different spot on his arm sustained in early April ended his season early. His velocity had backed up from the low-90s into the high-80s and his breaking **** did not look as sharp, and it was only a matter of time before something in his arm went off. A draft-eligible sophomore because of his age, Petrovic did not hear his name called in the 2025 MLB Draft.
When his arm felt better later that summer, the right-hander went to a baseball training facility in Lakeland, Florida- the Florida Base ARMory- and worked on making subtle changing his mechanics to put less stress on his arm and elbow and hopefully prevent a third-consecutive season-ending injury in 2026.
The 22-year-old returned to Auburn for his redshirt sophomore season armed with new mechanics and not only was he able to make it through the entire year without an injury, but Petrovic also had a very solid season. His fastball having gained a few ticks from the mechanical changes that were made and his secondary stuff looking sharper, he appeared in 17 games, starting all of them, and posted a 3.21 ERA in 92.2 innings, allowing 70 hits, walking 24, and striking out 92.

It calmed down to the point that, when the spring began, the right-hander was able to take the mound for his new team after missing the first three weeks of the season. Appearing in 7 games for Auburn, Petrovic allowed 7 earned runs in 11.0 innings, good for a 5.73 ERA, giving up 15 hits, walking 3, and striking out 17. There is a chance that the right-hander might have improved as the weather continued warming, but Petrovic sustained a stress fracture in his right elbow in early April, ending his season prematurely.
The right-hander had surgery on his elbow, having screws inserted into it, and returned to the mound at Plainsman Park for the 2025 season. Improbably, the exact same thing almost happened a second year in a row. The right-hander appeared in 7 games, starting 5, and posted a 4.34 ERA in 18.2 innings, allowing 13 hits, walking 4, and striking out 25, but once again, an injury on a different spot on his arm sustained in early April ended his season early. His velocity had backed up from the low-90s into the high-80s and his breaking **** did not look as sharp, and it was only a matter of time before something in his arm went off. A draft-eligible sophomore because of his age, Petrovic did not hear his name called in the 2025 MLB Draft.
When his arm felt better later that summer, the right-hander went to a baseball training facility in Lakeland, Florida- the Florida Base ARMory- and worked on making subtle changing his mechanics to put less stress on his arm and elbow and hopefully prevent a third-consecutive season-ending injury in 2026.
The 22-year-old returned to Auburn for his redshirt sophomore season armed with new mechanics and not only was he able to make it through the entire year without an injury, but Petrovic also had a very solid season. His fastball having gained a few ticks from the mechanical changes that were made and his secondary stuff looking sharper, he appeared in 17 games, starting all of them, and posted a 3.21 ERA in 92.2 innings, allowing 70 hits, walking 24, and striking out 92.
