Nebraska offensive lineman Justin Evans earned another preseason accolade on Thursday. The senior was named a second-team preseason All-America selection by The Athletic.
This marks the second honor for Evans, as he was on the Rimington Trophy Watch List earlier this month. The 6-2, 315-pound lineman is one of five Big Ten offensive linemen and one of two Big Ten centers to be selected as a preseason All-America.
Oregon's Iapani Laloulu was named first-team, starting 30 games in his career, including every game last season. He allowed only one sack and 11 pressures across the Ducks' 15 games last season.
Evans returns for his final season at Nebraska, looking to continue his streak of consecutive games played. The East Orange, N.J., native has made 38 straight appearances, including 31 starts. He's been a focal point in the Huskers' pipeline and is now a part of an experienced offensive line that formed this past offseason. Evans is one of two returning starters.
Last season, Evans started all 13 games at center. His play helped Emmett Johnson earn first-team All-America honors. Johnson averaged just under 121 yards per game on the ground last season. Nebraska averaged just under 146 rushing yards per game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that Emmet Sheehan, the promising right-hander, is headed back to the minor leagues after a brief stint with the team.
Sheehan, after getting moved down when Tarik Skubal arrived, had two outings down in Triple-A before coming back to the Dodgers recently for a long relief role.
However, the team is reversing course and giving him another chance to work down in the minors, likely as a starter.
LA needed bullpen pitching badly a few days ago after their key arms were taxed. Sheehan was supposed to help give some quality innings in bulk.

What does Oregon's Dante Moore (QB), Indian's Charlie Becker (WR), Iowa's Trevor Lauck (OT) and Nebraska's Justin Evans (C) all have in common?
They were named to the preseason All-American second team by The Athletic.
Justin Evans was also named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List for the upcoming season. Here is a statement from the Athletic Department on that topic:
Justin Evans was honored Thursday, as he was named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List. The 40-person preseason list is chosen by the trophy committee using data from Pro Football Focus (PFF).
Evans returns as one of the team leaders for the Huskers this fall, as the East Orange, N.J., native has 31 career starts at Nebraska and logged 38 career appearances as a Husker. He leads an experienced Husker offensive line that returns a pair of starters in 2026. Last season, he started all 13 games at center, paving the way for Emmett Johnson to earn first-team All-America honors. He started all 12 games at guard in 2024 and played in all 13 games, including five starts, as a redshirt freshman in 2023.

The kings of the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed captured a share of an eighth consecutive league ******* le last season. Two entire graduating classes — 2022 and 2025 — with no crossovers between them were both able to make their way through all four years winning league ******* les each year.
Those are lofty expectations for the newest set of incoming freshmen this year.
"Every year we lose some good players from last year," head coach Nick Yordy said. "But some of the guys that we did lose, these younger guys are really taking advantage of an opportunity to step up and get out on the field on a Friday night and go out there and try to win some football games."
That's not to say Badin will be made up of underclassmen as it does have several returning juniors and seniors, but the number of seniors lost, as Yordy indicated, does leave many questions for the Rams to answer this year.
It is easy fuel for motivation to prove any doubters wrong, according to senior Emmett Sackenheim.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will place struggling closer Edwin Diaz on the injured list and promote Triple-A right-hander Emmet Sheehan, according to separate reports Tuesday.
In 95.1 innings across 20 starts for the Dodgers this season, Sheehan had a 5.29 ERA. He allowed five runs on six hits over 2.2 innings against the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 2. He was optioned the next day.
Ostensibly he will give the Dodgers some length out of the bullpen for the middle game of their three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
MORE: Dodgers send message immediately after Tommy John's death
Diaz was one of the best closers in MLB before he signed a three-year, $69 million contract with the Dodgers in December 2025. He's posted an 11.85 ERA and blown four saves this season.

Over the last several years, one of the most persistent preseason storylines is whether Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian will expand his notably tight wide receiver rotation.
Asked on Monday about his "circle of trust" at the position, Sarkisian put the onus on his players to earn their playing time.
"I think ultimately the players kind of determine that. To go in and say, 'Hey, I want to play seven guys or whatever the number is,' they earn that trust of what the capacity is in which we can play them if they're in the ball game," Sarkisian said.
The top three receivers — junior transfer Cam Coleman, junior Ryan Wingo, and junior Emmett Mosley — are well within that circle of trust for Sarkisian and position coach Chris Jackson and need little introduction. Any rotation behind those three players will require one of them coming off the field, with available snaps for those three standouts already limited by Sarkisian's preference to frequently use two tight ends.
So, beyond managing in-game load for the top players, can the backups play well enough during preseason camp and non-conference opportunities to earn the level of trust necessary to earn snaps? Four of the six backups already have.

Kellan Lutz has spoken about the mental toll of ending the Twilight franchise and unsuccessfully auditioning for other films.
Lutz, 41, played Emmett Cullen across all five Twilight films, and despite the $3.3 billion success of the vampire franchise, the actor struggled to land other franchise roles, some of which were for Marvel Studios.
The entertainer appeared on the Tuesday (August 11) episode of podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum and discussed the aftermath of Twilight along with his succeeding auditions. The Twilight run ended in 2012 with the fifth installment Breaking Dawn - Part 2.

Although the Kansas City Chiefs lost the preseason opener 20-12 to the Los Angeles Rams, the defeat produced encouraging performances and positive takeaways.
One noteworthy performance came from rookie running back Emmett Johnson, who delivered a strong effort when given the opportunity. Mostly operating with the second- and third-string offense, Johnson finished the game with 59 yards on 12 attempts, as well as 3 receptions out of the backfield. Johnson also had several positive plays negated by penalties, including a touchdown from roughly five yards out.
Johnson made a strong case to continue to receive opportunities as a complementary piece in the offense. He showed the talent to be another valuable option out of the backfield, along with last year's Super Bowl MVP and new Chief Kenneth Walker III. Johnson's efforts did not go unnoticed by his head coach Andy Reid.
"He did a nice job with it," Reid told local media in his post-game press conference. "He ran hard and aggressive, had some yards after contact there, which is a big thing. He was one of the positives coming out of this, I thought he did a nice job."
Johnson displayed an aggressive and tough running style. He read blocks and hit the available holes hard, without hesitation. He was the main cog in the Chiefs' offensive attack in the preseason opener.

A former Nebraska running back made his professional debut on Saturday afternoon. Emmett Johnson had 12 carries for 59 yards in the Kansas City Chiefs' 20-12 preseason loss to the L.A. Rams.
Johnson was selected by the Chiefs with pick 161 in the fifth round. The Minneapolis native is the first Husker running back selected in the NFL draft since the Detroit Lions selected Ameer Abdullah with pick 54 in the second round. Johnson was named the Big Ten Running Back of the Year for his performance last season.
In 12 games last season, he had 1,451 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had 46 catches for 370 yards, bringing his all-purpose yards total to 1,821 yards, second in the nation for running backs.
Johnson appeared in 41 games in his Nebraska career and recorded 2,460 yards in 458 carries. He joins a Chiefs team that ranked near the bottom of the NFL in rushing last season.
Running back Kareem Hunt led the team with 611 rushing yards. Johnson's role will likely expand beyond special teams as the season unfolds, but he is ready to do whatever the team asks of him if he can help the team win.

Saturday's Texas Longhorns scrimmage was supposed to be the first time coach Steve Sarkisian got to see his team in full pads under game conditions. There are also some key position battles that were supposed to be decided. Instead, the practice has turned into a M.A.S.H. unit with several key players were out with the flu.
Sark said the flu bug has ripped through the team this week. Many are still dealing with the bug and couldn't participate in today's simulated game practice. Wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon, defensive lineman Justus Terry, edge/linebacker Brad Spence, linebacker Rasheem Biles, linebacker Ty'Anthony Smith and cornerback John Meredith all sat out.
That is especially tough on two players that were hoping to elevate their standing within the depth chart. Terry and Smith are both trying to secure a starting spot before the season opener against Texas State on Sept. 5. It is hard on Biles too who is still adjusting to his new team.
Sarkisian also held out Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo, Emmett Mosley and quarterback Arch Manning after the first series before inserting them again for a red-zone possession prior to their return for the second half. It resulted in what Sarkisian described as an "up and down" performance by Manning.
"I don't think that's really indicative of him being out in the spring," said Sarkisian. "I thought he's had a great first week and a half of training camp. I've been extremely impressed. Probably wasn't as fair to him today. I wanted them to almost feel like an NFL preseason game one. But at the same token, when we went to thud tempo and it wasn't live, I wanted to try to get him reps, and those reps didn't come until the second half. So I think he can play cleaner than he played today, and a little bit more efficient, a little bit more accurate, but there were also some high-level plays that were made, too."

Kansas City Chiefs' running back Emmett Johnson went viral after receiving a rough hit during training camp from teammate DB Xavier Nwankpa.
Johnson was running a route in an open scrimmage when Nwankpa levelled him with a hard hit, prompting teammates to help the former Nebraska Cornhuskers RB up.
Nwankpa and Johnson were on opposite ends of a heated college rivalry, as Nwankpa was a DB for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Johnson spoke to the media after training camp and downplayed the hit from Nwankpa, chalking it up to being just football and issuing a warning for the next time such a situation develops.
"That's just football, man, it was 7 on 7–I gotta use my pad level and next time you're going to see what happens."

An overlooked area the Oregon Ducks need to find a solution for in fall camp is in the kicking game. Atticus Sappington handled kickoffs, field goals and point-after-attempts over the past two seasons, but now that he has left the program, the Ducks need a new leg.
Special teams coordinator Joe Lorig didn't let the moment catch him by surprise. Instead, he's prepared Gage Hurych as the likely heir to Oregon's kicking throne.
"Gage is a guy we've been prepping for the last several years for this spot," Lorig told reporters on Monday. "We've been testing him in practice over the last couple of years. He had great mentors before him, so super excited about him. ... Pretty confident to say that Gage is going to be the guy."
Hurych won't be flying into the 2026 season without experience. In two seasons as a Duck, Hurych has converted all 17 PATs he has attempted, thanks to Lorig slowly integrating him into games. In the spring game, Hurych handled all the kicking duties. Again, he was perfect on PATs and made field goals from 35 and 45 yards. The Ducks even opted to let Hurych show off his powerful leg on attempts from 51 and 52 yards out, but he was off line on both tries.
Keaton Emmett and Rocco Graziano will continue to push Hurych in fall camp, and Emmett could be in line to handle some of the kickoff duties.

Los Angeles Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan exited his start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday after just 0.2 innings pitched.
Up until Aug. 3, Sheehan had spent the entirety of the season in MLB with the Dodgers—though it hadn't exactly gone to plan. Sheehan's velocity fell off of a cliff at the start of the season, and his ERA rose from a solid 2.82 mark last season to 5.29 this season.
The Dodgers optioned him to Triple-A Monday, and he made his first minor-league start of the season against the Salt Lake Bees, and allowed a hit and a walk before exiting the game in the first inning. He got charged with two runs on the outing, as an inherited runner scored from second after his exit.
Sheehan's appearance shouldn't raise any red flags, though, as Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported the Dodgers intended for Sheehan to leave the game early.
"This was a pre-planned abbreviated outing for Emmet Sheehan for workload purposes with the expectation of having a normal outing next time through the rotation," he wrote via X.

Last year, Emmet Carroll's mother sent him a clip of tennis legend Roger Federer's commencement speech at Dartmouth College.
An avid tennis fan, Carroll's interest was piqued when Federer mentioned how he won 80% of his career matches, but only 54% of his career points. During those points, Federer felt they were the most important thing in the world. When he lost, though, he moved on.
The same process applies to Carroll. Like any goalie, he immediately knows when he should've saved a shot, and his natural reaction is to dwell on it. At the University of Pennsylvania, he learned to work through that, but being mentally strong as a goalie is an evolving process.
"That's helped me just move on," Carroll said of the Federer speech. "The film's always going to be there after the game, and you're always going to sort of wish you had it back, but it does you no good in that moment dwelling on it."
As the Maryland Whipsnakes prepare for their final regular-season stretch and likely playoff run, they need Carroll to be at the top of his game. Utah's Brett Dobson is the only goalie with at least five starts who has a better save percentage (60.1%) than Carroll (56.8%). However, like the rest of his team, Carroll is still trying to consistently put together complete outings.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III spoke with reporters after practice on Tuesday at Missouri Western State University. He discussed his care for the younger players in the running back room, watching him as a veteran mentor.
"Just bringing guys with me. I have been here longer than them in (the) league. I don't want them to make the same mistakes I made when I was just getting to the league, if that makes sense," said Walker. "I want them to learn quicker than I learned. I don't want there to be a drop-off at all. So, making sure those guys are good. They have been doing great. Everybody in the room has been doing great. I just want to make sure we are all on the same accord."
During the 2025 season, Walker rushed for 1,027 yards to go along with five touchdowns. He also made an impact in the passing game with 31 receptions for 282 yards. Kansas City revamped the running backs room to be led by Walker, with rookie Emmett Johnson added in the draft, Free agent signing Emari Demercado, and second-year player Brashard Smith.
The Super Bowl LX MVP is expected to be an upgrade over last year's Chiefs unit, which had no player reach 1,000 yards.

"Just bringing guys with me. I have been here longer than them in (the) league. The Dodgers entered the 2026 season with ambitions of becoming team to three-peat in 26 years. Following Monday's trade deadline, they echoed that sentiment with a summer blockbuster and an encore.
Their string of deals began late Saturday night, as after suffering a 3-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox, they struck a deal that infuriated nearly the entire baseball world. The Dodgers landed two-time defending AL Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers while sending away outfield prospect Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan and pitching prospect Brady Smith.
The addition of Skubal not only invigorates an already vaunted rotation (when fully healthy), it gives the Dodgers another left-handed option that is a proven innings eater. Before Skubal needed surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow, he had logged at least six innings of work in six of his first seven starts. He hasn't matched his pre-injury average start length since returning on June 13, but he has logged at least five innings in all but one of his nine final starts in Detroit.
For a Dodgers rotation that is still missing Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, adding Skubal in the mix keeps the six-man rotation as the norm for the pitching staff down the stretch. With Emmet Sheehan's demotion to Triple-A, the current rotation features Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki, Justin Wrobleski and Eric Lauer, and until the other three starters return, the Dodgers could implement a weekly bullpen game. Skubal will certainly headline the four-man rotation in the postseason, and the Dodgers have seven options to choose to accompany him come October.
Gauging what the postseason rotation will be a work in progress until October arrives. Skubal and Yamamoto are shoe-ins at the top, but the final two spots are completely up for grabs. Blake Snell is set to return next week after a final rehab start, while Tyler Glasnow has yet to embark on his rehab ***** ignment. The latter is projected to return sometime in September. Ohtani's status for returning to the mound in the regular season is unclear, though the team expects him back in October. The trio of Sasaki, Wrobleski and Lauer all were used exclusively in relief last year for both the Dodgers and Blue Jays.

The arrival of Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers made Emmet Sheehan expendable.
A disastrous outing the day before the trade deadline appears to have sealed his fate. Manager Dave Roberts told reporters Monday that the Dodgers are optioning Sheehan to to Triple-A Oklahoma City. By optioning Sheehan, the Dodgers send him directly to the minor leagues without him having to clear waivers.
Roberts delivered the news minutes after the conclusion of the MLB trade deadline.
"It's going to give him a chance to reset and get out of this hotbox of performance," Roberts said. "Obviously, we believe in him. We've shown that year in and year out. …
"We've just got to get him back to being who he is."

Tarik Skubal made his first appearance in the Los Angeles dugout Sunday.
The Dodgers could have used him on the mound. They suffered an 8-4 defeat to the Boston to cap a three-game sweep at home at the hands of the red-hot Red Sox.
While the winning end of the sweep means considerably more for the Red Sox than losing does to the Dodgers, it did put a slight damper over Dodger Stadium amid the jubilation of of the Skubal acquisition. And it signaled what could be the beginning of the end of Emmet Sheehan's time in the Dodgers' rotation.
Skubal was on hand to witness the loss in his first public appearance with the Dodgers since being traded from the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. He sported a Dodger blue hoodie and cap while sharing an embrace with his new manager, Dave Roberts, in the dugout.

LOS ANGELES — The calendar says August, but Sunday at Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium felt more like October anxiety.
The Dodgers didn't just lose to the Boston Red Sox. They were exposed.
An 8-4 loss completed a three-game sweep in which the Dodgers were outscored 20-10, outplayed in every phase and left searching for answers just one day before the trade deadline. At 69-43, the Dodgers still own one of baseball's best records, but this weekend served as another reminder that talent alone isn't carrying this club right now.
And nowhere was that more evident than in Emmet Sheehan's latest outing.

The Dodgers were swept for just the second time this season after the red-hot Boston Red Sox hit four home runs, including three off embattled starter Emmet Sheehan, to take an 8-4 win on Sunday night at Dodger Stadium.
Boston hit three home runs in four at-bats in the third inning, with Sheehan giving up blasts to Ceddanne Rafela, Wilyer Abreu and Masataka Yoshida as the Dodgers suffered their second three-game sweep at home in less than a month.
"Really good ball club," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said about the Red Sox before the game. "Really fundamentally sound. It's a younger group, as far as service time. They're hungry. Seems like they play well together. They can really defend. They're athletic. Remind me a lot of the Brewers. They can really pitch. They don't beat themselves. Dynamic. They put the ball in play."

The hottest team in baseball stays sizzling, as the Boston Red Sox crushed four home runs against the Dodgers on Sunday, winning 8-4 and completing the sweep.
It was another rough first inning for Emmet Sheehan, as he allowed a leadoff walk to Nick Sogard to begin the game. After getting Ceddanne Rafeala to ground into a fielder's choice, Wilyer Abreu singled up the middle. One pitch was all Sheehan needed to get Willson Contreras to line out to left, but the Red Sox broke through with a pair of two-out, RBI singles from Masataka Yoshida and Caleb Durbin. Sheehan finished his first inning with a strikeout, limiting Boston to the two runs, albeit on 30 pitches.
Sheehan would bounce back in the second inning, as he faced the minimum while striking out the side in order.
The Dodgers strung across a one-out rally in the bottom of the second inning against rookie Jake Bennett, as Kyle Tucker, Teoscar Hernández and Max Muncy singled to load the bases for Eliézer Alfonzo. Alfonzo drove home Tucker one a groundout to put the Dodgers on the board, and after an intentional walk to Shohei Ohtani, Andy Pages gave the Dodgers the lead with an opposite field, two-strike, two-run single.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost their series finale against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, suffering a sweep at the hands of the red-hot AL East squad.
The Dodgers struggled to score runs against the Red Sox, scoring four or fewer runs in each of the three games. Emmet Sheehan started for the Dodgers in the last game of the series, and struggled to keep runs off of the board during his outing.
He threw just 2.2 innings, allowing five runs before the Dodgers pulled him. Two of those runs came in the bottom of the first inning, when Masataka Yoshida and Caleb Durbin both logged RBI singles to take an early lead.
The Dodgers claimed their only lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning, as Eliezer Alfonzo grounded out to score Kyle Tucker with the bases loaded before Andy Pages brought two more runners home with a single.
LA's lead didn't last long, though, as the Red Sox hit back-to-back home runs to start the third inning, regaining the lead. Yoshida struck again shortly after, hitting a home run of his own to make the score 5-3. Sheehan got one more out after Yoshida's home run before exiting the game.

Dodgers close to acquiring Tarik Skubal in blockbuster three-player trade originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Dodgers may be about to pull off the biggest trade of the MLB season. Los Angeles is close to acquiring Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal in exchange for right-hander Emmet Sheehan, Double-A outfielder Zyhir Hope and Class-A right-hander Brady Smith, according to a source who spoke with The Athletic.
The deal had not yet been officially announced, meaning the return could still change or negotiations could encounter a late obstacle. If completed as reported, however, the Dodgers would add a two-time reigning American League Cy Young Award winner to an already star-studded roster.
Skubal has gone 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 116 strikeouts over 96.2 innings this season. The 29-year-old left-hander has allowed only 74 hits and 14 walks across 16 starts.
He was particularly dominant in his final two July outings, recording 18 strikeouts and allowing four earned runs over 14 innings against the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles.

Although Saquon Barkley clearly leads the Eagles' backfield, Tank Bigsby is poised to take a huge leap in his fourth NFL season. Here's why fantasy managers should reach early for the handcuff.
There is room on this team for both Barkley and Bigsby to thrive, at least relatively speaking. Barkley has had 288+ regular-season touches in four straight seasons. He's still the workhorse, and last year's letdown was predictable (as discussed last summer) given his massive 2024 workload.
Bigsby's RB55 ADP (down from RB52 three weeks ago) reflects the fantasy market's uncertainty about his usage. After earning only 61 touches last year, he's ranked behind Dylan Sampson (RB51), Isiah Pacheco (RB52), Keaton Mitchell (RB53), Emmett Johnson (RB54), and many other second- and third-stringers.
It doesn't make sense. He was among the league leaders with 3.1 yards-after-first-contact on 63 rushing attempts. He didn't get his first snap in Philly until Week 7 and frequently outplayed Barkley while running behind the same offensive line. I don't think the Eagles will overwork Barkley. 300-325 touches seems realistic. That would open the door to at least 100, or even 125, touches for Bigsby.
Volume-wise, that would probably put him in the top 50, possibly the top 45. And if Barkley is ever sidelined, Bigsby would have top-20 appeal in a plus offense.
