Nebraska football extended an offer to one of the top young quarterbacks in the country. Lord Malik Heru is a class of 2029 quarterback from Indian River High School out of Chesapeake, Virginia.
Nebraska is the latest scholarship in what has become a growing offer sheet. Virginia Tech, South Carolina, SMU, Duke, and Pittsburgh have all made offers. Heru's recruitment is certainly on the rise, and it seems like the Huskers are working to get in on this recruitment early.
The quarterback had a successful freshman season, with 1,279 yards, 13 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He was offered a scholarship after a conversation with quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas.
The class of 2029 is still a ways out, but nevertheless, it is smart to get in on quarterback recruitment this early. It will be interesting to see how Nebraska handles it moving forward.
After a conversation with _CoachGThomas I am blessed receive an offer from the University of Nebraska. Thank you CoachMattRhule Holgorsendana #Nebraska #GBR #Huskers #NebraskaFootball #Cornhuskers #GoBigRed pic.twitter.com/YkKovgrp50

The College Baseball Foundation announced the winner of the 2026 Brooks Wallace Award on Saturday. This year, Nebraska senior Dylan Carey was named the recipient.
The award goes to the nation’s top shortstop based on his performance both offensively and defensively. It is named after former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980 and tragically passed away from leukemia at the age of 27.
The award was first presented in 2004, initially recognizing the National Player of the Year until 2009. Carey is the second Husker to win the Brooks Wallace Award, joining Alex Gordon, who won the honor as the national player of the year in 2005.
Carey earned the honor after concluding a massive collegiate career for Nebraska. The senior also made first-team All-Big Ten and won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year by earning a .981 fielding percentage with just four errors in 216 chances. He also recorded 29 double plays at shortstop.
In the batter's box, the Castle Rock, Colorado, native hit a .353 average, totaling career-highs in hits (85), RBIs (65), home runs (15), runs scored (53) and triples (two). He also struck 16 doubles. Carey also finished his career with 266 hits, 167 RBIs and 165 runs, becoming the ninth Husker in program history to reach the 200-150-150 mark. He did become the team's all-time leader in career doubles with 63.

Entering the College World Series, Ole Miss baseball had not lost a game in the NCAA Tournament.
As an unseeded team, the Rebels had gone 5-0 through the Lincoln Regional and Auburn Super Regional.
However, when the Rebels took the field against Troy at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 14, they found themselves in an unfamiliar position coming off a loss to North Carolina in their CWS opener.
For the first time in this year’s NCAA Tournament, Ole Miss was challenged with having to bounce back from defeat. With their season on the line, the Rebels failed to deliver, losing 12-8 to the Trojans.
It all started to go wrong for Ole Miss (41-23) in the fifth inning with the Rebels up 6-2.

Troy baseball bounced back from losing its opener in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, to slug its way to a 12-8 victory over Ole Miss in an elimination game on Sunday, June 14.
So what's next for the Trojans?
And, more importantly, who is next?
The Trojans (40-31), who swept Little Rock in a home super regional, will play again on Tuesday, Jun 16, at 1 p.m. CT vs the winner of Sunday evening's game between West Virginia and North Carolina. West Virginia beat Troy 7-5 on Friday to send Troy to the losers bracket.
Troy beat Florida twice and also knocked off Miami to win the Gainesville (Florida) Regional to make it to the super regional round.

Earlier today, the Big Ten announced the confirmed conference matchups for the 2026-2027 Big Ten women’s basketball season. As a result, we now know which teams Rutgers will play at home and which teams they will play on the road. That list is as follows:
Home: Illinois, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, UCLA, USC
Away: Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Washington, Oregon

Home & Away: Penn State
This is the third year in a row that Rutgers will see Penn State twice on the hardwood in women’s basketball.
Unlike men’s basketball next season, which will play 20 conference games, women’s basketball will only play 18. That is why men’s basketball has three home-and-home opponents, while women’s basketball has only one.

The ever-changing landscape of college athletics continues to get altered by legal rulings, and the latest one has a chance to directly impact Arizona teams’ upcoming schedules.
A judge in Texas ruled Monday that Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby can play this season despite being caught betting on college football, including on his own team when he was a freshman at Indiana. Sorsby, who transferred from Cincinnati in the winter, had been banned by the NCAA for his sports betting but Judge Ken Curry of Texas’ 99th District Court issued a temporary injunction.
Curry, a Texas Tech graduate whose courtroom is in Lubbock, ruled that Sorsby would “suffer a probable, imminent and irreparable injury” if not allowed to play for the Red Raiders, who reportedly are paying him $5 million for the 2026 season.
The NCAA has filed an “accelerated appeal,” according to The Athletic, with the Court of Appeals for the Seventh District of Texas. All four judges on that panel graduated from Texas Tech.
In the immediate fallout after the judge’s ruling, some schools—Georgia and Nebraska—have publicly announced they won’t schedule Tech for future games. But that might just be the start of a boycott.

Former FSU Seminoles football commit cornerback Bryce Williams has found his new home, committing to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, according to Zach Blostein of 247Sports.
Williams is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and committed to the Seminoles back on April 1, 2025, after the Seminoles issued him a scholarship in February of 2025. While they fought to hold onto his recruitment, the four-star prospect ultimately decommitted from FSU on Dec. 9, 2025, shortly after they fired defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain.
He is ranked as the No. 315 overall player and No. 36 cornerback in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 27 player from Florida.
FSU has had four players decommit from their 2027 recruiting class after back-to-back poor seasons on the field. Four-star cornerback Jaylen Scott flipped to the Auburn Tigers but is now committed to the Oklahoma Sooners, Mekhi Williams flipped to the Wisconsin Badgers, and three-star wide receiver Kaneilius Purdy committed to the UCF Knights.
FSU's 2027 recruiting class has seven commitments, with just two four-star prospects committed. The Seminoles will have a chance to add to the group over the next few weeks as they host several top targets on official visits.

A pair of SEC rivals are ready to collide at Plainsman Park with a trip to the College World Series on the line as the Auburn Tigers host the Ole Miss Rebels for game one of the Auburn Super Regional. Friday's game between the Tigers and Rebels will be the first of the season despite both teams playing in the same conference.
Auburn baseball grabbed the No. 4 national seed in this season's NCAA Tournament and is hosting an NCAA Super Regional for the second-straight season. The Tigers are hoping to erase last season's Super Regional result, where they were swept in two games by eventual national runner-up Coastal Carolina.
Auburn earned its place in this season's Super Regional by winning four games over three days last weekend in the Auburn Regional. After dropping its Auburn Regional opener to Milwaukee, Auburn rattled off wins over NC State and UCF, and ended the weekend by getting revenge on Milwaukee by beating them in two straight games.
Ole Miss swept the competition at the Lincoln Regional, hosted by Nebraska, last weekend. Ole Miss defeated Arizona State twice and Nebraska once to earn the chance to play an SEC foe on a big stage.

Vanderbilt basketball is set to take on Notre Dame in both men's and women's basketball in the 2026 ACC/SEC Challenge in December, the league announced June 5.
The women will host the Irish at Memorial Gymnasium on Dec. 3 in a rematch of the Sweet 16 game between the two in 2026, which Notre Dame won.
Key players from both teams will return, including Mikayla Blakes, Aubrey Galvan and Hannah Hidalgo. Both players were conference players of the year in 2026, with Blakes being the SEC Player of the Year and Hidalgo capturing the ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. It was the first Sweet 16 appearance for Vanderbilt since 2009.
The men will travel to South Bend for a matchup at Purcell Pavilion on Dec. 2. Notre Dame did not make the NCAA Tournament in 2026, finishing with a 13-18 season. Vanderbilt made it to the second round of the tournament, where it lost to Nebraska. The Commodores will return star guard Tyler Tanner with a slate of transfers headlined by Ace Glass from Washington State and Sebastian Williams-Adams from Auburn.
Game times and TV info will be released at a later date.

After Tounde Yessoufou elected to commit to St. John’s late last month, the UCLA Bruins are running out of options for impact players to bring into the program following two-straight Round of 32 NCAA Tournament exits for Mick Cronin’s team.
The Bruins were projected to be a top college basketball team last year but under-performed throughout the season. Now UCLA will be without Donovan Dent and Tyler Bilodeau for the 2026-2027 season but haven’t properly replaced their two star seniors.
ESPN released an early Top-25 ranking and writer Jeff Borzello doesn’t have the Bruins making the cut. Borzello lists UCLA as a part of the “Next five” teams but after a quiet offseason, expectations are subdued in Westwood.
It’s not as if Borzello was afraid of Big Ten Conference teams either, with five Big Ten teams included in the Top-25. The defending champion Michigan Wolverines lead the way in the Big Ten at No. 3, with No. 4 Illinois, No. 8 Michigan State, No. 12 USC and No. 22 Nebraska following the Wolverines in the ranking.
It is a bit strange to see the USC Trojans listed ahead of UCLA in men’s basketball rankings but it shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Trojans have invested heavily into their roster and the Bruins have proven to be less willing to dig deep into their NIL pockets to bring in top-end talent. USC head coach Eric Musselman has yet to win an NCAA Tournament game with the Trojans but he’s been able to land top recruits, which will eventually lead to success for Musselman and the program.

We’re towards the latter end of spring high school football in the states that participate around the country, but this is a critical time for many programs when it comes to preparation for the upcoming 2026 campaign. The most important position on the field, quarterback, is often the most heavily scrutinized and always under the microscope of those who cover high school football. Rivals is taking a look state-by-state at each state’s top 5 returning signal callers and we head out back to the Midwest for some Nebraska high school football as we work our way around the country. Take a look at our top 5 and let us know what you think and who we may have missed.
[ $19.99 gets you a FULL year of On3 | Rivals national coverage ]
Scouting Summary: “Well-rounded, polished signal caller with one of the stronger arms in the 2027 cycle. Measured at a shade under 6-foot-3, 200 pounds with 9.25-inch hands prior to his senior season. Brings a combination of high-end arm talent and refinement to the table. Has a whippy release that uncoils quickly to generate fast arm action. Added arm strength in the off-season prior to his senior year. Can drive the football to all areas of the field with palpable zip. Rips throws out to the far hash and up the seam. Throws a tight spiral that cuts through the wind. Has proven to be accurate in multiple settings. Hyper-trained and plays with a good level of consistency as a passer. Passed for over 3,300 yards and 36 touchdowns against 5 interceptions as a junior. Tabbed as Rivals MVP at the Elite 11 Finals in the off-season prior to his senior season. Shows the ability to extend plays, but at his most comfortable when working from within structure. Improved rushing ability and overall athleticism from sophomore to junior year. Default arm slot is in the ¾ to side arm range. Level of improvement late in his high school career should be taken as a positive. Looks like one of the top quarterbacks in the cycle entering his senior season with the upside to develop into an early round draft pick.” – Rivals Director of Scouting and Rankings, Charles Power
The Skinny: When it came down to putting up strong statistics out of the state of Nebraska last season, it was Warren lighting the airwaves of opposing secondaries in 2025. The Missouri commitment was stellar for Westside last season, finishing the campaign completing 125 of 202 passes for 1,847 yards, 27 touchdowns and only six picks. Warren also was solid via the ground game, rushing for 288 yards and scoring three times.
The Skinny: One of the leaders among the 2027 class of quarterbacks from the Cornhusker State was the South Dakota commitment. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound signal caller was superb as he helped lead the team to a perfect season at 13-0 and to a state championship. Teply last year ended up completing 152 of 237 passes for 2,362 yards and 27 touchdowns. With his senior season left before leaving for college, expect Teply to have his most productive year.

Auburn Sophomore Chase Fralick was named as a finalist for the Buster Posey Catcher of the Year Award, via Wichita Sports Commission on Monday, June 1.
The sophomore catcher becomes the first Auburn Tiger to be named a finalist for the award. The award is presented every year to the top catchers throughout the nation in college baseball. This year's finalists are John Embury (Florida Gulf Coast), Daniel Jackson (Georgia), Vahn Lackey (Georgia Tech), and Carson Tinney (Texas).
Fralick dominates the stat sheet for many batting categories for the Tigers. He leads Auburn in homers with 20, RBIs with 60, and a slugging percentage of .662. The sophomore's 20 homers are the most by an Auburn catcher in program history. His fielding percentage this season has been .996, catching eight runners stealing and one pickoff.
Thanks to Fralick's performances in the regional home run, the Tigers are now advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals. Auburn is set to host fellow SEC school, the Ole Miss Rebels, on Friday, June 5, for game one.
The Buster Posey Catcher of the Year Award will be announced live at the Men's College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. It is set to begin on Saturday, June 13, at 12:30 p.m. CT with the rest of the College Baseball Foundation awards.

Head Coach: PJ Fleck (10th year, 66-44 at Minnesota, 96-66 overall)
2025 Record: 8-5 overall, 5-4 Big Ten
Quick 2025 Recap
Minnesota completed its second straight 8-5 season, thanks to an overtime win over New Mexico in the Rate Bowl. Their most notable wins from the season include a snowy 17-7 win over bitter rival Wisconsin for Paul Bunyan’s Axe and a 24-6 beatdown of a then 25th-ranked Nebraska team, which almost immediately blew up the “Matt Rhule-to-Penn State” hype train. Unfortunately for the Gophers, their other two games against ranked opponents ended rather poorly, suffering a 42-3 shellacking at No.1 Ohio State and a 42-13 beatdown at 7th-ranked Oregon. They also got waxed 41-3 against their other bitter rival, Iowa at Kinnick Stadium and lost a close one at Northwestern, 38-35. Overall though, for program standards under PJ Fleck’s tenure, it was about par for the course.
