Tarik Skubal made his first appearance in the Los Angeles dugout Sunday.
The Dodgers could have used him on the mound. They suffered an 8-4 defeat to the Boston to cap a three-game sweep at home at the hands of the red-hot Red Sox.
While the winning end of the sweep means considerably more for the Red Sox than losing does to the Dodgers, it did put a slight damper over Dodger Stadium amid the jubilation of of the Skubal acquisition. And it signaled what could be the beginning of the end of Emmet Sheehan's time in the Dodgers' rotation.
Skubal was on hand to witness the loss in his first public appearance with the Dodgers since being traded from the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. He sported a Dodger blue hoodie and cap while sharing an embrace with his new manager, Dave Roberts, in the dugout.

The hottest team in baseball stays sizzling, as the Boston Red Sox crushed four home runs against the Dodgers on Sunday, winning 8-4 and completing the sweep.
It was another rough first inning for Emmet Sheehan, as he allowed a leadoff walk to Nick Sogard to begin the game. After getting Ceddanne Rafeala to ground into a fielder's choice, Wilyer Abreu singled up the middle. One pitch was all Sheehan needed to get Willson Contreras to line out to left, but the Red Sox broke through with a pair of two-out, RBI singles from Masataka Yoshida and Caleb Durbin. Sheehan finished his first inning with a strikeout, limiting Boston to the two runs, albeit on 30 pitches.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost their series finale against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, suffering a sweep at the hands of the red-hot AL East squad.
The Dodgers struggled to score runs against the Red Sox, scoring four or fewer runs in each of the three games. Emmet Sheehan started for the Dodgers in the last game of the series, and struggled to keep runs off of the board during his outing.
He threw just 2.2 innings, allowing five runs before the Dodgers pulled him. Two of those runs came in the bottom of the first inning, when Masataka Yoshida and Caleb Durbin both logged RBI singles to take an early lead.
The Dodgers claimed their only lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning, as Eliezer Alfonzo grounded out to score Kyle Tucker with the bases loaded before Andy Pages brought two more runners home with a single.
LA's lead didn't last long, though, as the Red Sox hit back-to-back home runs to start the third inning, regaining the lead. Yoshida struck again shortly after, hitting a home run of his own to make the score 5-3. Sheehan got one more out after Yoshida's home run before exiting the game.

Ollie Cooper is set to leave Swansea City with the Wales midfielder expected to join a League One club on a season-long loan.
Swans head coach Vitor Matos revealed that an agreement is in place with a club to sign Cooper, though the deal is not yet finalised.
The 26-year-old academy product has played 118 first-team games for Swansea and scored nine goals.
But he made only one substitute appearance under Matos in 2025-26 after a season-long loan at Wigan Athletic was cut short in January.
Cooper was allowed to leave last September having struggled for game time under former boss Alan Sheehan but managed only 13 appearances for Wigan.

Los Angeles is close to acquiring Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal in exchange for right-hander Emmet Sheehan, Double-A outfielder Zyhir Hope and Class-A right-hander Brady Smith, according to a source who spoke with The Athletic.
The deal had not yet been officially announced, meaning the return could still change or negotiations could encounter a late obstacle. If completed as reported, however, the Dodgers would add a two-time reigning American League Cy Young Award winner to an already star-studded roster.
Skubal has gone 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 116 strikeouts over 96.2 innings this season. The 29-year-old left-hander has allowed only 74 hits and 14 walks across 16 starts.
He was particularly dominant in his final two July outings, recording 18 strikeouts and allowing four earned runs over 14 innings against the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles.

Fielding miscues plagued the Dodgers this week, as nine errors in the last five games is no way to make a living. Two errors cropped up Sunday. Andy Pages dropped a fly ball during the two-run fifth inning, then Max Muncy's throw home hit a smartly-positioned Geraldo Perdomo, facilitating the two-run sixth inning that gave the Diamondbacks the lead for good.
That spoiled a promising start by Emmet Sheehan, who struck out seven against only one walk in 5 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs but only one of them were earned.

The 26-year-old Alfonzo batted ninth and caught Emmet Sheehan in the Dodgers' home game against the San Diego Padres.
Alfonzo’s 16-year-old sister, Eliana, and his stepmother, Patricia, have been missing since multiple earthquakes hit his homeland on June 24. Several Latin American media outlets reported Sunday that their bodies had been found in the wreckage of the hotel in La Guaira where they were staying, but the Dodgers announced no confirmation of the reports.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he hadn't yet spoken to Alfonzo about two hours before the first pitch at Dodger Stadium.
“Don't really know what to say about it, outside of my heart goes out to him and his family,” Roberts said. “So he is in there. After a failed bunt attempt from Robinson, King went on to walk Ohtani and load the bases after plunking Andy Pages.

Sheehan walked Song for the second time before plunking Fernando Tatis Jr. with two strikes on him and two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Samad Taylor representing the potential tying run, Sheehan struck him out for the third time to get out of the jam.

The Los Angeles Dodgers shuffled around their lineup for the final game of a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
The Dodgers won the first game of the series with a walk-off from Dalton Rushing, but fell in the second game of the series after a rough offensive display. They’ll look to take the series Sunday and become the first team to reach 50 wins this season.
Emmet Sheehan will make his 13th start of the season for the Dodgers, and will hope to improve on what has been a rough month. Sheehan has lost all three of his starts in June, though they aren’t exactly his fault. He has had a noticeable lack of run support in two of those three starts, and has held his opponents to three or less runs in all three outings.
He has a season ERA of 4.76 this season, and has struck out 72 batters in 64.1 innings pitched.
Shohei Ohtani will lead off for the Dodgers, and is playing his second game since returning from paternity leave Saturday. Center fielder Andy Pages has made a home for himself at the No. 2 spot in the order, and first baseman Freddie Freeman follows him.

LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers entered Sunday afternoon with a chance to complete a season sweep of the Angels.
Instead, they walked away from Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium with one of their ugliest losses of the season, a 13-5 defeat in front of 49,535 fans that left plenty of questions surrounding Dave Roberts’ early decision-making.
The defining moment came in the second inning.
With Emmet Sheehan laboring through a stressful inning and already at 35 pitches in the inning, Roberts emerged from the dugout and removed his starter after just 1⅓ innings. Sheehan's final line wasn't pretty, three hits, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts on 49 pitches. But the move ultimately opened the floodgates for an Angels offense that battered six Dodgers relievers the rest of the afternoon.
"I thought the stuff was good coming in, I really did," Roberts said. "I think that obviously you look at the Madrigal at-bat and I think it was 14-15 pitches. After the first inning, I just didn't feel comfortable getting him past the 40-pitch mark in one inning. In the second inning he had one out and here comes Neto, here comes Trout. I just felt right there that I was not gonna put this guy in harm's way with stress."

At the beginning of this series, Mark Grace remarked that the Diamondbacks needed to take advantage of the starting pitching matchups in the first two games because – on paper at least – they favored the D-Backs. The first game featured a resurgent Eduardo Rodriguez against youngster Emmet Sheehan while the second one pitted the reinvented Michael Soroka against journeyman Eric Lauer. Grace's recommendation was certainly heeded in the first game when Rodriguez went six innings and allowed just one run, but Soroka wasn't quite able to take the baton the next night even if he ended stronger than he started. Frustratingly, the script flipped on starting pitching beginning with Shohei Ohtani and his otherworldly 0.82 ERA going tonight while Justin Wrobleski and his excellent 2.87 ERA will round out the series. As expected, the D-Backs ran headlong into the buzzsaw that Ohtani has been on the ***** p this season while Zac Gallen labored through just five innings and gave up five runs. There were essentially no highlights for the D-Backs tonight, just lowlights. Seriously, if you're a Diamondbacks' fan, go read a book or talk to a friend instead.
The vibes for the night started off poorly with Ketel Marte being scratched from the lineup late with "full body fatigue" that was later clarified to be more focused on his hamstring as Torey Lovullo explained that he would prefer to give him a day off today than push him through the pain. They did not improve through the night. After a scoreless first, Mookie Betts leadoff the second inning by reaching on a slightly off-target throw from Geraldo Perdomo that was immediately cashed in on a mammoth home run from Kyle Tucker off a flat Gallen fastball that sat middle-middle. The third also started with a pair of leadoff base runners with a walk to Ohtani, a double from Andy Pages, and a two-run single from Freddie Freeman. Max Muncy would add another run on a single that somehow eluded Gallen and Perdomo to reach the outfield and allow Freeman to motor around for a fifth LA run. Brandon Pfaadt came into the game in relief and failed to provide much confidence in his role moving forward. After collecting a couple quick outs, he loaded the bases on a Muncy double, a Will Smith walk, and an Alex Call hit by pitch that was again quickly cashed in by an Alex Freeland single up the middle that once again eluded the infield defenders.
Meanwhile, the Ohtani show was in full effect tonight. He extended his no-hit streak another 3.2 IP until Gabriel Moreno broke up his no-hitter with a two-out double in the fourth – one of just two hits and three baserunners the ***** anese ace allowed over six innings of work. The D-Backs would muster just two more baserunners for the remainder of the game with a two-out walk to Jose Fernandez and a fielding error on a ball Moreno put into play on the left side of the infield. They did little to generate any baserunners and continued to struggle to find any kind of offensive rhythm aft

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost the first game of a four-game road series in a pitchers’ duel against the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-1.
Emmet Sheehan started the game for the Dodgers, and threw 6.1 innings in the outing. Sheehan only allowed three hits on the night, but two of them found their way over the fence and he earned a loss for the outing. He also struck out three batters on the night.
The Dodgers had the first big chance of the game in the second inning, when they had runners on first and second with just no outs in the middle of the order. They loaded the bases with two outs later in the inning through a Miguel Rojas infield single, but Alex Call couldn’t knock them in.
They came through the following inning, though, as Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages hit consecutive doubles to start the inning. Ohtani didn’t score on Pages’ double, though, so Freddie Freeman scored him with a groundout.
The game went quiet for the next several innings, with the Dodgers managing a baserunner here and there but leaving them stranded. The Diamondbacks took advantage of the Dodgers’ inability to convert, as Tommy Troy hit a solo shot to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth.
