BECKER, MN — Entering the fourth quarter with a slim lead on Sept. 3, Becker took a commanding nine-point advantage with 7:48 left on the clock. In an outing that had been far from perfect, the Bulldogs could taste victory up two scores in the waning minutes of the game.
Then Orono senior quarterback Finn Dyvik found senior receiver Owen Paulson along the sideline for a 68-yard pitch-and-catch to score the first of 23 fourth quarter points for the Spartans to suck the out of Dwight Lundeen Stadium and escape with a win.
While it may not have been the storybook beginning to Becker's head coach Dwight Lundeen farewell tour after 57 seasons, the two most recent 4A champions did not disappoint as Orono bested Becker 35-28 thanks to its big fourth quarter effort.
Becker got the scoring started in the first half with a 14-0 lead heading into the locker room behind two first-half interceptions and a 40-yard touchdown reception from senior RJ Houle.
The reigning champs stayed calm, though. Coming out in the second half and scoring two unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter, including a second interception by Becker's senior quarterback Tristan Kowalkowski.

The monster tackle, the unstoppable dash, the curler into the corner: at FC Bayern there are and have been many players with unique abilities, who give us unforgettable moments. Such as Samuel Kuffour, who particularly shone against international stars. The Ghanaian defender made 277 competitive appearances for the German record champions from 1993 to 2005 and won 17 trophies with the club. Today, 3 September, he celebrates his 50th birthday – we wish him all the best.
Effenberg's strength of nerve to make it 1-1, Kahn's epic saves in the penalty shootout – those scenes from our Champions League triumph against Valencia will be remembered forever by many fans. Samuel Kuffour's contribution to the fourth Champions League ***** le might be less prominent. The Ghanaian centre-back didn't provide an iconic moment at the San Siro on 23 May 2001, but his whole performance over the 120 minutes in the Bayern back three is legendary. Like in all the previous knockout matches, he's on the pitch the whole time and intercepts one attack after the other. He closes the opponents down, throws himself into tackles and aerial duels and cuts out countless ***** . Having nullified Manchester United's Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole in the quarter-finals, and Raúl and Guti of Real Madrid in the semis, now it's John Carew's turn. The burly, 1.96-metre number nine iss barely in the game in the final. For someone of his relatively modest height of 1.78 metres, "Sammy" looks shoulders above. How does he manage to hold his own so well against the stars of his day? What characterises his defending?
Kuffour never shirks a tackle. He seeks them out, defends proactively on the front foot and puts his body on the line in a way that's rarely been seen in FCB history. Even in training, he was no different. "I hated training against him," reveals Giovane Élber, who played with him at Bayern from 1997 to 2003. Of course, this style of play brings with it a certain risk – he holds the record for the most sending-offs in an FCB shirt (eight). But fans and bosses are happy to forgive him for that. "When someone clatters into players like Sammy, then he can also make mistakes," says Uli Hoeneß. Especially since he always manages to focus in the big games.
A key component of Kuffour's game is his impressive athleticism. He has tremendous acceleration and agility, which allow him to hold his own even against technically superior players. Added to this is his exceptional jumping ability, thanks to which he easily holds his own in the air against opponents like Carew. Unsurprisingly, this also allows him to pose a constant goalscoring threat in attack, especially at set pieces. Six of his ten goals for Bayern were scored with his head. However, this does not apply to his most important goal – the winning goal in the Intercontinental Cup final against Boca Juniors in the 109th minute of extra time in November 2001. He scores that one with his right foot amid a scramble in the penalty area.

Following his first mini-camp with his new Lakers teammates, star point guard Luka Doncic is feeling good about the future. While there is still a lot of work ahead for his team, the vibes are overall positive heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
Even so, the Lakers may not be done changing and tweaking the roster. According to the latest intel, veteran big man Dwight Powell is the best choice remaining in free agency, and he's reportedly being considered as a final addition to the Purple and Gold.
"The most significant option for the Lakers could be Dwight Powell, the 6-10, 35-year-old big man who was teammates with Doncic for 6 ½ seasons in Dallas," wrote Khobi Price. "Notably, Powell has played the most games as a teammate alongside Doncic (389) among the 98 players Doncic has played alongside in his eight-year NBA career."
The Lakers have been considering another move for a while now, but they don't have many **** ets to spare. That's why, at this point, the free agent market is the best place where they can find their ideal role player on a minimum salary.
With 16 total players on the roster, the Lakers would need to make room to add Powell, but there are several ways they could do it without breaking up their current core. One option is to straight up release players like Dalton Knecht or Bronny James. Alternatively, they could trade for someone like Jaden Hardy and/or Jake LaRavia in exchange for picks. The question is, is Powell the right man to pursue?

The Charlotte Hornets may have a new but familiar look during the 2026-27 season. Although it has yet to be confirmed, reports suggest that the Hornets will bring back their city edition jerseys from the 2017-18 campaign. Of all Charlotte's city edition jerseys throughout the years, these were fan favorites. The jersey is black and worn with black shorts but has the iconic purple and teal colors down the side with the words "Buzz City" above the jersey number.
Of all players in team history to wear the jersey, fans won't forget about Kemba Walker, who made an All-Star appearance for Charlotte that season. During the 2017-18 campaign, Walker averaged 22.1 points, 5.6 **** ists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals. Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Dwight Howard is another notable player to sport the city edition jersey, as his lone season with Charlotte came that year. In 81 games for the Hornets, Howard averaged 16.6 points, 12.5 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 0.6 steals.

The Vikings roster is a living, breathing organism. As a result, we're considering a dynamic being that's going to be undergoing change.
In fact, we're on the eve of major change. The NFL's deadline for teams to drop from 90-man offseason rosters to the 53-man maximum is tomorrow evening. Since the news is arriving quick, keep swinging by VT's tracker to ensure you don't miss any updates.

At least some notable news has already emerged. Perhaps the best-known players to have been shown the door so far has been the decision to say goodbye to DT Taki Taimani and CB Dwight McGlothern.

On Dec. 14, 2025, McCarthy continued his first season as Minnesota's starting quarterback while facing another playoff contender on the road. The young passer remained one of the franchise's most closely watched players. Mandatory Credit: Raymond Carlin III-Imagn Images.

Crystal Palace travel to Everton for their first match of the campaign as new boss Pierre Sage hopes to begin his tenure with three points in their Premier League opener.
The Frenchman has seen his side endure mixed fortunes in preseason and the main talking point of today's match comes in the form of two attacking players; Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil.
Palace's former record £35m signing Johnson swapped Selhurst Park for Merseyside in the summer after just six months at the club that saw McNeil move in the other direction and both will hope to prove a point in the first game of the season.
The Toffees have won their previous two meetings against the Eagles at home 2-1.

Everton begin their 125th top flight season and the second at their new Merseyside home against last year's Europa Conference League champions Crystal Palace.
The Toffees go into the game cautiously optimistic after some bright moments in pre-season. Their remains frustration however at a failure to address key issues in the transfer marker and the uncertainty over the future of David Moyes as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract.
The late season collapse is also fresh in people's minds, with the opportunity of European football thrown away thanks to a winless seven-game run to close out the season.
New signings include last season's Championship Player of the Year Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough, an energetic number eight who can hopefully add some incisiveness even from the deeper midfield position he's been deployed at so far. Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl turned their loan stints into permanent deals. Christian Norgaard looks to be a savvy signing from ****** nal to replace Idrissa Gueye, while Brennan Johnson adds pace and dynamism following his Dwight McNeil swap deal with Saturday's opponents Palace.
The yawning hole in the squad though remains right-back, a position Everton have failed to adequately address for years. That failure had hung over the Toffees' summer and the overall mood of the fans at the end of the window will like rest on whether they address it.

Crystal Palace have agreed a deal to sign Chelsea defender Axel Disasi on loan without an option to buy, according to Fabrice Hawkins.
The Eagles desperately needed reinforcement at the back following the sale of Maxence Lacroix to the Blues. He was a priority target.
Palace have now turned to the Frenchman to anchor the defence alongside Chris Richards and Jaydee Canvot. Talks are ongoing with the player and his representatives.
A dry loan also gives the South London club the flexibility to sign Raphael Le Guen, a young defender they have been chasing for weeks.
Disasi could be Palace's sixth summer signing after Dwight McNeil, Anan Khalaili, Zavier Gozo, Oscar Mingueza, and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The 2012-13 season was supposed to be a return to glory for the Los Angeles Lakers. During the summer of 2012, they had traded for Hall of Famers Steve Nash and Dwight Howard in the hopes that both men would give Kobe Bryant the support he needed to win yet another NBA championship while he was still an elite player.
Things didn't exactly go as planned. Nash, one of the best, if not the best, point guards of his era, suffered a fracture in his left leg in just his second game with the team and missed almost seven weeks as a result. The Lakers started the season 1-4, causing then-coach Mike Brown to be fired, and when the team reached out to Phil Jackson about returning as coach, it looked like things would soon be OK.
But instead, Los Angeles hired Mike D'Antoni, the coach of the mid-2000s Phoenix Suns during the "Seven Seconds or Less" era. In a recent interview with ESPN, he admitted that he took the job because of Nash's presence on the team.
"One of the reasons why I took the Laker job -- the biggest reason, other than I wanted to coach -- was that Steve was going to be there," D'Antoni said. "So I'm thinking that if Steve and I can get this and put this together, we could be really good. And I remember asking them before I signed, 'I know Steve's hurt, when's he coming back?'
"And they go, 'Well, he'll be back by Friday. And if we can get you to sign and you get in here, he'll be almost ready to go right when you get here.' That kind of pushed me over the hill.

HAVANA, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Gasoline at $38 a gallon sold from cramped apartments. Diesel hawked on Instagram by a celebrity model to a reggaeton soundtrack. Six decades after Fidel Castro's revolution, all of a sudden, capitalist cracks are appearing in Cuba's communist energy sector.
Under Washington's crippling oil embargo against Cuba, an exception that allows U.S. firms to export fuel to private Cuban businesses has kickstarted a chaotic black market and pried the lid off an energy sector tightly controlled by the state ever since Dwight Eisenhower was in the White House.
Oil shipments from Cuba's traditional suppliers Venezuela and Mexico ended abruptly after the U.S. ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in January. U.S. Coast Guard cutters patrol the waters off Cuba, while sanctions and threats have dissuaded tankers from even setting sail.
The embargo has hobbled essential state-run services like the healthcare system, public transport and schools. But under the Commerce Department exception, a trickle of gasoline and diesel is reaching private restaurants, retailers and taxis, the first significant landings of U.S. fuel on the Caribbean island since Castro nationalized refineries after the 1959 revolution.

Crystal Palace co-owner and chairman Steve Parish contacted Dwight McNeil's partner before the midfielder's move to the club on Tuesday.
McNeil has completed a move to Palace and signed a four-year contract in a swap deal that involved Brennan Johnson moving to Everton.
McNeil, 26, nearly moved to Selhurst Park in the January transfer window when Palace agreed a loan-to-buy deal.
That deal would have turned into a £20m permanent move, only for the transfer to fall through when the required paperwork could not be completed in time, even though McNeil had already passed a medical.
After the deal fell through, McNeil's partner Megan Sharpley was critical of Palace, writing on Instagram: "We live in a world where everyone is aware of how big a problem mental health is.

Everton have confirmed the signing of Wales winger Brennan Johnson from Crystal Palace, with Dwight McNeil heading the other way in a rare swap deal.
The 25-year-old has signed a four-year deal and becomes the fifth permanent arrival of the summer after Merlin Rohl, Hayden Hackney, Tyrique George and Christian Norgaard.
Speaking about his move, Johnson said:
"I'm so excited to be here. The club speaks for itself – it's a massive club and one that when I first heard of the interest, I immediately wanted to come and be part of it.
"There were a lot of reasons why I was so keen to join – the manager, the players, the direction the team is going in. You can see this is a club that wants to go in the right direction, and I'm a player who wants to go in that direction, too, so it feels like a really good match."

Johnson has joined Everton on a four-year contract running until June 2030, becoming David Moyes' fifth summer signing. The 25-year-old Wales international arrives after a difficult spell at Palace, where he failed to score in 26 appearances following his £35m move from Tottenham in January.
Despite that disappointment, Johnson boasts plenty of pedigree. He made his name at Nottingham Forest before joining Spurs for more than £45m and scored the winning goal in the 2025 Europa League final against Manchester United.
McNeil, meanwhile, has signed a four-year deal with Palace. The 26-year-old winger leaves Everton after three seasons, having registered 15 goals and 19 ***** ists in 128 appearances for the Toffees.
The move represents a second chance at Palace for McNeil, who came close to joining the Eagles in February. A proposed loan-to-buy deal worth £20m collapsed after the paperwork was not completed in time, despite the player having already passed his medical.

Everton have confirmed the signing of Brennan Johnson from Crystal Palace, in a swap deal that sees Dwight McNeil move to Selhurst Park.
Wales international Johnson has signed a four-year deal with the Toffees until 2030, and becomes the fifth summer signing for David Moyes this summer.
After completing his switch to Everton, Johnson, who will wear the No.22 shirt, told Everton TV: "I'm so excited to be here. The club speaks for itself – it's a massive club and one that when I first heard of the interest, I immediately wanted to come and be part of it.
"There were a lot of reasons why I was so keen to join – the manager, the players, the direction the team is going in. You can see this is a club that wants to go in the right direction, and I'm a player who wants to go in that direction, too, so it feels like a really good match.
"I want to come in and show what I can do. The manager spoke to me about getting back to the form that I've shown previously, and that's a massive thing for me – the fact he knows and believes in what I can do. For me, listening to him – a manager who is so experienced and someone who has been so successful – it was really nice to hear.

Everton and Crystal Palace have completed their swap deal for wingers Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil.
Wales international Johnson leaves Selhurst Park just seven months after joining for a club record of £35m.
McNeil joins Palace six months after his £20m move to the London club broke down at the end of the January transfer window.
All swap transfers have to pass the Premier League's fair market value checks, following a spate of PSR-related deals during the 2024 window.
Johnson has won European trophies in his last two seasons, scoring the goal that earned Tottenham the Europa League in 2025 but failed to find the net in 26 appearances for Palace.

Everton and Crystal Palace have completed the swap deal involving Dwight McNeil and Brennan Johnson.
The Toffees have confirmed 25-year-old Johnson has signed a four-year contract while McNeil will move in the opposite direction to Selhurst Park.
McNeil, 26, almost joined Palace in February, when the Eagles agreed a loan-to-buy deal that would have turned into a £20m permanent move this summer.
However, the transfer fell through despite McNeil having passed a medical because the required paperwork could not be completed in time.
It prompted his partner Megan Sharpley to accuse the Eagles of toying with his mental health via a social media post.

Everton and Crystal Palace are in talks about a swap deal that would see Toffees' winger Dwight McNeil join the Eagles and Wales international Brennan Johnson move in the opposite direction.
Both clubs are hoping to conclude the deal this week.
McNeil, 26, nearly moved to Selhurst Park at the start of February when Palace agreed a loan-to-buy deal, which would have turned into a £20m permanent move this summer.
However, the transfer fell through as the required paperwork could not be completed in time, even though McNeil had already passed a medical.
In a social media post, his partner Megan Sharpley had been critical of Palace, writing on Instagram: "We live in a world where everyone is aware of how big a problem mental health is.

Everton and Crystal Palace are in talks over a potential swap deal involving Dwight McNeil and Brennan Johnson, according to The Times. Everton manager David Moyes is open to letting McNeil leave the Hill **** inson Stadium club after a move to Selhurst Park fell through in January. The Eagles had agreed a loan deal with a £20 million obligation to buy for the Toffees winger, but talks collapsed late in the winter transfer deadline day. Palace remain keen on McNeil, and Everton want Johnson in return.
However, a potential switch is complicated due to both club's different valuation for both wingers. The club are yet to reach an agreement and it is unknown whether one is on the cards. Everton want attacking reinforcements and Johnson is a target due to Palace's interest in McNeil. The Wales international joined the Eagles from Tottenham Hotspur in a £35m deal in January. However, he struggled to impress upon the move, failing to score in 26 appearances. Johnson was an unused substitute in their Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano, but the Toffees admire what he brings to the table.

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was confronted about LeBron James' decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers on national TV.
Green played an active role in trying to recruit LeBron to the Warriors, with the pair being seen together in recent weeks. However, the recruiting efforts failed as LeBron went to Philly.
With Golden State's public pursuit of James collapsing, Green became the ******* of a joke on TNT Sports' Dunkman World Championships broadcast.
Green was joined by NBA legend Dwight Howard and influencer Cash Nasty on a panel hosted by Adam Lefkoe. Cash, a huge LeBron fan, directly addressed James' refusal to go to the Warriors to Draymond, prompting the 36-year-old forward to respond.
"How is that my loss? It would've been nice, but it's no different than what it's always been."

Georgia Bulldogs running back Dante Dowdell was hospitalized after he was in an ATV accident this offseason. Dowdell's recovery is expected to take a significant period of time after he suffered "some serious injuries" in the accident.
Dowdell had a promising spring and was expected to be one of Georgia's top running backs this fall. Dowdell started his college football career at Oregon, transferred to Nebraska and then transferred to Kentucky. Last season, he posted 560 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound running back was expected to take over Josh McCray's role at a minimum.
With Dowdell's status in doubt, let's take a look at the rest of Georgia's running back room. The Bulldogs return starting running back Nate Frazier along with Chauncey Bowens, who logged a few starts in 2025. Behind those two, Dwight Phillips and Bo Walker should see more action if Dowdell misses extended time.

One former Manchester United striker believes that Liverpool will be 'a threat' in what he expects to be a 'wide open' Premier League ******* le race in 2026/27.
The Reds began last season as champions and favourites for a repeat triumph, especially after a muscle-flexing summer spend of £446m, but a horrendous campaign saw us scrape a fifth-place finish and ultimately cost Arne Slot his job.

Andoni Iraola has since taken charge, with expectations understandably lowered from 12 months ago, but Dwight Yorke doesn't think that Kopites should be content to merely qualify for the Champions League.
Speaking to football betting specialists BOYLE Sports (via Liverpool Echo), the former Trinidad & Tobago international said: "Liverpool are a threat. If you spend £500m on new players, you're a threat. That's it. Otherwise, what's the point? You can't spend £500m to go backwards. That makes no sense.

This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with Pro Football Hall of Famer Dwight Freeney.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Freeney, who is participating in this weekend's American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe, currently airing on NBC and Peacock, shared his excitement for the tournament, his partnership with Performance Golf, and his mindset while collecting sacks during his playing career.
"I got hooked up with Performance Golf, and they have some great things going on from their standpoint. The app is called PG1, which uses A.I. to scan your swing and tell you exactly what your root flaw is," said Freeney. "So, going into this event, it's kind of like having them behind you, helping with that technology. A.I. is taking over now; I can put my phone behind me. It can ***** yze my swing, and tell me, without a coach, the A.I. is my coach, tells me, okay, this is what you're doing wrong, and then sends me a video on how to fix that problem, it's been a good journey, I think it's going to do good for me, and hopefully I can apply it the right way, you know, during the American Century Championship."
During his career against the Kansas City Chiefs, Freeney recorded 4 sacks and 17 combined tackles in multiple regular-season matchups. He recorded 125.5 career sacks over 16 years and said his favorite sack was the one that affected the immediate outcome of a close game.
"For me, it's the sacks that matter now; they all matter, but whenever you can close a game with a sack that is, I mean, there is no better feeling," said Freeney. "It's very comparable to basketball. You have the ball in your hands, the clock is running down three to one, you freaking let it go, and you win it for your team, kind of how you see all the time in the bracket NCAA basketball championship games; that's the feeling of what it is when you go out there. You get a sack on a quarterback when he's driving; they need to score a touchdown or a field goal. I sack him, I cause the fumble, and we recover the fumble, and we win."
