"The best examples were the occasions when Julian criticised players - he was criticised for doing so. When he tried to take the pressure and blame off the players, he was criticised for that as well. That's simply part of a coach's job. In the end, the results are what count, and unfortunately, those were disappointing towards the end."

Head coach Sean McVay acknowledged those expectations at the start of training camp while noting that "there's a lot of stuff in the midst of the journey that we don't control." McVay wants the Rams to prioritize the things they do control when it comes to preparing for the season and quarterback Matthew Stafford was in a similar frame of mind when he spoke to reporters on Monday.
Stafford said he wants the team to focus on improving their baseline level of play rather than thinking about how high they can climb if everything falls into place.
"We can't help but make each other better, [but] pieces of paper and names on a roster, those don't win football games," Stafford said, via Greg Beacham of the ******* ociated Press. "Teams and players and groups do. . . . Sean said it the other night, we've got potentially a high ceiling, right? We've got great players that have done a lot in this league. There are a number of ways that a talented team can get thrown off track over the course of an NFL season. Former ******* nal star Takehiro Tomiyasu is currently training with Crystal Palace as he plots a Premier League return, according to The Athletic. The ******* anese left the Gunners in July 2025 after his contract was terminated by mutual agreement at the North London club. Tomiyasu was a key player for ******* nal manager Mikel Arteta whenever he was fit, making 84 appearances for the Emirates Stadium club during his four seasons at the club. The Palace target joined Ajax last December on a six-month deal, leaving at the end of last season.

After sitting out practice on Monday, the Rams' second session of training camp, Young told reporters that he's still nursing a knee injury that's bothered him "for years." Young says he's "feeling real good," but he spent his offseason managing his knee with the Rams' training staff.
"It's been good," Young said of his offseason. "I've just been nursing up my knee. That was a process. They've got a good plan for me in place."
Young was asked about the recovery plan for his knee, and he says he and the Rams are going to take it "day by day." He practiced on Sunday and then sat out Monday's practice, but he plans to be back on the field "in a couple of days."

Chennai: As India look to usher in a new generation of fast bowlers, Australian great Glenn McGrath believes Prasidh Krishna has all the ingredients to become Jasprit ****** rah's long-term pace partner.

The legendary fast bowler, who is the director of coaching at the MRF Pace Foundation, has closely followed Prasidh's rise and feels the tall Karnataka seamer has transformed his potential into performances.

"I'm a big fan of Prasidh," McGrath said. "If he gets his length right, he's got everything going for him."

"He has really matured. He's tall, bowls in good areas, generates bounce and has genuine pace. Occasionally he's a little short, but apart from that, I think he's the whole package. He's really developed and put his potential into performance," he said.

India have handed opportunities to several young quicks during the recent tours of the UK and Zimbabwe as they prepare for a demanding cycle of white-ball cricket, with the ODI and T20 World Cups to be played in South Africa and Australia-New Zealand respectively. It means India will need a strong pace attack firing on all cylinders, and McGrath believes the transition phase they are going through will not be easy.

"You've got ****** rah, who's a class bowler, and Mohammed Shami, who's world-class as well. Mohammed Siraj has been around for a long time too. You can't just expect to pick up straight where you left off. It's always going to be a transitional period," he said, referring to the Australian team, which will also go through a similar phase.

"Other than Pat ****** mins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, hardly anybody gets a chance... So it's not going to be easy for Australia either."

McGrath also pointed out that ****** rah's unconventional action demands careful workload management.

"The way he powers through those last few steps probably puts more stress on his body than most bowlers. It'll be interesting to see how he manages himself," McGrath said.

While India appear keen to fast-track younger bowlers, McGrath insisted experienced pacers still have an important role to play.

"It's always good to have experience there. Young bowlers learn by playing alongside senior guys. I was fortunate to watch Craig McDermott and Merv Hughes. That's where you really learn. I'd always pick an experienced team over a potential team," he said.

On whether veterans such as Shami or Bhuvneshwar ****** ar could still mount a comeback, McGrath said the decision rested on their bodies, motivation and the selectors.

"If they're prepared to put the work in and their body allows it, then why not? As fast bowlers get older, the work only gets tougher. Ultimately, it's up to them and the selectors."

New USL Championship side Atlético Dallas, who will join the league for 2027 season, has announced its first signing: Chicharito Hernández, the Mexican legend and former Manchester United striker.
Chicharito had said farewell to Chivas at the end of last year and had not made it clear whether he would continue playing. The chance to be a key figure in a new project in the US convinced the player to move to Dallas.
"I've been fortunate to live the dreams that every young footballer hopes to experience," Hernández said about joining the new team.

The 10-12 Maryland Little League Baseball State Championship was held last week in Hagerstown, Maryland, as teams from across Maryland competed for the state ***** le and a spot at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals. But only one team could walk away with that honor, and that team would be the Berlin Little League team.
After winning the District 8 Championship over local rivals, Berlin Little League arrived at the Maryland State Championship Tournament as one of seven teams hoping to take one step closer towards an appearance at the Little League World Series. And they did just that, as they brought the state championship back to Berlin.
It all culminated in their 6-2 victory over South Baltimore in the ***** le game, which capped off their unbeaten run to the ***** le. According to The Herald Mail, Berlin's Jonah Isett struck out five in 4⅔ innings, only allowing two runs and two hits to help lead Berlin to victory. It's no secret how badly Bayern Munich wanted to sign Nick Woltemade, but there was a ceiling to what they were willing to pay in order to get him. Apparently, that ceiling was offensive to VfB Stuttgart chairman Alexander Wehrle.
According to a report from Goal, Wehrle took a "swipe" at Bayern Munich during the club's annual general meeting, addressing both transfer negotiations and fan support.
Speaking to club members, Wehrle revisited the high-profile transfer saga involving the striker. Despite rumors that Woltemade had previously settled on personal terms with the Bavarian giants, Bayern's valuation peaked at €60 million, considerably less than the selling price. Stuttgart held firm on their evaluation of at least €75 million for the attacker before eventually reaching an agreement with Newcastle United, who met, and exceeded, their asking price. Wehrle dismissed any notion that Stuttgart was acting out of spite towards Bayern, explaining that the financial proposal from Munich amounted to little more than "a ****** er pretzel."

Wasn't it 35 years ago when the Red-Hot Chili Peppers sang "Give it away, Give it away now?" That's exactly what the Angels did on this night. They gave it away; fortunately for Houston. Astros 6. Angels 4.
In the ninth inning, the Astros would do it by a matter of inches. First, Isaac Paredes would be slightly grazed by a pitch with the bases loaded which would tie things up. Moments later LaMonte Wade Jr., by the narrowest of margins, would draw a walk which gave Houston their first lead of the night. A fielding error by Angels reliever Sam Bachman would allow Yordan Alvarez to score an insurance run and that would be your final. It was an improbable comeback, just like Friday night in Chicago.
Even with the jubilation of the end result, much of the night was painted by a sad commentary. The Astros were fortunate to only be down by two runs at the end of the first inning. That was the boat the Astros found themselves in, which actually seemed like more like a sinking ship. The culprit once again was Tatsuya Imai, who allowed four walks and received the quick hook from Manager Joe Espada after tossing just 33 pitches. The issue was 21 of those pitches were ****** , which resulted in a disastrous start from Anaheim.
Upon Imai's departure, AJ Blubaugh would get Angels 3B Denzer Guzman to fly out to end the first frame, stranding three Angels runners. In the fourth inning, Taylor Trammell would notch his fifth home run of the year on a two out blast to get the Astros on the board. In the bottom of the fourth, Christian Javier (W, 1-1) would enter in relief. Javier would go five innings, striking out seven while scattering three hits. Tottenham midfielder James Maddison on Tuesday praised Roberto De Zerbi as the type of attacking coach that suited his game and said he was "excited" by what lay ahead.
Italy's De Zerbi took over from sacked interim boss Igor Tudor in March when Tottenham were winless in the Premier League in 2026.
He steered them to 17th place and survival with a tense 1-0 win over Everton on the last day of the season and has begun building a new squad with an aggressive summer of spending.
England international Maddison, who missed the majority of last season with a serious knee injury, said in Sydney he was pumped up for the next chapter.

Zac Thornton continued his excellent start to his career with the Mets on Monday night against the Atlanta Braves, allowing three earned runs in 6.1 innings of an eventual 14-3 win for New York.
The left-hander is now 2-1 with a 2.43 ERA (0.91 WHIP) in five starts and 29.2 innings pitched this season, and although he's a top pitching prospect in the Mets organization and just 24 years old, Thornton's repertoire doesn't include the typical blistering fastball and wicked secondary pitch that most young pitching prospects have.
Instead, Thornton relies mostly on a cutter that averages around 87 mph and his two-seam fastball that sits between 89-92 mph while mixing in a variety of other pitches, none of which get above 94 mph on a consistent basis.
Interim manager Andy Green admitted that it's not "the traditional way" that most front-line starters attack hitters in this day and age of high velocity and spin rate, but the results so far speak for themselves.
"It's good stuff," Green said about Thornton's ******* ortment of pitches. "We live in a world where we don't define stuff as good unless it's 95+ anymore and that's unfortunate because the cutter really is tough for righties to see and react to and the more you have to think about pitches coming in on your hands, the more you're gonna pull off of everything else that works away from you.

Former women's basketball coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton says she has reached a settlement with the University of Virginia after her sudden firing on April 5, a week after leading the Cavaliers to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000.
Details of the settlement were not made public. Agugua-Hamilton shared a statement about it on her Instagram account after the ****** ociated Press published a story about the settlement.
Agugua-Hamilton and her representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A spokesperson for Virginia declined to comment.
USA TODAY Sports previously reported that Agugua-Hamilton — widely known in and outside the program as "Coach Mox" — had been the subject of an internal investigation and there were allegations of staff mistreatment within the program, according to four people with knowledge of the situation.
According to a copy of Agugua-Hamilton's contract obtained by USA TODAY Sports, Virginia owed her a sizable buyout if she was terminated without cause. The contract stipulates that Virginia would have to pay her the remaining amount of her base salary, 80% of supplemental compensation, 80% of royalties and any bonuses earned, but not yet received. According to the figures outlined in her contract — which ran through the 2027-28 season — Agugua-Hamilton would have been owed about $1.3 million.

The Yankees overcame Max Fried's season-low-tying start of three innings with four-run frames in the fourth and eighth to take Monday's series-opening game at the American League East-leading Chicago White Sox, a 9-4 win, rebounding from Sunday's 11-4 loss at the Philadelphia Phillies.
Fried's second start back from injury mirrored his season-worst outing May 13 at the Baltimore Orioles, a 7-0 loss, in which he allowed three runs on five hits in three innings. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was chief among New York's reinforcements, tying the game with a two-run double in the fourth inning that scored Paul Goldschmidt and Jasson Domínguez. Chisholm subsequently stole third base and scored when Spencer Jones grounded out to second with one out. When the Yankees led the White Sox (55-50) by a run in the eight inning, Chisholm's RBI single to score Domínguez padded the 6-4 lead and eventually break the game open. Chisholm's 2-for-4, two-RBI effort from the sixth spot in the order was the type of performance that New York needed to avoid a series-opening dud as he brought his slash line to .226/.299/.414 with 45 RBI and 29 steals through 99 games this season.
Between Chisholm's highlights, Ben Rice's go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning with two outs to score Amed Rosario gave the Yankees the much-needed push after the White Sox tied the game at 4-4 with one out in the fifth. Rice, whose 2-for-4 evening included a leadoff walk that sparked New York's fourth inning, need to be the guy in this lineup without Aaron Judge and met the moment as the second-batting designated hitter Monday. With Cody Bellinger out for the next month and change due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, Max Schuemann's second start in left field saw him also lead off but underwhelm. Schuemann's two-game glimpse is an 0-for-7 sample size after Monday's 0-for-5 result out of the No. 1 spot in the order, which only adds to questions for Aaron Boone and the Yankees with the MLB trade deadline around the corner.

Seven games behind the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers, the Chicago Cubs have comfortably secured a postseason spot. With a 59-46 record, they hold the top NL Wild Card position, despite navigating an injury-plagued starting rotation. Even so, the Cubs have shown they are unwilling to tolerate underperformance and inconsistency, and their latest decision to part ways with their $68 million right-hander is proof of that. Following the move, manager Craig Counsell explained the reasoning behind the decision.
"Essentially, we just had to make a hard decision as to whether we thought Jameson was going to pitch again," Counsell told Marquee Sports Network, as posted on X after the Cubs DFA'd Jameson Taillon. "And with where we're at in the season and with what's going on in his season, we just didn't feel like it was going to happen again. So those are hard decisions."
Jameson Taillon's inconsistency has been a liability for the Cubs' already struggling rotation. So, following a disastrous outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, the Cubs designated him for **** ignment the next day, ahead of their game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Taillon surrendered 7 earned runs on 6 hits across 4.0 innings during Chicago's 8-7 loss to the Pirates. The loss spiked his ERA to 5.92 across 15 starts as he gave up three home runs and two walks during his outing. The Seattle Seahawks are set to move on from one of their running backs.
ESPN's Brady Henderson reported on Monday that the Seahawks are planning to waive fourth-year back Kenny McIntosh, who is currently on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after suffering a torn ACL last training camp.
The Seahawks confirmed Henderson's report shortly thereafter. McIntosh was not immediately replaced, so the Seahawks will enter Tuesday with an open roster spot.
It's an unfortunate situation for the national champion from Georgia, who injured his knee during 2023 training camp and barely played as a rookie. In 2024, McIntosh played in every game but predominantly on special teams. When he did get involved in the offense, rushed for 172 yards on 31 carries and caught three passes for 22 yards in limited playing time. He also was part of Seattle's kick return rotation.
With the Seahawks drafting Jadarian Price in the first round and signing Emanuel Wilson in free agency, it was always going to be difficult for McIntosh to make the roster this season. George Holani, who lost out to McIntosh for a roster spot in 2024, was able to secure a spot after McIntosh's injury and has the inside track to have an increased role in the offense. Factor in the eventual return of Zach Charbonnet from his own ACL tear, and there just wasn't much of a realistic path for McIntosh to make the 53-man roster.
