GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Michael Brennan made five straight birdies to pull away from Beau Hossler and close with a 6-under 64 to win the Wyndham Championship and reach the PGA Tour's lucrative postseason.
Brennan came into the final tournament of the regular season at No. 105 in the FedEx Cup. Now his season gets extended by at least one week after his second PGA Tour ***** le in two years. The FedEx Cup playoffs start Thursday with the FedEx St. Jude Championship at the TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. Only the top 70 players advance, and Brennan shot up to No. 47.
Jackson Koivun, who left Auburn in June and won the 3M Open in only his third start, narrowly hung on to the 70th spot and goes from college to the postseason in only two months.
Brennan made birdie on the final hole to finish at 22-under 258, matching the tournament record at Sedgefield shot three other times, most recently last year by Wake Forest grad Cameron Young.

Everton and Crystal Palace are in talks about a swap deal that would see Toffees' winger Dwight McNeil join the Eagles and Wales international Brennan Johnson move in the opposite direction.
Both clubs are hoping to conclude the deal this week.
McNeil, 26, nearly moved to Selhurst Park at the start of February when Palace agreed a loan-to-buy deal, which would have turned into a £20m permanent move this summer.
However, the transfer fell through as the required paperwork could not be completed in time, even though McNeil had already passed a medical.
In a social media post, his partner Megan Sharpley had been critical of Palace, writing on Instagram: "We live in a world where everyone is aware of how big a problem mental health is.

It took Carson Kvapil 64 races to earn his first NASCAR O'Reilly Series victory, but he has now won back-to-back after triumphing at Iowa Speedway.
JR Motorsports teammate Ross Chastain led most of the final run, but a caution with five laps to go completely changed the complexion of the race.
Chastain spun the tires in the first overtime restart, allowing Kvapil to move ahead. Right behind them, Brent Crews slid up into Ryan Sieg and Justin Allgaier, wrecking all three cars and collecting several others. That led to a post-race confrontation between Allgaier and Crews.
In double overtime, Kvapil once again got a better restart than Chastain, and Rajah Caruth actually moved up into second. They led a JR Motorsports 1-2 with William Sawalich third, Chastain sliding back to fourth, and Sheldon Creed fifth.

A week after Michael Brennan threatened to tie the Tour's record for most consecutive made birdies in a round, Sahith Theegala challenged — and eventually tied — the mark for most birdies to open a round by carding six consecutive circle to start his Wyndham Championship.
Theegala's attempt at the record seventh straight birdie came at the par-3 7th, where he bogeyed to fall back to 5 under through seven holes.
And all that drama came within an hour after Beau Hossler signed his first round 61 to become the clubhouse leader — the fifth such low score in three weeks.

Colorado Buffaloes and coach Deion Sanders opened fall camp on Monday with a long list of questions, but three players stand out above the rest when it comes to pressure. After a 3-9 season and a major roster reset, the Buffs need answers quickly, and these three are facing the biggest individual tests.
Lewis is the obvious headliner. The redshirt freshman is only 18, but he is now the face of Colorado and the player expected to drive Brennan Marion's offense. That is a heavy ask for any quarterback, much less one stepping into his first full season as the starter.
Colorado brought in Isaac Wilson to compete with him, but the job still is Lewis' to lose. He has to settle the offense quickly, get comfortable with Marion's Go-Go scheme and show he can handle a rebuilt line in front of him. If Colorado is going to get back on track, Lewis has to look the part from the start.

Detroit — Here's a snapshot look at Round 3 of the final Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club on Saturday.
On another ideal day for low scoring, many of the best golfers on the planet obliged, with Davis Riley, making birdies at Nos. 17 and 18, shooting a 7-under 63 to take a one-shot lead into Sunday's final round. Riley, 29, a Mississippian, was at 15 under, one shot better than Michael Brennan, who made bogey on 18 but still shot 64. Plenty of others were in hot pursuit, including 2023 Rocket Classic champ Rickie Fowler (67), Rasmus Hojgaard (61), Chris Kirk (66) and Cameron Young (68) at 12 under, and Xander Schauffele (67) among those at 11 under.
Kris Ventura had more than one to choose from Saturday, so we're giving him the leeway. The excitement began at the 339-yard, par-4 eighth hole, where he drove the green and made a 39-foot putt for an eagle-2. Then, at the par-5 14th, from the fringe, he drained 39-footer for an eagle-3 as he made a third-round charge toward getting in contention at the Rocket. In between those eagles, he also made double-bogey at the par-3 12th.

Players were in full attack mode at the short par-3 fifth hole all day, it seemed like there might actually be an ace there for a second consecutive day. In the fact, the guy that made that hole-in-one there Friday, Matt Kuchar, nearly went back-to-back. He hit it to 8 inches Saturday, for one of 17 birdies on the hole in Round 3.

Players were in full attack mode at the short par-3 fifth hole all day, it seemed like there might actually be an ace there for a second consecutive day. In the fact, the guy that made that hole-in-one there Friday, Matt Kuchar, nearly went back-to-back. He hit it to 8 inches Saturday, for one of 17 birdies on the hole in Round 3.

DENVER (AP) — Tomoyuki Sugano allowed a run over 6 2/3 innings to win for the seventh time in his last eight starts and the Colorado Rockies beat the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Friday night after a hailstorm delayed the start an hour.
Sugano (11-4) gave up five hits and matched his longest outing this season to help the Rockies end a four-game skid. Colorado is five days away from opening its 2026 fall camp as the Buffaloes begin preparations for Deion Sanders' fourth season at the helm. The Buffs had a solid offseason despite many changes, including two new coordinators and 40-plus transfers, most with proven production, albeit at a non-Power Four level.
One of those players is Sacramento State transfer wide receiver Ernest Campbell. The speedy wideout is one of Pro Football Focus' highest-graded returning Big 12 wide receivers. He comes in ranked as the fifth-best returner with an 85.9 overall grade.
Campbell is coming off a breakout season at Sacramento State after being named to the FCS Central Freshman All-American Team. He led the Hornets with 37 receptions for 755 yards and eight touchdowns. The most impressive stat from his 2025 season is his average of 20.41 yards per reception. Campbell's explosivity is by far his best trait, and he should be the big-play threat in Brennan Marion's Go-Go offense, which he knows well. He had touchdowns of 75, 63,60, 57 and 50 yards.
Campbell unsurprisingly has a track background, competing collegiately at Texas A&M as a true freshman in 2024. He recorded a 10.02 100m time at the NCAA West First Round meet and was an honorable mention All-American, placing 22nd at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
Colorado is used to having wide receivers with speed, with players like LaJohntay Wester and Jimmy Horn Jr. adding a different dynamic during the 9-4 2024 season. CU is hoping Campbell can be that element this year and that it will lead to a similarly strong season.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) on Sunday said President Trump likes the daily strikes on Iran, which paused going into the weekend after nearly two straight weeks of attacks on Iranian infrastructure.
"I think we ought to continue the blockade and starve them out. I think we ought to bomb Pickaxe Mountain and try to reach what's underneath it, " Kennedy told CBS News's Margaret Brennan during his appearance on "Face the Nation."
"The president likes the daily attacks," Kennedy added. "He believes that sometimes you have to kill a few chickens to scare the monkeys."
Kennedy compared Iran's leaders to American serial killer Son of Sam and cult leader Charles Manson, calling them "more than mildly insane." But he added that the U.S. should not "just cut and run."
"If we can stand the pain of the rising cost of energy, we need to stay the course," he said. "At least for a few more months. I also don't think we need to send in troops. That's my opinion, for what it's worth."

A Fort Worth Police officer ticketed a preacher in late June, claiming the content of his speech was offensive. This week the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division launched an inquiry into the incident to determine if the officer violated the First Amendment.
The widely circulated video of the confrontation shows an officer and a protester during the Trinity Pride Fest on June 27. "If someone is offended by your talking, then we have a problem," said Officer Sara Stogner.
"That's a constitutional violation of our rights," responds David Grisham, a street preacher and retired federal law enforcement officer. The two continue to argue when Stogner **** erts, "OK, then I'll write you the ticket, and we'll go from there."
"Wait, you're going to ticket us for offensive speech?" the cameraman asks incredulously. To which the officer confidently responds, "Yes, absolutely."
Stogner continues to claim she can ticket the two men for disorderly conduct "if someone complains that your language or what you're saying is offensive."
But that's not how the First Amendment works, according to legal experts. "The First Amendment does not allow government officials to shut down speech simply on account of it being 'offensive,'" said Brennan VanderVeen, program counsel at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression. "The government can restrict certain types of conduct or restrict noise above a certain volume level," he continued, but citing someone because people are offended by the content of protected speech is "precisely what the First Amendment does not allow."

The First Coast and Georgia's Golden Isles will be sending a sizable contingent of players to the 154th Open Championship, July 16-19 at Royal Birkdale, in Southport, England.
The group is led by three past champions: Jacksonville native David Duval (2001, Royal Lytham and St. Annes), Cameron Smith of Ponte Vedra Beach (2022, St. Andrews) and Brian Harman of St. Simons Island, Ga. (2023, Royal Liverpool).
