Gloucester chief executive officer Alex Brown says there are "talks ongoing" about new investment in the Prem club.
The Cherry and Whites' most recent set of accounts, for the year to June 2025, showed an increase in losses from £516,355 to £2.91m.
"There is interest in Gloucester Rugby but our shareholders and board are very sensitive to who that investment might be," Brown told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
"It has to be right for the club, for the future and we'll take every opportunity that comes but there are talks going on about further investment."
In May, Gloucester owner Martin St Quinton told the BBC there was "more appetite" to invest in Prem rugby now promotion and relegation had been formally scrapped for the 2026-27 season.

Economic issues have forced another franchisee of the nation's largest fast-food chain, Subway, to file for bankruptcy protection, as the restaurant sector continues to battle rising costs.
Subway Sandwich Shop franchisee Cherry ****** e Company, which operates three North Dakota locations, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to reorganize its businesses, according to BankruptcyObserver.
The Regent, N.D.-based Subway franchisee filed its Subchapter V petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of North Dakota on July 21, listing over $19,000 in ****** ets and over $1.8 million in debts, according to court documents.
The debtor did not give a reason for filing for bankruptcy in its petition. Debtor counsel Karl Johnson of MJB Law Firm PLLC was not immediately available for comment.
The debtor's largest unsecured creditors include the U.S. Small Business Administration, owed over $487,000; Dakota Western Bank, owed over $394,000, Grasshopper Bank, owed over $343,000; TVT Capital Source LLC, owed $240,000; Glenridge Capital LLC, owed over $130,000; and Byzfunder NY LLC, owed $128,000.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — NCAA Division II athletes would move immediately to the age-based eligibility model adopted in Division I under proposed emergency legislation announced Tuesday.
The Division II Management Council recommended the division's executive board adopt the model that would create a five-year period of eligibility, effective for the 2026-27 academic year. Under the proposal, an athlete's eligibility would begin upon initial full-time enrollment or the regular academic year immediately following the student-athlete's 19th birthday, whichever occurs earlier.
The model was approved in Division I last month and would replace the current Division II model giving athletes four seasons of competition to be completed within their first 10 semesters or 15 quarters of full-time enrollment.
"As we continue evaluating the future of Division II eligibility, our focus remains on creating legislation that is not only easy to understand but is also equitable and centered on the student-athlete experience," said Ben Cherry, faculty athletics representative at Cal State San Marcos and chair of the management council. "This age-based model simplifies the rules structure by providing clarity and consistency while continuing to support academic success and student-athlete well-being."
A series of lawsuits have been filed in state and federal courts since the Division I Council approved age-based eligibility June 23. Athletes who graduated from high school in 2022 and exhausted their four-year eligibility in the last academic year have argued they have been unfairly denied a fifth year of eligibility in 2026-27.

It’s done. Well, it’s been done for a while but now it’s official. Tottenham Hotspur formally announced the departure of defender Luka Vuskovic to Brighton & Hove Albion. Spurs will receive a guaranteed £48m in fees, and the contract includes a 20% sell-on whenever Brighton decide to sell Vuskovic in the future.
The move comes before the Croatian wunderkind even made an official first team appearance with Spurs. Tottenham agreed to purchasehe Vuskovic from his boyhood club Hajkuk Split when he was 15, but weren’t able to formally sign him until he turned 18. In the meantime, Vuskovic spent his time eternally on loan — first at Radomiak Radom in Poland, then a stint at Westerlo in Belgium before his impressive loan with Hamburg in the Bundesliga last season. That Hamburg season was amazing — he was named to the Bundesliga team of the season and by season’s end he had cemented his status as one of the most talented young players in Europe.
However, he still seemed seemingly stuck as a 4th or 5th choice CB at Tottenham Hotspur, and there were questions as to whether his skill set would transfer to Roberto De Zerbi’s new tactics at Spurs. Vuskovic is excellent in the air and positionally solid, but his speed is something of a concern in the fast-paced Premier League. Named to Croatia’s World Cup squad, Vuskovic and his agents started making noise this summer about wanting to leave the club, eventually leading to where we are now.
£50m+ for a 19-year-old defender who hasn’t played in the Premier League yet is very good money, and Tottenham made the decision to cash in on his potential rather than keep a potentially unhappy future star on the bench. Vuskovic clearly just wanted to play ball, and he’ll have a much better chance of getting regular playing time at Brighton (replacing Jan Paul van Hecke, now at Spurs) than if he stayed in north London. I would’ve wished for a buy-back clause in the deal, but getting 20% of any future sale is a nice cherry on top of the cake.
I wish I could’ve seen Luka play for us at least once, but that’s not to be. Tottenham made a business decision with Vuskovic, and considering the outlay they’ve already spent on transfers this summer, it’s not a dumb move from a business perspective. But we’ll always be wondering what might have happened if we had stuck to our guns.

Otto Lopez, 2B/SS, Marlins: He’s this year’s winner of the Geraldo Perdomo/Maikel Garcia Award, the most improved player in the league. Lopez has always had elite bat control, but this year he’s made technical improvements and ***** ped his quality of contact as well. Sure, the slash line is a little over his skis, but only slightly — the Statcast data suggests a .300 average and .464 slugging. And the cherry on the top of the sundae is the steals, with Lopez motoring for 30 or more this year. Lopez will justly get some down-ballot MVP love this year, an amazing turnaround for someone who was cut by the Blue Jays and Giants.
Freddie Freeman, 1B, Dodgers: I couldn’t view Freeman as a proactive pick in March, given that he was entering an age-36 season. But he continues to be remarkably consistent — note that his OPS+ is 141, 143 and 144 the last three years. Last year, Freeman slashed .295/.367/.502, this year it’s .293/.383/.502. Sometimes we have to consider different aging curves for future Hall of Famers.
Sal Stewart, 1B/2B/3B, Reds: He’s the runaway leader in challenges won among hitters, showcasing his elite eye. In line with that, Stewart has a modest strikeout rate and an excellent walk rate, while maintaining an exciting hard-hit profile. Stewart also checks the versatility box, stealing bases and covering three infield spots for Yahoo managers. Impressive stuff from someone in their age-22 season.

The Texas Longhorns have two main rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas A&M Aggies. The Arkansas Razorbacks are an old UT rival that has been renewed thanks to the Longhorns switch from the Big 12 to the SEC. Other in-state schools consider Texas their rivals. But one rivalry is growing and it could take over all the rest. LSU looms in the future.
The Tigers and the Longhorns have always kind of felt like rivals, even though they don't have a long history of playing. In over 100 years of football history at both schools, LSU and Texas have met only 18 times. But only two of those games have been since JFK was president. There was supposed to be a meeting in Baton Rouge in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic scrapped that game.
So why would LSU become one of Texas' biggest, if not the biggest, rival in college football? Three reasons: Recruiting, proximity and the coaches.
There once was a time when recruiting was easier. When Mack Brown coached Texas, his goal was the lockup most of the good players in the state of Texas and try for one or two national prospects. LSU similarly locked up Louisiana. That was enough to keep both programs viable for bigger rewards like conference and national championships.
But near the end of Brown's era, and into the Charlie Strong and Tom Herman tenures, the bigger programs around the nation began to raid the Lone Star State. Ohio State, USC and others began cherry picking the best talent out of Texas. As that happened, the Longhorns faltered.

Naomi Osaka had one of the biggest wins of her career at Wimbledon on Sunday, July 5.
She beat top-seeded and world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets in the round of 16. Osaka handled Sabalenka 6-2 in the first set and then outlasted her 7-6 (7-2) to take the victory, her first on the famed Centre Court, which Osaka said in her post-match interview is "so special." The win was her first time beating Sabalenka in eight years, since the 2018 U.S. Open. She had already lost three times this year to the Belarusian star.
"I think it was a really fun match. I'm really grateful," Osaka said as the crowd laughed. "Even if I lost, I would still think it was a great match. But no, it was really fun."
Osaka pointed out her mother, Tamaki Osaka, in her player's box. She thanked her for her ******* anese cooking, which she said "powered" her. Tamaki, wearing a white sunhat, sunglasses and white gloves, blew kisses to her daughter. The tennis star's kimono and cherry blossom-inspired outfits at the tournament have paid tribute to her ******* anese heritage.
The four-time major winner has appeared in six Wimbledon competitions. This year marks her first time making it to the quarterfinals. She will face Karolína Muchová on Tuesday, July 7.

Inter have retained just one of their veterans whose contracts were expiring, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, while Yann Sommer, Francesco Acerbi, Stefan De Vrij, and Matteo Darmian all left the club on June 30th.
According to Calciomercato, the Armenian midfielder accepted a significantly reduced rate after pocketing €4M last year. Inter aren’t moving on from their initial plan in the midfield for now. They continue to prioritize Curtis Jones despite the large gap in the negotiation with Liverpool, Corriere dello Sport informs. Nottingham Forest showed interest in him as well, as they are about to sell Elliot Anderson to Manchester City. However, the player prefers the Nerazzurri or, eventually, other sides that will participate in the UEFA Champions League. Christian Chivu directly suggested acquiring him after facing the Reds last season.
Mkhitaryan is set for his fifth campaign at San Siro, following his run at Roma and his Premier League stay at Manchester United and ******* nal. He has notched 12 goals and 21 ******* ists in 187 tilts with the current Italian champions.
It’s interesting that they didn’t make an effort to keep either center-back, as it’ll increase the need to sign two reliable pieces there. Jones is more of a cherry on top to improve the midfield than a real necessity, so it’s fine to stick with that pursuit for a while longer.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The 4th of July isn’t until Saturday. But you would’ve sworn it had arrived sooner if you were on the grounds at Levi’s Stadium Wednesday.

The festive atmosphere amid a sea of red, white and blue supporters dominated the scene. The only thing missing were fireworks and a hot dog eating contest. Which by the way FIFA officials should have rigged up considering it was in world champion Joey Chestnut’s backyard (he’s a graduate of nearby San Jose State).

Actually, there were plenty of fireworks. More on that in a moment.

It was against that backdrop that the United States began its quest for true glory at the 2026 World Cup. The Americans had no excuses as they sauntered onto the pitch against Bosnia and Herzegovina on a seasonably warm summer’s late afternoon.

Of course only in FIFA’s bizzarro world does the USA play a match on Canada Day and Canada plays a game on the 4th of July when our neighbors to the North face Morocco in Houston. Makes perfect sense, right?

But if you want truly bizarre, look no further than Folarin Balogun’s night on the pitch.

The talented striker who was born in Brooklyn, has lived most of his life in the United Kingdom and has his place on Team USA because of his birthright citizenship, something affirmed the day before by the U.S. Supreme Court, scored the first goal, had a second called back for offsides, would’ve had a third had his shot not hit the crossbar and had his night cut short when Brazilian referee Raphael Claus showed him the red card in the 64th minute following a harsh challenge, forcing the Americans to play with 10 men the rest of the way.

It left the majority of the sellout crowd of 68,827 scratching their heads wondering what had happened to the man who had dominated the match up until he was shown to the exit. It also meant Balogun’s services will not be available come Monday when the U.S. faces Belgium at Lumen Field in Seattle in the Round of 16.

But they managed to survive the shorthanded situation as Malik Tillman’s free kick in the 82nd minute found the back of the net and was the capper of a 2-0 victory over the Dragons.

“I think it showed how strong a team we are,” said defender Chris Richards. “We got down a man but ****** ody got stressed out.

“It was unlucky for Flo but it is what it is and it was very important that we kept a clean sheet. But the cherry on top was Malik’s free kick.”

Freeman said of his big goal that helped put the game on ice: “We talked about going around the wall or going over the wall. But I practiced it in training and I’m glad it went in.”

Michael Byrne, the English actor best known for his roles in Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Braveheart, and more, is dead at 82.
On Tuesday, June 30, The Guardian was the first to report Bynre's death. The actor died on June 20, although a cause of death was not revealed. He is survived by his ex-wife, actress Carole Nimmons; their two daughters, Tara and Bryon; and three grandchildren, Tom, Chloe, and Jasmine.
Byrne memorably played the villain Colonel Ernst Vogel in 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) opposite Harrison Ford's ****** ular character. He also portrayed Albus Dumbledore's rival, the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010), as well as the villain Smythe in Braveheart (1995).

Crafted by Tokyo-based designer Hana Yagi, it included embroidered cranes, a cherry blossom pattern, a stream of intricately constructed bows and a ruffled tulle skirt. The garment, which Osaka wore over her Nike kit, was an homage to **** anese ceremonial dress. She finished the look with a kanzashi, a traditional **** anese hair ornament.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – As the setting sun illuminated Shinnecock Hills in a golden hue on Saturday evening, Wyndham Clark polished off his third round of the 126th U.S. Open in relative solitude.
It was even lonelier atop the leaderboard.
As Clark scrambled like **** to an even-par 72 and six-shot lead, fans scrambled for the exits. The day had started with encouraging energy – a warmer, firmer Shinnecock and the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele in contention – but by the time the final pairing of Clark and Matt Fitzpatrick hit the back stretch, the grandstands and chalets were half full to basically empty. Even the club’s iconic clubhouse, usually bustling with movers and shakers, was eerily quiet as Clark entered its scoring area, having all but sucked the life out of this championship.
Four players trail by a touchdown, including Scheffler, who posted one of only two under-par rounds on the day but squandered shots on each of his final three holes. Had it not been for Clark’s closing bogey, you could’ve tacked on the extra point. A seven-stroke deficit would’ve required a repeat of the largest final-round comeback in championship history to deny Clark, who coincidentally grew up on Cherry Hills Country Club, where Arnold Palmer orchestrated his record rally to win the 1960 U.S. Open.
Not that one shot makes much difference – Johnny Miller is the only man who has made up six strokes in this championship, and he needed a Sunday 63 to prevail at Oakmont in 1973. Considering a third of Shinnecock’s 18 holes yielded three or fewer birdies in Round 3, including Nos. 2 and 3 each allowing just a single score under par, it’s highly unlikely that Scheffler or anyone else has that kind of performance in them as the USGA figures to tighten the screws on this golf course even more for Sunday’s finish.

In front of a sell-out crowd of 45,775 on fireworks night on a day the stands were packed with Red Sox and World Cup fans alike, the Mariners fizzled out, dropping the opening game against Boston in dismal fashion. By the ninth inning, a loud “let’s go Red Sox” chant had erupted, with the only joy for Mariners fans a garbage-time Julio Rodríguez two-run shot.
Every piggyback game feels like two games, but the contrast tonight was especially stark. In the Bryce Miller game, the story was: one ambush home run and a lot of good pitching between; in the Luis Castillo-led part of the piggyback, the story was: one bad and BABIP-fueled bad inning, one also-not-great-inning and some decent pitching between. But the part of the story that was consistent throughout the game was the Mariners offense once again failing to do much against a left-handed starter, and failing to capitalize on opportunities when they had them.
Bryce Miller had a clean first and was one out away from a clean second when Caleb Durbin ambushed a first-pitch fastball at the top of the zone and yanked it over the wall in left field just enough to clear the fence – a home run at just 13 MLB parks including T-Mobile and Fenway. Maybe that shook Miller’s confidence somewhat, because he then struggled to put away Marcelo Mayer, getting into a ten-pitch battle that ended with Mayer staring at a fastball on the plate for a called strike three.
Miller didn’t have a clean inning after the first, but he was able to face the minimum in both the third and fourth thanks to a well-timed double play, getting Mickey Gaspar, who has both the name and countenance of a 1900s circus strongman, to tap into an inning-ending double play on the splitter. In the fourth, he got an ***** ist from Cal Raleigh (welcome back Cal) throwing out Wilyer Abreu trying to steal after Abreu had jumped on a first-pitch fastball for a ground ball single. Miller’s fifth inning was a cherry on top of a strong day, with two strikeouts and a weak groundout from Meyer, who’d given him the tough at-bat earlier. Miller doubled up on the curveball to Jarren Duran after Duran flinched after the pitch for his sixth strikeout of the day, and then went split-sweeper to Durbin, who had homered off him earlier, for his seventh strikeout.
“Everything felt good,” said Miller postgame, noting that he didn’t even have a chance to get to all his pitches because he was seeing so much success on the four-seamer. “I didn’t even throw a cutter today, so we still had that in the back pocket, and I think I threw one sinker…it’s never easy coming out of a one run game, especially when – I felt like I was rolling. With that long ball, it was not only his second career lead-off home run, but he now has five home runs and 10 RBIs over his last seven games. With that, he brings his season batting average up to .322 and his OPS to an outstanding .942 mark.
It was a battle of two potential Cy Young candidates at American Family Field as Kyle Harrison and Cristopher Sánchez faced off against each other. All eyes were on Harrison as he looked to bounce back after his short-lived outing in Las Vegas last Monday. He looked more like himself as he worked six scoreless frames while striking out three and only allowing three hits, with no walks allowed for the cherry on top.
Now that the first series of the homestand is over, the pitching staff no doubt figured out the recipe for success against the top third of the lineup against the Phillies. Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and Bryce Harper combined to go six-for-35 with 14 strikeouts, two walks, one RBI, and no extra-base hits. In fact, Schwarber had five of the six hits for the top of the lineup.
In our game discussion, we referenced the success Blake Perkins has had against Sánchez over his career, noting that he’s been perfect with a handful of RBIs. Though in seasons past he’s been a bit more consistent at the plate than he has this season, it carried into today’s series finale in a powerful way.

The NFL Draft is over, which typically signals the end of player additions for most teams, but this year, there are still some really solid players available in free agency. We’ve already seen a handful of them scooped up after the draft, but there are still plenty of starters available on the open market.
While most teams feel pretty good about the offseason they’ve put together, adding a cherry on top never hurt anybody, so today, I’m going through some of the best free agents still available and giving my best landing spot for each of them.
Best Landing Spot: Washington Commanders
Jauan Jennings was one of the top receivers to hit the open market this offseason and was projected by some to make over $20 million per year. But, somewhat inexplicably, he remains unsigned after the draft, while a slew of other receivers received big contracts in the opening week of free agency.
Jennings is 6-foot-3, 212 pounds and has 1,500+ yards and 15 touchdowns over the past two seasons. He’s can be a really solid WR2 or a high-end WR3 for a lot of teams in the league, but I would love to see him in Washington.
