Revolution Medicines, Inc. (NASDAQ:RVMD) touched an all-time high above $224 on August 27, 2026, following FDA approval of Rasonque (daraxonrasib) – the first broad RAS-targeted therapy cleared for metastatic pancreatic cancer. Creating a milestone, the approval came roughly five weeks after filing under the agency's national priority voucher. The pivotal RASolute 302 trial nearly doubled median overall survival, to 13.2 months from 6.7 on chemotherapy. While the clinical benefit is substantial, a $47 billion valuation suggests the market had already priced in this success.
RVMD carries essentially no product revenue yet. Its price rests entirely on the future. Evercore ISI has raised the next-year sales estimate for Rasonque to ~$2.4 billion. Additionally, the $47 billion valuation discounts much of a long-term pancreatic opportunity which the Evercore **** yst estimates Rasonque could generate about $15.1 billion in pancreatic-cancer sales by 2034. However, a few details complicate this math. First, the approved label applies strictly to second-line or multiagent-ineligible patients. The front-line indication represents the larger market opportunity but remains pending, meaning a notable portion of the TAM is not yet accessible. Second, RVMD's current valuation also sits well above the $28 billion–$32 billion takeover valuation reportedly discussed with Merck earlier this year. Bulls argue lung and colorectal trials justify the $47 billion beyond pancreatic cancer, though that pipeline potential remains unproven.
That matters because Revolution Medicines must now execute its first commercial launch independently in one of oncology's most challenging indications characterized by short survival, high patient frailty, and a U.S. list price of $39,800 for a 30-day supply. Commercialization will require heavy spending. The second-quarter net loss widened to $644 million, and full-year operating expense guidance increased to between $2.1 and $2.2 billion. While a $3.9 billion cash balance and up to $1.5 billion in committed royalty financing fund the launch, operational execution remains the primary risk.
Insiders were net sellers of roughly $21.5 million over the past 90 days with zero buying. Hedge fund data on the stock is flat. As per the Insider Monkey database, 105 funds held RVMD in the second quarter of 2026, modestly down from 106 in the first, indicating strong conviction among institutional investors. Short interest sits near 6% of float, representing a modest level of bets against the stock.

On August 10, TPG Mortgage Investment Trust, Inc. (NYSE:MITT) and Cherry Hill Mortgage Investment Corporation (NYSE:CHMI) announced a definitive merger agreement in which MITT will acquire CHMI. Under the cash-and-stock deal, CHMI stockholders will receive 0.3063 shares of MITT common stock and $0.93 in cash per share, implying a value of $3.10 per CHMI share based on August 7 closing prices. This represents a 29% premium to CHMI's unaffected price and a 32% premium to its 30-day VWAP. Unanimously approved by both boards and slated to close in Q4 2026, the combined entity will operate as TPG Mortgage Investment Trust under CEO T.J. Durkin, expanding MITT's board to eight with two CHMI independent directors.
Following the announcement, Citizens downgraded Cherry Hill Mortgage from Outperform to Market Perform on August 11, removing its price target and noting that CHMI shares are now fairly valued around the $3.10 implied buyout price.
11 Tips to Get Approved for a Mortgage
In Q2 2026, TPG Mortgage Investment Trust, Inc. (NYSE:MITT) demonstrated stronger underlying financial execution. MITT reported GAAP net income of $0.29 per diluted share and Earnings Available for Distribution (EAD) of $0.24 per share, fully covering its $0.24 dividend. Book value rose to $10.00 per share with an economic return on equity of 2.7%. Its total investment portfolio stood at $7.7 billion with low economic leverage of 1.8x.
Cherry Hill Mortgage Investment Corporation (NYSE:CHMI), by contrast, generated GAAP net income of $0.04 per share and EAD of $0.15 per share, which fell short of covering its $0.10 quarterly dividend without factoring in preferred obligations. CHMI's GAAP book value ended at $3.16 per share, while its portfolio leverage was significantly higher at 5.02x. MITT clearly enters the deal from a position of relative operational stability, better dividend coverage, and lower balance sheet leverage.

Highway and Motive said in a joint statement that they have reached an agreement to restore the frequency at which Highway can access electronic logging device data belonging to Motive customers when carriers authorize that access, ending a disruption that began earlier after Motive limited the application programming interface connection between the two platforms and indicated Highway would need to compensate it for the data. The companies said they are working together to ensure uninterrupted service for the carriers and brokers that rely on both.
The statement said no action is required from carriers or brokers.
Both companies framed the resolution around carrier authorization. They said they share a commitment to giving motor carriers transparency and control over how their data is authorized and used, and that they are in discussions to update their existing agreement to more clearly reflect current use cases. The companies also said they intend to build on the relationship by identifying opportunities to improve data fidelity, reduce latency and create better experiences for carriers and brokers.
"Motive and Highway both play important roles in the freight ecosystem, and we are committed to serving customers together," said Jordan Graft, CEO of Highway. "We have a clear path forward that protects carrier choice and allows us to continue improving the experience for brokers and carriers."
Shoaib Makani, co-founder and CEO of Motive, said: "Our carriers depend on an ecosystem of partners to run their businesses. We are pleased to have reached a path forward with Highway that supports our customers and provides clarity around data use."

Well, they lost the first one. But they're back to try it again! The San Francisco Giants are hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks for the second game of a doubleheader, and are hoping to split the four-game series.
It's an exciting pitching situation for the Giants, as right-hander Yunior Marte takes the mound for his MLB debut. Marte — not to be confused with the reliever of the same name, who pitched for San Francisco in 2022 — is a young prospect whom the Giants acquired a year ago in the Mike Yastrzemski trade. He is, shockingly, following in Jonah **** 's footsteps as the second player the Giants have called up directly from AA this year … after going nearly a decade without making such a move.
Marte, who turned 23 earlier this month, has a strong fastball/slider combo, with a splitter as well. He's fastball reliant, and sits mid-90s, while occasionally touching high-90s. He does a good job limiting walks, despite a slightly herky-jerky motion that isn't always conducive to consistent strike-throwing. In 13 starts with AA Richmond this year, Marte posted a 3.92 ERA and a 3.97 FIP, with 72 strikeouts and 22 walks in 64.1 innings. He started the year with High-A Eugene, where he had a 3.74 ERA and a 4.11 FIP in nine games, with 41 strikeouts and 19 walks in 43.1 innings. He was not on the 40-man roster (though he would have been a Rule 5 decision this winter), so the Giants made a spot for him by moving Casey Schmitt to the 60-Day IL. The Giants made **** e on the active roster by optioning lefty Seth Lonsway, who made his MLB debut in the first game of the doubleheader.
For Arizona, it's lefty Mitch Bratt, who is also a 23-year old lefty. Bratt, who was a fifth-round pick in 2021, has made nine appearances in his debut season, and is 1-2 with a 4.54 ERA, a 5.28 FIP, and 28 strikeouts against 25 walks in 39.2 innings. After a pair of great starts to open the month, Bratt has given up three runs in three innings in each of his last two games.
Enjoy the baseball, everyone!

When next the Tennessee ******* ans take the field, it'll matter. For now, it's wait-and-see time at the bottom of the roster.
Led once again by the reliable leg of kicker Joey Slye and not much else, the ******* ans completed the 2026 NFL preseason with a 24-15 loss against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 29. Now it's time for the sprint to the start of the regular season. NFL active rosters must be cut down to 53 players by 5 p.m. CT on Aug. 30, meaning the ******* ans will have to sever ties, at least temporarily, with 38 players before rebuilding a practice squad of up to 17 players on Aug. 31.
The ******* ans rested most all of their starters in this one, a departure from coach Robert Saleh's strategy in the first two weeks of the preseason. The only projected starters who played on offense were rookies Carnell Tate, who only took three snaps, and Fernando Carmona Jr. On defense, contributors like Cedric Gray, Jacob Martin, Marcus Harris and Jordan Elliott played intermittently in the first quarter.
Quarterback Will Levis led the ******* ans' offense throughout the first half, finishing his day 14-for-22 passing with 143 yards. Bears starter Tyson Bagent continued the trend of backup quarterbacks torching the ******* ans' defense in the first half of preseason games, completing 16 of 17 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns, including a 97-yard score on his first play from scrimmage.
Slye made 11 field goals across three preseason games, the most by any kicker in any preseason since Graham Gano in 2016. Counting preseason games and training camp practices that media have been able to view, Slye has made 36 consecutive field goals.

The Seattle Seahawks on Saturday officially signed cornerback Terrion Arnold, who is facing felony charges in Florida and will be placed on the commissioner's exempt list while the case plays out.
Arnold, 23, is facing eight felony charges stemming from allegations he orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men in February. He became a free agent in June, when the Detroit Lions released him a few days after the kidnapping, armed robbery and conspiracy charges were levied.
Arnold will not be permitted to play or practice with the Seahawks as a result of being on the exempt list, but while the league investigates his case he can be paid and attend team meetings. It is not known when he might be able to play.
The Seahawks agreed to terms with Arnold two weeks ago. Coach Mike Macdonald said at the time that the team understood the ramifications of signing Arnold.
"We also understand that it's a serious situation with a legal matter. There's a process behind it, so we respect that," Macdonald said. "That's how we'll operate, just letting that process play out and let the league decide if and when his return to play is. We'll understand that that's at play, but there's also an opportunity to bring him and give him an opportunity to earn a position here."

If you're an avid reader of Acme Packing Company, you know that I feel like the Green Bay Packers show their cards a bit when it comes to pre-draft visitors. Since 2022, when the Packers appeared to have changed their visit strategy from almost being used exclusively on undrafted free agent rookie recruiting to more of a mix of picks and free agent prospects, Green Bay has signed, traded for, drafted or claimed on waivers 36 players who were pre-draft visitors with the team.
Often, when these players become available (some of them never become available, because they were high draft picks who were picked before the Packers were on the clock), Green Bay ends up targeting them in some way or another. While players like Darian Kinnard, John FitzPatrick and Josh Whyle weren't originally picked by the Packers, they did find their way to Green Bay later in their careers.
So, when a pre-draft visitor becomes available, my radar always goes up, especially if it's the first time the Packers have had a shot at bringing them to Green Bay since draft weekend. That's the case right now with New York Giants running back Damon Bankston, who was waived by the team on Saturday.
Bankston took a pre-draft visit with the Packers this spring, but ended up signing with the Giants for $115,000 guaranteed, far more than Green Bay spent on their UDFA running back signing, Jaden Nixon — who was added to the offseason roster for $15,000 guaranteed.
The New Mexico product was an interesting sleeper prospect in the class of 2026, as he posted 635 rushing yards (5.6 yards per carry), five touchdowns on the ground and caught 31 ****** for 397 yards and three touchdowns (12.8 yards per reception, a very high number for backs) through the air in his one year of FBS football. The numbers don't exactly look incredible from a volume perspective, but he was very efficient in the 9-4 Lobos' running back by committee (and he led the team in yards from scrimmage).

Michelle Obama is getting candid about life after her daughters left home—and not every parent on the internet can relate.
The former first lady, 62, recently opened up about becoming an empty nester with her husband, former President Barack Obama. The couple shares two daughters, Malia, 28, and Sasha, 25, and Michelle admitted that she surprisingly doesn't find herself missing them all that much.
The revelation came during a recent episode of Michelle and her brother Craig Robinson's podcast, IMO, which featured comedian Jon Stewart.
The conversation touched on the realities of raising children while juggling demanding careers, the impact that busy schedules can have on marriages and what happens when kids eventually leave home.
When the topic turned to missing her daughters, Michelle didn't hesitate.

Beyoncé has built a career defined by precision, discipline, and an almost unmatched attention to detail, qualities the superstar has repeatedly connected to her Virgo zodiac sign. Born on September 4, Beyoncé has proudly embraced her astrological identity through interviews, birthday celebrations, and songs such as "Gift From Virgo" and "Virgo's Groove." She has even blamed her tendency to overthink on being a Virgo, while people who have worked with her have described the extraordinary effort she puts into perfecting every performance.
However, Beyoncé's relationship with perfection appears to be evolving. After decades of allowing her Virgo characteristics to influence her public identity, the singer now says she is more interested in growth, storytelling, and creative freedom than creating something technically flawless.
Xavier Collin/Image Press Agency / MEGA
Beyoncé has never hidden the more complicated side of her meticulous personality. During a 2013 interview with GQ, the "Crazy in Love" singer directly connected her tendency to overanalyze situations to her Virgo zodiac sign.
"Because I'm a Virgo, I will think myself into a crazy frenzy, and I will re-think and re-think and figure out, you know, way too many things," she admitted, which closely reflects several qualities astrologers traditionally ******* ociate with Virgo. The earth sign, which is ruled by Mercury, is frequently characterized as ******* ytical, practical, organized, and detail-oriented.

One of the strangest scheduling anomalies in all of sports is about to have its swan song this weekend in college football's befuddling and charming Week 0.
The fact that a Week 0 even exists is quintessential college football in that it couldn't really exist anywhere else and make any sense at all. However, it has been alive for years, allowing a select handful of teams an opportunity to begin the regular season a week before everybody else. The weekend is open to anyone playing an international game (TCU-UNC in Dublin, Ireland) and anyone playing an away game at Hawaii to compensate for their extra travel. The NCAA can also provide a waiver for games, although that is rare. This season, it was given to NC State and Virginia as they were originally scheduled to play their season opener in Brazil before it was moved back stateside.
However, 2026 will be the last year that the sport enjoys an appetizer before the regular season truly kicks off in full. The FBS Oversight Committee approved legislation on Friday that will move the calendar up one week so that all teams begin during the week that has served as Week 0.
"Earlier this year, the FBS Calendar Subgroup presented recommendations to the committee to amend the regular season and the off-campus recruiting model," the NCAA briefing said. "In response to those recommendations, a new FBS first-contest date has been adopted and will take effect in the 2027 season. The season will begin on the Thursday of what is now designated Week 0 and end on the Saturday after Thanksgiving."
This year's Week 0 consists of eight games. And while none of them are true barnburners, it's a nice, gentle way to start the regular season. And with American fans starved for any kind of football that matters, we will gladly sit down and watch New Mexico State travel to Florida State in primetime.

LSU may soon fire the loudest shot yet in a battle with its own conference.
The SEC has communicated to plaintiff attorneys that the league will comply with a Louisiana state court order permitting their clients — former professional football players — from a return to college. Yahoo Sports obtained a message from the conference legal counsel to attorneys signaling the news.
The message paves the way for a host of players to join SEC programs, most notably at LSU, where two players who signed pro contracts this summer are poised to now be on coach Lane Kiffin's roster.
Dae'Quan Wright, the former Ole Miss tight end who signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns, and Ole Miss defensive tackle Zxavian Harris, who signed with the Saints before being waived, plan to sign with the university. While the signing does not immediately constitute a violation of the SEC's new policy banning former professional players, their inclusion on LSU's final roster would. Rosters are not set until a day before Game 1 (Friday).
The impending signings continues to put at odds the SEC and LSU in an unprecedented legal collision over athlete eligibility that's been brewing for days. A Louisiana judge earlier this month granted Wright and other players an additional year of eligibility through a temporary restraining order by prohibiting the NCAA from enforcing its eligibility standards.

Barcelona new signing Jesse Bisiwu has opened up on how he's settling into life at the club after making the switch from Club Brugge this summer.
The 18-year-old has already caught the eye by scoring twice in a pre-season friendly against Basel and will be hoping he can impress in Catalunya.
Bisiwu named Jules Kounde and Frenkie de Jong as two players who have been looking out for his so far and was quick to respond which asked which player has impressed him most at Barca since he joined.
"Raphinha, without a doubt," he told Het Laatste Nieuw. "I find it incredible how he gives 100% in every training session."
Bisiwu also admitted that it's been a big step up but that he's doing his best to show his skills on the training ground.

Ever since the New York Giants signed former first-round pick Odell Beckham Jr. at the beginning of June, the former Pro Bowler has been on a mission to make the roster. The Giants closed the preseason Friday with a 23-6 victory over the New York Jets, and Beckham played a prominent role on offense.
His three-catch performance on six targets came after what head coach John Harbaugh considered Beckham's best week of camp.
Beckham raised his level of play at the right time, finishing the preseason strong ahead of cutdown day this weekend.
An emotional Beckham admitted he was grateful for the opportunity the Giants gave him to show he still has some gas left in the tank, and he shared what making the roster would mean to him.
"It would mean everything," Beckham said. "It would be my dream. This is where I started. There's no place I want to give my whole heart to, more than any place in the world, than this place right here."

Manchester City has joined the race for Julian Alvarez in a stunning twist to the future of the Argentinian star, who insists on leaving Atletico Madrid, Metro Sport reports.
Arsenal has shown the strongest interest in Alvarez outside Spain after Atletico vowed that he would not be sold to Barcelona, no matter what. The Catalans are his dream club, and the team he insists he wants to join, but Atletico is committed to denying him the opportunity to play for them.
The Madrid club is now looking to ensure that they keep Alvarez, but if he insists on leaving, they will sell him to a club outside Spain. That decision would hand ***** nal an advantage as they continue to pursue the highly rated attacker.
However, City has now made a late entrance into the race to re-sign Alvarez, having been the team that sold him to Atletico and his first club in Europe. Their interest represents a significant development in the battle for his signature.
Alvarez won all the main club trophies when he played for City, and the club now wants to deny ***** nal the chance to add a top attacker to their squad this summer. Their decision to enter the race could therefore make Alvarez's future even more difficult to predict.

India star Suryakumar Yadav admitted that a lack of hard work stopped him from succeeding in one-day international cricket.
His ODI career spanned just 37 matches, yielding 773 runs at a modest average of 25.76.
He took full responsibility for his ODI struggles, rejecting excuses around timing or team management decisions.
Suryakumar Yadav's dominance in T20 cricket has never really been in question, but his relationship with the 50-over format tells a completely different story, and the Mumbai batter has now opened up honestly about exactly why that gap exists.

Where to watch Columbus vs. Bishop Gorman football: Channel, live stream, kickoff time for high school game originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
A week after taking down the No. 1 team in the country, Bishop Gorman has ascended to the top spot and will travel cross-country for its next marquee game.
The Gaels' first game atop the MaxPreps national rankings will be in Miami on Saturday against Columbus, the perennial multi-sport powerhouse. The Explorers opened their season last week with a 45-7 rout of Southridge, while Gorman took down St. John Bosco 38-28.
Gorman's junior quarterback Ace Amina threw for 227 yards and four touchdowns last week, but the Gaels have plenty of star power on defense, too, including senior four-star corners Hayden Stepp (Oregon commit) and Kamil Loud (Cal).
The player to watch for Columbus is five-star athlete A'mir Sears, who is committed to the hometown Hurricanes as a corner but could also end up getting receiver reps in college.

Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) began a 36-month share-repurchase authorization on August 24 that permits the company to buy up to 14.4 million common shares, representing approximately 5% of shares outstanding as of August 14, for as much as US$300 million.
The headline amount overstates what Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) would spend at its current valuation. At the August 24 closing price of $18.28, repurchasing the full 14.4 million shares would cost approximately $263.2 million before transaction costs. The share limit would become the binding constraint unless the average purchase price exceeds roughly $20.83.
The buyback is financially plausible because Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) ended June with C$1.23 billion of cash. First-half operating cash flow reached C$31.6 million, compared with a C$14.9 million outflow a year earlier, while second-quarter revenue increased to C$43.0 million from C$7.2 million.
Sangdong is also moving beyond construction. Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) began feeding stockpiled ore into the processing plant in June to produce saleable tungsten concentrate. Phase I is designed for approximately 640,000 tonnes of annual ore throughput, and the planned Phase II expansion could increase capacity to approximately 1.2 million tonnes.
If management is correct that the market undervalues Sangdong's future cash flow, retiring shares before the mine reaches full output could increase each remaining shareholder's participation in that growth. Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) also has flexibility to spread purchases across three years rather than committing the entire amount immediately.

Aug 27 (Reuters) - A U.S. advisory committee on autism is set to propose that federal agencies nearly double investment in research and initiatives focusing on medical care, housing, aging, and other priorities to support people with the condition and their families.
Members of the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee, a federal advisory panel appointed by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. this year, will meet on Thursday to discuss their new strategic plan to reshape federal priorities in autism.
The draft plan, made public on the IACC's website last month, suggests boosting investment by the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other agencies to $747.4 million annually from $390.4 million to address a sweeping array of issues impacting people with autism and their families.
Current federal spending, relative to the economic burden of autism, is less than other diseases, such as Alzheimer's and asthma, the draft plan says.

When Vinod Khosla admitted in his first press conference as the new owner of the Seattle Seahawks that he has been — and continues to be — a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, it was the quote that launched a thousand reactions.
Media outlets and social media accounts had a field day with the comments made Wednesday, including the Seattle Times, New York Post, The Comeback, and Barstool Sports.
"What not to do during your opening press conference as the new Seahawks owner? Reveal you've been a Steelers fan your whole life and still watch all of their games," wrote Barstool in a post on X featuring video of Khosla's comments.
Admittedly, not the best look, even if his comments were overblown. That's probably something best left for the next time the two teams play, and only after Seattle wins.
Still, while Khosla might only be a few days into his tenure as an NFL owner, he's not wasting any time pushing back on the narrative that he's not fully committed to the Seahawks franchise.

Who's got the best high school football in the country? Texas, Florida and California have each long laid stake to that claim, but it's rare that we see good teams from those states play each other. But that's what's happening at Chaparral Stadium in Friday's much anticipated 2026 season opener between the Westlake Chaparrals and the Inglewood (Calif.) Sentinels.
Westlake is one of Texas' top programs. Inglewood is packed with FBS talent, including two defensive linemen committed to Texas A&M and Oklahoma and a defensive back who'll play at Cal. And Chaps quarterback Patton Jones is making his first start against a defense that had seven sacks in Inglewood's season opener last week.
Anderson receiver Kyler Sharp (15) makes a catch over Johnson defensive back Zavier Antoine (31) during the game at Hays High School on Thursday, August. 27, 2026 in Kyle, Texas. (Aaron E. Martinez/Austin American-Statesman)
But that's not the only big game of note tonight. While the big Lake Travis vs. Dripping Springs opener was canceled, there are still a couple of high-profile matchups that we're watching, including Weiss at Round Rock, a matchup of two of the American-Statesman's top 10 preseason power poll teams; Cedar Park and A&M Consolidated as the Timberwolves make their Class 6A debut; and Vandegrift at San Antonio Brennan, a matchup of two teams expected to win their Class 6A districts.
We're at three games tonight. Colby Gordon is covering the Weiss-Round Rock game at Dragon Stadium, Caleb Yum is at Westlake vs. Inglewood, watching all those college prospects at Chaparral Stadium, and Cory Mull is at Wrangler Stadium in Liberty Hill, where he's watching the Legacy Ranch Wranglers - Central Texas' newest high school - play their first varsity game ever at home against Manor New Tech.

Just a few weeks ago, this series looked like it would all but determine the AL Central. While it still will go a long way towards that for the White Sox, a seven-game winning streak by the Cleveland Guardians that has seen them make their case as the only other "contender" in the division.
With the Twins all but out of the race, and the Guardians right on Chicago's heels, this series is an absolute must-win for the South Siders. As they have all season, the White Sox have treaded water as of late. Unfortunately, the Guardians look to finally be making their move.
While the White Sox are currently in the playoffs by 4 ½ games, winning the division is imperative to not only get a home playoff game, but to also likely get the second seed and a bye into the ALDS.
You may be asking yourself: Who are the White Sox going to throw out for game one of this pivotal series? Why it would be none other than Luis Castillo, who has been about as popular in Chicago as Aaron Rodgers. Admittedly, the only significant piece the Sox gave up for Castillo was Seranthony Domínguez, who isn't a good pitcher, either, but Castillo has performed like a double agent for the rest of the AL Central.
In four starts for the team, Castillo has a 5.89 ERA. Most recently, he gave up eight hits and four earned runs in less than three innings of work against the New York Mets last Saturday. To say the crowd was unimpressed by his performance (me included) would be an understatement. Outside of a start against the Cincinnati Reds (0ne hit over seven innings), Castillo has allowed four or more runs in every other effort for the South Siders. While the Twins aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut, fans will still be holding their breath.

Just be a better game than yesterday's game. It is a simple ask. Admittedly, it would be hard to be worse.
The season has me thinking about the value of hitting coaches. The Jays had a disappointing 2024 season, and reshaped the hitting coaching staff. And last year they hit well. Lots of praise to the coaches.
This year, basically same hitting coaches and we aren't hitting at all. Did the coaches suddenly get stupid? Or are hitting coaches overrated. Would the Jays be any worse with me as hitting coach? Oh likely. But would any hitting coach cause the Jays to hit better? Is there words you could use to get Vlad, Springer, Clement (92 OPS+), Giménez, Okamoto (100 OPS+), Lukes, Straw hitting better?
Should hitting coaches be fired at the end of every season? Maybe players tend to turn off the same voices, saying the same things.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays got county approval Friday on a financing plan that will allow them to build a new stadium, a day after city officials approved their part for the $2.3 billion ballpark project that will replace the domed Tropicana Field.
The Hillsborough County Commission voted 5-2 on Friday to approve its $796 million share of the mixed-use entertainment district that includes a new 31,000-seat stadium that will be near Raymond James Stadium, home of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Rays' new stadium is expected to open in 2029. The Tampa City Council city voted 4-3 on Thursday to approve $80 million.
Rays CEO Ken Babby said the team's partnership with the county and city on the project secures the long-term future of Major League Baseball in Tampa Bay.
"We now look forward to celebrating before breaking ground with Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa on a future that has long been doubted, but will indeed happen," Babby said. "By making the Forever Home a reality, the Rays are now home forever in Tampa Bay."
The Rays have committed to contributing at least $1.3 billion, plus any cost overruns. Another $30 million will come from federal disaster recovery funds.

Enzo Maresca hailed Rayan Cherki's "unbelievable" performance in Manchester City's 4-1 thrashing of Crystal Palace on Friday.
City boss Maresca admitted Cherki was frustrated to be left out of the starting line-up for last weekend's 2-1 win against Bournemouth in their Premier League opener.
The France midfielder responded to the snub in emphatic style.
He came off the bench to provide a pair of **** ists against Bournemouth and seized his chance to start at Selhurst Park with a masterful display that underlined his qualities.
The 23-year-old bagged a brace after an own goal from City keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had cancelled out Erling Haaland's opener in rainy south London.

The new (soon-to-be) owner of the Seattle Seahawks just got a lesson in how passionate the 12th Man can be about certain topics... especially when it comes to rivalries and historic hatred. Recently, the NFL voted unanimously to approve the sale of the Seahawks from the Paul G. Allen estate to venture capitalize Vinod Khosla and his family for a record-breaking $9.6 billion.
During his initial press conference following the approval meeting, Khosla opened up about his history of being an NFL fan... and although he was honest, he definitely shared too much. Khosla explained he came to America in the 1970's when the Pittsburgh Steelers were the reigning force in the league and admitted he was still a fan of theirs. Not just a fan, but one who still watches all the Steelers games.
Oh boy... as expected, not many 12's were all that jazzed when they heard the new owner of the Seattle Seahawks is still a Steelers fan of all things. The painful memories of Super Bowl XL are still fresh to many older fans, and to them, the Steelers are just as bad as the Rams or 49ers.
But credit where credit is due, Khosla clearly heard the criticism and took to social media to emphasize where his loyalties lie. He even issued an apology.

NEW YORK — Defense is supposed to be George Lombard Jr.'s superpower, but the Yankees rookie is in the midst of a serious fielding slump.
The shortstop now has six errors in six consecutive games after booting a ground ball in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Astros. The bizarre streak continued on a bizarre play in the eighth inning, as Lombard, on the run, bounced the ball to and nearly collided with third baseman José Caballero, who then committed an error of his own when he airmailed a throw to first.
While it was Caballero's throw that allowed a run to score, it was Lombard's half of the play that drew attention after yet another mishap. Afterward, the frustrated 21-year-old acknowledged that he needs to "clean up" his defense, especially with the Yankees trying to catch the Rays for the division lead and fend off the incoming Red Sox for the American League's top Wild Card spot.
"I don't know. It's something you're trying to figure out," Lombard, who made just one error in his first 14 MLB games, said when asked why he's had such a tough time in the field lately. "Obviously, it's not acceptable. Can't happen at this level. If you make your pitchers have to get extra outs, it just makes it way harder on us."
Meanwhile, Aaron Boone said, "I don't think so" when asked if Lombard, who has played everyday since debuting on Aug. 4, could benefit from a day off. Instead, the manager said that he has "total confidence" that Lombard will put this unusual stretch "in the rearview mirror."

The debut in the NFL was hard for Max Iheanachor; he is not treating it as a failure.
Not having participated in the Pittsburgh Steelers' first two preseason games, Iheanachor got his chance to show off against the Buffalo Bills. The debut was accompanied by blunders such as being sacked once and committing a holding foul; nevertheless, the first-round draft pick did not try to hide it but rather accepted it as part of his game.

The debut of Iheanachor was delayed due to an injury, and as a result, he only had two practice sessions before his debut at Pittsburgh Steelers. As a consequence, the debut became particularly hard for Iheanachor, who confessed that things went not as planned.
Nevertheless, the rookie did not wish to blame anything for the poor game but confessed that the debut was very exciting for him, as he could finally play with his teammates.
