Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is beloved by his players. Whether it was during his time as a position coach, defensive coordinator, or now in his second tenure as an NFL head coach, Quinn is loved and respected across the NFL.
There's a reason why you hear other prominent players on rival teams express their love and respect for Quinn, such as Micah Parsons. Most recently, Quinn has taken a special interest in Washington's first-round pick, linebacker Sonny Styles. During training camp, Quinn referenced a conversation he had with Styles about making mistakes.
"We're chasing hard to have absolute elite execution," Quinn said last month. "I also recognize there are gonna be mistakes, and I want them to happen when you're working right on the edge of something; you're going to make them. I encouraged Sonny just the other day: make them. I want you to test yourself to see: Can I go to that ****** e to get the ball? Can I be in that location? Can I go take my shot? I want them right on the edge, knowing that mistakes are part of it, and then when they happen, that they don't get repeated. And so, that's the execution piece."

The Green Bay Packers have become the NFC's Baltimore Ravens under head coach Matt LaFleur. They've found a way to stack winning regular seasons around an electric quarterback. Then, they crumble into powder in the postseason.
LaFleur is 76-40-1 in Weeks 1-18 and 3-6 in win-or-go-home playoff games. Jordan Love has advanced beyond the Wild Card round only once. His most recent postseason start saw a 21-3 halftime lead become a 31-27 Chicago Bears victory.

This year's Packers look like a diminished version of the one that stalked the NFC North in years past. What comes next?
Several new additions will have larger roles for the Packers, including linebacker Zaire Franklin and second round rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse. None may be able to provide more peace of mind than Smack if he can live up to his draft status.

The sense I have is that the Vikings should (and do) feel confident going into this game, even if it's a small Vegas spread and there are a lot of Week 1 unknowns. They're at home, where they've won four of the last five meetings with the Packers. Green Bay is without leading rusher Josh Jacobs and has major questions on the offensive line. The Packers have some talented defenders but may struggle to generate a consistent pass rush without their superstar on that side of the ball, Micah Parsons.
The one area of concern that the Vikings must limit to win the game is Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love. Minnesota is well aware of how talented Love is. He's not going to be as rattled by Brian Flores' complex blitzes as other QBs might be. Love is plenty capable of delivering accurate throws downfield while staring down pressure.
"His growth and development has been outstanding," Flores said on Thursday. "He's just grown and grown. Whether it's cadence, whether it's on the ball, no-huddle, he's got total, total command and understanding of what they're trying to do. Obviously he's got a great coach and they work extremely well together. Great rapport with his receivers. He's always been super talented. Just a naturally gifted, accurate thrower of the ball. It's actually been fun to watch him grow.

In ESPN's most recent projections for who will be the top 100 players in the NFL this season, there are five Houston Texans players who made the list. Four of them were on defense: defensive ends Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter, as well as cornerbacks Derek Stingley and Kamari Lassiter. Houston's one player on offense who made the list was wide receiver Nico Collins.
Anderson was the first Texans player on the list, coming in at No. 15 after his All-Pro season and finishing the year as the runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year. He's also the No. 4 defensive player, trailing only Los Angeles Rams' Myles Garrett (No. 1), Denver Broncos' Patrick Surtain (No. 7) and Green Bay Packers' Micah Parsons (No. 13).
"Anderson has an effort similar to that of players on their rookie deals trying to prove themselves in the NFL. Throughout the course of training camp, he has been extra disruptive," D.J. Bienn-Amie wrote. "He's getting to that point where he realizes if he wants to shut practice down, he can shut it down," defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins said. So, expect a better Anderson after his massive contract extension"
Signature stat: Anderson has the third-highest pass rush win rate in the NFL since entering the league in 2023 (23%). That trails only Micah Parsons (29%) and Myles Garrett (24%) over that span.

The Cowboys have two defensive captains this season, and both were acquired by trading Micah Parsons.
Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams are the Cowboys' defensive captains. A year ago, the Cowboys traded Parsons to the Packers for Clark and two first-round picks, and later they traded one of those picks to the Jets for Williams.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer singled out Williams as a leader who has meant a lot to the team.
"From the minute he got here, he's been about one thing, and it's winning," Schottenheimer said of Williams. "He's never won in the NFL and the leadership is real, the talent is incredible, but every decision that guy makes is based on what's best for us winning. I love that about him, and it's infectious. It rubs off. I love hearing him talk to the young linemen, the young defenders."
Unsurprisingly, quarterback Dak Prescott is the offensive captain and kicker Brandon Aubrey is the special teams captain. Schottenheimer said the players voted on the captains, and those four players were overwhelmingly the top vote getters.

Freight broker FitzMark announced it has acquired United Transportation Services, a broker specializing in trade show logistics.
Founded in 1998, Aurora, Colorado-based UTS is a full-service 3PL focused on the retail and hospitality industries. It provides dry van, refrigerated, flatbed and specialty truckload transportation as well as packaging, warehousing and white-glove delivery services.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The deal closed on Tuesday.
"Today marks an exciting new chapter— with the national support and strength of the FitzMark platform, we look forward to expanding capacity and service offerings while growing our shipper community together," said Bruce Parsons, CEO and president of UTS.
Indianapolis-based FitzMark provides brokerage services and a proprietary TMS to more than 3,000 shippers and 25,000 carriers. The company is backed by private equity firm Calera Capital.

Garrett recorded 23 sacks in 2025, setting the league's single-season record and delivering the kind of campaign few defensive players can match. Williamson guided the Rockets to an undefeated march to the Macomb Tournament ******* le on Saturday, Aug. 29. In the ******* le match, Williamson went for 12 kills and three blocks in beating Eureka 25-16, 25-19. She record 40 kills, 49 ******* ists and eight blocks in the five matches. Williamson also earned all-tournament team honors with teammate Mia Lamberti.
Parsons helped the Turks win the Charles Scanavino Tournament at Warrensburg-Latham on Saturday, Aug. 29. She went for 10 kills, two blocks and an ace to beat the hosts 25-17, 25-17. The junior middle hitter chipped in six kills to beat Olympia 25-13, 25-18 in the semifinals. Parsons was named all-tournament and Most Outstanding Player.

A historical Los Angeles property that late actor Tim Curry spent years carefully restoring to its former glory has come under offer, just hours after new of the "Rocky Horror" star's passing was announced.
The sprawling property, which is located in Los Feliz, was purchased by the actor for just $650,000 in 1993—and then underwent a multi-year renovation by Curry, who later showcased the results of the transformation in a shoot for Architectural Digest.
Drawing on inspiration from European design style, Curry—who passed away at the age of 80, 14 years after he suffered a major stroke—transformed the house into a warm, eclectic abode that would later be owned by a host of other famous faces, including "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson, "The Pitt" actor Noah Wyle, and "The Big Bang Theory" comedian Jim Parsons.
The four-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom spread was most recently listed for just under $10 million in July 2025, however it has since undergone several price cuts that eventually brought the ask down to $7.5 million on Aug. 6 of this year.
When news of Curry's death was revealed to the public, the home—which is listed with Ben Belack of Alex Everest—was still on the market, however records how now been updated to reflect that it has come under "contingent" offer, meaning that the seller has accepted an offer, but certain conditions need to be meet before the deal can close.

The Department of Defense continues to dole out lucrative contracts as the Pentagon looks to modernize and upgrade its supply chain. Boeing on Monday won a $131 billion contract covering the F-15 fighter jet fleet. The Missile Development Agency granted Parsons a contract extension worth more than $500 million. General Dynamics landed an armored vehicle contract. Elsewhere, William Blair lifted its 2027 targets for Booz Allen Hamilton after the company closed a $720 million acquisition.
Defense stocks were mixed early Tuesday.
The Air Force on Monday awarded Boeing (BA) a $131.23 billion contract to support the F-15 Eagle Crest program, which oversees the F-15 fighter jet fleet. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract covers aircraft production, systems integration, modernization, upgrades, retrofits and sustainment. The contract also calls for Boeing to establish organic depot maintenance capabilities for F-15 Eagle weapons systems for the Air Force, Air National Guard and other Department of Defense customers.
"Organic depot maintenance" refers to government facilities that do not rely on support from commercial contractors.
The DOD said Boeing will perform the work at its St. Louis, Missouri facility and it expects to complete it by August 2037. The ordering period for the contract runs to Aug. 24, 2031, with an option to extend to Aug. 24, 2036.

The New York Giants have a load of talent at pass rusher as they head into the 2026 NFL season. They've used three top-five draft picks at the position over the past five years, bringing in Kayvon Thibodeaux, Abdul Carter, and Arvell Reese, and traded away a second-round pick several years ago to land Brian Burns.
Burns is the veteran Pro Bowl leader of the group, and Reese is the rookie. Thibodeaux has been the oft-injured guy who has become a bit of an afterthought, but don't sleep on him.
Carter? Well, he could be the best of the bunch. The former Penn State star who was compared to Micah Parsons coming out of college in 2025 is poised for greatness. Just ask him. That's his goal.
"I want to be the greatest of all time," Carter told The Athletic.

General manager Adam Peters revamped the Commanders' defense, and while he didn't surround Jayden Daniels with a ton of offensive talent, signing Stefon Diggs during training camp gave the offense a huge boost. There are still questions and unknowns about this team, but they are ready to prove to the NFL that they are for real.
Former Dallas Cowboys and current Green Bay Packers linebacker Micah Parsons was asked to rank the teams in his former division, and his answers are very much in line with most NFL ******* ysts and reporters.
After naming the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys as numbers one and two, respectively, Parsons says, "At number three, I think this is going to be the hard one, but the Washington Commanders, they proved it. They went to the NFC Championship; they added talent. I think this team can be the real deal. I don't know if they can handle the haymakers like the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, but time will tell."
The New York Giants were obviously in the fourth spot in the NFC East, but Parsons is essentially saying all the same things that most ******* ysts say. The clear-cut leaders in the NFC East (as of now) appear to be the Eagles and Cowboys, in that order. Most ******* ysts and reporters have the Commanders and Giants at three and four, also in that order, although there are always a few outliers that have a different perspective.
For the Commanders, though, this is just more of the same. Someone else not truly believing in them. Someone else not taking a chance on them. As a former member of the NFC East as part of the Cowboys' defense, Parsons knows this division better than most. It hasn't always been tightly competitive, but this year that might be different. Despite the majority of ******* ysts and reporters citing this same order in rankings, the competition in the NFC East is far more fierce than a simple ranking can show.

In fantasy football, the QB position is easily the deepest player pool to choose from for managers. With that, we see a lot of year-over-year variance, QBs who are drafted later on jumping up into QB1 status by the end of the season. It's rare to have a QB's WR1, WR2, WR3, TE1 and RB1 all go before him in fantasy football ADP, but that's what is happening with Love. Either we are taking crazy pills with all of this Packers' investment or Love is simply underpriced. I think the latter. Love is benefiting from a few things this upcoming season. First, his skill group is sick. I love Matthew Golden at cost as a sleeper and Tucker Kraft being back a month before the season is promising. Beyond that, the Packers are stressing more pace in practice and they followed that up by quickly breaking the huddle and snapping the ball in preseason action last week. It wouldn't be a surprise if they passed more with Josh Jacobs' status and this new quicker-paced offense, and more dropbacks mean more fantasy points. On that, Love has been extremely efficient for years (see below), but the Packers have been too conservative for him to break into the top-10 fantasy mix. The defense looks rough early on without Micah Parsons, and the early schedule includes games with the Vikings, Jets, Falcons, Bears, Cowboys, Lions and Panthers. — Hayden Winks

He's flawed; his second season had plenty of missed throws down the field, but his natural playmaking ability and offense easily overcomes it. Keep in mind, this is only his second season in the offense and third overall in the NFL, often where the most offseason growth occurs for a QB. Williams has every ingredient of a great fantasy QB: Coaching, offensive line, weapons, scrambling, an aggressive passing style, all on an offense that will likely be in shootouts or as Ben Johnson loves, merciless blowouts. He already was a 20-PPG scorer in the second half of last season and can take it to the next level this year. — Joel Smyth

The Dallas Cowboys' defense was a problem throughout 2025, a collapse that began after Jerry Jones traded All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons before the season even kicked off. He was shipped to the Green Bay Packers for Kenny Clark and two first-round picks. Losing the generational talent completely shattered the team's pass rush.
However, Dak Prescott threw for 4,552 yards (3rd in the NFL), 30 touchdowns (4th in the NFL) and 10 interceptions for a stellar 99.5 passer rating. Despite his MVP-level performance, Dallas finished with an underwhelming 7-9-1 record and missed the playoffs.
With training camp underway, the frustration over that trade is boiling back up on X. Popular Cowboys **** yst and former defensive end J Tuck didn't sugarcoat how he felt about the front office wasting Prescott's elite season.
"You'll never get fans to admit the truth about the Micah trade it was idiotic and ruined a MVP season from our QB," Tuck wrote. "But we HAVE to move on and allow this defense to become something new it's not gonna be as [bad] as the DQ ERA but they 'should be' blue collar and get the job done just hold them to 23 points."

One of those football adages that has always stuck with me came from a member of an NFL team's front office circa 2010: "Never let desperation be confused with a plan." It came at a time when his team was signing anyone and everyone at defensive back to fill an injury void, and he told me this anonymously because he disagreed with the approach of throwing money at free agents, rather than letting rookies get their reps in and take lumps as a result.
At first glance the decision by the Dallas Cowboys to sign Von Miller seems like desperation. The team is still reeling from the need to find pass-rush help in the wake of trading away Micah Parsons, while coming to the realization that Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku really aren't the marquee talents you want to get after opposing quarterbacks. Miller is 37-years-old, he's a journeyman, and the Cowboys are his fourth team in the last five seasons.
Miller remains one of the most impactful pass rushers in the NFL. The future Hall of Fame lock has been reduced to just having one trick in his bag — but that's all the Cowboys need at this point.
It's completely understandable if you didn't watch the Commanders play last season. Heck, even die-hard Commanders fans would forgive you for skipping over their debacle of a 2025 campaign. What we saw out of Von Miller in Washington was punctuated brilliance. Dan Quinn and the coaching staff were well aware of what Miller can and can't do on the field at this point in his career, so he was used predominantly as a 3rd-down pass rusher, or an additional linebacker in some gadget sets. This concept worked extremely well, as Miller finished the 2025 season with 10 sacks and 36 total pressures on just 289 pass rush snaps.
This pressure rate of 12.4% is prolific compared with the pass rushers he joins now. Rashan Gary's pressure rate was 13% — but Ezeiruaku's was considerably worse at just 9%. This means that there's a natural advantage on third-down pass-rushing situations to swap out Ezeiruaku for Miller, bolstering the attack as a result. This becomes even more intriguing with the addition of Caleb Downs, whom Dallas selected in the draft. There's a gravity which comes from throwing Miller on the field which can't be avoided, even as he gets older — meaning he needs to be accounted for on third down situations. While he might not command a true double, there will need to be a chip block thrown his way as well, because this is still Von Miller we're talking about.

It took until the 12th day of training camp, but we finally got some fights in practice in Green Bay. The first scuffle was between running back Chris Brooks and linebacker Zaire Franklin, but the second one was more involved. Defensive lineman Chris McClellan landed hard on running back Pierre Strong Jr., which led to McClellan and offensive tackle Travis Glover punching and shoving, and the sidelines clearing.
On top of that, edge rusher Barryn Sorrell, who has been starting opposite Lukas Van Ness all camp, pushed tackle Anthony Belton all the way into quarterback Jordan Love. Sorrell was ripped from the drill and was "tore into" by head coach Matt LaFleur, according to The Athletic's Matt Schneidman.
At some point during camp, players get tired of banging around with the same guys over and over again. Apparently, the Packers crossed that threshold today.
Beyond the chippiness, here's what happened at practice on Sunday.
The PUP list remains the same, with tight end Luke Musgrave (neck), defensive lineman Jordon Riley (ankle), edge rusher Micah Parsons (knee) and Matt Orzech (calf) still not being activated. The non-participants in practice, beyond the PUP list, were running back Josh Jacobs (groin), offensive lineman Darian Kinnard (ankle), edge defender Lukas Van Ness (shoulder), edge defender Dani Dennis-Sutton (illness) and safety Javon Bullard (foot). Notably, though, Bullard was no longer in a boot in practice, as he's making progress on his bone bruise.

By the end of last season, the Green Bay Packers' defensive tackle depth was in shambles.
The move to trade Kenny Clark to Dallas before the season as part of the Micah Parsons deal, along with a season-ending injury to Devonte Wyatt, meant the Packers were relying on too many young, unproven players for quality snaps late in the year.
After addressing the position this offseason through the signing of veteran Javon Hargrave and the drafting of Chris McClellan in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, along with Wyatt getting healthy, the expectation was that they would be in a stronger position this time around.

After back-to-back disappointing seasons, it looks like the Dallas Cowboys are poised to enter the playoff hunt once again in the NFC. While injuries derailed them in 2024, last year had a much simpler explanation.
The defense was in shambles for most of the year, and it was easy to see why. Trading a then four-time, now five-time Pro Bowler like Micah Parsons can be a culture shock to his side of the ball, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones still believes he made the right choice.
Even as the contract negotiation dragged on, it felt inevitable that Parsons would return to the Cowboys. A former first-round pick, he had been a perennial Defensive Player of the Year contender and had three All-Pro selections in his first four seasons.
But right before their season got underway, the league was hit with a bombshell when they traded the Penn State product to the Green Bay Packers. As he went on to have an excellent season before a torn ACL, the Cowboys collapsed on the defensive side of the ball.
Ranked dead last on PFN's Defense Impact Metric, it held the team back in a major way, leading to a 7-9-1 record that saw them miss the playoffs for the second straight season. This year, the team has spent a ton of resources on rebuilding that side of the ball.

The Green Bay Packers are planning on playing healthy starters against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, according to head coach Matt LaFleur. Before practice on Tuesday, LaFleur stated that even quarterback Jordan Love is expected to play versus the Steelers, though he added that he has the right to change his mind between now and kickoff.

Cornerback Domani Jackson's injury has finally been identified. Per LaFleur, Jackson had surgery to his core over the offseason, but he's hopeful that Jackson will "be out there shortly."
Receiver Jayden Reed (ankle), receiver Matthew Golden (toe) and tight end Josh Whyle (neck) all returned to practice today. I think we can all collectively exhale for the status of the pass-catching group. Cornerback Carrington Valentine (hamstring) is also back out on the field.
Running back Josh Jacobs (groin), edge defender Dani Dennis-Sutton (illness) and safety Javon Bullard (foot) join Jackson as injured players on the active list. The Dallas Cowboys signed star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to a historic three-year, $105.9 million extension Monday afternoon, keeping the four-time Pro Bowler under contract through 2030.
However, a comment made by Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones after the news broke may raise even more eyebrows than the terms of the record-breaking contract itself.
Jones praised the 28-year-old Williams for his leadership while offering a pointed ****** sment of Dallas' defensive leadership in recent years. "[Williams is] a leader. We didn't have a lot of leadership on defense for the last couple of years," he said, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
That statement is difficult to overlook given the defensive star power Dallas has had in recent years. Three players in particular immediately come to mind: DeMarcus Lawrence, Micah Parsons, and Trevon Diggs. The trio combined for eight Pro Bowl appearances and three First-Team All-Pro selections from 2021 through 2024. Still, each star had a rocky end to his Cowboys tenure.
