JetBlue Airways (JBLU) is heading into a more significant phase of its comeback without one of the activist investors who helped alter its board.
Carl Icahn sharply cut his JetBlue position, selling roughly 8.13 million shares for about $40.4 million between Aug. 17 and Aug. 20, regulatory filings show. The transactions reduced the Icahn Group's interest to around 3.32%, or about 12.5 million shares, from over 10% when the activist investor initially revealed his position in 2024.
That's more than some spring cleaning.
Icahn's smaller stake fell below the amount needed to retain board presence at JetBlue. Jesse Lynn and Steven Miller, directors supported by Icahn, resigned both effective Aug. 24 after the group's ownership fell below the appropriate level, the airline said in an Aug. 27 filing with the SEC.
It is interesting timing for investors. JetBlue is aiming to show that its JetForward turnaround will restore sustainable profitability after years of strategic missteps, excessive expenses, and a failed attempt to combine with Spirit Airlines.

Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested in March for yet another vehicular accident. Woods agreed to a Breathalyzer test that showed no signs of alcohol, but he refused a urine test and showed signs of impairment during the ordeal.
Officers found two painkiller pills in his pocket, and he told deputies he had taken "a few" prescription medications earlier that day. Later, Woods pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and refusal to submit to testing.
Recently, Woods announced he planned to change his not guilty plea, according to court documents filed Tuesday. Woods was scheduled to appear in court on September 8th but is now expected on Wednesday morning for a plea conference.
The golf legend has been involved in a few other crashes over the years, all of which have stunted his illustrious career. In 2021, he survived a crash in Los Angeles so severe that doctors considered amputating his leg. Woods was not charged with any crimes as authorities determined the crash was caused by excessive speed and not impairment. On the other hand, in 2009, Woods crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree outside of his residence around 2:00 a.m. Police suspected Woods was under the influence or impaired by medication, but no actual charges followed.
Woods has had to bow out of golf due to several back surgeries and lower-body injuries that have affected his mobility. As a result, Woods has battled with prescribed substance dependency. As of June, he formally stepped away from the game and traveled outside of the United States to seek treatment at an inpatient treatment facility.

Sept 1 (Reuters) - UnitedHealth's insurance unit said on Tuesday that a broad range of conditions will no ‌longer need prior approval, effective October 1, as ‌it aims to eliminate prior authorization for 30% of healthcare services by the end of this year.
Here are the details:
• The reduction spans a broad mix of services across multiple clinical specialties, including cardiology, genetic and laboratory testing, chiropractic care, physical, occupational ‌and speech therapy, orthopedic ⁠and musculoskeletal procedures, among others.
• The prior authorization requirements are being eliminated across its commercial ⁠plans, Medicare Advantage for older adults and individual insurance under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and some other types of plans.
• Health insurers have been taking measures to ‌simplify their requirements for prior authorization on medicines and medical services after complaints from patients and doctors over excessive paperwork that can delay or even deny needed care.

The remarks, which underline Bessent's recent calls for the BOJ to raise interest ‌rates, reinforce the case ⁠for Ueda to argue for a hike at his bank's policy meeting on ⁠September 17-18.
The two officials met on Sunday on the sidelines of the G20 finance ministers' and central bank governors' meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, the Treasury Department ‌said in a statement.

NEW YORK (AP) — Coco Gauff was caught by surprise when she saw her mom take to social media about excessive U.S. Open ticket requests from family and friends.
That doesn't mean she has any issue with it.
A day after Candi Gauff posted on a "blunt but necessary statement" on Instagram saying her daughter's tickets for the Grand Slam tournament were spoken for, Coco defended the sentiment.
"Honestly, it was needed, and it was directed towards a few family and friends," Gauff said Friday. "People come out of the woodwork. You haven't spoken to someone for years. They don't say, 'Congrats' or, 'Happy birthday' or nothing. Then they're like, 'Oh, I'm in New York, can I have 8 tickets to your match in your box, please?"
Gauff is coming off winning the Cincinnati Open and initially thought her mother's post — which included a photo of her holding the trophy — was a sweet message about that victory. Instead, Candi Gauff had a point to make.

First things first. I am a car enthusiast, a motor racing fan and an active race competitor, having competed in the Nurburgring 24-hours in Germany and countless other domestic races in ****** an over the last 25 years. I've also been to watch numerous F1 races, the 24-Hours of Le Mans, the Indy 500, World Rally Championship events in the middle of nowhere, and even street F1 races from Monaco to Melbourne. So yes, I love cars and racing. But what President Trump did last weekend by staging his Freedom 250 IndyCar Grand Prix race in Washington DC was, well, let's just call it excessive, disruptive, inappropriate and tone-deaf.
Over the weekend, the distinct, ear-splitting whine of 2.2-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engines echoed off the marble facades of federal buildings as IndyCar made its highly controversial debut on the streets of the nation's capital.
The event, billed as the "Washington Grand Prix," saw open-wheel Indy race cars speeding at over 150 mph down Pennsylvania Avenue, transforming the historic corridor between the U.S. Capitol and the White House into a 1.7-mile long temporary, high-octane racetrack. The narrow, angular cars blasted past the US Capitol, made sharp turns around the National Archives, and pass the Smithsonian Air and ****** e Museum for a total of 147 laps, a number which equals a race distance of 250-miles. Yes, you guessed it. That 250 number had to relate to the nation's 250th anniversary celebration.

(NEXSTAR) — The condition known to cause "scromiting" among some marijuana users has become more prevalent in the U.S., a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows, though the trend among a specific age group may contradict previous understandings of the syndrome.
Cannabis (or cannabinoid) hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) is as serious as it sounds. The condition, which can cause excessive vomiting with recurring bouts of severe stomach pain and nausea, was first detected in Australia two decades ago. Some have referred to a combination of CHS symptoms – screaming, due to the intense pain, and vomiting – as "scromiting."
Hot showers and baths are often described as the only way to mitigate the discomfort. In rare cases, the condition has resulted in death, health officials said.

"[Patients] are not high in any fashion and in fact are in significant distress with uncontrolled vomiting, gagging, hurling, and pain," Dr. Sam Torbati, the medical director of the Ruth and Harry Roman Emergency Department at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, explained to Nexstar via email. He sees patients already diagnosed with or presenting with suspected cases of cannabis hyperemesis arrive in his emergency department weekly.

According to Mark Maske of Front Office Sports on X, the NFL has fined both the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints $500,000 each following their fight-filled joint practice at the Cowboys' summer home in Oxnard, California, earlier this week.
The league also reminded teams that they were warned ahead of training camp about their responsibility to keep unsportsmanlike behavior in check at joint practices—particularly when things have the potential to turn dangerous and cause injuries.

Manchester United's midfield rebuild appears to be entering its decisive phase, with TeamTalk reporting that Carlos Baleba has emerged as the leading target to complete the club's summer business in the centre of the pitch. The Brighton midfielder has been admired internally for some time and, crucially, the pursuit now looks to have moved from long-term appreciation into active negotiation.
According to the report, Jason Wilcox and Michael Carrick have both played major roles in shaping the decision. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) has confirmed its in-principle support for modernising the UK tax system, while urging the government to ensure reforms do not create excessive compliance burdens for businesses or their advisers.
The professional body made the observation as ICAS OMB & Practice (Employment & VAT) head of tax Gordon Grant shared the institute's response to two separate consultations.
The two government initiatives are an HMRC consultation on reporting company payments to participators and a joint call for evidence on business systems integration run by HMRC and the Department for Business and Trade.
The systems integration review explored whether connecting commercial software platforms such as accounting packages, banking portals, e-commerce tools and point-of-sale systems could help businesses maintain records more accurately and efficiently.
ICAS noted that linked software ought to reduce administrative workloads and raise data quality.

Drivers caught speeding, using illegal number plates and creating excessive noise have been targeted in a police road safety operation.
During roadside checks in Plymouth on 6 August, Devon and Cornwall Police identified seven vehicles with illegal number plates. Two drivers were caught speeding on West Hoe Road, while six were found exceeding the limit on Millbay Road and three on Durnford Street.
Seven motorcyclists had bikes fitted with illegal exhausts that created excessive noise. The riders have been given a week to fit legal exhaust systems and pass a further MoT test, officers said.
The action followed concerns from residents about antisocial driving, said police.
Police said several vehicles failed to stop when signalled by officers.

Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington said her flagrant foul Aug. 8 against Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham was unfortunate and unintentional. She also clarified her "white privilege" post on social media was not in response to being given the foul.
"It's just who I am. I'm never going to just let an open layup be had," Carrington told reporters Monday, Aug. 10, before the team's road game against the Seattle Storm. "You can pull clips from, I don't know, however many seasons of me making that (play). Obviously I'm just coming back from injury, so maybe my timing or my lift wasn't where it needs to get. It was unfortunate I made contact with her in the way that I did, but it was never intentional."
Carrington made her season debut for the Sky on July 30 after recovering from a foot injury. She was ejected from their game against the Fever for a flagrant foul penalty 2, which is given for "unnecessary and excessive" contact, according to the WNBA rulebook.
Carrington, who is Black, fouled Cunningham from behind on a fast-break layup late in the first quarter of the nationally-televised game at the United Center in Chicago. Cunningham, who is white, was knocked to the court from the impact. The play was reviewed and upgraded to a flagrant 2 after officials determined Carrington wound up and followed through on the contact with Cunningham's head and neck.
Cunningham recently made headlines for her comments on transgender athletes, and Carrington emphasized that had nothing to do with the on-court situation.

Shawn Johnson East is providing the latest on her youngest after his surgery.
Shawn updated fans on how 2-year-old son Barrett "Bear" East—who she shares with husband Andrew East—is recovering after a "definitely needed" visit to an ear, nose and throat surgeon.
"Updates because it's been a while and I've left you all hanging," Shawn captioned a video posted on Instagram Stories July 30, according to People. "First UPDATE Bear had his second set of tubes put in today and his adenoids removed. Surgery went great."
He underwent an adenoidectomy, which is a procedure where a child's adenoid glands (located in the upper nose) are taken out to clear the airway after excessive swelling from infection, per the Cleveland Clinic. The surgery is typically quick and begins with administering anesthesia.

Chelsea have been fined £10m and given a suspended two-window transfer ban by an independent appeal board after admitting breaches of Football ****** ociation agent rules, the FA has announced.
The Blues were charged last September with 74 alleged breaches of the FA's rules around agent regulations, concerning its use of unauthorised agents or unregistered intermediaries when signing new players and then submitted false and misleading documentation to the FA. They primarily related to the seasons between 2010/11 to 2015/16, which came under the ownership of the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
The FA appeal board's written reasons reveals Chelsea "plainly disregarded" the rules and made undisclosed payments to agents or third-parties when signing players such as the Brazilian forward Willian and striker Samuel Eto'o during that time.

In 2022, after Abramovich was forced into selling Chelsea to BlueCo following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the club's new owners became aware of historic instances of potential rule-breaking during its due diligence process and self-reported the breaches. The club admitted to all 74 breaches but an independent regulatory commission imposed a six-point deduction, suspended until 2027, as well as a £10m fine.
