In a game of small distinctions, Mateusz Gamrot — who fights this weekend against Quillan Salkilld at the UFC Apex — has a pretty good one in that he beat Arman Tsarukyan back in 2022. This is an excellent feat by industry standards. In the last six years, 10 other men have tried do just that and 10 men have failed. Most recently, Dan Hooker came up woefully short in his attempt. Tsarukyan submitted Hooker in the second round of their fight last November and made it look relatively easy in doing so.
With five straight wins, Tsarukyan is good enough for other fighters to measure their own standards of greatness, which is its own small distinction.
Yet, despite Dana White pinky swearing that Tsarukyan would be next for a ******* le shot if he beat Hooker in Qatar, here we are over eight months later and … guess what?
He still hasn't fought for the ******* le. And it doesn't appear he will anytime soon.
On Wednesday, the UFC announced that Tsarukyan will face Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 331 in September, in a five-round non-title fight, meaning it's exceedingly unlikely he'll fight for the belt in 2026. Though it's a fine fight — in fact it's crazy good, far more intriguing than a rematch with Charles Oliveira, even if it were for the BMF — it can't help but feel like Arman is forever on the outside looking in. He has been in Dana's doghouse since he backed out of his ******* le chance at the eleventh hour of UFC 311 with an injury, and he didn't do himself any favors by headbutting Hooker during the face-offs in Qatar.

For weeks rumors have swirled that a rematch between former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira and No. 2 ranked contender Arman Tsarukyan was all but signed, sealed and delivered. The fight promotion had other plans.
Tsarukyan (23-3) will instead face No. 7 ranked Mauricio Ruffy (14-2) in the UFC 331 co-main event in a five-round fight. UFC 331 takes place on Sept. 19 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and is headlined by a flyweight championship rematch between ***** leholder Joshua Van and former champion Alexandre Pantoja.
Tsarukyan will enter the bout riding a five-fight winning streak. He last fought at UFC Fight Night 265 last November defeating Dan Hooker via submission. The finish earned him a 'Performance of the Night' bonus.
Ruffy has won back-to-back fights and is coming off a TKO win over Michael Chandler at the UFC Freedom 250 event at The White House in June.
The event will mark the promotion's sixth visit to Los Angeles but the first in eight years. The last time the octagon was in L.A. was for UFC 227 in August 2018.

The family of Perez Hilton has released a statement following the blogger's apparent self-harm in a TikTok livestream video.
Hilton, real name Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, is currently receiving medical care in hospital after what authorities believe was a suicide attempt.
His family and management team posted this announcement to his gossip website: "Many of you have reached out with concern for Perez, and we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers," the statement reads.
"We can confirm that Perez is receiving medical care, and our family's focus right now is on his well-being. We kindly ask that you respect Perez's privacy, as well as the privacy of his family, during this difficult time.
"If and when we are able to share any updates, we will do so with everyone as soon as we can. Thank you for your compassion, understanding, and continued support. The Perez Hilton Team and Family."
Hilton is dad to Mario, 13, Mia, 11 and Mayte, eight. He was alone in the house during the distress-filled livestream, in which he said that he was "doing this for my kids".

Gaethje (28-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) likely cemented his status as a UFC Hall of Famer when he claimed undisputed lightweight gold by stunning Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250 in June. "The Highlight" pondered retirement, but it didn't take long for him to walk back that thought – even though the likes of Georges St-Pierre are encouraging him to.

Lewis Hamilton's F1 resurgence for Ferrari this season is "not ideal" for Ollie Bearman, acknowledged the young British driver currently racing for Haas.
Hamilton's long-term F1 future looked in doubt after an underwhelming debut season in 2025 for the Scuderia, in which he failed to register a podium. The UFC still hasn't officially announced the main or co-main event for UFC 331 on September 19th in Los Angeles, but reliable reports have Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan set to fight for the second time on the card.
Oliveira and Tsarukyan fought for the first time at UFC 300, which saw Tsarukyan take a razor-thin split decision win. There's plenty of arguments amongst "Do Bronx" and "Akhalkalakets" fans as to who really deserved the judges' nod. And then there's Dustin Poirier, who believes a wardrobe malfunction cost Oliveira a first round submission win.
"Listen, it was a close fight, but they had a malfunction with the clothing that saved Arman," Poirier said on the Deep Waters podcast. "I don't know how **** ody else is talking about this. Coming from a guy who knows how to miss guillotines, he would have gotten that guillotine if those shorts wouldn't have slipped off."
Oliveira did indeed catch Tsarukyan in an extremely tight guillotine in the first round of their UFC 300 fight, only for Tsarukyan's pants to slip off past his **** as the Georgian fighter escaped.
"The shorts slipped off and it allowed him to get out of Charles' guard," Poirier insisted. "Pull that up, HQ. He had full guard, locked in guillotine. Arman started to get his hips down, his shorts came down which allowed Charles' guard to come off and saved Arman. It saved him."

Props to Bayshore High's baseball program, which starts the new school year on a meaningful note. For the first time in school history, the Bruins were recipients of the American Baseball Coaches ******* ociation Team Academic Excellence Award for 2025-26 with a 3.62 GPA.
They were one of 10 state high school ballclubs honored.

Just ask the edge rusher's impressed New York Jets teammates and coaches.
"I see him in the backfield all the time," defensive tackle Harrison Phillips said with a laugh Saturday. "I mean, oh my gosh."
The No. 2 overall pick out of Texas Tech in April is off to a fast start this summer. During the Jets' second practice of camp on Thursday, he was credited with three "sacks" — there's no contact on quarterbacks, of course — with one during which he bull-rushed right tackle Armand Membou and buzzed past running back Breece Hall to get to Geno Smith.
"Oh, he's gonna be phenomenal," defensive lineman Kingsley Enagbare gushed. "He's going to have a long, long career. The sky's the limit for that dude. He can literally do it all: He can stop the run, he can rush the passer."

Back on July 21, BYU finally got a big man when Polish forward/center Jakub Urbaniak committed to BYU. BYU hasn't announced the signing, but things seem to be moving in the right direction. Jakub's Pro Club announced last Thursday they have to a buyout of his contract.
Jakub will compete to start at the four or five spot, depending on who BYU brings in to fill out the roster. While Urbaniak isn't the prototypical 7-footer fans were clamoring four (he is 6-foot-9), he is a Big 12 caliber front court player and brings a high motor, rebounding tenacity, some offensive skill, and the ability to switch and guard on the defensive end. Arman Jovic is a European Scout and gave the below breakdown of Urbaniak. One of Urbaniak's best qualities is that he can make an impact with low usage rate.
Assuming Urbaniak makes his way to campus, BYU has two roster spots to fill. The bomb that dropped Friday in the US District court of Colorado granted class-wide preliminary injunction that requires the NCAA to declare eligible all HS class of 2022 athletes eligible. That essentially means that all four-year players, across all sports, who lost their eligibility are now eligible to play this next season. The NCAA can and still likely will appeal this, but the court decisions have not been going in their favor.
Many coaches around the country have been actively recruiting graduated seniors over the past couple weeks with the expectation that they will be eligible. There is still the risk for players and schools the NCAA will get federal courts to overturn the rulings, but for now many schools are full steam ahead in recruiting the impacted players.
Even with the influx of players, there is still questions schools need to answer outside of the uncertainty if the NCAA's appeal will be successful. How much money do schools have left? Many schools have exhausted most of their budgets. How many roster spots to schools have left? Will graduated players count against the 15-player limit, or will they get an exemption? Is it worth adding a one-year player this late and potentially disrupting team chemistry and displacing other players? Lots to consider, and the money one if the most practical and relevant out of all of them.

Chivas at times dominated but were only able to get a 1-1 tie against Puebla. Chivas was the better side from the start but their scoring troubles continued as they were only able to get a single goal against a Puebla side that looked to defend and counter from the start, giving away most possession. Both teams are going to the Leagues Cup before returning to Liga MX. Puebla will travel to Pachuca in their return while Chivas plays against Santos in Torreon.
The 1st half started with Chivas coming out with their best 11 including Brian Gutierrez from the start. Armando Gonzalez got into the area but his right footed shot would go wide. Roberto Alvarado got off a great left footed shot that was blocked by Puebla's goalkeeper, Ricardo Gutierrez. He would leave the ball there for Gonzalez go get a close range header but Gutierrez made a fantastic save to stop him from a sure goal. Gonzalez got into the area and his left footed shot was blocked by Gutierrez but it bounced off Juan Pablo Vargas and looked like it was going to be an own goal but it hit the post. Chivas was completely dominating the match but the score remained scoreless. Against the run of play, Emiliano Gomez got into the area and get past a defender before getting off a left footed shot that Chivas' goalkeeper Raul Rangel blocked but left there for Eduardo Mustre to get off a left footed shot in the net to score and give Puebla the surprising 1-0 lead. It was the first real chance for the home side and it was a bad mistake from Rangel to give up the lead. From outside the area, Ruben Gonzalez got off a right footed shot that went wide. Facundo Almada made a run into the area but his right footed shot went wide. Daniel Aguirre made a good move in the area and got off a left footed shot that went just wide. A cross into the area was headed by Bryan Alonso Gonzalez but it was cleared by Puebla's defense. Alonso Gonzalez got off a left footed shot inside the area that Gutierrez saved. The halftime whistle blew and although Chivas had played better, it was Puebla who had the lead at the break.

The Chicago Bears were back for the third practice of training camp on Friday, which welcomed fans to Halas Hall for the first open workout of the summer.
The Bears put on a show for the fans on Day 3, which was dominated by the offense and featured several standout performances. Quarterback Caleb Williams is off to a hot start this training camp, and his connection continues to grow with his returning cast of weapons in Colston Loveland, Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III. There was also an interesting left tackle battle update, where for the first time this summer it wasn't Braxton Jones running with the first team. Meanwhile, the defense put up a bit of a fight during red zone drills, where Williams threw his first interception of camp.

The Bears offense has overwhelmingly dominated the first three practices of training camp, although the defense has had a few moments. The Twin Cities injected some excitement into the late season last week, and there was good news for former Bulldogs to boot. First, Tour rookie (I mean like 24 days since turning pro) Jackson Koivun won the 3M Open in his 3rd start as a professional and 7th time playing a Tour event (he played several as an amateur and based on his NCAA Championship). He beat everyone not named Scottie Scheffler by 5 shots, and held off the world #1 in the process. His incredible collegiate career at Auburn was not a fluke, unlike their academic credentials.

Every start of preseason we make it clear that these games are nothing more than fitness preparation for the squad. However when you give playing time for several young players like we did today, you have to keep your eyes peeled for what may come next.
One of those young'uns, Dastan Satpayev, had some eyes set on him and showed why that was the case. A good run from Ryan Kavuma-McQueen's pass to break the offside trap from the hosts at Accor Stadium in Sydney and the Kazakh international scored not even 10 minutes into the match.
While offensively the Blues were very promising, the combination of Tosin Adarabioyo and 18-year-old centre-back Olutayo Subuloye in defence didn't make it for solid defending. In spite of Teddy Sharman-Lowe's best efforts to organise his teammates in a corner kick, he couldn't do much to avoid giving Western Sydney Wanderers the tying goal.
It didn't help that midfielders Reggie Watson and Dário Essugo weren't in the kind of rhythm needed to control action in their sector. The hosts were thus able to attack at whim with little to no counterpart offered by Chelsea, who had instead to keep defending against a barrage of shots from the Wanderers.
Unsurprisingly the hosts got in front via Aydan Hammond, with defence once again not covering themselves in glory. What was surprising, was Chelseaying at 2-2 with Dário Essugo ***** isted by Reggie Walsh on a Satpayev play and pass from the left flank.

Head coach Jenny Sugarman says there has been little time to savour Wrexham's historic Women's Champions League debut.
Wrexham celebrated their first European appearance with a thrilling 4-2 victory against FC Pyunik in the first qualifying round semi-final at the Racecourse.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took their two children, Archie and Lilibet, to visit the childhood home of the Duke of Sussex's late mother, Princess Diana, during their recent European vacation, it has been revealed.
Meghan, 44, shared several photos from the family's recent trip overseas on her Instagram account, including one image that show her daughter, Lilibet, 5, walking through the grounds of Princess Diana's family estate, Althorp, holding what appears to be a tiny handbag and a blanket.
Harry, 41, and Archie, 7, are pictured strolling just a head of her, both carrying what seem to be bouquets of flowers.
Another snap appears to show Meghan reclining on a sun lounger next to the pool at the estate, cuddling the family's Beagle, Mamma Mia, who is thought to have traveled to Europe with them. Spencer's new wife, Cat Jarman, is seen in the background, along with her husband.
It's understood that the family were invited to the property by Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, who still owns the estate and resides there with his new wife. According to People magazine, the Sussexes "may have visited Diana's burial site, which is located on an island in the middle of the estate's Oval Lake."

Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner believes Esteban Ocon is likely in his final year with the American outfit, predicting a Ferrari junior will be drafted in to replace the Frenchman in 2027.
Steiner offered a blunt ****** sment of Ocon's current campaign at Haas during an appearance on The Red Flags Podcast ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The 29-year-old has been consistently outperformed by his team-mate Oliver Bearman, who is in his second season in the championship, sparking speculation about Ocon's future with Haas.
"I think Ollie is doing a very good job, and Esteban is just like, that’s the max we can do," Steiner said. "The difference is so big. I think it’s the biggest difference between team-mates now in the championship. Especially in qualifying.
"If you also take the time gap between the two, it's always huge. So I don’t think he has got a future there. I think that’s his last year there."
