Fresh off the news of the merger with Most Valuable Promotions, Professional Fighters League continued its "Summer Series" runof events with a surge of momentum.
Two of the company's top superstars made their return aslightweight champion UsmanNurmagomedov put his ***** le on the line against undefeatedchallenger ArchieColgan, and DakotaDitcheva denied DeniseKielholtz following a year on the shelf.
Following a brutal and decisive first-round finish over Colgan, there are immediate questions on the future of Nurmagomedov and hisplace in the company, as he just fought out the last fight of hiscontract. Nurmagomedov made it a point to see how the PFL/MVPmerger would lead to a contract offer in terms of pay, and if theykeep him, there's a clear top contender in Shabliy. DefeatingAlfieDavis by unanimous decision last month, Shabliy discussed hisdesire for a ***** le fight and he could get a chance at revenge froma 2024 loss to Nurmagomedov.
Taking on Kielholtz in her first action in over a year, Ditchevadid not have her most outstanding performance, and it was clear shewas shaking off some rust. Ditcheva would control the pace anddistance, grabbing momentum early and never letting it go. Aftergetting the rust off, it's time for the most anticipated women'smatchup in the PFL to take place against last year's tournamentchampion in Carmouche. Getting a recent win over VivianeAraujo, these two women are on a collision course and thereshould be no more time wasted.
Magomedov's performance proved there is another Russian star on thepromotion's roster. Part of the Nurmagomedov team, Magomedov waselectric in his manhandling of AngelAlvarez, chopping down his legs with brutal kicks andeventually getting the TKO finish in the second round. He shouldnow face off against the 2025 PFL Lightweight tournament champion.Davis just suffered a loss to Shabliy back in June, but could getright back into the top of the division if he can stop the momentumof Magomedov. Davis has said that he felt he fought his best in hisloss against Nurmagomedov, who knows Magomedov well, and he couldserve as a great test to see just how quickly he can get himselfback to ***** le contention.
Dayron arguably went through the toughest test of his career and itwas also his closest fight, as he pulled off a razor-thin decisionover RaufeonStots. His opponent was thoroughly shocked at the decision, butit saw Dayron keep his undefeated record intact. Even with the win,Dayron would benefit from another veteran test, and he'd get justthat in Pettis. Recently, Pettis was scheduled to square offagainst LewisMcGrillen-Evans but had to withdraw due to injury, if Pettiscan get healthy sooner than later, he would serve as another greattest for Dayron.

TORONTO, ON - October 2 Blue Jays GM, Ross Atkins answers questions. The Toronto Blue Jays held their final press conferences of the year at the Rogers Centre following the end of their season. October 2 2024 Richard Lautens/Toronto Star (Richard Lautens/Toronto Star via Getty Images)
The Toronto Blue Jays have spent the days leading up to the trade deadline evaluating not only their major league roster but also the future of several players throughout their farm system.
While the team seems poised to trade away some expiring contracts amid a disappointing season, it will almost certainly look to compete again next year and could try to bolster its near-term future with some acquisitions and promotions.
But as the Blue Jays evaluate their big-league roster and those prospects knocking at the door for a promotion, it seems to have lost patience with one standout outfielder who recently appeared to be approaching a big-league opportunity.
Cubs Make Pitching Move, Add Veteran Top-40 Pick Shortly Before Trade Deadline

Most Valuable Promotions and Professional Fighters League on Thursday announced a merger "bringing together world-class boxing, MMA, live events, athlete development, and worldwide content distribution under one fighter-first organization, creating a combat sports company for the new era."
The combined company will operate under the MVP banner. It will be led by Co-Founders and Board Members Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, with John Martin serving as CEO and Board Member.
""Since launching MVP, our goal has always been bigger than just building a boxing promotion. It has been to build the future of combat sports. In less than five years, MVP has become one of the most influential and culturally relevant brands in the industry, producing some of the biggest events in combat sports history, elevating women's boxing to unprecedented heights, and bringing millions of new fans into the fight game. The success of MVP MMA's first event confirmed our belief that there is enormous demand for a modern, fighter-first approach to MMA. This merger accelerates our MMA ambitions while strengthening our ability to continue investing in boxing and MVPW. By combining MVP's audience-building engine, storytelling capabilities, and brand with PFL's roster, infrastructure, and international footprint, we are creating a new global home for combat sports. Under the leadership of John Martin, a world-class media executive with deep MMA knowledge, and investment from leading financiers 885 Capital and Knighthead Capital, MVP is going to achieve great things for fighters, fans, and partners," said Nakisa Bidarian, Co-founder and Board Member of Most Valuable Promotions.
"Over the past seven years, PFL has built the world's No. 2 global MMA company, **** embling one of the sport's most elite fighter rosters while creating a world-class global business with premier media distribution across 34 broadcast and streaming partners, reaching fans in more than 170 countries. At the same time, MVP has redefined how combat sports connects with a new generation of fans, creating events that become cultural moments and proving that athletes, sports, entertainment and creators can all thrive together. This merger brings scale - in operations, in distribution and media rights, in sponsorship, in fighter development and in fan engagement. We're not just combining companies, we're bringing an entire combat sports community together and creating a more powerful platform to accelerate growth. One company, one global stage, millions of fans and we're only just getting started. I'm excited to work with Jake and Nakisa as we build the future of combat sports together, and I'm deeply grateful for the continued confidence and support of our lead investors, 885 Capital and Knighthead Capital Management," John Martin, Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of the new company, said.

There is nothing quite like a seismic merger in MMA, considering they've only happened a handful of times over the past 30-plus years. Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian of Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) have taken their disruptor moniker to heart, however, causing the latest shift in the landscape with their acquisition of PFL. Here are the biggest winners and losers in the immediate aftermath of the news.
The PFL's golden girl is now officially their MVP. (Sorry. It was right there.)
What she may continue to lack in worthwhile competition for the foreseeable future, Ditcheva will make up for in dollar signs aplenty. She's already a made superstar from PFL who has established herself as a top talent, if not the company's best. Capable of being the best fit for any company, Ditcheva is primed to become even bigger of a star, especially with MVP backing her.
Paul and Bidarian have put a huge emphasis on women in combat since they started MVP. So much so that they created MVPW, featuring boxing cards loaded more with women than the here-and-there men's matches. That all came after putting on the legendary Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano trilogy. Don't forget their first foray into this ***** e, which came in May, headlined by Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano.
As time goes on, Ditcheva's status as one of MMA's most wanted will only grow. And that's about as perfect a position to be in as a prizefighter.

Falkirk boss John McGlynn insists there has been "no contact" from the Scottish FA over the national team manager vacancy but wouldn't be drawn on whether he'd be interested in taking the job.
Scotland are searching for a new boss after Steve Clarke left following this summer's World Cup where his side failed to progress out of the group stage.
After securing back-to-back promotions with the Bairns and a top-six finish on their first season back in the top flight, McGlynn was tipped as an excellent choice to succeed Clark by former Scotland manager Craig Levain.
While the 64-year-old insists he's flattered to be linked to the position, he's fully committed to Falkirk.
"It's amazing for high-profile people in the game to be pushing my name for that job," McGlynn told Sky Sports.

For nearly two decades, John Harbaugh defined Baltimore Ravens football. His teams were disciplined, physical and consistently among the NFL's playoff contenders. Players came and went, coordinators accepted promotions elsewhere and rosters evolved, but Harbaugh remained the constant that tied every season together.
That chapter has closed. As the Ravens report for training camp, the organization begins navigating unfamiliar territory. A new coaching staff inherits one of the NFL's most talented rosters, but replacing a respected culture builder is never as simple as changing the name on the office door.
The Ravens enter this summer with a chance to establish a new identity while preserving the standards that made them one of football's model franchises. Coaching changes often coincide with rebuilding projects. That isn't the case in Baltimore.
The Ravens still possess one of the league's premier quarterbacks in Lamar Jackson, an offense capable of challenging any defense and a defense talented enough to help fuel an AFC North ***** le. Expectations haven't changed simply because leadership has.
The new coaching staff isn't being asked to build a contender from scratch. It's being asked to sustain one.

Net sales growth of 16% was driven by the MyMedic acquisition and a 10% increase in U.S. first aid and medical products, particularly within mass market retail channels.
The Westcott cutting tools business saw an 8% increase in the U.S. as retailers resumed seasonal promotions that were previously canceled due to tariff and cost uncertainty.
Gross margin expansion to 42.6% was primarily attributed to the high-margin direct-to-consumer profile of the newly acquired MyMedic business.
Management is actively integrating MyMedic by consolidating freight, eliminating duplicate corporate functions, and leveraging the core sourcing team to reduce product costs.

Two of boxing's biggest and most polarizing stars will go head-to-head when Ryan Garcia makes the first defense of his WBC welterweight championship against Britain's Conor Benn on Sept. 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Two longtime promotional rivals — Zuffa Boxing's Dana White and Golden Boy Promotions' Oscar De La Hoya — will work together for the mega-fight that streams on Paramount+ worldwide and exclusively on DAZN in the UK and Ireland.
Talks to matchmake Garcia and Benn began several months ago, but it has been a long, arduous journey to reach Wednesday's announcement of the fight.
Negotiations hit a major roadblock this past month when Garcia's promoter, Golden Boy, and his broadcaster, DAZN, issued cease-and-desist orders to Zuffa Boxing and TKO, instructing the pair to halt their alleged tortious interference with Garcia.
Golden Boy has a mutual say on all of Garcia's fights due to a co-promotional option it has on him, although its exclusive promotional deal expired earlier this year. The promoter claimed in the letter to Zuffa that it had not been involved in any of the talks for a bout between Garcia and Benn, despite widespread reports that a deal was close to being finalized.

Netflix has more than 325 million subscribers worldwide. The streaming giant has also made no secret of its ambition to become a player in the live events ******* e, especially when it comes to sports. In recent years, the company has invested heavily, securing deals with MLB, the NFL and FIFA. It has also become the home of MVP boxing promotions and WWE’s flagship program, Monday Night Raw.
However, the strategy behind Netflix’s entry into live sports is still evolving. During an appearance this past April, Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria explained that the goal is to make everything on the platform great, including live events. She also acknowledged the challenge of shifting viewers from an on-demand mindset to appointment viewing. That may prove to be the company’s biggest obstacle and could ultimately determine whether sports remain a long-term priority.
Habits are hard to change.
For much of my childhood, television revolved around appointment viewing, just as sports do today. I remember gathering with my family to watch ABC’s T.G.I.F. lineup or tuning in for Tom Brokaw and NBC Nightly News.
Today, we live in a much different media environment. Audiences have traded appointment viewing for the convenience of watching on their own schedule. Millions continue to cut the cord because they can find their favorite programming whenever they want. That’s the experience platforms like Netflix were built to deliver: premium programming available whenever and however the viewer chooses.

John McGlynn says Falkirk will be given "more respect" in the coming campaign and believes matching last season will be a tall order.
The Bairns followed successive promotions with a top-six finish in their first top-flight season in 15 years.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Premier Boxing Champions officially became part of DAZN's roster of promotional partners on Thursday, and while the Teofimo Lopez-Rolly Romero welterweight ***** le fight will carry the marquee value on August 22, the more consequential story to come out of the press conference at the Avalon in Hollywood may be everything the deal unlocks below it.
DAZN's head of boxing in North America, Britton Hardin, called PBC the last major promoter needed to bring nearly the entire sport under one roof, joining Matchroom, Queensberry, Top Rank, Golden Boy, Boxxer and Salita Promotions. TGB Promotions' Tom Brown noted the platform actually opens July 25 with Errol Spence Jr. facing Tim Tszyu in Australia, with Lopez-Romero following as the first ***** le fight of the new relationship. Both men framed the deal as removing the biggest obstacle boxing has dealt with for years: division. Hardin put it bluntly, saying the goal is to stop keeping fighters siloed on separate networks and start building the matchups fans actually want.

Nobody made that case better than Sebastian Fundora. The WBC super welterweight ***** leholder, whose younger sister Gabriela has fought on DAZN for years, said the partnership finally puts every top name at 154 pounds in one place, including WBA and WBO champion Jaron 'Boots' Ennis, IBF ***** leholder Josh Kelly and Virgil Ortiz Jr. Fundora still has to get through his mandatory defense against Ermal Hadribeaj first, but he made clear where his focus is beyond that fight, naming Ennis as the matchup he wants at the start of 2027. He also weighed in on Ennis' win over Xander Zayas last week, saying he studied the fight closely and noticed a few things in the third round that stood out, adding that the stoppage still gave fans what they wanted.

After years of success in WWE and WCW, Jeff Jarrett paved his own path in professional wrestling as a co-founder of TNA. But had he not stood his ground in contract negotiations, one of wrestling's most pivotal promotions might never have been born.
Jarrett's departure from WWE (formerly known as WWF) is an infamous story, often told as the moment when Jarrett "held up" WWE Chairman Vince McMahon ahead of his final match with the company in 1999. The story goes that Jarrett demanded $200,000 without a contract for his final match against Chyna — an Intercontinental Championship match — at that year's No Mercy pay-per-view. However, that isn't the whole truth, as Jarrett clarified on Monday's edition of "The Ariel Helwani Show."
"It is fascinating how some people say, 'Jeff Jarrett held Vince McMahon up.' Really think about that. **** ody's going to hold Vince up for — I mean, it's outlandish, it's ridiculous," Jarrett told Uncrowned.
"It was proposed, 'Hey, Chyna's going to have her first match,' or whatever it may be. So there really was a collision course between the male chauvinist deal [many characters were portraying] and 'here comes Chyna.' So that sets the course.
"One of the pieces of the puzzle that people just kind of gloss over was that Vince McMahon was taking his company public. And so the summer and early fall of that year, he was out literally going around the world. He'd go to 'Raw,' and then he'd get on a plane and do more bank — he's out prepping to sell and take the company public. So I was dealing with J.R. [Jim Ross] in my contract negotiations."

As has been the case throughout the course of Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds' ownership of Wrexham to date, icons have come and gone from the club.
The latest high-profile departure was that of Paul Mullin - who departed Stok Cae Ras this month by mutual consent.
The striker netted 110 goals for the Red Dragons and played a part in each of the club's back-to-back-to-back promotions from the National League through to the Championship.
But where does Mullin rank in the pantheon of Wrexham greats, and are the club right to let him move on?

One thing remains constant around the Baltimore Ravens. Nothing ever stays the same. Every offseason brings change. Coaches earn promotions elsewhere. Front-office executives climb the NFL ladder. Players leave in free agency while new stars arrive to take their place. It's the price of sustained success. This offseason has been no different.
Former offensive coordinator Todd Monken is now the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Mike Macdonald celebrated a Super Bowl championship with the Seattle Seahawks this past February, and former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh now leads the New York Giants.
The roster has evolved as well. FOX Sports recently ranked the 15 offseason additions expected to make the biggest impact around the league, and three current or former Ravens earned spots on the list.
Patrick Ricard checked in at No. 15. FOX Sports believes the longtime Ravens fullback will play a critical role in helping John Harbaugh establish the physical identity he wants in New York. Ricard's blocking ability has been one of Baltimore's offensive staples for years, and the expectation is that he'll create running lanes for quarterback Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo, and a revamped Giants backfield.
His departure certainly leaves a void in Baltimore's running game. It also speaks to the value Ricard continues to bring, even this late in his career.

The start of the second half of the minor league season always includes promotions of minor league players that have distinguished themselves over the first half of the season.
Several of the promotions this year were expected. Multiple members of the San Diego Padres’ minor league system had excellent first halves of their year and forced the organization to push them up the ladder.
A few players struggled and were sent down a level to regroup and try to get some consistency in their game. Of the 23 moves made on Tuesday, 16 were promotions.
Lake Elsinore lost multiple members of their team that won the first half in the South Division in the California League. They are guaranteed a playoff spot at the end of the season but the team will look significantly different than the one that won the first half.
El Paso went 4-2 for the week against the Reno Aces, with the starting pitching consisting of Jhony Brito, Germán Márquez, JP Sears, and Matt Waldron for the first four games of the week.

Greg Hamilton making a ring introduction for SmackDown.
Greg Hamilton is a storyteller.
Though the role of a ring announcer in combat sports is often overlooked, Hamilton’s role in WWE—and now in PFL—is of the utmost importance. When done correctly, ring announcers can be immortalized through nostalgia like Howard Finkel, become viral sensations in short order like Samantha Irvin or even enjoy elusive longevity like Hamilton himself, who now announces across multiple combat sports promotions.
Hamilton’s ring introduction skills have evolved over time. In WWE, he was a charismatic, if not irreverent, presence who set the tone for every match through standardized ring announcements that he made his own. Now performing ring introductions for PFL, Hamilton’s storytelling skills are on full display. Instead of the standard “location/weight/name” intros applicable to all wrestlers, Hamilton is safe to spread his wings and tell the full story of who the fighters are and why fans should care.
“There’s quite a bit that’s different [between WWE and MMA ring announcing],” said Hamilton in an exclusive interview.

The Detroit Tigers announced a lot of promotions throughout the farm system on Tuesday. Typically, the Tigers start moving prospects from around this point in the year until the post-draft, post-trade deadline part of the calendar, so we should see a fair amount of movement over the next 5-6 weeks. The big moves today were the promotion of outfielder Brett Callahan and infielder John Peck, along with hard-throwing sinkerballer RHP Moises Rodriguez from Double-A Erie to Triple-A Toledo.
You can find more on Callahan and Peck on our midseason farm system update on the front page at Bless You Boys. Callahan in particular has been on a tear and the 24-year-old left-handed hitting outfielder is clearly ready for the next challenge. Peck still has a little more work to do in terms of his plate discipline, but the right-handed hitter can play anywhere on the infield including shortstop. The duo are an athletic, well-rounded pair of players on track to give the Tigers some bench and utility options next year, and if they break out further with the bat they could become future regulars.
Rodriguez throws a ***** acious sinker that gets up to 100 mph, though more commonly 98, with a pretty good breaking ball. He generally throws strikes when he needs to, but still needs to command the sinker at least more consistently to push his way into conversation for the Tigers bullpen.
There were plenty of other promotions as right-handed starter Hayden Minton and first baseman Garrett Pennington were promoted from High-A West Michigan to Double-A Erie. Infielder Max Burt will also move up with them to help backfill Peck's role.
From Lakeland, right-handed starter Charlie Christensen and lefty reliever Eliseo Mota were promoted from Single-A Lakeland to West Michigan. Christensen's big extension, low arm angle, and nasty slider-changeup combination have given young hitters fits in the Florida State League. He feels like a future reliever, as his sinker is underpowered and relies more on deception than raw stuff, but the 22-year-old out of Central Arkansas, the Tigers' 13th rounder last summer in the draft, looks like another bargain that is paying off so far. Mota is a 23-year-old reliever who has been punching tickets left and right in Lakeland.
