Philadelphia 76ers star Jaylen Brown is one who has many interests outside of the game of basketball. He took classes at MIT to further his education, he has done a lot in the community in terms of his philanthropic work, and now has taken on surfing, apparently.
Video footage of Brown surfing has recently popped up around social media and it's due to two USA swimmers who found a random GoPro camera and decided to look at what's stored on the camera.
Swimmers Patrick Sammon and Michael Andrew recanted the story about how they found Brown's GoPro and what they did with it:
Sammon: As soon we turned it on, we're like, 'Oh, this guy looks super familiar.'
Andrew: And for sure an athlete. Like, this guy's huge.

Chances are, if you have watched a YouTube video, you have come across one where the creator is recording their experiences through a small, handheld camera. Usually, it is a GoPro (GPRO). And it is in the news now because prominent YouTuber and filmmaker Markiplier (also known as Mark Fischbach) has become the single largest shareholder of the company. Additionally, the company has now entered into a $285 million merger agreement with photonics company Starman Optical.
Aimed at expanding GoPro's reach in the AI and defense market, Starman CEO Charles Tebele said, "Advanced optics and imaging are essential to AI, national security, and the broader economy, yet much of the critical hardware supporting these technologies continues to be manufactured overseas. The combination of GoPro's world-class optical expertise and intellectual property with Starman's advanced transceiver capabilities and U.S. manufacturing platform creates a unique opportunity. Together, we intend to bring production of these critical components back to the United States."

A decade ago, if you said GoPro was the Allbirds of the action sports world, it would've been a compliment to both the action-sports camera company and the one hawking sustainable sneakers.
But in 2026, it means that the companies have effectively become public shells for vaguely worded AI and data center plays.
To that end, GoPro stock soared about 50% on Tuesday before settling and is up nearly 100% over the last week after Starman Optical, a photonics company, agreed to acquire every Red Bull drinker's favorite helmet-mounted camera in a $285 million transaction, or about $1.14 per share. GoPro shareholders will retain about 10% of the company, and the deal will also wipe about $92 million of debt off the balance sheet.
The deal's expected to close by the end of this year, the companies say.

Markiplier's 8.5% GPRO stake, worth $9 million, ignited a two-day surge topping 128% and pushed shares back above the Nasdaq's $1 minimum bid threshold.
SONY and GRMN stayed flat while GPRO's rally masks a 31% revenue decline, a going-concern warning, and an $800 million share dilution overhang.
Act now: the ****** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and GoPro didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
GoPro (NASDAQ:GPRO) is back in focus this morning as the Markiplier stake disclosure that surfaced Monday extends into a second day of aggressive buying. Shares are up 78% to $1.56 in Tuesday morning trading, pushing the stock back above the $1 line for the first time in weeks.
The move builds on a wild prior session for GoPro. GoPro stock closed Monday's regular session up 46% at $0.88, its best day on record, then added 55% after hours to $1.37, for a combined Monday gain of more than 128%.

Founder and CEO Elon Musk doesn't have nearly as many friendly supporters now as he did when he was first building Tesla.
On Friday, **** eX (NASDAQ: SPCX) finally completed its well-ballyhooed initial public offering (IPO). You probably weren't one of the lucky few retail investors selected for the initial direct placement of the roughly 20% of these shares specifically earmarked for this crowd. But if you haven't yet, you can always buy it in the open market at the current price.
Will AI create the world's first trillionaire? Our team just released a report on the one little-known company, called an "Indispensable Monopoly" providing the critical technology Nvidia and Intel both need. Continue »
Before you do so, there are four things you'll want to consider about this company -- and its stock, and its CEO -- that might change your mind.
Veteran investors know all too well that modern-day initial public offerings are typically overhyped. They've seen it plenty of times, in fact, with companies like Meta Platforms (then called Facebook), Alibaba Group Holding, Groupon, and GoPro when it went public back in 2014. All four of these stocks surged well above the IPO price immediately after they went public, with investors clamoring to participate in what were perceived as brilliant business ideas. In all four cases, these tickers eventually fell below their initial offering price. And in two of these cases -- GoPro and Groupon -- the stocks are still in the red.
