The derby between Santos and Palmeiras this Wednesday (2) in the Copa do Brasil began in a tense atmosphere.
The very first play of the match was enough to result in two yellow cards at Vila Belmiro.
Felipe Anderson committed a hard foul on Neymar near midfield and was booked by the referee.
Immediately afterward, with play stopped, Escobar kicked the ball at Andreas Pereira and was also shown a yellow card.
Tensions flared on both sides, and the referee had to repeatedly insist that only the captains, Neymar and Murilo, approach him.

BRUSSELS/BERLIN, Sept 2 (Reuters) - European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen vowed on Wednesday to increase pressure on Russia, including with new sanctions, after an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany that she said showed Moscow's growing "recklessness".
Airport workers last month found a drone laden with explosives and a detonator at the airport, an important civilian freight and NATO logistics hub in eastern Germany that is also a base for several giant Ukrainian Antonov An-124 cargo planes.
Germany blamed Moscow for the attack, characterising it as part of hybrid warfare meant to intimidate and cause divisions in countries that have rallied around Ukraine since Russia's 2022 invasion.
Russia denies involvement. It says it will respond to what its foreign ministry spokesperson called "anti-Russian action", and summoned Germany's top diplomat in Moscow.

Andreas Christensen was one of Barcelona's unsung heroes in their 5-0 win over Elche CF in the opening game.
It was the first time the Dane had managed to play the full ninety minutes since September 28, as he started alongside Gerard Martin in central defence.
Christensen kept things tidy at the back, and his timely resurgence is sure to serve as a massive boost for Hansi Flick.
Now, the Dane will set his sights on earning yet another start when Barcelona take on Athletic Club in their next La Liga encounter.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Christensen is just one match away from reaching 100 competitive appearances for Barcelona.

Our next Get German Football News Bundesliga 2026/27 Tactical preview takes us…to Sinsheim. Right. All 18 clubs means all 18 clubs. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim belongs to the Bundesliga field whether we Germans happen to like it or not. The author can only promise the most level-headed ***** ysis his gritted teeth will allow. One would think he got most of his grievances off his chest last year. Regrettably, the political situation at the Kraichgau club over the course of the 2025/26 campaign only produced more grievances.
This time, the Hoffenheim fans themselves demanded more of a voice in club affairs. That definitely merited extensive coverage. In point of fact, such protest actions constituted the very definition of what can and should be newsworthy on the Bundesliga beat. Some disagreed. The chronicler makes no apologies. Dietmar Hopp promised to turn this project over to the burgeoning fan-base that's been supporting it for the past two decades. Potentially reneging on that promise counts as a story. Period.
When it comes to the actual football produced by these Badeners, all coverage remains even-handed. TSG sporting director Andreas Schicker did a fabulous job reducing the roster last summer. The team supplied many memorable performances. Ahead of this season – were it not for the collapsed Fisnik Asllani transfer – Schicker would have produced nearly €100m in summer sales. The author concedes that such skillful administrating deserves praise as it would have theoretically negated the need for another Dietmar Hopp cash infusion.
Alas, we'll likely be reading about more direct benefactor financing next year.
From a straight footballing perspective, things are once again looking up for the 2026/27 Europa League participants. Schicker again put together a stellar offseason, cutting up transfer bait, and recruiting plenty of young promising talent. Dammit. The author literally can't get through the next section quickly enough. There's far too much to report. At least the sheer scale of the activity gives us an excuse to dispense with the rhetoric. Suffice to say that the squad planning and administrative enforcement was simply top-notch. Merely consider yourselves forewarned that this grouchy writer can only contain his disdain to a limited extent.

The Bundesliga club confirmed the transfer on Friday evening.
"Umut completed the entire pre-season with us, and over the past few weeks we have had intensive and very open discussions about his further sporting development. Together, we have come to the conclusion that the loan move to Salzburg is currently a top opportunity for him," said TSG Hoffenheim managing director for sport Andreas Schicker.
"Salzburg offers Umut the chance to gain regular playing time and continue developing in an ambitious environment. Added to that is the international perspective, which makes this step particularly valuable for him. We are convinced that Umut will benefit from this experience and wish him every success during this chapter."

Union St Gilloise and Bodø/Glimt shared an incredible 11 goals over two games as they went head to head in qualification for the Champions League. In the end, it was the side from the Artic circle who came out on top, winning 3-2 in the second leg after extra-time. Union were certainly not helped by having Kamiel Van de Perre belatedly sent off just before extra-time, but Andreas Helmersen only struck with three minutes to go in the addition half hour to win the tie for Bodø/Glimt.
Bodø/Glimt will now go into the next round of Champions League qualification, while Union St Gilloise will drop into the Europa League for next season. Union had experienced Champions League football for the first time last season and were hoping to return, but faced a difficult tie against a Bodø/Glimt side that have been incredibly strong in Europe in recent seasons, especially at home. That Union were able to push Bodø/Glimt all the way in the north of Norway suggests they are in a good place to compete in the Europa League and push for the ******* le in the Belgian Pro League.

The brass at Barcelona are considering a move for Athletic Club star Aymeric Laporte before the summer is out. This of course comes ahead of the imminent departure of Ronald Araújo from Catalunya's capital.
The situation at the heart of Hansi Flick's Blaugrana backline has taken a sudden, unexpected shift over the course of the last 24 hours.
After Premier League giants Liverpool touched base with their counterparts at the Camp Nou regarding a potential deal for the aforementioned Ronald Araújo, Deco and co. opened the door to a loan move.
The Uruguayan, as a result, is widely expected to spend the duration of the upcoming season plying his trade at Anfield.
Barcelona, all of a sudden, therefore look somewhat short on options in central defence. As things stand, Hansi Flick has Pau Cubarsí, Gerard Martín, the oft-injured Andreas Christensen and academy graduate Álvaro Cortés at his disposal.

Andreas Christensen's Barcelona career has been far from straightforward, but the club believe the defender has earned their trust through both his professionalism and willingness to help during one of their most difficult moments.
Although injuries and other setbacks have prevented the Danish international from establishing himself as a regular starter, his conduct behind the scenes has left a lasting impression on the club's hierarchy.
And, as per SPORT, those factors played an important role in the Blaugrana offering him a new two-year contract this summer even as he was recovering from an injury.

Barcelona took on Club Esportiu Europa in a friendly training match on Friday evening and came away with a 4-1 victory.
The two teams played behind closed doors, which means details are a little thin on the ground, but we do know Hansi Flick picked a very youthful team for the first half.
Here's a look at the team:
Barcelona starting XI: Wojciech Szczęsny; Hector Fort, Andreas Christensen, Gerard Martín, Jofre Torrents; Guille Fernández, Brian Fariñas; Roony Bardghji, Ibrahim Diarra, Hamza Abdelkarim and Shane Kluivert.
New signing Karim Adeyemi was present but didn't feature for Barcelona after only meeting up with his new team-mates for training for the first time today.

Speaking in front of the media for the first time since officially being announced as Germany’s new head coach, Jürgen Klopp has set boundaries with the media and the DFB.
DFB President, Bernd Neuendorf, kicked off the press conference by stating what had occurred to get here and how pleased they are to have the former Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool man on board:
“We’ve had very intensive talks in recent weeks. He was our preferred solution from the beginning; we were all in agreement on that within the ******* ociation. We made every effort to bring Jürgen Klopp on board. He is the best solution.”
Neuendorf also confirmed that Klopp’s staff will include Peter Krawietz, Pepijn Lijnders, and Sven Bender. Per Mertesacker will also replace the outgoing Andreas Rettig as DFB Managing Director at the end of 2026.
Before setting out his stall, Klopp firstly took time to reflect on the previous weeks and securing the role:

Sooner or later, Tony D'Amico will deliver a new attacking signing to Gian Piero Gasperini. The question is: How far down his list of targets will he have to go to land a new weapon for Gasperini? With Mason Greenwood heading to Turkey, Alejandro Garnacho to Aston Villa, and Crysencio Summerville to Saudi Arabia, the three players most closely linked to the Giallorossi have now signed elsewhere.
Now, it seems that Roma has zeroed in on Antonio Nusa of RB Leipzig as its new main target. However, the price tag being bandied about for Nusa may be even higher than the reported agreed-upon fee Roma had with West Ham for Summerville. And there appears to be competition from Premier League side Newcastle, which may push the reported €55 million minimum negotiating point higher.
So, with that in mind, D'Amico will have to have be ready to pivot to plan E or F before long. And those appear to be Andreas Schjelderup of Benfica e Said El Mala of Koln. We reported on Schjelderup a couple days ago, but he may be too rich for Roma's blood. That leave El Mala as the more likely alternative.
El Mala is a 19-year-old winger who is part of the Germany under-21 setup and is coming off a 13-goal and 3-assist campaign for Bundesliga side Köln. It's reported that Borussia Dortmund had an €26 million fixed fee, with €16 million in possible bonuses, offer rejected by Koln. The reason: Köln will only listen to offers of €50 million and up— a fee that seems a bit high for a player with a limited track record.
But with Roma having difficulty securing more proven profiles at a similar fee, could D'Amico pony up the cash just to get fresh talent through the Trigoria doors?

A former Auburn infielder has inked a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates following the MLB draft.
Chris Rembert was selected No. 51 overall in the second round of the 2026 MLB Draft earlier this month by the Pittsburgh Pirates and has recently reached a deal with the Pirates, ending his collegiate career. According to MLB Pipeline senior writer Jim Callis, Rembert's deal with the Pirates is worth $2.4 million, over $460,000 more than the projected slot value.
Rembert was one of seven players from Auburn baseball's 2026 roster to be selected during the MLB draft earlier this month, joining the likes of pitchers Alex Petrovic, Ryan Hetzler, and Jett Johnston, and fellow infielder Eric Guevara. He was the first Auburn Tiger off the board, taken in the second round of the draft at No. 51, and is the first Tiger to sign a professional deal.
Rembert signed with Auburn as part of its loaded 2024 class and made an immediate impact. The Pensacola, Florida native started 114 of the 115 games he appeared in, mostly at second base. His Auburn career ends with a .344 average, 14 home runs, 92 RBI, and a .505 slugging percentage after signing with Auburn alongside Chase Fralick, Jackson Sanders, Bub Terrell, and Andreas Alvarez.
Deals for Petrovic, Hetzler, Johnston, and Auburn's other draft picks have yet to be announced.

Serie A side Roma have now definitively missed out on Crysencio Summerville but are now ready to push forward for Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa.
La Gazzetta dello Sport that Gian Piero Gasperini is desperate for an attacking signing and Nusa is now the chosen target. An emergency meeting has been held at the club during which initial contact has been made for the Norway international.
They have spoken directly with Leipzig and haven’t used too many intermediaries. The German side made it clear that they want €60 million and would go down to only €55 million. That’s their take it or leave it response.
Roma believe Nusa’s salary is well within their reach. Newcastle United and ****** nal are interested but luckily for Roma, they haven’t made any moves yet. As a result, sporting director TOny D’Amico is expected to speak to the Friedkin ownership about making a formal offer as soon possible. If things don’t work out Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup and Cologne’s Said El Mala are alternative options.
It feels like any move from Roma would have to see them make an extra financial effort. Leipzig have always been very expensive sellers and the Giallorossi would have to meet the standards set by the sales of Benjamin Sesko and the incoming exit of Yan Diomande.

In a recent print edition, A Bola stated that Tottenham Hotspur are planning to move in for Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup this summer. It has been mentioned that Spurs are hoping to get a deal done for the Norwegian talent this off-season.
Schjelderup enjoyed a decent run of form at the Portuguese club in the previous campaign when he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the left wing. The 22-year-old scored ten times and picked up seven ***** ists in 43 matches for Benfica last season on all fronts.
The Portuguese talent is currently among the best young wide players in Liga Portugal. Thus, it is no surprise that Spurs are eager to get him on board in this transfer window.
His current contract at Benfica will run out in the summer of 2028, which could make it tough for Tottenham to sign him on the cheap later this year.

With Al-Hilal paying €80m for Crysencio Summerville, Roma must turn to other targets, including Antonio Nusa, Diego Moreira and Andreas Schjelderup.
The Giallorossi's frustrating search for a striker to complete their trident attack goes on, as after losing out on Mason Greenwood to Fenerbahce, they thought that Summerville was in hand from West Ham United for €50m.

Instead, Simone Inzaghi's Al-Hilal dived in with today's proposal worth a reported €80m and tripled the salary on offer too, convincing the 24-year-old to join the Saudi Pro League.
Roma are again forced to start from scratch, and look down the list of candidates provided by coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

England beat Norway at the World Cup 2026 after another inspired performance from Jude Bellingham earned a 2-1 win after extra-time in Miami – and next up is a blockbuster clash with Argentina.
Thomas Tuchel's side needed a come-from-behind win after Andreas Schjelderup’s opener.
But Jude Bellingham struck a controversial equaliser before half-time and the tie needed extra-time with the score level at 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Bellingham then followed up a shot early into extra-time to seize the advantage and the Three Lions held on.
Waiting for them in the last four will be Argentina after a dramatic quarter-final win over Switzerland after extra-time.

According to reports from Portugal, Liverpool would now need to fork out more than previously mooted for one player who's caught the eye at the World Cup.
Last month, Tuttomercatoweb claimed that Anfield chiefs have been 'following' Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup, who scored Norway's goal in their quarter-final defeat to England on Saturday, with his club said to value him at roughly €30m (£25.6m).

However, it now appears that his asking price has increased off the back of his impressive performances in North America.
A fresh report from Correio da Manhã (via Sport Witness) has claimed that Benfica will only come to the negotiating table if Liverpool or another suitor were to put forward €50m (£42.6m).

Norway team doctor Ola Sand has dismissed claims that Erling Haaland was unwell ahead of their game against England. The two nations squared off in the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday, with the Three Lions punching their ticket to the semifinals via a 2-1 win after extra time.
The matchup was hyped as a Harry Kane vs. Haaland showdown, yet neither forward managed to find the back of the net. It was Jude Bellingham who commanded the spotlight, his brace across the first half of normal time and extra time proving decisive in overcoming a first-half opener from Andreas Schjelderup.
Throughout the contest, Haaland was effectively neutralized by the England backline, and was notably hauled off at the break of extra time with Norway desperately chasing an equalizer. This prompted widespread speculation that an underlying issue may have been at play, via The Mirror.

First, Julian Ryerson and his Norwegian teammates battled England for a spot in the semifinals. The Scandinavians, with former BVB player Erling Haaland in the starting lineup as usual, took the lead in the 36th minute through Andreas Schjelderup. Just before halftime, former BVB player Jude Bellingham equalized with a left-footed shot following a solo run, making it 1-1.
In the second half, Norway conceded a second goal following a foul by Erling Haaland. Shortly afterward, Julian Ryerson was substituted early due to injury. The fullback had put in a spirited performance on the right flank for 60 minutes but had to be replaced by Fredrik Aursnes.
Norway initially managed to force the game into extra time. But in the 93rd minute, Jude Bellingham struck for the second time with a follow-up goal, securing the Three Lions' spot in the semifinals.
For Gregor Kobel, too, the World Cup adventure came to an end on Saturday night. After another highly intense 120 minutes, the goalkeeper and his Swiss teammates lost 1-3 in extra time to defending champions Argentina.
The Swiss had managed to equalize after falling behind 0–1 to a goal by Dan Ndoye, but were down a man from the 72nd minute onward following a second yellow card for Breel Embolo and still fought their way into extra time.

Following reports linking the striker with Borussia Dortmund and FC Barcelona, Hoffenheim sporting managing director Andreas Schicker has confirmed that talks are underway with clubs over a potential transfer.
"The situation is that there are talks with clubs both domestically and abroad. It's also no secret that Fisnik Asllani has a release clause," Schicker told Kicker.

According to Kicker, Barcelona made contact over a possible move for Asllani back in March, but their interest has yet to develop into anything concrete.

Erling Haaland could barely conceal his disbelief after being hauled off during extra time as England eliminated Norway from World Cup contention. In Saturday's quarterfinal clash in Miami, England relied on a brace from Jude Bellingham to edge past Norway 2-1.
The Scandinavians drew first blood when Andreas Schjelderup unleashed a finish that beat Jordan Pickford, rattling in off the far post to hand Norway the advantage.
The Three Lions then leveled through a contentious equalizer, with Bellingham producing a stunning solo effort before slotting past Orjan Nyland. Three minutes into extra time, the midfielder doubled his tally after Nyland spilled Elliot Anderson's strike directly into his path.
