While I buy most of my clothes from Amazon, when I needed a new wardrobe for a video shoot, my wife and I went on a tour of local retailers.
Since I needed shirts that would hold up well in hot weather, we went to Target and Bass Pro Shops, and as much as I don't like trying clothes on, I took advantage of the stores' dressing rooms.
I'm not alone in wanting to try things on before I buy.
"The opportunity to try on clothes and test products is a major driver of store traffic, with 52% of consumers surveyed saying they go to stores instead of shopping online because of this. References to trying on/testing products surged 32% YoY on average at retailers and were up 58% at beauty retailers," according to a Chatmeter report published last year.
People, me included, like seeing what they're buying before committing to a purchase.

An AI-hungry Google (GOOG, GOOGL) isn't playing nice with one of the largest content publishers on the internet.
"Here's the truth. For a long time, we had a deal with Google, an unwritten deal, which was 'you can use our content to build your search product, and in return, we get sessions,'" People Inc. (PPLI) CEO Neil Vogel told Yahoo Finance from the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Tech Conference (video above). "Now the search product has turned into an AI product by and large, and they still use our content to train their AI, both in real time and in a training way — we don't have to get into the AI terminology of it — but now they don't share anything with us."

Kyle Tucker hit a crucial seventh-inning grand slam to power the Dodgers (90-57) to a 6-2 win over the Marlins (72-76) Friday night in Miami.
It was an exciting night in Miami with pregame buzz surrounding the MLB debut of Dodgers top prospect Josue De Paula. De Paula went 0-for-3 on the night. He flied out to right fielder Esteury Ruiz in his first major-league at-bat. In his second at-bat, with one out in the fourth, the 21-year old drew a walk. In his third at-bat, De Paula grounded out to first baseman Kyle Stowers.
Blake Snell put together another solid night on the mound, only allowing 1 run on 4 hits to the Fish. Otto Lopez singled against Snell in the first, but Smith gunned down Lopez at second on a steal attempt to end the inning. The Marlins got more base runners on in the second against Snell, but he was once again able to pitch around the traffic to get out of the inning unscathed.
Tucker has been getting hot at just the right time for the Dodgers after an abysmal year at the plate.
The Dodgers manufactured a run in the top of the third. Tommy Edman drew the leadoff walk, and Max Muncy singled. Kyle Tucker's sac fly gave Snell a 1-0 lead.

Minneapolis police officers found while carrying out a search warrant on August 25 multiple weapons and ammunition in the shared home of Omar's son, Adnan Hirsi, 20, and his roommate Abdulrahman Abdi, 22. The warrant was obtained after Abdi was pulled over in a routine traffic stop and was found to have no driver's license or proof of insurance.
Abdi was released and the car was impounded, but a firearm was later found. As a convicted felon, it is illegal for Abdi to possess a firearm, so the property that he shares with Abdi was raided.

Egyptian television presenter Sarah Khalifa has been sentenced to death, but the Sept. 5 judgment does not end her legal fight.
A Cairo Criminal Court sentenced the 39-year-old presenter and 11 other defendants to death after convicting them in a major synthetic-drug manufacturing and trafficking case. Prosecutors had charged 28 people in connection with the alleged network.
Khalifa has repeatedly denied involvement. Her lawyer, Mohamed El-Gendy, now says she is expected to sign appeal papers Tuesday, Sept. 15, beginning another stage in a case that has drawn attention far beyond Egypt.
Egypt changed its felony appeals system in 2024. A Felony Appeals Court can reconsider the evidence, the prosecution's case and the role attributed to each defendant before a death sentence becomes final.

Former NFL running back LeShon Johnson has been sentenced to five years in federal prison after being convicted of six dogfighting-related charges, according to a Department of Justice release on Thursday.
Additionally, Johnson — who was in the NFL from 1994-99 and spent time with the Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants — will have three years of supervised release. Plus, he'll have to pay a $30,000 fine.
Johnson was indicted in March 2025 and convicted in an Oklahoma federal court in August of last year. He had been running a large-scale dogfighting ring based in the state since at least 2007, according to the DOJ, which cited trial testimony.
Johnson, 55, previously pleaded guilty in 2004 to Oklahoma dogfighting offenses. Back then, he received a five-year deferred sentence in state court, according to ESPN's Thursday report, which cited Oklahoma court records.
His most recent operation, known as "Mal Kant Kennels," consisted of breeding and selling pit bulls who would fight around the country, with Johnson profiting from the trafficking. The 190 dogs the authorities seized from Johnson's property are the most ever rescued from a single individual in a federal dogfighting case, per the DOJ.

Authorities seized 190 dogs from Johnson's property, the most dogs ever seized from any individual in a federal dog fighting investigation. This is Johnson's second dog fighting conviction; he was also convicted of state dog fighting charges in Oklahoma in 2004.

Earlier this year, we saw a number of mall retailers close locations, despite July 2026 Placer.ai data revealing that foot traffic across all three mall formats grew year over year. As part of my retail coverage for TheStreet, I reported on Vera Bradley cutting its traditional mall footprint by more than 43%, and Fossil Group quietly closing 219 stores over five years.
Most retailers choosing not to renew their mall leases are shifting their strategies. Some are pivoting to open-air shopping centers, which have been outperforming traditional malls for a while, while others are responding to changing consumer preferences by investing more in their online presence.

When Iowa landed Tony Diaz from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, there was immediate hype and intrigue about what he could bring to this Iowa offense. There was the fact that he lead FCS freshman in receiving. There was the fact that he had a late Alabama offer in the portal. Mainly though, it was about just trying to inject some life in the Iowa passing game that has been missing for some time.
In his debut, Diaz was targeted 15 times and ended with seven catches for 84 yards and a touchdown – the most of any WR in their debut during the Ferentz era (for some context, DJK had zero catches in his 2007 debut and Mo Brown's 102-yard game in the 2002 Akron opener wasn't a debut — he had three catches across 2000-01 before it. RVZ is a close second with 5 catches for 65 yards and a freshman record 2 TDs in his debut back in 2024).
Also in those targets were two third down pass interference calls to keep drives alive. Oh, and don't forget about the other two likely touchdowns he would have scored on passes that were just off target.
This is now my 13th year of charting Iowa's passing game and through my data the most targets for an individual wide receiver during that time (Sam LaPorta, TE, was targeted 17 times vs Illinois in 2022). Iowa's Offensive Coordinator, Tim Lester, used ****** e and traffic to help free up Diaz giving him an opportunity to make a 1-on-1 catch or an opportunity to catch the ball in ****** e and use his quickness to create yards after the catch (55 of his 84 yards were YAC).

Picking a fight with a police officer is generally a poor decision, but doing it with one who once challenged for a UFC ***** le adds another layer of bad timing. A recently surfaced bodycam video shows Coral Springs Police Officer Marlon Moraes taking a man to the ground after the man verbally challenged him during a traffic stop.
Moraes, 38, is a former UFC bantamweight ***** le challenger and World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion who has worked as a South Florida police officer since 2024. According to MMA Junkie, the incident itself happened on March 27 but only recently began circulating widely online.
In the footage, the man can be heard telling Moraes, "You can't do sh*t," as he continues to confront him in a parking lot. Moraes remains standing in front of him until the man takes a step toward the officer, at which point Moraes trips him to the pavement.

Lucid Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:LCID) is recalling 27,185 of its Air luxury sedans in the U.S. because an exterior lighting circuit could overheat and raise the risk of fire, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on August 28.
NHTSA told owners to park outside and away from structures until a fix is deployed and warned the overheating circuit could also knock out exterior lighting, raising crash risk too. Lucid already released a free over-the-air software update, and NHTSA said 20,719 of the affected vehicles had received it before the announcement.
The recall is Lucid's largest ever, covering more cars than it delivered in all of 2025, when it handed over 15,841 vehicles. It follows a May recall of 2,039 vehicles over lost drive power and a January recall of more than 10,000 vehicles over rearview camera problems.
Lucid Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:LCID)'s top line continues to grow despite its operational challenges, as second-quarter revenue jumped 56% year over year to about $405 million and 44% sequentially. Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT) and The Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE:HD) are both booking real tariff refund windfalls, but reporting and using the money in noticeably different ways, CNBC reported.
Walmart CFO John David Rainey said the company is eligible for roughly $2.9 billion in refunds, has yet to receive just under $100 million of that, and saw Walmart U.S. gross profit grow 1.6% from the boost; Rainey said Walmart plans to use the funds to lower prices for consumers, with the impact showing up in the current fiscal third quarter.
Home Depot said it received $730 million in tariff refunds during its fiscal second quarter, using about $685 million to reduce the cost of goods sold, lifting gross margin by 0.3 percentage points. CFO Richard McPhail called that "the vast majority" of what the company expected. Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE:LOW), by contrast, said it would not use its refund to cut prices, with CEO Marvin Ellison saying the company wants to "deliver strong profitability for our shareholders" instead.

CNBC reported that OpenAI said it will end model access through Cursor on November 12, following **** e Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) $60 billion all-stock acquisition of Cursor's parent company, Anysphere, which closed on August 14.
OpenAI said it "cannot be confident that **** eX will use our technology within our terms of service, based on our experience with Elon Musk's companies violating contracts," pointing to disputes involving X and xAI, including Musk's own courtroom admission that xAI had trained on OpenAI's output. The announcement came alongside second-quarter results showing Old Navy net sales fell 4% year over year to $2.1 billion, with comparable sales down 4% versus ******* ysts' expected 2.4% decline, marking the brand's first negative comp in 12 quarters. Old Navy contributes nearly 60% of Gap's total revenue. Overall profitability far exceeded what the sales headline suggests since operating income more than doubled to $676 million from $292 million a year earlier, while net income more than doubled to $501 million from $216 million. These results show that Gap can significantly improve earnings even while Old Navy struggles.
The turnaround playbook is clearly working where it has been fully applied. The Gap, Inc. (NYSE:GAP)'s namesake brand delivered double-digit comparable sales growth this quarter. It shows that CEO ******* son's broader strategy can succeed decisively when executed well, which strengthens confidence that it can eventually be applied successfully to fix Old Navy too.

Overall profitability far exceeded what the sales headline suggests since operating income more than doubled to $676 million from $292 million a year earlier, while net income more than doubled to $501 million from $216 million. These results show that Gap can significantly improve earnings even while Old Navy struggles.
The turnaround playbook is clearly working where it has been fully applied. The Gap, Inc. (NYSE:GAP)'s namesake brand delivered double-digit comparable sales growth this quarter. It shows that CEO ******* son's broader strategy can succeed decisively when executed well, which strengthens confidence that it can eventually be applied successfully to fix Old Navy too.

For the quarter ending 2 August 2026, the company reported lower than expected revenue at $2.4bn, down 4% from $2.53bn in the previous year.
This was driven by an 8% decline in the Americas and China mainland, where revenue grew 4%. International net revenue increased 4%.
Comparable sales declined by 9% overall during the quarter. In the Americas, comparable sales fell by 12%, while international comparable sales recorded a 3% decrease.
During the company's earnings call, interim co-CEO and chief financial officer (CFO) Meghan Frank said: "As we moved into Q2, we faced negative commentary in the media and social channels, which impacted traffic and softer than planned response to some new product launches, which contributed to a moderating sales trend."
Lululemon reported gross profit of $1.5bn in Q2, a decrease of 1%, but gross margin improved by 200 basis points to 60.5%. The margin increase was bolstered by $134.5m in tariff refunds, which boosted the measure by 560 basis points.

OpenAI launched Daybreak for Frontline Defenders on September 3, committing $1 billion in subsidized Daybreak access, training, technical support and partnerships. Separately, the Daybreak Defense Network now includes more than 35 enterprise products and partner-operated services. Cloudflare is offering invitation-only access to an AI vulnerability-discovery and remediation service built with GPT-5.6 Cyber, while SentinelOne is adding Daybreak models to its Wayfinder services. Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE:NET) and SentinelOne, Inc. (NYSE:S) therefore enter the same program with different routes to revenue.
Cloudflare's model starts at the network and developer edge. It can combine authorized source-code ***** ysis with traffic and security context, then propose code patches and WAF mitigations for customer review. That distribution creates a credible cross-sell path because customers already use Cloudflare for performance and security.
